Maybe a remodel? The family that runs this place is so nice and we're gracious enough to help with a slightly earlier check in than usual. I have been coming to this hotel for about 10 years. I have seen the hotel go thru changes, difficulties, challenges, and then the renovations that continue. I've taken time to get to know the owners that "live there", and I understand why. I actually like that they are on site with a family that includes wife, husband and children! I mean if they are willing to stay there, and not be afraid of their children being hurt, I should be fine. I mean I've stayed at hotels all over the world.... 5 star, to a place I paid a fee to roll out my sleeping bag. I've seen people OD in Vegas at the most expensive rooms,,, or at least rooms I could never afford. I've seen "John's" walk sex slaves (women being forced into sex for $) right thru a lobby with police and security, who waved at the "john" in approval. Are the owners doing everything perfectly well??? Nope, but I give them my support. They are trying. The rooms have gotten so much nicer over the years. Paint, new carpet, new linen, new showers, tile, glass. I talk to them, tell them I appreciate them, I talk to the maintenance man about surfing... to people so quick to write something negative, do you know that maintenance man who wants to talk surfing for hours on end with you, has probably forgotten more about who surfs, why they surf, why he loves the ocean and why he loves to surf (although he knows he can't anymore but still talks like he can). Just like me!! I was there during Covid,,, when I thought I had Covid while staying there, they offered a full refund and made sure I was there and ok or needed anything (being type 1 diabetic and from Michigan) I'm sure everyone could see the danger in that situation. I love this place. Is it high end?? No, could it be better, yes. Are they working to make it better, safer, more customer friendly, yes. I cant imagine how hard it would be to try and learn how to run a business based on customer service when you've had very little training on local customs. My experience with this "hotel" are as follows: 1. Management LIVES in the office 2. Bloodstains on the floor 3. Stains ALL over the bedspread 4. Hair IN the sheets 5. Lights constantly flickering... faulty electricity? 6. Semi trucks ideal in the road throughout the night 7. Paper thin walls allow you to hear everything 8. Only two stars because the rooms were actually nice and cozy. However, the people at the front are rude! We called to see how early we can check in and the guy didn't want to give us a time. Went to check in and not even a welcome or smile. Just here's your room key and that's it. Even when we Checked out the lady which I'm assuming is the wife just took the key and closed the window. Just recently stayed here for a weekend. We thought the man that checked us in was nice! The room itself was not bad either, can't complain because it was so cheap. For it being that cheap the room was nice! It was quiet during the night, but of course during the day it was loud since we are on a main street! Would I stay here again? I would! Would i recommend it? I would! It was a great hotel!!!! My ONE complaint has to be the fact that even though we had our privacy sign on, housekeeping went in and gave us clean towels and took our trash out... it actually made me nervous because we had everything out but after realizing they just replaced the towels (so sweet!!) and took our trash out we didn't care! We figured they were doing their job! It's a small little hotel / motel. No complaints. Comfy bed, secured room, tv was perfect and had every single channel. Great place and a great staff! My wife and I are both very chemically sensitive. Mold, strong scents, air fresheners, cleaners, laundry soap and dryer sheets are all things that make it impossible to find a place to stay when out of town. We had been to a doctors appointment in San Diego and on the way home decided to spend the night in San Clemente. After visiting 5 other hotels and either mold or Chemicals had chased us away, we found this Oasis! The owner was very patient and gave me a key to go and check out a room. First one we went into was perfect. We had a great night with no mold or chemical issues. The bed was very comfortable and the room very quiet. Everything was very clean. I would have given an easy 5+ stars but they still use scented laundry detergent. Thank you Hotel Miramar for being an Oasis in an otherwise toxic world. read more

Love this hotel! I've stayed here twice now and I cannot get over how great it is here. The people who run the hotel are extremely friendly, the room itself is well kept with nice bed sheets and a comfy bed, and you can tell everything has been renovated. I'm very picky with where I stay, and when I say picky, I mean it, but this hotel is near perfect and with its great price? Definitely couldn't turn it down. Compared to the other hotels and inns within the area, hotel Miramar gives the best deal with the best looking room and amenities. Love this place! I'd recommend it to anyone. We arrived at the last minute hoping for a room and got more than lucky. The receptionist asked if we'd prefer a one or two bed room then even gave us the option of having an upstairs or downstairs room. Once we got to the room I immediately noticed the interior design. It's newer but definitely calming. Love the comfortable beds to, they aren't the typical cheap ones that you'd get at most hotels.. and the shower was amazing to. Plus they even offer nice products in the room such as a Keurig and Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner. There's even a mounted tv, mini fridge, microwave, and safe that's built into the wall. Plus you honestly cannot beat the price. You definitely get your moneys worth here. read more

Worst hotel experience I have ever experience! Not only would I never stay here again I suggest know one does. The management was so rude and even entered my room without permission. This has to be the WORST hotel I've ever stayed at for the price. The owner has no personality and is very rude, once we walk in the room both side tables have bright blue duct tape on the holding then together. At check out time the owner has to walk through the room and inspect every single item in the room including the dirty towels wanting to charge because they found a spot. I've never felt compelled to write a yelp review before, but I had the most bizarre experience here... First, I showed up early before check in because of my flight times. I thought I'd at least see if I could get in early but didn't expect to. I was told that check-in wasn't until 4pm which is understandable. But then was told that for an extra $35 she could check me in now. What?! Either you have a room available or you don't. How does $35 change that? It just felt like the were trying to make an extra buck from me. I've never had that experience before and wasn't about to pay for that. I decided I'd just go kill time before seminar I was attending there at 2pm. The seminar ended at 8:30 and I got a call from a friend that was staying close by and decided to go visit him rather than go right back to the hotel. Here's where it get's really wierd... I was called not once, but 3 times wondering where I was and if I was coming to the room. Each time I said, "yes I will be coming tonight". But when they insisted that I tell them exactly when I was coming back I got a little irritated. At first I thought maybe they wouldn't have someone at the front desk late at night, but they said that wasn't the issue. Finally on the third call I said, "look I paid for my room (I had given them my credit card number over the phone the week before), and I will when I want to come!" That's when the manager on the phone said that actually they didn't have all my credit card information. I'm not sure what the point was of giving them that information to begin with, but it was at that moment that it became clear to me that they really just wanted to give my room to someone else and/or didn't believe me that I was actually coming back. Since they didn't have the ability to charge me, I decided not to come after all and that cost them what would have been 2 nights stay from me. I found a room at the Holiday Inn in town instead. They were going to get 2 nights out of me and instead they got none. My guess is that they had someone that wanted the room and they were going to charge them more for it night of than I had already paid them for it in advance. It was worth it to them to piss me off to make extra money from someone else that was standing in front of them. It fits the theme of them trying to charge you extra to get you in early. I won't ever be staying here, and I'm glad I didn't end up staying there this last weekend. read more

Second the manager yelled at me because I asked for towels because they had NONE in the room. I have to give one star, this is a bare minimum hotel. Owners live in the hotel, they haven't updated any of the bedding or amenities in 20 years, and it reeks like maple sirup. The first night i go to lay down in bed and it looks as if there are black pubes all over the comforter, then peal it back and there were yellow piss like stains. I ask for new sheets to be delivered, When i receive the "new" sheets, they look exactly the same as the others, ask for another set and they still had yellow stains but i had to settle. The Kerig didn't work either which was annoying sense i was looking forward to brewing a fresh pot. They also said the hotel was much closer to the pier than it was, and they said it was a smoke free hotel but my room smelt like smoke? If the owner is reading this, you should throw away all the bedding and get new sets because clearly you don't have any bedding that looks at least some what fresh. So unless your into this kind of behavior i wouldn't stay here. Clerk at the desk was nice. read more

This hotel is very nice. However there were blood splatters on the ceilings and walls. I brought it to the owners attention. They came and cleaned one spot. I called to let them know there was still blood in the bathroom they told me if I don't like it go somewhere else and hung up on me. Then they accused me of stealing a towel. We stayed at this place the other night and enjoyed it. Clean rooms, stylishly furnished. A very good value at $60 (drop in rates they gave us for a weekday night). Courteous staff & very nice amenities (including HDTV, high-speed internet, microwave, etc). The pictures on their web site give you a good idea of what it looks like. What a joy this place was! The owners take great pride in this little place and care that their customers have a good experience at the hotel and in the area. It has easy access on/off freeway. Inside the rooms, it is quiet. Gorgeous dahlias grace the small lawn. The beds are excellent. There is a microwave, refrigerator, cable, wireless, good towels, but best of all, everything was immaculate. We stayed here because other places were filled but we were so glad that we did because it was a much better experience than other similar ones at the same or higher price. read more

This hotel looks run down and old from the outside, but rooms are very nice and clean. You have to ring a bell and wait to have the door opened to get into the office at all times which is kind of odd, but not a big deal. There is always someone there to help you. The continental breakfast was extremely limited, but overall the hotel was nice. I would recommend this hotel to others and I would definitely stay here again. read more

The staff is rude and incompetent, on the last day I was here the guy came up to me and said "so you going to pay me or not?" I replied that we were going to check out and gee came in the room and started moving our things out, saying "you better get out right now then." (Keep in mind we were already in the process of moving our things out, barely anything was left in the room)..then my Mom came in the room and he said he wanted $35 because we had a small cat with us in the room, she pointed out that someone upstairs had 2 huge dogs and they didn't pay any extra fees. He yelled "fuck you, get out" at her. ALSO, The cleaning lady is a thief, though half of the time she didn't even bother tending to the room, (we stayed here for 6 days and I saw her maybe twice, one time of which she stole my phone and only returned it when I'd threatened with the police) and when I brought this up with the management they shrugged it off and told me to go find her upstairs. I had to go get toilet paper rolls and new towels several times, because nobody cared to supply the room with basic amenities. The management also made big deal about us parking our sedan style car in front of their hotel sign, despite it being a legal parking spot and yelled at us to move it. All of that aside the room smelled weird, the coffee maker didn't work and the Wi-Fi didn't work 80% of the time, and when it did it was too slow to even buffer YouTube videos. For $120 a night this place is a ripoff and a half. I'd recommend this pace to anybody who wants to be overcharged, stolen from and treated like shit as soon as they get their hands on your money. At the very least don't make the mistake of paying cash like we did because they know that you can't dispute the charges and that's probably part of the reason that they're so careless. I know that if this had been paid with a cc we'd be seeing about $700 refunded any day now. read more
