Working in Manhattan during a snowstorm, I made the advance plan to stay overnight to save on hassle. Hotel Mimosa offered the basics at a good price. The room was small, but functional. Nice size bed with cozy pillows and clean smelling crisp sheets. The room was warm, and a small heater is provided which I used for the beginning of my stay, and I shut it off before going to sleep. Minimal sounds from the hallways and other rooms, there is a quiet time sign. In the morning, I heard a hair dryer from another room, but it was no bother because I had to get up early too. I was very appreciative of the garment rack/shelving as my jacket and scarf were damp from the snow. The bathroom had a great shower, and the water temp and pressure were excellent. A continental breakfast was offered but I was unable to partake due to time constraint, also I don't know what part of the hotel it is in. Complaints: The room had a bad odor immediately as I entered, and I suspect it is from the bathroom. By the morning I did not smell it anymore but that might mean I was just used to it. I thought the room would have a microwave (which I swear I saw listed as an amenity) but going back to look I don't see it. Maybe a higher rate room has it. I ate my dinner cold. Overall, it was great for the value and area. I can recommend great food choices nearby : KO Burger, and the hidden dumpling spot in the abandoned mall. read more

It was a pleasant stay at Hotel Mimosa, a family-owned and -operated hotel in the heart of Chinatown. Space is a premium in NY, and we found the room to be just a tad bit on the smaller end, but still comfortable. They had toiletries readily available in the bathroom, and the water pressure was excellent! I just wished that the room had a small fridge and your own personal thermostat; the windows also do not open, so you can't really get 'fresh' air. There is also a small 'common space' on the lower level, in which there is a refrigerator (where you can store your perishable items/medication; they provide sticky notes and a pen to label your bags), plastic ware, a sink, a vending machine, and a small 4-seat table. If you need bottled water, they have those up at the front desk for $1. Our room was easily accessible, and the elevator was smooth and efficient. The front desk staff were all kind, friendly, and helpful; they are able to hold your luggage/items before or after checkout. I was very concerned as my friend and I were walking up to the hotel, because directly across the street is a three level transportation bridge/thoroughfare, the likes of which this Arizonan/Floridian has never seen! Well, quite happily, I can say that we heard practically no noise from this monstrosity. We were in room 201 so we were on the street side facing said monstrosity, and if you were an extremely light sleeper, it may bother you. To me, it sounded like a -slightly- louder version of your homes heater clicking on in the middle of the night. So, not very noticeable. The people at the desk always greeted us and were always so helpful. We asked for a steamer and an electric kettle, which really came in handy. Oh, and be sure to make use of the convenience center, downstairs. There is a refrigerator in case you have leftovers or want to maybe buy some milk (and cereal, or yogurt) for your mornings, or whatever. There are also paper cups, plastic silverware and a few other little things that might make your morning / evening a bit nicer. Our room was one of seven on the second floor, and I can honestly say that I heard a door slam or voices in the hallway only briefly and once each. Our room was lovely. Two adult female friends. Two twin beds, a hanging space / open closet system, and a moderately sized bathroom with plenty of hot water, and good water pressure. I would say the only item that was missing, would have been a full body mirror. I expected the room to be cozy, and it was, but it still had enough room for us to negotiate without constantly running into each other. We had an absolute amazing time. Our trip was excellent, and the hotel lived up to its 4.8 star rating. A rather inexpensive choice in a very expensive town. Chinatown might not be everyone's first choice, and it may not have the 'glamour' or 'allure' of "uptown Manhattan", But we enjoyed so many amazing restaurants, wonderful architectural styles and plenty of vintage, consignment and thrift stores nearby. Ooh and be sure to check out the bakery "MichaelI". The banana croissants are really delicious. And Jackie was an amazing host to us during our visits. In the heart of Chinatown in lower Manhattan, this hotel is in the midst of all the delicious glory and offers all the sights and noises of Asia. We were warmly greeted upon entry and because we were early, they offered to hold our luggage and text me once the room is ready. We took a ferry to Brooklyn and walked backed on the Brooklyn bridge when they texted informing us the room was ready. We got back, got our key, and our luggage was already in the room. Nice! The room had a nice conformable bed and is modern and clean, albeit on the small side. But that is no different than other other hotels we stayed at around the same price range. There is no heating or AC, but they do have a floor fan that provides heat if you need it. The room also has a ceiling fan to give you a nice draft. It is April so we were neither hot nor cold. Overall, a great place to stay. Minutes to Chinatown, and not too far to Little Italy or the Financial District. Subway was nearby and we took it to Hells Kitchen without any issues. Would recommend making this a base if you are looking at lower Manhattan area. read more

It was quite small that you probably cannot open 2 big check-in bags. And the wall is pretty thin that I can hear neighbor flush the toilet or shower. And there is no place for breakfast within the facility. You just gotta go out and find your own food. The good thing is it is within the Chinatown and you have food when you miss the regular meal time. I have encountered the very friendly and courteous staff and very inexperienced one as well. But overall experience regarding human intersection is good. William and a young tall Cantonese speaking fella are really friendly and courteous. Really have to highlight these 2 gentlemen. The good thing is that they do offer toothbrushes, shower cap and shaver, but no water or notepad and pen on the desk. The cleaning service is like others based on request. It is good and bad that you can ensure no one will enter your room if you don't like to fear something may get lost while you are out. The bad side is there is a time frame you need to make that request or you have to wait until tomorrow. It is small you know that when people talk outside or walk out of elevator. And the sink and bathtub seems to need to be cleaned for the scam or hair stuck inside. It is very slow unless you completely remove the stopper. I don't know other places and prices per night. I cannot comment on that. By the way, I don't know why the internet seems to halt with very slow connection after 1am for some reason, I have experienced this a few nights here. read more

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Mimosa for only one night this past week. Yes, the room was a bit compact, but so is everything less than 4-figures in NYC. The room was very neat and clean, the bathroom was not only clean but well appointed. (My wife really enjoyed the body wash, shampoo and conditioner provided.) There is no closet, but there is a small stand with hangers. If you don't require a full closet, this is certainly acceptable. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. If you arrive early, or if you want to stay in the city after checkout, the staff is very kind to hold your bags. William allowed us to take care of all of the paperwork in the morning when we arrived, we left our bag then went to see the sights. We arrived back a little after 4pm where, not only were our keys waiting on us, but our bug had been delivered to our room! We could not be more pleased with our experience! Many have mentioned the excellent location in Chinatown. Hotel Mimosa is about an 8-minute walk to the New York Subway's F Line on East Broadway. As others have discussed, the train does run under the bridge in front of the hotel, however, we were not bothered by this. While we did hear the train rumble by sounding a bit like a commercial aircraft with the reverse thrusters, the two double-glazed windows worked well to keep the noise to a level where we had absolutely no trouble sleeping. Yes, NYC is one of the loudest cities in at least North America. It does not sleep. Please keep this in mind across the entire city. Whether you are in NYC on business or for pleasure, NYC has its own personality. One, or even several hotels, will not change the personality of this iconic place. Take the city for what it is. Enjoy what if offers. Overall, this hotel was a welcome respite from the cares of the city. My wife and I will stay here again. The value of the room, with one of the lowest price tags in Manhattan, combined with a neat, clean room and a welcoming staff, have earned our repeat business. After having called NYC home for 15+ years I never thought I'd stay at a hotel, but business called me back for a few nights and while I wanted something clean and convenient in lower Manhattan, I didn't want to break the bank. Hotel Mimosa to the rescue! Front desk: warm and gracious. Location: About 5 min walking from the East Broadway F or the Grand st B/D. Just one block from a Citibike stop which I ended up using more than I anticipated because it was just easier. Safe area even past midnight. Room: I had a twin room which was no frills but pleasantly clean, the beds were firm, water pressure was good, bathroom clean, and no noise from the Manhattan bridge right out my window. I really enjoyed the view, could open it for fresh air or close it and the triple pane kept it silent as a tomb from the train noise. I do wish there were a dresser or closet, but not much space for that. I asked for an iron which the staff brought up with a full size board. Probably the best budget option I can imagine in Manhattan at $154/night. I might not put your parents up there or stay on a honeymoon, but for an experienced solo traveler or couple looking for a warm and clean stay, look no further. read more

Cleanliness appears to be good as well. A room that size should have landscape scenery instead of female heads on the wall for artwork. This is of course a female's perspective. I enjoyed the pigeons visiting the ledge outside the window:) The wonderful staff provided helpful suggestions with lists of dining places. No closet, tub shower with very good pressure, no storage space for luggage and very tight tiny room. Had to side step to go to bathroom and move out of way when husband had to walk out. Must contact front desk to regulate temperature in room. Few amenities- one vending snack and drink machine downstairs that also serve for maintenance storage of things used to store and repair hotel. They didn't even try to hide or put up boards, tools, pipes, etc...safety issue particularly with children. Would not stay again. read more

This is the most clean, centrally located, affordable hotel with extremely courteous staff. The rooms are a bit small, but remarkably clean and well-kept. The windows were very well sound-proofed (there are two windows layered together with space in between) and reduced the sound of the subway outside to a gentle hum. The bathroom was very clean and modern, with marble or stone countertops, tiles, etc. and a glass walk-in shower. There's a shared fridge and table with chairs in the basement. The staff are extremely courteous and helpful, and shared a list of recommended cafes, restaurants, etc. within walking distance (and there are many!) Hotel Mimosa deserves your service. I had low expectations for this little hotel from the pictures online, but I was really pleasantly surprised when I stepped inside. Over the course of my 3 days in NYC, it really won me over, and I found myself sad to leave by the end. It's truly a family-owned operation with super friendly staff from the moment you check in and rooms that are not luxurious but are totally comfortable and spotless. I actually found them to be quite practical and generous in their layout and amenities (the full standalone coat rack was a nice surprise), and my end-of-the-hallway room was very spacious by NYC standards. The location is really stellar--right in the heart of Chinatown and a short walk from the subway. There are tons of really good restaurants nearby, including a new late-night burger spot, the ever-popular Super Taste for dumplings, and my favorite homemade tofu place in Chinatown. I felt decently safe walking around the area at night as a single female traveler. I was expecting there to be more noise from the train, but they did a good job with the soundproofing, and it honestly sounded like muffled white noise inside that didn't bother me at all. For the price, this is really one of the best budget places you can find in the city. Even if I wasn't looking for a cheaper stay, I'd come back! read more

Small, tucked away in the shadow of the bridges and overlooking the edge of Chinatown, this place is a pleasant surprise. Is it fancy? No. But is it welcoming? 100%. The staff offer pages of local recommendations (coffee spots, dim sum joints, happy hours, etc.) and go out of their way to make you feel at home. Minor quibbles: the soundproofing isn't great on the doors, and the coffee situation isn't wonderful (weirdly, a lot of the local cafes don't open until 8, which is hard on morning people). But the rooms are spotless, the neighborhood is pretty quiet at night, the bathroom features full-size tubs--a treat after a day of exploring the city--and the staff make you feel like your comfort matters to them. Honestly, I was tempted not to write this place up, the better to improve my odds of always getting a room. But you can't be too greedy if you want a good place to do well. read more

It's a minimalist room, but much nicer than comparable rooms at the Pod hotels in and around NYC. Hotel Mimosa was an awesome find! While it is kind of out there in Chinatown, it was a 5-10 min walk away from the subway station. The front staff was so accommodating and friendly - there was always someone opening the door for you during the day. The rooms were cozy and super clean (including the bathroom!!). Others have complained about the noise from the train, but I honestly didn't notice it. There isn't a fridge in the room, but the basement has a fridge for everyone to use, as well as a hot water dispenser. Only con - the hotel offers car service to the airport. When we got to the airport, the driver tried to charge me more money than what it was supposed to be, so beware. On the plus side, he did manage to get us from Chinatown to LGA in 15 minutes. read more

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Mimosa! It's near the heart of Chinatown so it has amazing food, and convenient public transport close by. They let me have an early check in and late check out. It was very clean (which was SO refreshing compared to other NYC hotels) and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Carl, Cathy, and Ryan were so great, and even offered to let us keep our stuff stored at their hotel AFTER we checked out. Parking- ha ha.. this is New York! The view is amazing. Yes there is a subway train that runs in front of your room. At first you think you might it, but you sleep so well it is not a problem. The staff is warm and welcoming from day one. we had three different staff members attend us at the front desk. Each of the concierge members answered all our questions, gave us suggestions to food, how to get to a Subway, offered maps and even contracted our ride back to the airport. Inside your hotel room you will find a wonderful queen size bed with a firm mattress you. You will have two feet of walking space around the bed. Your bathroom is wonderful and functional. The toiletries provided are hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, shaver, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb and a shower cap. You will also find a blow-dryer. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Hotel mimosa has very small rooms, I mean small. However it is very clean, and the bathroom, although outdated, are also very clean. The bed was comfortable, the towels were soft, so those details made up for wherever the hotel fell short. There is no refrigerator, iron, or closet in the rooms. You have to go to bottom floor for that. The area is Chinatown so lots of asian stores and food. Trains are nearby. It was okay overall. Super strict smoking policy. read more

The moment we walked in this place, I knew I was already going to give them 5 stars. Coming to NYC for the first time, I wasn't sure what to expect. But this place surprised me in the best way. Our flight unfortunately landed at 6:45 in the morning, and I knew that the hotels check in wasn't until 4PM. So we slowly made our way to the hotel, grabbing food along the way (and fortunately the subways had delways...). We arrived a little after 11am and our room was already ready. They let us check in with no extra charge. SERIOUSLY?! In LA you are charged an extra 75 per hour!!!! Amazing. We were so tired from flying overnight so we were so thankful. They give you a subway map, a list of restaurant recommendations, and a list of places to see in NYC. The room is super cute. We had a great view of Chinatown. The bed was SO comfy, and while there was no fridge or microwave in the room, they did have one on the lowest level. This place is so kind and thoughtful. We will 100% be back!!! read more

Absolutely love and plan to stay here again on our next visit! Just a 10 minute walk from the Canal St. Metro and an even closer saunter to Grand St. Metro. Plus, you can get to Brooklyn/Williamsburg in just 20 minutes be at the Subway because we're so close to the Brooklyn Bridge. This place is in the heart of Chinatown and it's actually nice. Staff was incredibly knowledgeable and they have a 5 page printed guide to the neighborhood with ordering recommendations that are spot on! (They also have free espresso in the lobby that's quite good) We were hesitant about the noise because it is based next to a bridge (which means the subway rumples past every once in a while), but we had no trouble getting to sleep or sleeping in mornings (Plus the curtains do a great good job of blocking out all the light). Not the most glamorous, but it certainly gets the job done. The room was small but exactly what we needed. The TV is pretty bag in the bathroom is amply sized as well. Plus, they provided an amazing range of toiletries, including regular sized Colgate toothbrushes, a disposable razor, and incredible smelling body lotion! read more

Quaint hotel with great service. If you're not looking to pay an arm and a leg for your stay in NYC, I would highly suggest this hotel. The rooms are on the small side, but that didn't matter to me.. I didn't come to NYC to stay in my room! A refrigerator would have been nice to store some leftovers or cold drinks, but it wasn't a huge deal. Loved the candy energy bowl in the lobby! If you stay here you should definitely look up "Tasty Hand Pulled Noodle" which is near by and out of this world good! read more
