The food is good and consistent. Staff could be friendlier. They open at 10:30. We waited outside for 10 minutes for them to open at 10:40. When she unlocked the door I asked if they did open at 10:30? Her disgruntled response was not welcoming, not accountable, nor friendly. This restaurant has been one of our favorite spots for a couple of months and we always had a pleasant experience,but on this occasion we didn't get the best service seemed a bit understaffed because it took longer and their drink machine was down - it happens - but should've been prepped. We got our usual appetizer of spring rolls and they came with this cute heart shaped sauce that we both loved. As for the main course we both decided on new items one was the Pineapple fried rice and the chow mein. The chow mein could've used more seasoning, it was very bland, however, the fried rice did not disappoint. If our service was nicer and fast we definitely would've given a full 5 star review. Ate here on a late Monday night, there business hours said they closed at 830 but when we got there at roughly 730 we were told they were closing at 8 so we had to hurry up and order. Was a little taken back but didn't really have too much of an issue with that since I already look at the menu or places before go, so we had a good idea of what we wanted already. We got the Pad Se Ew combo noodles, Combo Thai fried rice, and Shrimp in a blanket. Everything came out nice and fresh and the portions were enough to share with another person. It was also nice that for the noodles they don't put spice in it already, they have sauces on the table for you to make it how ever spicy you want. Everything tasted great! Me and my fiancé whenever we crave Thai food we head to Coconut cafe after a good workout at the local gym. Service is quick ambience is moody (in a good way!) and very intimate. Love it here we can't wait to dine in person and try more options. We tend to get the chicken pad Thai and chicken satay skewers. Love the pad Thai because it's not real heavy it's light and keeps us full we can't wait split this and still have leftovers for lunch. 5/5 can't wait to come in and dine and expand our taste buds read more

Hey Coconut You one of the first restaurants I went to in Merced that I actually enjoyed. Yeah food diversity and quality in Merced isn't too great I'll admit that. But I really enjoyed your curry esp your duck curry. Several other dishes were good too. It's a long restaurant in shape so little awkward but great if ur looking for some privacy. There is one corner for larger groups tho. Thai and Mexican food rule Merced and you are part of that for sure even tho you are tucked away in the middle of nowhere Glad you are still doing well. read more

Came here for a late lunch and left feeling so Thai-food satisfied! The SO and I were in Merced for the day and ended up coming to Coconut Cafe about 45 minutes before they closed for siesta. We were seated immediately in a small booth. The inside looked like it was getting ready to turn down for their hour break between lunch and dinner (lights off, only natural light peeking through). There's a very cute flower wall for the aesthetic, but mostly it is very industrial with exposed ceilings and some really cool-looking steampunk-esque sconces dotting the walls. We ordered: Thai coffee - great pick-me-up; creamy and caffeinated as it should be Mango slush - tasted like artificial mango (per the SO) like powdery, we would probably skip this one next time Chicken satay - comes with 4 skewers and peanut sauce - pretty basic Chicken chow mein - SO said this tasted great Priew wahn with chicken - very saucy, would probably order this with a different protein next time Pad thai with chicken - SO loved the taste of this one and wished he had ordered this for himself. I loved the huge portion and that I could add my own amount of spice to it using the spices available at our booth. Roasted duck red curry - super flavorful and had plenty of fatty duck pieces. Best Thai food in Merced! The fried rice was delicious I got it with level 7 spice and it had a nice kick to it. If you like spice make sure to try the chili oil on the table. The spring rolls were also fresh and a good start to the meal. read more

I am a visitor to Merced. The first time I went to this restaurant two and half year ago. I feel it is the best Thai food I have been to. The pepper salt shrimp was so good and crispy. I visited this restaurant before while visiting Merced, previously I tried their curry which was pretty good, This time around, I decided to go for their BBQ chicken, which the menu described w/ side of rice and "side salad". To say the least , I was quite disappointed. (Side salad was literally a slice of cucumber cut into 4 pieces) The chicken was not seasoned and to make things worse it tasted as it had just came right out of the fridge, and quickly heated up. The quality of food here is top notch! Located at the corner of Highway 59 and Buena Vista, this restaurant might be a little weird to get to for your first time. However, there's plenty of parking available and the restaurant is a long row of booths and comfy seating. My mom loves the pho broth here because it isn't overly salty like some of the other local restaurants, and it doesn't make you feel bloated. There's also a lot of protein served with the noodles. My usual go-to dishes are the Green Curry and Yum Neau (Beef Salad). Both are absolutely delicious and I'd recommend the green curry if you want something heavier and savory, and the beef salad if you want something light and crisp. Additionally, this is the only Thai restaurant in Merced to offer crispy pork belly! It's absolutely delicious and the dipping sauce works so well with the fatty taste of the pork. It's the one dish I HAVE to order every time I eat here. The only thing preventing this place from getting 5-stars from me is that the kitchen is sometimes a little slow to get food out. The servers are attentive but it's not their job to get the food cooked faster. I think if the restaurant nails that down and gets the flow in the kitchen to be a bit smoother and quicker, then they'd have a top spot among the many Thai restaurants in Merced! read more

Second time I ordered the Pork Pad Thai. Holy, the flavor is so RICH, I can taste the sweetness of the peanut butter however it is not overdone like the other pad Thai I've tasted before. It's simply a noticeable hint to add on top of the other flavors that's present in the dish. The noodle is soft and juicy, the flavor is rich from start to finish, the meat is tender and the texture of the meat compliments the noodles. Both meals are 4.5/5 easily if not 5/5. It was my birthday dinner. It was SO good. Party of 5. We had spring rolls for appetizer. I ordered the duck curry, 2 orders of pork pad tai. (1 to go) pork fried rice and chicken wings and a big bowl of pho. Not sure which one but everybody enjoyed their food. The duck curry was awesome, such good flavor. My mouth and tummy are happy! I usually order pork belly to go, it's always good but never sat down with family or tried other dishes. Our waitress was great, friendly, explained a few menu items for us. My husband and I looove coming here when we are craving delicious Thai food. Their food is flavored and seasoned SO well. We always order the Tom Kha chicken, pad wood sen pork and some type of curry. My favorite is the Panang curry chicken but we have had the ka ree yellow curry and really recommend it. We have tried other foods and you really can't go wrong. Their Thai teas are delish! An amazing treat to pair with our already delicious dinner. I ordered one large fried pork belly tray by phone 4 weeks prior. They forgot my order so I waited 40 minutes. When I received my order, they added more fried pork belly to accommodate for my wait time which was great customer service. The restaurant seemed somewhat new.
