This is a gem to stay at. The hotel staff are wonderful. Rooms are bright and airy. We love how close it is to everything downtown.

Hotel Rialto is well-located in downtown Victoria, pretty much close to everything. The rooms were fine, the queen bed was tightly packed into one part of the room, while the bathroom was overly sized. Our room was also loud, being off the street, and I hadn't noticed but the window on top was open. It was a little quieter after I closed it. Our friend's room, in contrast, faced the back alley and was pretty quiet and had it's own sink. The hotel has a bar and restaurant called The Palms, but my companions didn't like any of the drinks they served at the bar. Overall, the hotel was a good value and I'd stay there again, probably in a room not off the street. read more

**"Unacceptable Hygiene and Pest Issues - Bed Bug and Serious Rodent Concerns"** I stayed at Hotel Rialto in early July, and my experience was both disturbing and disappointing. On the first morning, I woke up with unexplained bug bites. Since I was only staying for two nights and had never experienced bites like this before, I didn't report it to the front desk at the time. After returning home, I discovered bed bugs in my luggage. I captured one, had it tested, and confirmed it was indeed a bed bug. The bites I experienced during my stay strongly suggest that the infestation originated from the hotel. I emailed the hotel's manager, Victoria, who did respond promptly by hiring a pest control company to do an inspection. While the inspection didn't find any bed bugs, what it did reveal was far more concerning. The pest control company discovered oranges under the counter attracting odorous house ants and potentially mice. They also found mice droppings and a nest just outside the dry storage area. In the dry storage/elevator room, they noted panko crumbs and a bag of flour sitting out. While these items haven't been compromised yet, it's only a matter of time, given the presence of mice droppings on all the shelves. Most alarming was the discovery involving the curtains in the lounge on the Douglas Street side. Both sides of the curtains had been chewed, and nests were found inside them. The pest control company indicated that this problem has likely been ongoing for more than a year, given the amount of sebum from the mice fur on the floor beneath the curtains. Apparently, these curtains haven't been opened in years, making them an undisturbed haven for rodents. The pest control company flagged this situation as urgent, yet it's unclear what steps, if any, have been taken to resolve it. I now regret not reporting the bites earlier, but I was genuinely unaware of what they were at the time. I have photos of the bites and a lab report confirming the presence of bed bugs, which I'm willing to share to warn other travelers. While I appreciate Victoria's prompt response in hiring a pest control company, the issues uncovered during the inspection are simply unacceptable. These conditions point to serious ongoing hygiene and maintenance failures that no reputable hotel should have. Guests deserve a clean, safe environment, and I strongly urge management to take immediate action to address these critical concerns and take care of customers when they do have an issue. read more

I visited family in Victoria just before the holidays, and ended up snowed in for several days after our rental in Deep Cove ended. I found Hotel Rialto on Yelp and spent several days there on my own-- including Christmas-- as all of the others in our group secured flights back home. When choosing a hotel, my needs were simple: clean, safe, centrally located, and reasonably priced since I was spending additional money than what was originally planned for my trip. Bear in mind, the hotel I stayed at before we all settled in Deep Cove was a historical gem and a five star hotel. As a result, my expectations for Hotel Rialto were low. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised when I arrived at Hotel Rialto. The hotel staff were professional, kind, and attentive, and the rooms seemed as nice as any hotel I've visited over years of travel. The beds, linens, bathroom amenities, and housekeeping were excellent. The attached restaurant was also very good and offered everything from a hamburger to a high end meal. No lunch or breakfast though. Shout out to the manager m, Trevor, who held my room without changing me as I struggled to get out of the snow in Deep Cove. Maya and Gabriella at the front desk were also always welcoming and helpful. I would absolutely stay there again! read more

When most of the west coast is battling forest fires and everyone is coming to Victoria for a break from the smoke it can be hard to find a hotel room.... This hotel was sufficient - but for $200/night I'd hope for a bit more. The room was very clean and well equipped with fridge, microwave and AC. Hotel staff were courteous but not in a way that blew me away. The location is fairly central - though in a part of Victoria that has become a bit rougher than I remember it. For $200/night we were in a room that barely had enough space for a queen bed, 2 bedside tables, and desk..... which meant that the fridge and microwave were RIGHT beside the bed. This might have been a non-issue... but the fridge was LOUD. So loud that we ended up unplugging it to sleep (so not sure why we had it in the first place?) Speaking of noise, this is an older building and we could hear EVERYTHING that was going on in most neighboring rooms. Not that the hotel can do much about that - just something to keep in mind if you are hoping for a quiet/private stay. The 'view' from the window was a concrete block. I get it.... Victoria tourism took a hit during the pandemic and is trying to recover. We also happened to be there during a VERY busy week. Next time, we might try camping.... we'd save some cash and have a bit more space! read more

The staff is top notch. The bar and restaurant are great.The location is fabulous. We travel all over the world,$350 per night comes with a certain standard, and this room falls short. (St. Ermain's, Visconti Palace, Fraser Suites). (See the pictures)There is no reason to have touch-up paint on the walls. If an espresso maker is advertised on the website, then there should be one. When house-keeping comes, they should VACUUM, as part of the daily service. For $350 per night, this room is sub-standard. What stands out here to me is their service--from the front desk, the housekeepers, and kitchen staff! Lost/forgot my keys a few times, Mabel said no problem. Of course, it's a great location in DT, everywhere is walkable in this safe area, as well as the parking overnight, easy to find, free parking after 6pm all week. Includes a continental breakfast that's more than the typical; in fact, their muffins and croissants are just the absolute bomb!! Made in-house, the banana and blueberry has this nice, crunchy texture, while super moist inside. Anytime if the milk or napkins ran out, someone was always there promptly. Nice, classy seating area with high ceilings. Being a heritage building, the rooms and hallways definitely have that well-decored, character. Good-sized rooms, comfy bed, especially the bathroom with plenty of natural light, appreciated the convenient extra shelves. The business office does the job, with a computer & free printouts. Great that the hotel manager, Camille, out there to greet guests during my week stay. Definitely a repeat visit in the future, especially for business. read more

The employee at the Rialto are friendly and accommodating, though they left out some important details that might have changed my mind about staying with them. I worked in hotel auditing for about 8 years and the stay that I had with them this week would have been enough for me to fail just about any one of the 1,000+ hotels I've stayed at. I had been driving from Calgary to Victoria for business and decided to stay at a place thats known for locally for being haunted on account of the previous morgue in the basement. I grew up on the island so it's been on the bucket list since they did their renovations. After getting off the last sailing of the ferry into Schwartz Bay I gave them a call. After some rapid keyboard typing on the other end they were able to accommodate the days I was going to be in town so I headed on in. It's a historic building with a great atmosphere, nestled right smack dab in the middle of a part of town that you'll run into drug addicts and the such after dark. The front desk staff were nice enough to suggest I park my car outside where they could see it, but I thought nothing of it at the time. Seemed like a nice gesture and I proceeded to my room. I decided to head to the drug store two blocks down to grab some odds and ends. It was about this time that I realized where I was. The wrong side of the tracks. I made a comment to the checkout cashier at the drug store that this was an "interesting neighbourhood" and she looked up and said "you just figured that out?". Back to the hotel for some sleep. This is where the fun begins. The front desk staff didn't think that it would be important to inform me that my room would be directly outside an ice machine that either hasn't been serviced since they opened or was intentionally purchased for the regular banging and crashing noises it makes in order to sooth the guests. I think I got about 2 hours of sleep that night. I considered leaving this part out, but the real gem of the renovations was the toilet placement. It's not possible for an adult human to use it without standing or sitting completely sideways on the thing. The spacing between the wall and radiator makes it completely non-functional for 50% of its usage potential. That being said I packed my stuff in the morning and checked out three days early. The staff didn't bother to ask if there were any issues with the room. As I gathered my belongings I discovered on the other nightstand a set of ear plugs and a note that read "feel like you've slept in the middle of nowhere, but still be in the middle of everything". I had to sit down for a moment and chuckle. I'm not sure if the Rialto staff get different training that other hotels I've audited, but I can honestly say that they have burned a customer who is a regular business visitor to Victoria by not being upfront with me. I am sure they have some very beautiful rooms here at the Rialto but be sure to ask if you'll be near an ice machine and if they have a toilet you can utilize fully. Otherwise rest easy knowing you'll have complimentary ear plugs. read more

All you had to do was stay...... My brother booked 3 nights accommodation at this very cozy boutique hotel in Downtown Victoria. I believe he booked the reservation via hotels.com, and the payment was made in advance to secure the rate. As it turns out, our family enjoyed our stay at Hotel Rialto thanks to the exemplary customer service, hotel amenities, and comfortable room. LOCATION: Downtown Victoria near the gateway to Chinatown (incidentally the front desk did inform us that Victoria's Chinatown is the oldest in North America). HOTEL Amenities included: *Restaurant: Cafe Venato; serving breakfast and lunch *Lounge: Venato Tapa Lounge; bar and lounge where guests are able to grab a drink or a bite to eat. *Vintage Spirits: The largest liquor store in Downtown Victoria, located adjacent to the hotel lobby. There is a small discount for hotel guests, fyi. HOTEL NOTES: *Although there is no fitness center on site, the hotel has a relationship with a gym 2 blocks away called Studio 4 Athletics. See front desk for a complimentary pass. *There is only ONE elevator in the hotel. But, being that the building is only four floors, I suppose this make sense. Our room was on the second floor, so we took the stairs most of the time. *The hotel is located a bit further away from bars and restaurants, be prepared to walk at least 10 minutes to the heart of Downtown to find the limelight. ROOM Amenities included: *Flat screen television *Two queen beds with very comfortable pillows *Small refrigerator *Desk area We arrived in Victoria via the Victoria Clipper, and took a cab to the hotel as soon as we cleared customs. Unfortunately, due to the rooms not being yet ready, we were unable to check in until 3pm. The hotel staff was very considerate in storing our luggage until check in time (though I daresay this is standard practice at most hotels). Still, the staff at the front desk were extremely friendly and very helpful to say the least. Their customer service was just simply outstanding. In fact, all the staff we encountered during out stay were extremely friendly and polite. I commend the management for training their staff well in customer service relations. Thanks to the hard-working housekeeping staff, our room was kept clean and pristine during our entire stay. Our family also took advantage of the having breakfast at Cafe Venato, as the location (just off of the lobby) was very convenient. Lastly, the Venato Lounge is a great place to have a drink and unwind after long day of sight-seeing. The Lounge is modern and chic with high ceilings, wooden accents, and comfortable seating. It was a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of being a tourist. BOTTOM LINE: A very satisfactory 3-night stay at Hotel Rialto. The space is wonderful. It's small and capitalizes on the building's historic elements. There is both a bar and restaurant. The hotel is nestled between the historic district and chinatown; and a 15min walk to the ferry terminal. The surrounding sidewalks felt safe at night. The rooms are very comfortable. The hotel is a bit noisy from the street activity and drunk guests talking loudly in the halls and slam their as the stumble home from the bars. The breakfast is basically bread and coffee. (but the coffee was really good). The staff is nice but not particularly friendly. Watch your fingers as the self closing doors slab shut. read more

On a weekend get-away, we decided to stay here to, um, get-away from the city, and for once get to know DT-Victoria for what it really is. And because of the great location, we did just that, and all of that on-foot. Room type: King with two-people soaker tub (for an extra $10). Interior: simple elegant; bathroom is surprisingly spacious with a soaker tub big enough even for 4 (?), plus a standing shower stall. Price: ~$190s per night during busy season, ~$120 during off season (2013). Bonus amenities: complementary breakfast coffee and pastry. Likelihood to return: 4/5, hinging on budget. Parking is just up one street and in a very secure parking lot. $15 CN per day. Good deal. Great location and in walking distance to everything in Victoria. non need to pay the pricy tourist hotel prices by the inner harbor when you can walk there in less thank 10 minutes. The room was very nicely appointed...even with heated floors in the bathroom. The staff really made us feel welcome and important. Also, Vento, a tapas bar is right downstairs, Comfy beds with quality linens and big luscious pillows. The only thing that I feel was odd is there was no closet but still a cupboard to hang clothes. Also, I would recommend that you choose a room which doesn't face Douglas street as its a bit noisy. Nothing the hotel can control. Complementary wifi is also a plus. Enjoy your stay at Hotel Rialto. Conveniently located in the heart of Victoria and most importantly located next to a bus stop. The hotel is clean but kinda old and in need of a renovation. I liked the location but everything in my room looked old. The door wouldn't close right because the carpet was a little too high. It seemed to me like it needed some cleaning too. The bathroom was clean but everything from the bathtub to the sink looked worn out. The staff was very friendly and helpful when it came to recommending places to visit and restaurants. Stayed here for two nights on our first trip to Victoria. The location is very central which suited us perfectly! The rooms are small but adequate for what you need it for, depending on how much time you plan to stay there for of course. One of the main reasons that we booked this hotel was that it included breakfast, don't expect anything fancy with this as it's literally just cereal, toast, fruit etc. Very basic, continental breakfast. We really enjoyed the cheese plate that was complimentary from the bar. This is a great way for the hotel to get their residents into their bar. Another great thing about the hotel is that you receive 10% discount in the liquor store next door. I would recommend this hotel for value for money and location. If you don't want anything fancy, somewhere to lie your head and have easy access for everywhere you want to go then you'll love this hotel! read more

Of the few hotels in town that I've stayed at, I feel this is the best quality for the price. Very good quality rooms and a European style atmosphere in the middle of town at a modest price. The staff is very accommodating. We feel very respected no matter the request. Front desk service is very friendly and responsive. The adjacent bar is a charming place to unwind. Have a cheese plate and glass of wine, and sit back after a day out. Take advantage of the valet parking. It is a nominal premium over the park-youself option and is very convenient. Just after making my booking, I saw a couple of reviews complaining about noise, so I gave the front desk a call and asked if they could give us a quiet room. The person who answered was very warm and helpful and was able to book us a room that looks into the interior courtyard (which is not used, so there's no noise coming from there). The location of the hotel is fantastic. You're not surrounded by the expensive touristy places, but you're a walk away from most of the best stops. Unfortunately, my room was right above the bar and I found the earplugs they provided on my second night there. MOST IMPORTANT PART OF MY REVIEW: Once we got into our room, I immediately needed to use the restroom. After I started, my husband pointed out the window right next to me with the blinds open. Surely, they wouldn't have a window that would show your bizness from the very busy street and heavily occupied surrounding buildings, I argued especially given the fact that the string to close the slats is so far from the toilet that you HAVE to stand up to pull it, right? Wrong. I should have known when the car honked as I was pulling ma pants up. We checked from the street and SHO NUFF you can see all up in there. And that's the story of how I'm no longer welcome in Canada. read more

This hotel was recently renovated and it's lovely. Very modern rooms, nice appointments. The rooms remind me a little of a W hotel. We stayed in a king suite on a package with complimentary champagne, cheese plate, breakfast coffee/muffins. Wow - it was a great deal. And we were treated wonderfully throughout the stay. Ate at the very popular and busy tapas restaurant. Had a less great experience there. First night had drinks ($11 CAD each - New York prices) and the service was absolutely terrible. Second night ate dinner and had good, but very rushed, service. The food, however, is interesting and quite tasty. Highly recommended boutique hotel within walking distance of everything in the downtown/inner harbor area. This is a great hotel for a weekend getaway for two! Our room was lovely and comfortable, and even though it was on the small side, it included a kitchenette, which was handy. The staff was friendly. The bar food and drinks were good. A small breakfast of cofee and danish were included and it was just the right amount of breakfast for me. The location is fantastic! Right on the edge of downtown and Chinatown, walking distance to the Inner Harbour, Craigdarroch Castle, good restaurants and bars, and a lot of other great stuff. The free Wi-Fi is a HUGE plus. It was very easy to use, and as US travelers, we especially appreciated it since we had our phones in airplane mode so as not to incur international roaming charges. There isn't much of a lobby, but the cafe area is a nice place to sit, so that didn't bother us much. The TV in our room was at kind of an odd angle, but hey, this is minor stuff. The hotel is great looking, fresh, modern, and conveniently located! This was my husband and my fourth anniversary weekend trip, Rialto helped make it a very fun weekend! We stayed here for two nights during our honeymoon and we are extremely happy with the experience. When we got to the front desk to check in (no line) the agent, Michael, was very kind and accommodating. He checked us in to our upgraded room (!) and asked us what kind of food we were interested in. He gave us a map with a few great options, our free breakfast vouchers and another voucher good for a cheese plate in the bar!!! The room was very nice. Housekeeping made us a double swan heart out of towels and there was a card on the table with a congratulatory note for "our recent nuptials"! Very nice touch. The king bed was very comfortable and I slept well both nights. The bathroom floor was heated and the double soaking tub was a very nice perk. That sums the Rialto up at every level. The bar, breakfast staff, front desk and housekeeping folks were great on every level. The only criticism I can give is the wifi wasn't the best, a very small "complaint" in the overall scheme. Hotel Rialto was my home for two nights on a business trip recently. Check in was easy, but a little overboard with coupons for their restaurant and the liquor store next door. I'm sure some folks find this helpful and useful, but I just wanted to get to my room. My room was clean, tidy, and...fine. I surprisingly had a California king bed and it was enormous. It took up most of the room. Not a huge deal, but there was very little other space to hang out on besides the bed. The desk was so close to the foot of the bed that it was a tight squeeze. The hotel is in a great location--I walked no more than 10 minutes in any direction for what I needed: business, food, a quick walk around the wharf area. The good: reasonable prices in the heart of everything. The bad: small rooms. read more

My husband and I visited Victoria for a weekend and stayed at Hotel Rialto -- from the moment we checked in we were greeted in a cheerful way and the gentleman at the front desk took an interest in our plans, offering suggestions which was appreciated. The room was clean and the washroom was surprisingly spacious. We had no issues with noise, despite the convenient downtown location. If you are staying for a short time, Rialto offers a $10 credit dor each time you forgo housekeeping by hanging a "going green" tag on your door. Also when we checked in we received breakfast vouchers and a cheese plate voucher for the [excellent!] restaurant downstairs. Overall a great experience -- and remarkably cost-effective -- and we will absolutely be back again soon. read more

Simple understated elegance is the rule of the day at The Rialto. I booked a single king bed room and wasn't disappointed. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I've slept on in a very long time. The shower is a bit cramped, though - it's one of the glass-enclosed corner showers and, if you're on the tall side, like I am, be prepared for the shower spray to be hitting you in the face. Room furnishings were real wood, instead of the veneer or manufactured wood that most places use these days. They even provide you a bath robe (a nice touch!). Parking is a bit of an issue - your choices are street parking or a parking garage a block away - but that's no different than anywhere else downtown. Single king bed room, with coffeemaker, minifridge, microwave, shower (no tub), and complimentary wi-fi came to $149 per night, minus 10% for CAA/AAA discount. Complimentary continental breakfast is served and hot breakfast items are available for an additional charge. (pssst - save your appetite and walk a few blocks over to The Jam Cafe for breakfast. 5 out of 5 -- Best boutique hotel I've been to yet. Honestly WOW - not sure where to start. It was just perfection. King size bed, double-person soaker tub in the bathroom, heated BR floors, double sinks in the bathroom, parking lot, great location, great dinner/restaurant and they give you welcome vouchers. Newly renovated to perfection. And to top it off, their service is beyond amazing. Alex, was the front desk person who booked our reservation over the phone, and also serviced us during our stay. He was the best customer service representative I've met. He was knowledgeable on the city, the best restaurants to go to, the best running paths, etc. Knew how to relate to both myself, and my bf. Boutique hotel a little off the main strip, and subsequently a little quieter too. My boyfriend and I took our bikes aboard the Clipper up from Seattle, planning to both ride to Butchart Gardens and check out the city. The hotel staff was very gracious, allowing us to store our bikes and bags prior to check-in in a safe, interior location so we could explore downtown unencumbered. Our queen moderate room was the perfect size, blackout curtains were both chic and effective, the bed was comfortable, and we were given a coupon for a cheese plate in the adjoining tapas bar (Veneto-very nice, wonderful cocktails) as well as 2 more coupons for free muffin/pastries and beverage (latte!) for the next morning. Overall very pleased and would recommend to any traveller's with a moderate budget. read more

A nice boutique hotel in downtown Victoria BC. You can walk there from the Port Angelese Ferry and what makes Rialto's location even better is the BC public bus to Butchard Gardens that stops RIGHT in front of the hotel ! Stay here if you're visiting Victoria. My sweet amore and I just spent the New Year (2015/2016) in town and the room was just superb. Heated bathroom floors, amazing staff, great location, walking distance to everything, nice fluffy bath robes, a cafe and tapas bar downstairs.... This place does have a good thing going. Just ask for a room with a window facing outwards if you're going to be spending any real time inside your room. My room's window faced this little courtyard type thing (a potted plant surrounded by four walls and windows). Beside that, the Rialto is the type of place I want to stay at every time I travel. This hotel is awesome. The food is great and the room was very comfortable. It was a tiny bit noisy due to construction across the street but being a city girl I hardly noticed. The employees are what made it so great. Derek went above and beyond to help us in a medical time of need. The waitresses are super friendly, efficient and helpful. I can't say enough nice things about this staff. I even liked the go green campaign. If you don't use housekeeping you get $10 off! I highly recommend this hotel. read more

I had an excellent 4-night stay here. I arrived late at night, but the Rialto's front desk staff (especially Hanna) was still very welcoming and attentive to our questions and needs. The room and bathroom were very well kept, with comfortable beds and quality amenities (including high-speed wifi). I appreciated the hotel's "go green" incentive, vouchers for the lovely cafe, and access to the nearby Studio 4 Athletics gym - all very nice features that made my stay that much more enjoyable. :) The Rialto is very conveniently located in downtown, and a short and pleasant walk to most of the major attractions. There is a bus stop a few steps away from the hotel that will take you to/from the airport and ferries, and into the city as well. read more
