Some other reviewers have said, "Pittsfield is not where you really want to stay when you're in The Berkshires." I have lived in Southern Berkshire County for 23 years, so I know the truth of that. However, if you do have to stay in Pittsfield as I just did you can do no better than Hotel on North. It's funky, unique, and you're in the center of...umm...everything? Ok, while Pittsfield may not have the elegance of other Berkshire locations it does make up for it in...umm...urban funk. Sure, you'll see some unsavory types in the area, and some storefronts are closed, but there are moments of beauty if you intentionally direct your gaze and squint a bit. Hotel on North is one of those. My husband and our two pups just spent the night in the Library Suite. It's a big, bright, high-ceilinged room with much going for it. Large windows, wall-to-wall bookcases, a large bathroom with a walk-in shower, clawfoot tub, and water closet help make for a gracious home away from home. Yes, but t could all use an update, but...umm...Pittsfield. We even hosted an intimate cocktail party and had a comfortable, relaxed time doing so in the Library Suite. Finally, the staff was efficient, and the bed was comfortable and well outfitted. The four of us slept well. With so much going for it, there are a few pet peeves that I would like to share to help those considering a stay to plan accordingly. - While there are power outlets everywhere in the suite, there isn't a single USB outlet to be found. Bring a brick with you to charge your devices. - While there's a hand shower at the tub, there isn't one in the gigantic shower. I'm sorry, but rainforest heads do not lead to a clean undercarriage. Consider installing a hand shower for guests who want a full-body cleaning. - The lighting is odd. The bookcases light up throughout which is lovely as ambient lighting. (Sadly, during our stay one entire bookcase wall was completely out and I notified the hotel to alert engineering.) The overhead light has no dimmer. The switches control strange lights. That said, with tenacity, we managed to create an appropriate lighting scheme for the evening. - The kitchenette...oh, the kitchenette. It has the potential to be a small gem as, although small, it is the size of many a NYC kitchen. However, it is outfitted with two dorm refrigerators, a microwave, coffee maker, and a bar sink with a faucet that is way to large to use without splashing. There's not a utensil, sponge, dishwashing liquid, or plate. So, be sure to bring your own if you're planning on eating in the suite with anything other than your hands. This is all an easy fix for the hotel. All in all, it was a perfect evening in...umm...Pittsfield. If you want to make your stay in Pittsfield a lot less pitsy , Hotel on North is the place for you.

Pros: spacious rooms and bathrooms! If you have kids, you can easily fit a stroller and crib. If you're traveling with anyone who is wheelchair bound, the wheelchair can easily move around in the bathroom!Love the aesthetic of the building and the rooms! There's ample, free parking behind the hotel. Cons: they're short on staff so our room wasn't ready until after 3PM. While the bed is comfortable the pillows were the absolute worst!! I ended up sleeping without a pillow!

Hotl on North - Great hotel in the heart of the Berkshires

Really nice hotel, quirky but refined. Lots of restaurants close by, museums, and theaters. Gorgeous 2nd floor atrium with books and games. Our room had a small library and lovely decor. Internet is a bit spotty at times.

I found myself in town for work and ended up staying at Hotel On North for 2 nights on a video shoot. Without being too verbose, this is a hotel truly deserving of a 5-star rating. The building is beautifully styled and remodeled, my room was immaculate and well designed, but the best part hands down had to be the service. Every one of the staff exuded a kind/warm demeanor and made my stay notably comfortable! Just dropping a review as a thank you to the employees. Hope to see them again the next time I find myself their beautiful tiny town.

This hotel is interior design GOALS. Everything on my weekend getaway here was clean, beautiful, and comfortable. The common area was perfect for taking a morning meeting when I didn't want to disrupt my partner's sleeping in. Staff were very friendly and professional. An added unexpected bonus was free electric vehicle charging in their lot!

Definitely not the most economical lodging option in the Berkshires, but Hotel on North is adorable! I was scared off the other more wallet-friendly hotel options in the area, given their horrible reviews, so since I was on vacation, I decided to splurge for a night and I'm so glad I did! The most compelling reason to stay at Hotel on North is that it's around the corner from the Barrington Stage Company theatre, which was my target destination to attend a show. Room- lovely details (dimmer switch and multiple wall hooks (9) in the bathroom), robes, original looking wood floors, water carafe on the bedside table, drinking glasses made from wine bottles. All the rooms are different, but my standard queen room was very spacious- bed and linens were super comfortable, and the bathroom is spotless and gorgeous. Hotel - No question, the hotel is beautifully designed and appointed. The front desk staff is super helpful and friendly. The lobby has lovely common seating areas, and the most amazing chandeliers. I didn't know that the different floors have sitting areas but go find them! I love the restaurant and bar downstairs (Eat on North)...definitely a great reason to stay at the hotel, and is a great place before and after seeing a show at the Barrington theatre. One gripe- the gate to the parking lot behind the hotel is not key card activated...you have to call the front desk and they literally have a clicker to press the button to open the gate. The first time I called, that put me on hold, so I ended up parking on the street and needing to come back to move it later.

The nice little sitting/writing area in the room.

BEWARE of this Hotel and its unprofessional, and downright cruel GENERAL MANAGER - LAURA RUMMEL!!!!…read more We had a terrible encounter here at this Hampton Inn with Laura Rummel, General Manager. I would steer clear of this hotel and go elsewhere if you are able to as she is unprofessional, rude and condescending. I have been a loyal Hampton Inn customer for decades and a DIAMOND HILTON member, and have never in my life had a negative interaction with any hotel personnel, particularly a General Manager! This is my first complaint, but I felt it was quite necessary to help others to avoid this abuse. My 5 year old daughter attempted to get a paper cup off of the counter during breakfast, and was scolded by Ms. Rummel and told no that she could not get a cup. My daughter came back crying hysterically. I approached Ms. Rummel and asked what she had said to my daughter since she was crying, and was told that she told her NO bc she was "messing up her teas." I looked over and saw 2 tea bags that were somewhat out of place. I asked my daughter to clarify what had happened, and she stated that she was trying to get the cup and the teas got caught on her sweater, so she was placing them back. I went back to discuss this misunderstanding with Ms. Rummel, who was adamant that my daughter was out to mess up the coveted teabags here. So, I asked her name and explained to her that I thought she was unkind for making my daughter cry, and that it was odd that she did not feel badly or even attempt to apologize for making a child cry. **She blatantly told me that SHE WAS NOT GOING TO APOLOGIZE, and that my daughter should not be messing up her teabags and that she should not have been unaccompanied (mind you - 6 ft from where we were eating breakfast in a clear vantage point of me). I informed her I would be making a complaint with Hampton and she told me she "DID NOT CARE, BECAUSE AS THE GENERAL MANAGER - ALL COMPLAINTS COME TO HER ANYWAYS." After I told her I would be calling corporate, she continued to double down on this statement multiple times that it didn't matter, since the complaints come to her.** So, BEWARE if you choose this hotel that clearly Ms. Rummel is an unhinged individual with a power complex, and will not care about your well-being, and, in fact, overtly try to to make you feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Save yourself some frustration and mental anguish and stay at another Hilton property, or at least until Ms. Rummel has been replaced.

When evaluating hotels, I always look at the same things…read more First of all, how is the lobby. In this case, the lobby was bright cheery yet had ample seating for folks to talk and congregate . Second, I consider lighting both in the hallways and the lobby and in the room. In this case, the lighting at all of those locations was quite good if not,l excellent. Third, I consider water pressure. Hotels have a way of putting all these flow restrictors on faucets so that folks can't really wash off the soap and subsequently end up walking around with oily matted hair. Water pressure for me is a key variable when deciding whether or not to stay at a given location and, one of the reasons I often times regret staying at a particular location. In this case, the water pressure was good to good plus. Fourth , I take a look at add-ons, do they have a bar, do they have a restaurant, do they have a pool or hot tub, etc. ? In this case they had a restaurant on site which was nice along with a bar. Both of these were a great feature for hanging out with folks. They also had a pool. Finally, I look at Service. Will they provide and do they provide daily turnover of the room? Are the folks at the front desk available, and eager to help? In both of these cases at this particular location all of that was true. The folks at the front desk were nice. They were willing to turn over the room daily. No complaints here. For all of these reasons, I would give this place one notch up from average.

The room was on the back side and looked out on a nice green landscape, we weren't too far from many places to eat but I think we just got something to-go at Guido's which is right in front (it's more of a grocery store but they have plenty of prepared food options). I still like Hampton a bit better as they include breakfast but this is a nice alternative.

We stayed in a one-bedroom suite on the 4th floor with beautiful mountain views. We knew we needed a place for 150 people and we knew we wanted it to be drivable for both family and friends in upstate New York and Boston.   We stumbled upon The Lake House Guest Cottages of the Berkshires after months of searching, but the only wedding we had seen hosted there was inside the main cottage. Reluctantly, we decided it was probably too small for us.   Fast forward another month.  Randomly one night, my wife and I both separately pulled up the venue again and I said, "We need to just call them. Maybe they have some grass we can put a tent on." After a couple of email exchanges, Eric, the owner, and Cory, the grounds keeper, invited us out to see the space and were instantly sold. The beautiful grounds, the stunning cottages (or as we like to call them, "mini mansions"), THE VIEW.   Not only did they have four cottages on site where guests could stay, but they also had a field where they had placed a tent for previous weddings that could hold up to 150 guests. We soon found out that over the winter months they would be adding three additional cottages for guests to stay and a seasonal tent to be used for weddings throughout the summer and fall. Needless to say, we booked it.   A couple months into planning, LHGC added a wedding coordinator to their awesome team.  We connected with Kelsey instantly, discussing plans we had made and things we had coming down the line. She was always available if we had a question or concern. Come time to do our walk through before the wedding, we laid out the entire day with the help of Kelsey and our caterer.  We walked away knowing we had the dream team on board.   When our weekend approached, all the new additions were complete and the space was more beautiful than ever. We had our rehearsal brunch Friday morning and welcome party Friday night, both of which allowed for the caterers to take full advantage of the catering kitchen in the main cottage. Kelsey and Cory were completely accommodating and there from start to finish to help with anything we needed.   Our guests arrived sporadically from Friday morning through the evening and spent time playing lawn games, kayaking and paddleboarding on the lake, and enjoying each other's company.  It was so nice to have the entire grounds at our disposal.   On our wedding day, it was just the same. Everything went off seamlessly. Kelsey and Cory were both there if something came up, made sure that set up was perfect, ran the ceremony and reception smoothly and effortlessly.   Our wedding was perfect. It was everything we could have dreamed it to be and more.   Thank you, LHGC, for welcoming us to the family!  We look forward to spending many anniversaries with you on Pontoosuc Lake!
