Cuts all over my face from the Dermaflash treatment
    Taylor H.

DESTROYED MY SKIN. Received a gift card to the spa, so I used to it get a facial and dermaflash hair removal treatment. DON'T GO HERE... During the dermaflash treatment, I felt discomfort a few times and then felt actual cuts on my face about twice, two of them leaving blood dripping down my face and neck which I could feel. It seems like the esthetician was not properly trained, since after doing further research you should NOT be getting cut while getting a dermaflash/dermaplaning treatment. It's also very odd that she didn't address the cuts, blood, or anything during or after the treatment. I proceeded to contact management, who gave me a refund only after me calling her and emailing her twice to follow up, and she was not very apologetic at all. I hope they're switching out their blades and not causing other guests to bleed....Reporting the spa to the state board.

Small sauna in the women's locker room

Another Groupon adventure... Purchased the "Perfect Pair" package: -50-min Swedish couples massage with extra leg treatment -2 cocktails and dessert from BOKA (restaurant in the lobby) What also comes with a spa experience: -complimentary champagne -access to the sauna -access to the hotel gym Bonus perks: -small box of chocolates for our anniversary celebration -fantastic service by all the spa staff from the front desk to the masseuses Note - they automatically charge 20% gratuity but you can charge it. I wish the common/lounge areas and locker/bathroom areas were bigger (other spas have jacuzzis or steam rooms), but the overall experience was wonderful!

    Relaxation room with soak
    Chenda N.

Lovely massage with foot soak (champagne included). Small salon with quaint environment and good service. Locker room has only one shower and toilet. Minimal toiletries.Only downside is the operational aspect, needs lots of attention and care. manager quit after 1 week and they forgot my appointment and when they rescheduled, made the wrong appt.

My first impression of the facility was that it was clean and reminded me a little of Scandinavian style with light wood finishes and simple, classy design. There was a cozy place with chairs and a couch and a fireplace to lounge in, with turmeric ginger tea, strawberry water, regular water, and a few snacks (I didn't have any, I think it was nuts and dried fruit?). The locker room was spacious with a sauna, two huge showers, two toilets, and a changing area with lockers. some toiletries were provided as well. I appreciated that the lockers had a keypad so I didn't have to carry around a key. You can change in the changing area, but if you want more privacy, you are encouraged to go behind the door of the shower, where there's plenty of room to change. The sauna was nice and hot. Loved it. We both opted for the Om package which included a facial and a massage with one enhancement of choice. I have to say, the massage tables here are the most comfortable ones I've ever experienced. They are heated for your comfort, although they can turn off the heat if you run hot. My massage with Allison was lovely and super relaxing. Afterwards, I was brought back to the lounge area where I met up with my friend again and waited for my facial. The aesthetician, Kat, immediately gave off warm and friendly vibes, and I knew right away that she was going to be great. Her recommendations were spot on and her technique was fantastic. Again, so relaxing and I wish I didn't have to leave. Hands down the best facial I have ever experienced. We were allowed to check in an hour prior to our appointments and stay as long as we wanted it afterwards We ended up staying and talking for a couple more hours and enjoying the atmosphere. Every single person we encountered was kind, helpful, and seemed happy to be there. They have product recommendations at the end, but no hard upsell which I appreciated. I will 100% return. My friend and I both loved every minute of our day today.

I hate this place and I hope they are forced to close someday The employees are catty women that should have no business in wellness and I hope this business never gets to scam other people in the same way that it ruined my birthday

I specifically asked the receptionist whether there were female staff members because I was already feeling uneasy. I was told that the person doing my body scrub and the massage staff were female, but throughout the facility the only employees I physically saw were men, which added to my discomfort. I was also required to hand over a personal item of value before beginning the experience. That immediately raised concerns for me, as it did not make me feel secure or comfortable entering the facility. What I initially wanted was simply a tour or walkthrough of the facility before fully participating, but I was informed that I was required to shower and prepare before even being allowed to see the spa area itself. At that point, my discomfort and intuition were strong enough that I no longer felt safe proceeding. The environment did not feel welcoming or secure to me, and I decided not to continue with the services. If motel 6 was a spa I'd be this

The "lap pool" was 84 degrees which is way too warm for actual lap swimming. The locker situation was also frustrating. Day pass guests can only use lockers on the pool deck, not in the locker room, which defeats the purpose if you come prepared with clothes to change into after showering -- there's nowhere secure or convenient to store your belongings inside the locker room itself. On top of that, the locker room wasn't very clean and robes weren't provided. The pool area is open to all hotel guests, including kids, so it never felt calm or spa-like. Between the crowd, temperature of the pool, and limited amenities, it didn't match the spa experience that was advertised. I frequent hotel spas, and this was one of the most disappointing given the price. It would feel more appropriate at about half the cost, especially since parking isn't validated for day pass guests.

I'm afraid that's not why I'm leaving a review. I'm leaving a review because I've never left a massage feeling less relaxed than when I arrived. It wasn't anything I could ask my provider to adjust, like pressure level, it was just very poorly executed, awkward, and uncomfortable. This was a $325 massage and I would hope the therapists are trained well enough to keep their nails from interfering with the therapy and send you home feeling better than when you arrived. This was my second time visiting and both occasions were similar. Different therapist each time. I'm also disappointed by the owner's responses on reviews here where accusations are made regarding the truthfulness of reported experiences. My sale ID from my receipt is 470227. Penelope is a mismatch for its location. I wish it weren't! What a great opportunity Penelope has here. I'm afraid they should let someone else with more experience operate the space and relocate to somewhere along Aurora where they don't need pesky things like certifications, training, credentials, and amenities. Edit: I received an email response where the business chose to double down on the same type of feedback they provide to others on Yelp. Very dismissive. When all you can do is point a customer to your website as if that resolves issues, I don't know how you continue to attract new customers. Dropped the rating from 2 stars down to 1 star for that reason. !!! 2ND UPDATE: Hoist by their own petard I suppose! They sent a multi-page email threatening me with "defamation, business disparagement, and tortious interference" if I did not take down my review. They scrutinized my booking history (debating whether this was my first or second visit, as my previous visit was booked under my partner's name) and even admitted to digging through my Yelp history to criticize my other reviews. Does this seem like a good response to negative feedback to you? There are other spas at hotels in downtown Seattle, I'll certainly be visiting one of those next time and I recommend you do the same if you don't want to be threatened with legal action if you don't enjoy your massage.

Arriving early is a plus to use the washroom or relax in their lounge area with snacks (wasabi peas, banana chips, and honey pretzel sticks) and hot tea. Shoutout to Jessica and Emma for our massages. They were extremely comforting and the hour flew by insanely quick. Hydrotherapy is self guided between a hot pool, cool pool, steam room, and dry sauna. All are soothing but many gyms have these as well, so I'm torn whether it's worth it. However, definitely a nice supplement to other services here in the same location, which is a fair argument. One thing I hate is the check out process. After checking out, they'll ask if "you'd like to add a gratuity" which I always feel is just a darker practice in the social moment. A good massage deserves a tip for quality service, but hydrotherapy feels like an interesting gray area. However, it's easier to just give a percentage on the total amount. On the flip side, I love how they also provide up to 30 minutes buffer after hydrotherapy (maybe also other services, but we ended on hydro) to shower and leave. Passing that half hour mark would result in a charge rounded up to the next hour.
