I deeply considered gatekeeping this place, but I realize that if more people visited Hothouse Spa, then the world would be a better place one person at a time. It's my first spa experience, and I couldn't be more pleased! Loved the cleanliness, strength of the jets, and the serene ambiance. I have a sensitive nose, but it was never triggered. This place has switched to a private rental-only business model and I AM HERE FOR IT! It was so, so amazing having the entire space (comprising a tiled hot tub, eucalyptus/lavender steam room, sauna, cold plunge shower area and relaxation area) to ourselves. Words cannot describe how amazing it is to be able to do numerous hydrotherapy circuits at our own pace, choose if we want to chat or to embrace silence, and rest comfortably in the relaxation area without worrying about having to scramble for a particular station before someone else grabs it. Skylar who manages the facility is an absolutely wonderful human as well. The place was immaculately clean when we went, and had an incredible 90mins of pure relaxation without worrying about squeezing in a small space with others or catching germs in a public facility. 10/10 would recommend and we will be back! read more

We came to hot house spa & sauna for my boyfriend's birthday. We really enjoyed our time here. We loved the private spa experience and the 2 hours flew by so fast! While the cost was pretty pricey it was 100% worth every penny. The facility was super clean, and the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. My favorite part was the herbal steam room and my boyfriend loved the tiled hot tub. I recommend using the cold plunge shower and drinking lots of water between each sauna experience to refresh yourself since you will get very hot. We will definitely be coming back when we are in need of a relaxing getaway for the afternoon! read more

Loved this place! My friend booked this place for our anniversary and we had the place to ourselves earlier this year during COVID. It felt relieving and healthy to switch from the sauna, to the freezing ice-cold shower, steamer and the pool. My wife has been going here for years. For the first time I got to go too due to the private reservations that are now available to anyone. The ambiance is very chill and relaxing. The space is amazing. It features a steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, meditation area, showers and everything you need to de-stress, relax and feel human again. Covid-19 has screwed everything else up. This was a birthday gift from my friend while we were in Seattle so we only ha read reviews off of Yelp. The entrance of the spa is very nice and appealing. The spa itself is very clean and quiet. The person who greeted us was very friendly and showed us around. We thought it would be much bigger. It did have a hot tub, steam room, sauna, 2 showers, and relaxation room. The cold plunge really wasn't a cold plunge but a shower (looked like the shower in your high school chemistry class). The relaxation room isn't that relaxing since it shares the room with the lockers and is only divided by a table where people get their water to drink. There is 1 bathroom that you must knock at because there are 2 entrances. The door from the lockers and a shower curtain into the 2 showers. Please don't expect this to be like a regular spa. There are 2 shampoo/body washes(one with fragrance and the other without) but definitely not of high quality and one blow dryer in the bathroom. It felt too crowded with 3 to 4 people there and clothing is optional. It felt like a very tight space. Make sure you bring your own towels (preferably 2-3 towels) otherwise you will have to rent them from the spa and they are NOT spa quality. They are very old and hard. The best part was the massage. I have to say with everything I didn't care for, the massage was heavenly. The room was clean and the massage therapist was sweet and knowledgeable. I think if you are looking for a true spa this is not for you however, if you just need a massage or just a quick hit in the sauna or hot tub than this is the place to go because it is inexpensive. read more

I was traveling in from the East coast and wasn't meeting with my family until the evening, but was desperately in need of a hot shower and a power nap. Almost magically, I found this place a couple blocks from where I was staying. It's a humble place, but lots of little thought out details and a cozy vibe made it such a wonderful experience. It's clean, smells good, there are little lime slices and glasses for water (though bringing your own non glass water bottle is encouraged), a shower with soap, steam room, dry sauna, hot tub, and cold shower, along with a rest area that has mats, pillows, and fuzzy blankets. It's a clothing optional facility, and I found that I felt super comfortable despite being AFAB nonbinary (I discussed this before entering to make sure my presence was ok). Ultimately I had a great time, and this experience has definitely made me rethink the way I travel! read more

Hothouse is a local own female spa house located in cap hill. A hidden safe relaxing environment in the busy Seattle. There is wet spa and dry spa, two shower spot, a relax room and of course, a hot tub. If you have time, get a nice massage there as well. Have I mentioned it is also very affordable as well? This is a cute, small, and welcoming place but there are just a few things that stick out to me and why I have to give it three stars. Pros: it's women's only, in the heart of the city, and has both a dry spa and a wet spa. The staff there are very friendly and kid. Cons: it's $18, or $19 if you need a towel. I think this is a bit over priced for what you're getting. If you need to go to the bathroom, you kind of have to pray no one walks through one of the two unlock-able entries. That's right! It's a swinging door, the toilet room, and then a curtain separating you from the showering room (which you have to use before entering the spas or hot tub) and then another swinging door to the spa. There is a small area where you can lay down to rest and dry off but there is almost always one old lady there taking up the entire area (that's for three people) that doesn't move for the entire 2 hours you're there. Despite the cons I still come here once every other month. It's warm and cozy and the only other hot spa costs $26- however it has many MANY more amenities. read more

I love that there's a hot sauna place open until late at night that I can go and relax whenever I feel like. This place is really reasonably priced at about $12 a visit (sure it's much smaller but it's not as expensive the $38 that you have to splurge at the Olympus Spa) and is in the middle of Capitol Hill (read, convenient for a Seattle habitant like I am!). Although the place is a bit small, I like the fact that whenever I go there --mostly very late at night, say 10pm-midnight, there won't be too many people there. I always love the fact that this place is for females only, so it's not awkward (sure some ladies probably check others out..but I'm comfortable with that and can be careless of them seeing me naked than I feel with some random guys!!). If you go at a certain time, though, I heard it can be quite crowded. I also love to get a massage there. In Seattle (other than another Chinese foot massage place in the International District), it's very difficult to find any legit massage place open for last minnute schedule or for appointments beyond 8pm. Not the case at all with Hot House. I can almost count on getting an appointment the same day (say if I call 4-6 hours ahead of time) and the massage therapist that I go see regularly there is really awesome with deep tissue (and by deep..i mean really, really deep by a honorarily-certified spa junkie like I am :)). Service is also great! The lady at the reception desk is always nice and respecful. The atmosphere is often nice, quiet and calm (minus a few unlucky days when you encounter some patrons who just can't seem to keep their conversations/voices to the minimum). The only other downside may be finding a good parking spot if you go there during the day time/evening. read more

It has been years (nine years to be exact) since I have been here for a massage but this spot was as calming and peaceful as I remember it back then. Years ago, I had come here for prenatal massages with Joya and the all women's environment and whispering only spa had relaxed me. Now two little people later, I usually am lucky to have a massage once a year... The ones I've been two have been at spas close to home where they've focused on the smelly oils and atmosphere and the masseuse hasn't always been the best. After my session with Deb I can't wait to come back for another massage. She applied the right amount of pressure to work out the knots in my neck and back. I appreciated the fact that she took the time in the beginning to make sure I was comfortable on the bed and put a pillow under my chest which really helped! I loved the hot stones that she put on my back (the first time that I've had them) and liked the simplicity of the coconut oil that she used. It was the first massage that I've had where I've been close to falling asleep being so relaxed. I highly recommend this sweet spot! read more

I can't say enough about this place.. it's really a one of a kind experience. It's great as a last minute retreat - or with a group of friends. I would recommend either going alone, with a quiet friend, or making SURE you have time for a lengthy conversation before going in. There are signs asking people to keep talking to a whisper, and that didn't work with the couple of friends who I invited and hadn't seen in months. First impression: The decor is very.....simple. The place I usually go to has art and rugs everywhere, so it was a definite change in scenery. The sauna... all I can say is I love the sauna smell! Sadly the steam room was being remodeled so we didn't get to check that one out. The hot tub was nice to warm up in but the people that came in while we were there kept turning on the jets, which kept making me feel like my stomach was rumbling. I like that you can either pay for the single visit (in cash) or you can get a pre-paid punch card for about 10 visits and save money in the long run. read more

A cute little spa with all your bare necessities. A jacuzzi, dry sauna, steam sauna, cold plunge, and showers. The sauna rooms are my favorites! When going during down times, it is quite possible that you would get the sauna rooms all to yourself, however, they can comfortably fit up to 4 people. The sauna rooms appear to be very clean and people really pick up after themselves here. They also have glasses, filtered water, and lime wedges in the resting area for everyone to stay hydrated. The cold plunge is actually a giant shower that dumps cold water on you instead of a pool. The jacuzzi, in my opinion, is not hot enough, but I spend more time in the sauna rooms anyway. The resting area is quite small as well, can fit up to 2 people at a time. There is one twin-size foam mattress and one foam pad placed adjacent to each other. I would recommend investing in a couple of spa lounge chairs, would be so much more sanitary and comfortable! Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely come back again. read more

I've been here once for a massage and, of course, to use the spa facilities. The massage was quite good (I don't remember the therapist's name). I had seen the photos on their web site and read all the reviews before I went but I was still a bit shocked at how small the place is. There is a hot tub, a steam room, a sauna, cold shower, and shower area all sort of crammed into one area and that's it. Oh and the toilet is separated from the shower by a curtain, which is not really the ideal situation. The "locker room" is pretty much a small area next to the lockers. There is a cabinet serving as a partial dividing wall and the relaxation area (which fits two people) is on the other side of that, so you can see the women laying down there. I'm not sure I'd make use of that space because it's got to be distracting when people come in to change and stuff, and it's really small. Once you get over the shock of the size of the place, it's pretty good. The place is kind of dark (basement, no windows) but clean. They really reinforce the quiet policy so I think that's a great excuse to go there sans friends and have some alone time to relax and not chat. Price is right and people there were generally nice. Kinda wish there were something in between the size/price of Olympus and this place. A bigger place in the $12 - $20 range would be awesome. As an FYI, in Canada our public funds go to community aquatic centers that usually have 1-3 pools (baby pool, recreational pool, lap pool), hot tub, steam room, sauna, and gym/weightroom. My girlfriend bought me a punchcard for my birthday and this has become my favorite place in the world to go for date night! It's clean, welcoming, clean, quiet, and did I mention clean?! The grout on the jacuzzi looks brand new. I've never seen the towels in the rest area askew or cups lying around. In addition to the wonderful, wonderful jacuzzi they have a steam room, a dry sauna and a cold shower along with a room to lie down and relax, with soft music playing throughout. They have a "whisper only" policy that they take very seriously, and it makes the whole experience very meditative. They also offer hot showers with wonderful cedar scented (or unscented!) soap, which anyone can use for much less than the price for the whole spa, a much-needed service in any big city. This is a place that really cares about the community. Anyone can see the negative review left by a woman angry that she had her experience "ruined" by seeing a transgender woman using the facilities- and the prompt, professional response from staff. Their response was what sealed the deal for me and made this place my regular spa. read more

Yes, this is a lengthy post, but a girl's gotta vent. Yesterday I did what all girls should do on a day when you need an escape from the troubles in your life. ...I took a trip to the spa. Calgon's got nothin' on relaxing soak in the tub and a good sweat. Naturally, I went to Hot House. I covered my bedhead with a hat, covered my puffy eyes with shades and walked through the door wielding four dollar bills, desperate for quarters to fill the meter. Turns out I forgot my debit card on the day from hell. Figures. I'm greeted, say hello and request quarters for the meter. The reply is "Are you getting a spa today?" Yes, I reply. Next I'm told that the quarters are not for customers, but for the LAUNDRY. Yes. Apparently dirty towels take precedence over paying customers in this joint. I glance down and notice one and half rolls of quarters in her drawer, approximately $15 worth of quarters. First of all, do you think I really wandered in off the street and down this flight of stairs if wasn't getting a spa that day? And secondly, are you really going to send a paying customer back out on the street to FIND them when they are right there in your hand? What are the chances that that customer is going to come back at all? Then she has the nerve to say "I think the meter outside takes dollar bills." REALLY? Do you think I'm new? If you were new to the city, fine. Maybe you'd buy that line. But since she works at a spa on the hill, I presume that she walks by at least a dozen of these meters each day, even if she's never driven a day in her life. On any other day I would have not come back. But this was an extraordinary day that demanded that I get my spa. I got the f***cking meter handled, and I returned. The next installment of my visit went as planned. As I exited the steam room, I notice Miss Hipster checking the chemicals in the hot tub, and all my stress returns as I'm reminded of the incident. I ask myself if I should speak up. I decide it's warranted. No one else is around, so it seems appropriate. I explain that her conduct bothered me, I get the apology with the "I didn't mean to be rude" follow up, but her delivery was anything but genuine. Regardless, I'm satisfied that I've done the right thing for both of us. I didn't ask to speak to a manager, and I felt better for saying my piece. But it's not over. I lay down in the changing area, where they have some pads laid out to cool off and chill. This area is separated from the reception area by only a curtain. Throughout the spa, there are several signs posting, "Please whisper". Apparently this rule only applies to the clientele. Miss Hipster has a very distinctive voice. For the next five minutes I get to endure conversations with her coworker about this boyfriend, and that boyfriend, and how "she drank too much whiskey last night". Nice. I could go on and on critiquing the level of customer service, and lack of respect and courtesy that I received on this visit, but you get the idea. Bottom line - I went to the spa to relax. I left more pissed off than when I got there. Awesome. A side note to Miss Hipster - I can only hope that if I do have the privilege of seeing you again, you'll be chucking Jim Beam all over your trendy new outfit from Urban in front of whatever bar you and your scumbag boyfriends hang out at. The handful of times I've visited Hothouse I've had an okay time. I love the dimmed lights and quiet atmosphere (when I'm alone). I can't go with a friend b/c I get hushed which is a bummer, but I suppose I understand. I also love that it's women-only and bathing suits are optional. The reason I'm giving them only two stars is because THEY DO NOT HAVE A COLD PLUNGE. It really bothers me that they advertise having one on their website *and* on their sign outside when all they have is a cold, leaky shower. Shower does not equal plunge, ladies. You can't really get the benefits of contrast hydrotherapy (one of the main reasons I go to spas) with just a cold shower unless you want to stand under the shower for several minutes and risk catching a chill. I'll take a 30 second plunge over a 3 minute shower any day, and for this reason I tend to focus my spa choices elsewhere. Obviously, cold plunging is really important to me. It happens when you're in med school studying to become naturopathic doctor. False advertising also really gets to me, and I hope that HH can get it together and own up to what they (don't) have. read more

I love you Hothouse, I really do. Pros: + Female only and nude. There is something so relaxing about being surrounded by women, having no male presence and being in the buff. In my experience it greatly adds to relaxation + Hot tub is heated perfectly, wet/dry saunas are hot and intense/cold plunge shower is also at the perfect temperature. In between rotations you have access to two showers with scented and unscented soaps + Everything feels very clean. Amenities like flavored water are available near the lockers, you don't need to bring your own lock. They also have a resting area but I did not use it + Staff was very friendly and gave me a tour of the facilities and made me feel very comfortable + Pricing is very fair, $20 for admission. They also offer a punch card which can be a great gift + The facility is very small. I would recommend going during the "off-hours" for maximum relaxation, their were about 5-7 women and that was a good amount, any more than that would start to feel crowded + They do offer massage services as well Pro Tips: + Parking is a nightmare in this area, take public transportation + Bring two towels, one to sit down on in the various saunas, and one to dry off with at the very end + This spa is not good for large groups, as soft voices are emphasized here. It really adds to the total relaxation when things are silent + Stay hyper-hydrated Overall, I am so happy that HotHouse exists, and if you need any sort of relaxation or pain relief, this is your place. read more

I still managed to have a good time with my friend on my third trip here yesterday, but it wasn't thanks to the people working. I'll take that back. The girl that was working when we first arrived was reasonably friendly and welcoming. It was the punk chick working at the desk after we'd been there a couple of hours who was aloof and defensive. While I was in my massage, my towels were taken. No big deal, it was my fault for leaving them sitting out in the public area. But when I asked for a new towel, quickly explaining that I would be happy to pay, the girl still got all defensive, saying "I didn't take your towels, blah blah". I don't care if you did or didn't, I just want to purchase another one. Is that okay? Maybe I was just feeling cranky at this point. I'd just gotten out of my massage. The lady who worked on me, Kelly, told me at some point during the massage that she was working 70 hours a week, and boy did it end up showing on my back. She got into deep tissue work before I was ready, clearly, because today I feel like I threw out my back, despite having taken a bunch of Advil. I had to stop her a couple of times, it was so painful. It wasn't just me. I splurged on massage for myself AND a friend, and she was in baaad shape when she left. She actually hurt in places where she hadn't felt any pain. We'd planned on continuing to hang out that night, but it cut the experience short. I can barely type this now, but my need to warn others is outweighing my pain. Careful who you get your massage from. What an expensive session of pain. It is too small and having 5 people seems crowded and defeats the purpose of having a relaxing day when you have to navigate where to go next and whether there is even room. I think staying 2 hours was my limit and I was bored out of my mind. There is an area to lie down and read or whatever but it was carpeted and plastic mats with towels were there but were already cold, wet and slippery from the last person who used it. You have 4 things to do, sit in the whirlpool, dry sauna, wet sauna and relaxation room. This is normally fine for me at Olypus but I did not like the size- it felt overcrowded. I love the intimately small space of this women-only spa. The cold plunge shower is a nice touch for when you've been sitting in the sauna or steam room too long, and the hot tub is nice and big, plenty of room for a dozen or so women to relax in without getting too friendly. The lavender-and-eucalyptus-infused steam is by far my favorite part, and the fact that they provided lime slices for your drinking water. And let's not forget their late hours! Open 'til 12midnight? Yes, please! Just remember: the last entry is 11pm, to give their guests time to relax before they close for the night. If you are nearby and able, you owe yourself a trip to this place. Nudity encouraged, but not required. I suggest bringing your own water bottle to fill up, and your own towels. If you forget one or both, they provide drinking glasses, and charge a very nominal fee for towels. read more

I love this place, what a sanctuary. One of the only quiet (usually) places in capitol hill, and conveniently located. I love that it's a safe space to be comfortable in your own body and just enjoy soaking in a hot tub, or my favorite, sitting in the steam room. Steam room: I noticed that the steam room really deceased my anxiety levels as well as improved my complexion. People: Everyone here is very nice, especially the staff, and I wish I had found/tried this place sooner. Most people wander around in the nude, and no one is awkward or uncomfortable about it really. I think it's a great thing for being more comfortable in your own skin. No one will treat you funny if you feel more comfortable in a swimsuit, though. Pros: Location, safety (entrance hard to find, front door kept locked), sense of calm, people, availability of massages, stocked bathroom (wide tooth comb, tampons, shampoo, etc.), usually not too busy and usually very quiet. Few downsides and things I would like to see changed: Towels cost extra ($1) and they're white on both sides so you lose track of which side is the cleaner one to be sitting on, the cold plunge is more of a shower, and you can do the same thing in the regular shower. The relaxation area gets cramped at times, and can really only comfortably seat two. The steam room can get crowded if there are more than a few people (uncommon). The music is a bit too modern sometimes for my liking, I prefer the relaxing yoga-like music for relaxation. I also think noise control could have been a lot better during my last visit, where it was overwhelmingly loud due to 2 groups of friends visiting, however the front desk apologized and did their best to make it better. In their defense that was a really odd situation and not normal for this place Massages here: I've had massages from two different therapists, both were great and by experienced massage therapists. The flexibility in timing for massages is great, with massages offered late until the evening, and hothouse was able to get me into a massage with short notice both times. I've had quite a few massages, and I'd say both were very good but not the deep deep pressure I had hoped for and tried to describe to them, however both were incredibly relaxing and helped to relieve a lot of my muscle tension. I heart the hothouse! Yes, it's tiny, but I've never had a problem getting in, or it feeling over crowded. Plus, it's extremely affordable - the Olympus Spa is great - but this gal can't swing $35 every time she wants to get her sweat on, and driving to Lynnwood is always a drag. So in comes Hothouse, my happy Capitol Hill alternative It's cash only, but I always end up buying the punch card, anyway. 10 visits for $100. You get $2 off per visit, a towel, locker lock, and you don't have to remember to dash to an ATM for cash ( I do always manage to have a few $ in the wallet for tip) Love, love, love the steam room! It was great before, but they recently remodeled, and now instead of the uncomfy plastic benches they have fully tiled it in - so I can sweat in faux Turkish bliss. I try to go at least once a week - it's always worth it - and I leave feeling refreshed, shiny, and smelling like lavender and their Nag Champa incense. What a lovely secret tucked away on Cap Hill! Quiet, modest tucked away. Ok Ok parking is notr so easy to find, but its Cap Hill. Take a bus or find parking 23 blocks away. For me, this is NOT the spa of my dreams though I know others that love it. My little wimpy body can only take a bit of heat and they only have one water pool and it is too hot for me. And of course the steam and sauna are too hot too! Duh. They are supposed to be, of course. This place just doesn't offer me options that work for me. The ambiance is ok. Though one friend said, "It is kind of basementy." Which is true. Service has always been fine. I really dislike though that the toilet has a shower curtain as a door (which leads to the shower.) Bleh! I want my privacy when I pee! I'll only come here as a gift to my gf. I would MUCH rather trek up to Olympus in Lynnwood. read more
