My mom and I decided to spend a night in La Conner kind of last minute and a two twin room here was the only thing left in town. We generally stay somewhere else, but liked the location of this spot. We ended up having a friend join us, and they were able to put a rollaway bed in the room. Between the two twins and the rollaway, there was truly no room in there for anything else. The room was tiny and would have still been tiny with just the two beds. We didn't spend much time in the room, but it was nice to have the courtyard as another place to spend time. There are some amenities like a TV and a fridge, which was nice. The beds and bedding were pretty old. The rollaway had the nicest mattress actually, so I got lucky there. There is no AC here. We went on a day that was in the high 70s and we were dying. They did offer us another fan which was nice, but we had to sit in the room with the window and door open for about an hour to cool it down. Would not recommend a stay if it's over 75ish, unless you can sleep in a hot room. Our toilet also didn't work very well. It kept running and only flushed about half the time, which was a bit awkward. If this spot weren't in La Conner, I wouldn't have expected to pay more than $60 given the quality. I am still surprised our stay was $300 because it was definitely motel-quality, but that is the price we had to pay for a last minute plan. read more

It's a clean hotel, well-kept and furnished in the period furniture of the late 1800s to early 1900s. The individual managing the facility (owner?) is very conscientious and works to keep the place spotless. There's a sitting area patio in back, accessible only through the hotel's second-floor doorway: there are other doors that may be connected with the confectionary located on the ground corner of the same building, which closes at 7 PM on the weekends or 6 PM on weekends (as we were preparing for and later attending an afternoon wedding and evening reception, we missed checking out this business -- but the menu in each room suggests that food is available from the confectionary, if not for room service, for ordering in the patio area -- which is festively lit in the evening. Our room had a massive jacuzzi: it would be an excellent aid for health and well-being (read between the lines) if we hadn't been so busy with the wedding and reception. The downside -- if only for me. Bad knees and a shoulder that needs surgery made carrying our bags up the stairs a grueling task... 21 stairs. Ugh. Whereas the bed frame and massive headboard/foot of the bed is very attractive, I think the mattress and bed springs were also from the early 1900s... very noisy... the whole hotel would have known that we were making whoopy (read between the lines, too). Just a suggestion: the mattress is not at all comfortable. Buy a mattress and box springs that fit your bed for the comfort of your guests. Minus one point. Our bathroom didn't have any towel racks or place to hang used towels, etc, to dry out: just a suggestion, there are floor-stand towel racks, or those that can be attached to walls. There weren't a lot of receptacles for charging our ubiquitous cell phones, tablets, and computers. The WiFi seemed a bit dodgy. Eh.... So what?! All-in-all, we enjoyed our room if not so much our sleep. Beautiful place in many aspects.. read more

I very much wanted to love this hotel. It's historic, it's located on one of the cutest streets in Washington and it's very charming. The main issue I have with this sweet hotel is the beds. The beds are really uncomfortable. They dip, squeak, and do not afford a good night's sleep. I do not mind the grannycore design or decorations, I love the free coffee in the morning and the darling courtyard where you can enjoy a snack and a cup of wine while relaxing, staff are friendly and helpful but those beds are impossible to overlook. When we visited we came with another couple and confirmed that it was not just our bed, but they had an issue as well. If Hotel Planter replaces those beds, they would become a place we'd love to revisit. read more

Very sweet boutique hotel. Clean, quiet, and right on the main street. Herbal teas and chocolates available in the lobby. Coffee pot in the morning. Perfect little bakery with gluten free muffins and cookies right across the street. What could be better? We arrived late and a lovely woman took care of us, outfitting us with the last room available with room for two. High Victorian ceilings, ceiling fan, bathroom with one of those turn of the century chimney skylights. We also popped a bottle of champagne for Valentines Day. Beautiful courtyard garden with gazebo. I'm just as happy *without* the refrigerator that you'd have to unplug because it kept you up for the noise, stocked with stuff you'd rather not be tempted by. I adored Hotel Planter. Such a darling little boutique hotel close to all the cute shops in La Conner. I love floral print and pinks and greens together so I was in Heaven. You could tell the owners put so much thought into all of the details like the pretty muted pink paint and the dainty floral wallpaper and tile in the bathroom. There was also a lovely courtyard in the back for guests to use. I also loved that when we checked in, our receipt was handwritten, such a nice touch. My boyfriend and I booked the last available room at the hotel for the night we stayed and we felt so lucky. The TV was old and there weren't things like a microwave or refrigerator in the room but you don't go to La Conner for those things. You go there to live life a little slower and enjoy the little things. We felt completely relaxed in our room and it was very clean and tidy. The price was also really reasonable. We especially loved that the owner told my boyfriend and I upon checkout that he had done the work restoring the hotel when he was our age. We can't wait to visit again. read more

The TV is old.. and there is no Air Conditioning..but we didn't go to watch TV and the AC was not an issue in mid June. This is clean and nicely restored historic hotel that is very romantic. We stayed in the Deluxe Queen Suite.. It has its own 2+ person jacuzzi (The largest in-room tub like this in the several Western WA Hotels we have stayed) and there was a pair of campaign glasses next to the tub when we arrived. A clean and classic bathroom with shower. Very comfortable bed. It is up a long flight of stairs and has not been retrofitted with an elevator.. so it was nice to have been offered help with out bags as I have bad knees. Very nice staff. Its walking distance to great shops and good food on the waterfront of La Conner. My wife and I had a wonderful time and will be back. My only suggestion to the owners would be to add some kind of small music system with a plug in for MP3 players (not just iPods please) We used the small speakers on my smart phone for music. read more

We got a deal on Groupon so that's why we chose this place, and on first impression it wasn't bad at all. I thought the decor was charming - and not in a motel/hotel kind of way - and the big windows facing the street awarded some good people/rain watching. Unfortunately we were directly across from the front desk, and with no music playing in the "lobby", we felt our every word was overheard by the staff. It was a weird, quiet place that didn't feel private at all, but almost as if we were sleeping in Grandmas guest room. At night we tossed and turned on the very uncomfortable "mattress" (we later found out is was just a pillow topper, not a proper mattress) and stuck to the synthetic sheets that made us sweat even though it wasn't hot in the room at all. The good stuff: The bathroom was cute (though no bathtub), the view was good and La Conner was interesting enough - especially the pub across the street ;) But I wouldn't go back to this hotel - not even for the $69 we spent through Groupon. read more

One of the biggest challenges when going someplace new is where to stay. My husband and I both like staying in small inns, the bed and breakfast experiences are a bit uncomfortable and large hotels are too impersonal. Well we found our kind of place at the Hotel Planter. It is a historic Hotel that has been lovingly restored and beautifully appointed. We liked that there were just 12 guestrooms and yes we had our own bathroom. The parking was a concern because we had been told to park on the street. But sure enough it did not turn out to be a problem and they do have a space to unload luggage if necessary. The woman at the desk greeted us warmly and offered suggestions and to make dinner reservations for us we didn't take her up on it and later wished we had. There are many places to eat and we wound up at La Conner Seafood and prime rib. The pasta La Conner style was to die for. For breakfast we went across the street to Calico Cupboard Bakery for one of the best breakfasts we have had. I had the popeye scramble and it was delicious. We will be back for sure! read more

"Historic". Great. If all's you want in a hotel room is a bed, tv and a bathroom? then this is your place. because aside from the "old world charm" that everyone on here seems to be raving about, that's all you get. no fridge, no coffee pot, no microwave, no AC, no nothing. what you do get however is the feeling that your every move is being heard up and down the hotel. EVERYTHING creeks, squeeks, and rattles. doors, door knobs, windows, floors, beds... the "lobby" was immediately outside our door and it made me feel like I had to tip toe at all times just to keep my movements from being heard. speaking of being heard, the doors and walls are very thin and theres no such thing as not being able to hear whats going on in the lobby or your neighbors room. and vice versa. me and my girlfriend felt like we had to whisper in order to feel like our conversations weren't being heard in the hall or the lobby. speaking of being heard, you'll hear plenty of delivery trucks directly below your rattling, original wooden, single pane 1907 window, since the hotel is right on main street, where all the stores and restaurants are located. food trucks, newspaper trucks, garbage trucks, donut delivery guys, all bombard you with slamming doors, roaring engines, hydraulic dumpster lifts, and more slamming doors, men shouting to hear one another over the noises of the trucks. at 5 am!!! wouldn't have been too bad if we weren't forced to keep the screenless window wide open all night due to having no air conditioning!! feel free to welcome the noise as well as the bugs... place was a bit spendy for the room lacking everything you would think a hotel should have. I gave it two stars for the décor. its a turn of the century hotel that's been redone. its very nice if you are into old world décor and interior stylings. parking is where ever you can get it. which sucks double fold because if you just so happen to have to park down the street, or in the gravel parking lot 100 yards away, well tough luck, because now you get to carry all your stuff from where you parked, into the building, and up a very long, VERY rickety flight of stars, past the lobby where the attendant can see who is coming and going at all times, to your room. if you have food and drinks and what not that cant be left in a hot vehicle on a summer day, you gotta keep it in a cooler in your room. kinda awkward carrying a loaded cooler into a quiet, quant old world hotel. I guess that's what you gotta do when theres no fridge. for the money we could have found a much more user friendly place in a MUCH quieter location. do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here while on vacation when he got home from deployment. The room had a large bed and a huge jet tub, it was the perfect place to get reacquainted with each other again. The room faced a courtyard which gave a very intimate and private feel to our stay. The staff was really amazing, they even gave us tips of where we could go out at night a town over when everything was closed in La Conner, but left us to ourselves in our room without the regular obnoxious hotel interruptions of housekeeping mid day which we were really appreciative of. The location was perfect, we were able to leave our room, grab breakfast literally across the street, then walk along the boardwalk hand in hand while the streets filled with life. We loved this place and are already talking about planning another stay on our anniversary if we can take the time off because it's worth the trip. I recommend arriving early in the day for parking if you're going during tourist season, as it is street parking. read more

I'm going to give it a 4 star because exceeded my expectations, very unique, small but certain things make it great, the old building is true to its age gracefully, armoire and stainless steel bed fan are a plus, B&D feeling without sharing. Rooms are small but we are in La Conner, comfy bed, great coffee and close to everything. One person staff is over the top accommodating. Oversized doors and windows brings you back in time. Be sure to order a queen bed or else. Get front building unit. Closed door bathroom a big plus. Loved it! read more

We got a great rate for the off season and stayed for two nights. Perfect location for checking out the little sleepy town of LA Conner, WA . We had the deluxe queen room that was very large, super clean, and very tastefully decorated. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and loved the easy parking right out front. AND IT WAS FREE!. So was the water they provided AND the coffee in the morning. Only drawback (and almost ALL hotels are at fault) is that there is only one mirror and it is in the bathroom. Girls' weekend out, we really need a second mirror. I would have given them a five star if they had a second mirror and had served breakfast in bed :0) read more

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay. We stayed in their jacuzzi tub room. What a wonderful tub for two (with everything working well). Tall ceilings kept the room cool during a heatwave. Some of the smaller rooms on the street side were in the direct sun in the afternoon, maybe not as cool on a really hot day. We lounged in their peaceful courtyard after a day of walking around the absolutely charming town. This hotel had a lot of charming details that most hotels miss. Okay...don't kill the messenger. These reviews are very subjective. This place was booked for us by my friend. If you are a fan of the color dusty rose and blonde wood with box style tv's, no microwave, no mini fridge, no ice maker...then this place is for you. We didn't make it through the night. We parked. It was late and the key (a REAL HONEST TO GOODNESS KEY!) for the room was left for us in a "secret" hiding place...where you wipe your feet.... and we proceeded up to our room. I wondered if this place is haunted...the stairs creaked...and it had a very historic fragrance to it. I couldn't stop giggling about the fact that I could jump from the bed into the Jacuzzi tub. The manager was really nice about the fact that we found the room not to be "us"...and allowed us to return the key and checkout the same night without penalty. $160.00 +...in my opinion was a bit much for the room. But then again, we were there at the tail end of the busy season, so I guess I understand. My friend was surprised when he saw the room as he said the photos were kind of deceiving. Anyway, the room wasn't totally bad, it just lacked a lot of the modern amenities that we've become accustomed to. Oh..it did offer complimentary wi-fi. This is a cute little place and la Conner is a quiet quaint town. The building is very old and isn't this fancy place but it is historic. The walls are thin and you can hear everything going on and also feel like everyone can hear you. It is right in town so the location is great, parking is terrible however. A big thing for anyone weak, handicapped, older in age, etc, there is no elevator and you have to haul your luggage up two huge flights of stairs to even get to the check in desk. There's no bell boy, nothing. If the price was right, I would stay here again but ultimately id rather try another place out next time. read more

My wife and I were visiting LaConner where we had our first dance together. We wanted a good place to stay and were very satified. The hotel is very much reminded me of the pensiones I stayed in as a child in europe. The bedroom was a modest size with very high ceilings and clasic moldings. The veiw was of the main street and the Swinomish Slewl. The room was very clean, well decorated and the bed was exceptional. The owner and staff were available and very responsive and pleasant. We will be visiting the Planter again soon. read more

My wife and I stayed at this facility a couple of Months ago and I must say that it was a very pleasant experience from the time we checked in to the time of our departure. Not the most cosmetic on the outside but certainly nice and comfortable rooms. We stayed in room 6, with a view on the street side ( Great people watching). I would most certainly stay there again and will do so before the summer ends. Lastly on the way home I received a call from one of the staff members (all were very nice). I was informed that I had left my Nook, it was mailed to me within the week with a note "The shipment is on us please come again! With that type of thoughtful service I most certainly will! read more

Save your money and go somewhere else. unless you enjoy paying a lot of money for a "historic hotel room", room only. not that the place is not nice. it is. its just not worth the money they charge to stay... we were very disappointed in our decision to pay $140 dollars to stay here. first off, parking is STREET ONLY. period. meaning you must joust with the general population as well as other hotel guests in order to find a spot. good luck. we circled the block at least 4-5 times before having no choice but to pay 5 dollars to park in a very hot and dusty gravel lot 100 yards from the hotel. true story. if this happens to you, or even if you happen find street parking, you'll be hauling ALL your stuff up two flights of creeky stairs, (on top of a 100 yard walk), just to get to the sign in desk. once at the desk we noticed an eerie silence/smell take over the hotel. reminded me of a "ghost town" hotel. we even had to bring our cooler from the car because we had food to be kept cold and the ice would have melted in an hour if we left it in the car. did i mention there was no fridge? more on that later... everything creeks- which makes you feel as if you're walking on egg shells the whole time. not because we minded the creeking, but because we felt like the whole hotel knew exactly what we were doing at any given moment. stairs, hand rails, doors, floors, windows, bed, tables... our room was a mere 20 feet from the front desk. we felt like every word we said and every movement we made was being heard by everyone in the building via the super thin walls and a door that would barely shut. the room was small. very small. we had a queen bed and there was no more than two feet on either side of the EXTREMELY soft bed. you couldnt get the door open all the way to carry in your stuff due to the end table that was directly behind the door, keeping the door from being opened all the way! i had no idea the table was there and i opened the door the way a full grown man does, WHAMMO!!! right into the corner of the end table. im assuming the whole hotel heard it...? the bed was so soft that me and my girl both woke up with terrible aching backs. so soft that you actually sank into it, then almost couldnt get out! I say "woke up" with a grain of salt, because we had the street side room and at 5:30am sharp, the morning bustle noise began. delivery trucks directly outside our window. garbage trucks, recycling trucks, workers and what not sliding open delivery truck doors and emptying dumpsters, engines running full steam, working yelling at one another, door slamming shut, all without a single thought to the idea that it was 5 freakin 30 in the morning!!! extreme noise galore and the sun wasn't even up yet. we never did get back to sleep after that. the noise continued continuously until we left at 9:30. the room itself was very warm. partly from being on the 2nd floor, partly due to having the afternoon sun beating through the 110 year old windows, and partly due to the room having NO AC!!! we had no cloice but to open the windows and leave them open all night, just to stay comfortable. i finally got up and closed them around 2 am. this did little to stop the early morning street noise I mentioned earlier. the room was just a room with a bed and a tv/tv cabinet. nothing else. nowhere to set anything. no counter top, no desk, no fridge, no sink, no AC, no ice machine, and no clock. the ceiling fan only had one speed. slow. it also sounded as if it would fly off its housing at any moment. there was no desk. only a very small bistro table that would barely hold my lap top. the chair provided were not the type to be used at a table with a lap top. for sitting only. we had to keep the overhead lights on long after my girlfriend went to bed in order for me to use the table/lap top because there was no lamp/desk to use. unless we wanted to completely dismantle the room and move one of the lamps. the widows rattled every time someone walked down the hall or every time we walked past one of them or anytime a loud vehicle passed on the street below. I actually took a wad of toilet paper and jammed it between the glass and frame to stop the constant rattle. I understand the hotel is a "historic" landmark. with extensive upgrades and remodeling- where many of the original building pieces, such as the doors, were reused. the courtyard out back was GREAT. very peaceful and very well done. me and my girl went out there and i dozed off within two minutes. the interior décor of the building and rooms was done in very nice pastels and powder colors, with artificial floral arrangements and artwork to match. the bathroom was very nice, with a beautiful free standing sink and LOTS of room. the room appeared to be VERY CLEAN.im sure the owners are very proud of their establishment. but the theory of, "historic" or "quaint" or "peaceful", only goes so far. we were very disappointed. read more
