By far my favorite Thai restaurant, can't go wrong with any of the main entrees! I personally love the Chicken Phathapow with chicken breast. Tip is to indicate the spice level you get, I usually get between a 2-4, and that gets pretty wild. My girlfriend always gets the Seafood Pho. Its the perfect amount of seafood and noodles, nothing overbearing. The Chicken Satay, on the other hand, is often dried out and overcooked. The drinks, though, are always on point. The Thai tea and the Coconut drink are a must have. The Coconut drink has pieces of young coconut in it as well. I am here everytime I am in Merced. Hands down, must go to. Every time I go to Merced, this is my go to place for Pad Thai! I am not too sure if the Bay Area has better Pad Thai because I'm scared to get disappointed. However, compared to Thai cuisine 2, this is a better option. The portions are huge and the price is more affordable. It's a cute little mom and pop shop that has so much flavor. Upon entering the restaurant the girls up front​​ were very friendly and attentive​ to all guest and me. I had ordered a pad see ew with chicken and I would give it an okay. The vegetables were fresh as I could test freshness in the vegetables but the chicken was very chewy and did not taste like fresh-cooked​ chicken. If I'm ever craving Thai food, this is my go to. Their servings are big and their prices aren't high. I usually get their chicken pad thai, which is never too dry or too soggy. I've had their yellow curry with chicken as well. What I don't like about ordering curry here is that rice is extra, the order is for the curry itself. Their servers tend to go on their phones a lot when no one is requesting for anything. This place is very homey since it's small. Unbelievably unfair portion sizes. I pay for a medium pho and I get the size of a small. I pay for a large size and I still get a medium size pho. Loved the noodles - which surprised me. No fresh jalapeño but they do have jalapeños in a jar which was new to me. Chili sauce - I would do a scope and a half with seed for the right level of heat. Ok. Straight up. Food arrived, I ordered papaya salad, pad Thai, and fried bananas dessert. I kid you not, upon opening the papaya salad, I almost vomited due to the atrociously foul smell. Literally, I was gagging and on the verge of throwing up it was so pungent. I'm still gagging just thinking about it. I threw it in the trash double bagged to try and mask the smell. It was ROTTEN!!!!! I also threw away the bananas dessert without eating, they were stiff and old, and in a puddle of what is used to be ice cream until someone decided to put it on top of hot food items. Seriously so disappointing after paying $40. Only thing edible was the Pad Thai. This is up there with some of the worst food experiences ever. This place is great. I frequent it at least once a week. Their spice levels are intense. 1-10, 5 and above is expert Thai level (we are not worthy). The larb is awesome, they have colored pictures on the wall if you need help. But trust me, everything is excellent. Small place, gets busy at lunch time, so try to get their early to beat the rush. read more

I don't often gives too much credit to places here in Merced, but I must say, that after eating at Houa Khong 2 a couple times, they are truly the bee's knees. The first time I went there, I had a dish that was similar to Pad Ka Prow, and though the portion wasn't as large as I would have liked, it was very well cooked and tasted wonderful. Today, I got to try their yellow curry lunch special, and let me tell you -it is one of the most delicious curry dishes I have had in my life. The atmosphere is casual, and they keep the establishment very clean. The waitresses are attentive, and the owner is friendly and offers all of his culinary wisdom if you need help picking out a menu item. Four stars instead of five because of a slight order mix-up during my first visit and prices could be a tad lower. We are in Merced, after all. read more

Pretty decent place for Merced. Highly recommend the pad thai. They give you a butt load of pad thai and I always have left overs (something every college student should look for in a restaurant). Their pho is also pretty yummy but I would say it is a bit salty. Still yum though. My boss got food poisoning here. Have tried this place twice now since they opened. Was pleased both times. The pho broth is very tasty, making the bowl a great meal to have. Had the lunch special sweet and sour chicken and it was very fresh and good flavor. The wait staff have been very friendly and helpful in explaining their menu items. Yes! I have been here three times already. Twice by myself for lunch, and once with one of my besties... The staff is so nice. I always see the owner there, which is good. He is very nice and always says hello and engages the regular customers as well as the new... good customer service here. Smells good, always clean. I love this place because I love the original restaurant, but I'm sad because I never see the other people I would see over there lol. What impresses me is that the quality of service is just like the first restaurant, the place is very quiet, the staff is nice, and the food is good. The last time I went, my food came out really quick, and I was like WOW, that was fast! I recommend Pad See Ew (combination, with Chicken). And of course, Thai Iced Tea. That set the meal off. I was so full after I left... If you go with another person, I suggest ordering a noodle dish (Pad Thai or Pad See Ew), and Yum Nua, with sticky rice. A lot of people just know about Pad Thai, but not Pad See Ew... try it! The curry wasn't strong, but when I had pineapple in the bite, it tasted really good. The serving size in general was good. My friend tried their 'Pad Thai' and he said the meat tasted like it was from frozen. We believe from the price point, it was good. We had asked if they did a student discount and they do! It is 10% off! So ask! Overall, it was a decent meal, but I may just be spoiled from other Thai restaurants from around the area, since there are plenty. Definitely give it a try though.
