I have not been in the hot tubs or saunas at Hothouse. I have had a couple of massages here though, and they were awesome. I like this place. It is an all-womens spa. Yes, it is sort of in a basement, which makes it seem very tucked away. I think it is a calming environment. They have heated floors, which are pretty cool. They also have a silent reading/meditation/whatevah room. It is really very nice and not at all pretentious. The price is right too! $50.00 for an incredible massage. The spa was clean and the service was great. The place is incredibly small, and for me the temperature in the sauna and steam room was too hot to tolerate. It has a very much a cramped basement feel. I definitely prefer the more open space and variety of rooms at Olympus and Bella Luna even if I have to pay a bit more. read more

I had a pleasant Friday evening at Hot House. Came in around 5, left around 8. Overall I found it very relaxing - particularly the wet sauna. It did start to get busy around 7pm and noise levels started to get a little louder and since its so small there isn't anyway to "escape" the noise of chatty spa goers. I also received a massage (don't know her name unfortunately!) but it was just okay compared to other massages I've had. It was still very relaxing but it felt like for a lot of it she was "applying pressure" or just her pressing into a spot for a prolonged period. I don't think I'd get a massage here again but I would definitely come to the spa considering the location and the price. read more

This is a great spot for solo relaxation or to go to with some friends to relax. It is ladies only, clothing optional, and they offer massages too if you make an appointment. The space is not that big, yet holds everything needed in a spa: dry sauna, wet sauna, hot pool, cold plunge, and a chill area for zoning out with lemon water. Then it's time for you to go home to find zen. Rude woman thought she owned the place and dictated silence, and then put in ear plugs. This is the only place where I feel beautiful without clothing on. They say it is best to soak naked, I second this, it feels great and it makes you feel great. Hot House is very clean, it is afforable, and the staff is so great. All of them are vey friendly. I highly recommend the wet sauna. It feels so amazing and smells like lavender. That and the hot tub are my two favorites. They have the dry sauna, cold plunger, a relaxation area, massage, and clean water. It is an all womens spa and to make sure no men get in they have you ring the doorbell first. Just remember to bring cash or check because they don't do debit. read more

I Highly recommend visiting if you need some relaxation! The second you walk into the dimly lit environment you will need to speak quietly and take off your shoes. It's nice that the Hot House is women-only, and that they try to maintain a quiet, meditative atmosphere, but for me, that's all that was nice about it. The ambiance was as inviting as two parking spaces in an underground garage. This "spa" consists of two closet-sized saunas so small that at most, two people can lie down in them at a time, or six people could cram in to sit instead. There is one backyard-sized hot tub and the "relaxation area" was a dank carpeted area with room for but two bodies - three if everyone crams in together. This "relaxation area" is directly adjacent to the lockers and a sink, separated from the entrance by only a curtain, so lots of noise and activity to relax by. And is it even up to code to have a toilet with no locking door and separated only by a curtain from the showers? In my opinion, calling this place is a spa like calling a kid's roadside lemonade stand a restaurant. My first time will definitely be my last. read more

Hothouse is great. It is affordable, accessible and the ambiance is wonderful. The idea is to have a space where women can be naked and do not have to feel any shame about our bodies. Yes, the bathroom does not have a lot of privacy but Hothouse is not about privacy; it is about community. It is about how there is a community of women regardless of whether we have met before or it seems we have anything in common on the surface. Hothouse is a refuge for women in the city of Seattle and I highly reccommend everyone try it at least once (unless you are seriously afraid of being seen naked, in which case, you had better not.). read more

I've been there twice and received both massages from Deb. She's great and applies just the right pressure. She also managed to get rid of some shoulder pain I had been having for a while that I think was caused by a tight trapezius muscle. If you go for a massage, I recommend going early so you can soak in the hot tub for some pre-relaxation. They have a water foutain and cups there, but I like my drinking water cold so I brought my own water bottle the 2nd time I went. Both times I visited were on a Saturday afternoon and with fewer than 6 people at one time. It didn't feel crowded at all. I love the clearn and quiet atmosphere. I love love love hot house! It's just a great small environment that has everything I need. The patrons are respectful and quiet so I don't get distracted by conversations and can focus on my relaxation. I normally avoid peak times when I hear it gets crowded but even when there are several women here everybody is mindful of one another and move slowly and quietly out of eachothers way. It's almost entirely nude which can be a bit distracting. I choose to wear a swim suit which is allowed but sometimes I feel it draws more attention to me. I just love this little place, and wish it was closer to home. It's intimate and cozy and a cheaper place to go if you don't want to shell out the bucks for Olympus. The hot tub has powerful enough jets, the steam room is hot and steeamy enough (and smells like eucalyptus-yum!) and it's nice they have massage available. The only downside is that the little meditation space is next to the locker area, and it can be noisy if people are banging around and getting changed. Get a punch card if you like it, it'll save you some money and never expires. read more

This place is great, period. It's tucked away in the undercarriage of a building which seems odd but works great for a place of sanctuary. It's cash only but very reasonably priced at $15, $1 for towels and a $1 lock deposit which you get back immediately. They also offer a variety of soaps and loofahs for purchase. They have you keep technology at a minimum which is such a blessing...it forces you to relax and remove yourself from the outside world. As other Yelpers have stated, it is definitely cozy but people are incredibly respectful, quiet and peaceful. There's plenty of limes and water for hydration (I highly suggest drinking 5-8 glasses of water while in attendance, it always improves my results.) This isn't the most luxurious, decadent bathhouse you'll ever step foot into but it seriously does the job, the people who run the place are great and sometimes an all female atmosphere is what you need to really get your mind and body in check. read more

This is the first spa I've been to so I don't have much to compare to but it's a great place to go and relax. I went with a friend and we alternated hanging in the spa and getting a massage, which I regret. It would have been nicer to relax with a friend around. We arrived when they opened on a weekday so we had the place more or less to ourselves for the first hour. They are true to their word and everything is HOT. I barely made it 5 minutes in the sauna and less in the steam room. The hot tub was amazing and being able to cool off with the cold shower was surprisingly amazing. We got a massage from Lorraine - who I recognize is a contractor and not "technically" a Hothouse employee. I have to say I did find the massage disappointing. She did a lot of energy work, which I don't really jive with (my fault for not speaking up while I was there.) My biggest complaint was for 3 days afterwards my lower spine (not the paraspinal muscles) really HURT. I can't say for certain it was the massage, but that was really the only deviation from my normal activity that I did. I would come back to relax but next time I'd come with a friend and skip the massage. read more

I LOVE Hothouse!! Like everyone else has said, it's small, but I've never felt crowded. I kind of like the secret feel of it. You'd think the nudity would be weird because of our society, but in this atmosphere it's really not. Actually I went once and there were 3 ladies in suits and that was more weird. It's true the toilet room only has a shower curtain, but I've never had an issue with that. It kind of encourages you to make it quick. It's not super posh, but for a mere $12 per great experience I can live with that. The one downside I did find is the meditation space is in the locker area and people seem to not notice the folks trying to relax. Is it really too much to ask to refrain from banging around? It is possible to dig through a locker without hitting the lock on every single surface, I've done it. That's not a problem with the Hothouse itself, people just need to be more mindful if their surroundings. read more

I LOVE Hothouse! I have been going there for years and am glad to see they just celebrated 10 years of business. Hothouse offers incredible consistency and the cleanest environment I ever seen at a spa. Going to this spa is my main form of stress release - I honestly don't know what I'd do without it! I have a high stress job and it makes all the difference to a have beautiful sanctuary away from my home that I can go to and RELAX. It is the most affordable place for hydrotherapy and massage I know of. I have never had a bad massage experience from any of the massage therapists. I've received massage from every single one of them. They are all professional and very skilled. I hosted a bachelorette party here last Friday for 4 girls. It was WONDERFUL. I had never been to the spa before, so I didn't know what to expect, but it was really perfect for an intimate gathering like ours. We started off with an introduction from the front desk person. We were given water with lime and towels, and showed around the small spa. The sauna was lovely, perfectly hot. I spent most of my time in the hot tub, which was delightful to lounge in and around. It was great common space for the four of us to gather and gab. I also arranged for the massage therapist to come and do massages for the other 3 girls. While I didn't get a massage myself, the girls reported back that the massages were super great. The therapist even did a session with my pregnant friend, and it was apparently glorious. All-in-all, Hothouse was an awesome experience. Perfect for a bachelorette party, and a wild bargain at $150 for 2 hours of private spa time. Couldn't recommend it enough. read more

It's extremely professional and everyone is very friendly! compared to other places, it's really cheap and inexpensive, and very well maintained as far as cleanliness is concerned because I am a HUGE germaphone. And best of all, there is also on-site massage therapists. I was in need of a serious deep tissue massage due to tension knots built up in my neck and upper back that were just killing me and I cannot remember the massage therapist I saw but I felt like a lot of the muscle tightness and pain had dimished and I felt a million times better. I was recently in Seattle on business and had the pleasure of finding this little gem. I was not able to enjoy the steam or sauna facilities but I did have, what was perhaps the most amazing massage of my life! I have unusually tight muscles and the amazing Kelly (Wednesday nights) did a combination of trigger point, Lomi Lomi, etc... and worked out every kink, knot and pain in my entire body. The setting is fairly sparse and understated (think college dorm room) but the massage is better than what you would find at the Four Seasons or at a therapeutic massage office. If you are lucky enough to find this place as I did, you are in for a treat!! read more
