Fantastic experience, for our wedding guests! Last weekend, Hotel on North provided rooms to our wedding guests. It could not have been better. From the first contact with their Sales Manager to checking out on Sunday of the wedding weekend, every interaction was positive. They were incredibly flexible, always interested in helping and the employees onsite were equally so. Accommodating and genuinely wanted to help. Parking is plentiful and free. The rooms were spacious with comfortable mattresses, pillows and great sheets and towels. The lobby coffee, open 24 hours, was a wonderful touch. In the coffee is in a lounge area where friends would gather. In the area, we wanted a large enough hotel for 25+ guest rooms, relatively close to the wedding venue (15 minutes away) and with a unique design. We couldn't have asked for more. Five stars for the hotel, but I wouldn't stay here again. Pittsfield is not very nice, and stands out in an area of otherwise very nice towns. This was a funky, redone old building. It was a roomy place to stay with a comfy king size bed, 2 wing chairs, a mini library and a beautiful bathroom. Large windows overlooked Front Street. Downstairs was an upscale restaurant, we got in late the first night of our stay and had hand crafted cocktails and appetizers, both amazing. A very cool boutique hotel right in the middle of downtown Pittsfield. Every room is different. The service is absolutely outstanding. I really felt catered too. If I had to express concerns, my first is that there was not sufficient lighting in the room. Everything felt dark and we even left a scarf behind. Fortunately, housekeeping called And I got my scarf returned. The other problem is that there is no breakfast. There are good breakfast places, nearby, but sometimes you're in a hurry. I wish they would have had something even simple so that we didn't need to go down the street. read more

One night stay . I got upgraded to I think a suite with a kitchenette with clothes washer/dryer(never seen in a hotel ) and gorg bathroom with claw foot tub and shower . My only complaint was bed too firm for me. Seems to be on a somewhat main strip of this tiny town which looks like it's getting revamped/revitalized . Lovely upstyled modern leaning joint with swank restaurant and bar. Very good for a Berkshire get away base as you are close to all the sites . Good size parking lot behind. It's not cheap surprisingly for being in the middle of not much but the pickings are slim in this area for hotels that's aren't chain or bed/breakfast so would come again. read more

Just did an overnight trip to getaway. Normally, we stay at Red Lion Inn when in the Berkshires but decided to switch it up due to the RLI being crazy expensive on a Saturday. I guess everyone else had the same thought. Hotel was very 'covid-minded' which was great ... hand sanitizer, mask enforcement and though they mentioned that the hotel was busy, we hardly saw anyone else the whole time we were there. Free parking is nice ... hotels in small cities tend to drive revenue by adding un unnecessary charges but we were pleased not have to pay parking or resort fees here. The value for the price we paid ($200) was average, though given the area ... maybe a bit high. Pittsfield is not where most would want to stay when visiting the Berkshires for fun, honestly. It's not a terrible location (right in between North Adams and West Stockbridge/Lee area) but it's a 15-20 minute drive from many of the attractions. The city itself is a little downtrodden. It's not entirely safe to walk around after 9 p.m., most restaurants close early, there really isn't a late night bar you'd be comfortable in and it feels kind of deserted on the weekend. Many of the businesses/shops had 'Going out of Business' signs in their windows or were just flat out closed. The city itself is beautiful with an interesting combination of 1920's Romanesque architecture, Victorian and 1970's brutalist inspired buildings. This hotel was part of an effort to revitalize the small city. The hotel has a vintage vibe to it ... but feels modern, clean and upscale. Hipsters would be very comfortable here and it seemed like a younger crowd that was staying here. Other than an interesting 'foyer' with couches, bookshelves and tables in the center of where the rooms are ... the hotel is short on amenities. The bar/restaurant is closed until (maybe) spring, there is no pool/spa and if there was a fitness center, we weren't told about it. However, it is a nice little escape because of the beautiful design elements. This is not the type of place you'd expect to find in a city like Pittsfield ... it feels more like a hotel in Portland, Oregon or Seattle. The rooms have interesting features such as weathered wooden floors, brand new bathrooms, some with rain showers or claw foot tubs, high ceilings, big windows and interesting 'Restoration Hardware' type of light fixtures. There is a sitting area and a bed area in the deluxe rooms ... we thought the televisions were a bit small (maybe 32 inches) but the 1940's style vintage looking radio with bluetooth and digital tuning was a nice kick. The rooms felt a bit sparse ... but a good blend of modern and vintage. We'd personally liked to have seen better artwork, or large black and white photographs that might make the decor a bit more interesting. But if you like clean and uncluttered and a bit 'boho' ... much of this hotel is an instagrammer's delight. The bed was comfortable, although the sheets felt a bit like cardboard. Each room is laid out a little different, with different features and layouts. I think that's kind of cool because it gives you something to look forward to when you return. However, it is a bit of a pig in a poke as when we were checking out, we saw some other open rooms and liked ours a LOT better. I usually request a room with a walk-in shower as I HATE combination tub/showers where you are basically standing in a bathtub. The rainfall shower is very relaxing, good water pressure and temperature. The star of the show was the bathroom vanity, which was a large marble table with PLENTY of extra space to put stuff. Also awesome was the fact there was a dimmer switch on the vanity lights, so you could turn the lights down low and relax. The bar/restaurant is closed but you can order beer and wine to be delivered to the room or picked up at the front desk. They have quite a selection of canned beers ... mostly local. A HUGE wine selection and availability of bottles or half bottles. I have eaten at the restaurant before and it's great ... as to what's around for food ... there's a Mexican place within walking distance, An Italian restaurant which we did not enjoy, and you can drive 10 - 20 minutes for some other restaurants. During covid and during the winter, there are not many options for sit-down food in Pittsfield itself. We had a great breakfast sandwich at a place called Dottie's nearby. It's a cool little coffee shop that is very hipstery/weathered. All in all, we enjoyed our 'escape' to Hotel on North. It was exactly what we were looking for ... no crowds and a socially distanced escape. The front desk staff were great ... I believe it was Josh during the day and Matt(?) at night. Both were great with recommendations, accommodations, etc. The whole vibe felt kind of like Schitt's Creek to us in that Pittsfield itself was a city where you drive through and sort of feel like you want to get away from ... but when you are there, it's relaxing and fun and 'organic'. read more

Some other reviewers have said, "Pittsfield is not where you really want to stay when you're in The Berkshires." I have lived in Southern Berkshire County for 23 years, so I know the truth of that. However, if you do have to stay in Pittsfield as I just did you can do no better than Hotel on North. It's funky, unique, and you're in the center of...umm...everything? Ok, while Pittsfield may not have the elegance of other Berkshire locations it does make up for it in...umm...urban funk. Sure, you'll see some unsavory types in the area, and some storefronts are closed, but there are moments of beauty if you intentionally direct your gaze and squint a bit. Hotel on North is one of those. My husband and our two pups just spent the night in the Library Suite. It's a big, bright, high-ceilinged room with much going for it. Large windows, wall-to-wall bookcases, a large bathroom with a walk-in shower, clawfoot tub, and water closet help make for a gracious home away from home. Yes, but t could all use an update, but...umm...Pittsfield. We even hosted an intimate cocktail party and had a comfortable, relaxed time doing so in the Library Suite. Finally, the staff was efficient, and the bed was comfortable and well outfitted. The four of us slept well. With so much going for it, there are a few pet peeves that I would like to share to help those considering a stay to plan accordingly. - While there are power outlets everywhere in the suite, there isn't a single USB outlet to be found. Bring a brick with you to charge your devices. - While there's a hand shower at the tub, there isn't one in the gigantic shower. I'm sorry, but rainforest heads do not lead to a clean undercarriage. Consider installing a hand shower for guests who want a full-body cleaning. - The lighting is odd. The bookcases light up throughout which is lovely as ambient lighting. (Sadly, during our stay one entire bookcase wall was completely out and I notified the hotel to alert engineering.) The overhead light has no dimmer. The switches control strange lights. That said, with tenacity, we managed to create an appropriate lighting scheme for the evening. - The kitchenette...oh, the kitchenette. It has the potential to be a small gem as, although small, it is the size of many a NYC kitchen. However, it is outfitted with two dorm refrigerators, a microwave, coffee maker, and a bar sink with a faucet that is way to large to use without splashing. There's not a utensil, sponge, dishwashing liquid, or plate. So, be sure to bring your own if you're planning on eating in the suite with anything other than your hands. This is all an easy fix for the hotel. All in all, it was a perfect evening in...umm...Pittsfield. If you want to make your stay in Pittsfield a lot less pitsy , Hotel on North is the place for you. read more

If you're traveling with anyone who is wheelchair bound, the wheelchair can easily move around in the bathroom!Love the aesthetic of the building and the rooms! Checking in was a breeze. First time staying here, love the ambiance of the exposed brick and local art displayed in the lobby. Parking in the back was nice and convenient. Our room was huge, the beds were very comfortable and Cozy. We had an issue with the tv remotes and had to shut off the old fashioned way, but that was our one complaint. The bathroom was large and beautiful, excellent shower and loved the industrial chic design. Check out was equally easy and the receptionist was very pleasant. I would definitely stay again and I recommend you try it next time traveling to the Pittsfield area. read more

I found myself in town for work and ended up staying at Hotel On North for 2 nights on a video shoot. Without being too verbose, this is a hotel truly deserving of a 5-star rating. The building is beautifully styled and remodeled, my room was immaculate and well designed, but the best part hands down had to be the service. Very nice hotel, staff, and dining room. Why did I only give it 4 stars? Because when I arrived at 2:30 I was told that check in is at 4 and I would have to pay $19 to get into my room early. They said the room was already cleaned, but the towels and soap had not been put in the room and they would have to stop a staff member from cleaning another room to place the towels in the bathroom. I told them I would go to the room without the towels which could be brought later, but the person at the desk said he had to wait until the room was signed off before he could give me the key. It is not the $19 ($22 with tax), but it felt so cheesy. I could understand it I came before noon, but this was just 90 minutes early and the room had already been cleaned. A first class hotel should not try to nickel and dime its patrons. read more

When I made reservation for 2 rooms, I noted I needed a wheelchair accessible room. I came in with my parents and my father was in a wheelchair. I reminded front desk at check in that I needed a wheelchair accessible room. He checked a book and confirmed the room was fine. In the morning, my mom told me there were steps in the room from the door and to the bathroom. She had a very tough time helping my father. I didn't find out until the morning when we were checking out. My room on the other hand had no steps. The manager confirmed my parents were given the worst possible room in the hotel, but only gave us a small discount even though we were paying full price. They have no gym or amenities. There's no mini bar and the shop is very limited. The hallways were dirty but the rooms were clean. It has a cool style to it, but the service is terrible. read more

Definitely not the most economical lodging option in the Berkshires, but Hotel on North is adorable! I was scared off the other more wallet-friendly hotel options in the area, given their horrible reviews, so since I was on vacation, I decided to splurge for a night and I'm so glad I did! The most compelling reason to stay at Hotel on North is that it's around the corner from the Barrington Stage Company theatre, which was my target destination to attend a show. Room- lovely details (dimmer switch and multiple wall hooks (9) in the bathroom), robes, original looking wood floors, water carafe on the bedside table, drinking glasses made from wine bottles. All the rooms are different, but my standard queen room was very spacious- bed and linens were super comfortable, and the bathroom is spotless and gorgeous. Hotel - No question, the hotel is beautifully designed and appointed. The front desk staff is super helpful and friendly. The lobby has lovely common seating areas, and the most amazing chandeliers. I didn't know that the different floors have sitting areas but go find them! I love the restaurant and bar downstairs (Eat on North)...definitely a great reason to stay at the hotel, and is a great place before and after seeing a show at the Barrington theatre. One gripe- the gate to the parking lot behind the hotel is not key card activated...you have to call the front desk and they literally have a clicker to press the button to open the gate. The first time I called, that put me on hold, so I ended up parking on the street and needing to come back to move it later. read more

What a great local gem Never been to this area and i was traveling for work, this just happened to be the closest hotel to where i needed to travel to in the morning. Spent two amazing nights and now I hate all other hotels. An amazing updated room that someone managed to feel like i time traveled into a weird time where we have large LED TVs, brick walls, and old rickety hardwood floors. Seriously felt like i was in the 1900s, but in a super classy way. Not in a "we haven't updated this hotel since the 1900s" way. The room was way too big for one person but really, who can complain about that? Great service and the restaurant downstairs was really great. The free breakfast was simple with muffins, granola, and doughnuts. But i honestly didn't mind. read more

"I feel like I'm in Pinterest." - My fiancee, speaking about our stay at Hotel On North 11:00 AM on Valentine's Day, my fiancee and I decided that we wanted to take an impromptu night away, somewhere where we could enjoy the night and have some good food and wine. When I came upon Hotel On North online, I was immediately interested. We booked it and were on our way. Individual quirks abound at Hotel On North, from the vintage sporting equipment on the walls to the retro-style fixtures in the individual rooms. There are vintage games to be played in the lobby area, and our floor has a large, skylit reading/gathering area. The room we were in had high ceilings with enormous windows overlooking the street, a small parlour area with two sitting chairs, a modern-industrial writing desk, and a cute little "vintage" radio (which we connected to via Bluetooth on our phone for a little in-room jazz). The bed was incredibly comfortable; the shower had great pressure. Overall, all of the things I look for in a hotel were met and then some. We were also extremely satisfied with the service, one of the managers (Philip) was here in the evening and the following morning, offering us a late checkout and getting us a table without a reservation for the restaurant (on Valentine's day, no less). Loved this hotel! I'm soo a fan of boutique hotels. This one is brand spanking new, at just over a year old, yet still has tons of charm and character. In the lobby, the exposed brick, unique light fixtures, and comfy leather sofas really create a homey atmosphere. I understand that each room is unique in its layout and furnishings, yet maintains the same modern artsy feeling throughout. We ate at the hotel restaurant, which was mediocre, some standouts being the deviled eggs and ricotta balls. It is definitely pretty convenient to have it be so accessible though, since that area tends to be quiet and establishments are sparse. One can order room service from the restaurant as well. We also hung out in the lounge area on the oversized sofas, playing dominos, chess and leafing through an awesome selection of books. They even have a cute little gift shop with quality--albeit pricey--items. Overall, not sure I agree with the "$$$$" rating, more like "$$$." Most other hotels and bed and breakfasts are similarly priced in that area. If you're going to the Berkshires, stay here! read more

I really can't say enough great things about Hotel on North! My BF and I wanted to take a last-minute trip to the Berkshires for our anniversary and it was hard to find a place to stay that would accept our dog. I called Hotel on North and the manager, Kerri, was SO wonderful in accommodating us and even giving us the most amazing room to celebrate our anniversary! The hotel itself is adorable with an awesome boutique vibe and tons of character. We stayed in a few different rooms (because of our last minute booking, which we were fine with) and they were all HUGE! All very clean, everyone wearing masks, and the beds were super comfortable, too. The hospitality was amazing and we felt totally taken care of. It was our first trip to the Berkshires and I would absolutely recommend Hotel on North as a lovely, welcoming, safe place to stay. Thank you! read more

Hotel is nice, the restaurant is not. There has been several instances of negligence from the wait staff and bar tenders. We had our company Christmas party there in 2019. A creative director's chair was broken when we sat down to eat. He asked for his chair to be replace but never received a new chair. Before the end of our meal his chair broke and he fell backwards hitting his head against a brick wall. When we told the staff a woman came over an literally giggled because it happened, then she replaced the chair. This second instance is something I experienced personally. A waiter named Taylor Lucia served us our food, afterward never came back to ask for a refill on drinks or to see if the food was any good. Afterward a different waitress came over to make sure we were all done....about 20 minutes after we finished eating. During the meal, I walked to the bathroom and overhead our waiter from the kitchen saying homophobic slurs toward another employee. This isn't something that should happen in a public setting especially when their profits come from the general public. This waiter should be fired and I, as well as my coworkers, have not been back since. This place is shameful. read more

If we could give the Hotel on North more than 5 stars, we would without hesitation. They were a lifesaver for our fall wedding! We initially planned an outdoor ceremony across town- but three days before, we knew it was going to rain all day and had no idea what to do. I called the Hotel on North, and within hours, Kerri (their amazing event coordinator) helped us plan our intimate ceremony (socially distant!), set up a videochat so we could view the space, and completely saved the day! The day of, when I (the bride) didn't know where to wait, they even let us use an occupied hotel room so I could relax comfortably prior to the ceremony! The banquet hall (Shire Room) itself is beautiful- but what impressed us the most was their hospitality. We are so grateful, and cannot thank them enough for all that they did for us- they turned a potentially disastrous day into our perfect wedding that we will look back on with fond memories for many years to come! We recommend them for events or for a hotel stay, without reservation. read more

Very cool space - loved our hotel room - which was a library suite PROS 1 - LIBRARY SUITE WAS AMAAAAAZING - true sense of the word! Imagine a HUGE room with bookshelves on 3 walls brimming with a wide selection of books/classics/cookbooks/biographies/autobiographies and more. A corner suite with super-high ceilings and a comfy king bed, 2 - PRIVATE Parking available behind the hotel 3- GOOD RESTAURANT onsite CONS 1 - Front desk staff was OK - not particularly welcoming, not super knowledgeable about the area - couldn't suggest restaurants (it's OK I have YELP!) - but didn't make me want to stay in Pittsfield. Front desk could never answer how much the food in the mini bar was, etc. 2 - PITTSFIELD - meh. Much prefer other cities of Lenox, Stockbridge, Barrington - so when choosing a place to stay - not sure how much time you'd want to spend walking around Pittsfield. read more

This is the coolest hotel in the entire Berkshires! Gorgeous little Boutique Hotel and has the friendliest, nicest staff. (Kerri at the front desk was wonderful) Right on Main Street and near lots of cute shops and restaurants. Their own restaurant is fabulous too. This is a lovely hotel with large rooms, beautifully appointed and the staff is very helpful. BUT it has one very large problem. If you have a room overlooking North street, there is a good chance you will be kept awake by street work done by the city starting around 2AM going until around 5AM. This happened to me two of the four nights that I stayed there. I called the front desk and they just said this happened rather frequently. I tried to get my room moved, but the hotel was full. They offered a sound machine to block out the noise, but the sound was just too loud. The windows in my room were doubled paned, but the noise was just too overwhelming. Perhaps if the hotel tripled paned the windows that would help. Also the hotel should talk to the city about not doing road work outside the hotel during its busy season which is the summer and fall. Funny, North St is not a busy street and during the day it's very quiet. They could do work during the day without causing traffic jams. I certainly would not stay there again without assurances that no road work would be undertaken during the night or they fixed the problem. read more

Absolutely adore this place!!! The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating. As soon as we pulled up, the manager came running out to help us with our bags. We loved the room so much we didn't make it to the restaurant, which looked awesome, btw. The hotel has a beautiful energy, lovely wood flooring, super cool large bathroom, great kitchenette and the pillows were so comfortable!!! I want theses pillows! So annoyed I have to leave. read more
