We live near the restaurant and have been a couple times as eat in guests and also have done take out a few times. We've given the place a lot of chances. The fish tacos are ok, but the fish does taste fishy. I used to like the buffalo chicken salad but the last couple of times I've gotten really tough meat. Our last take out order was the worst. We got chicken lettuce wraps that included lettuce with visible clumps of dirt between the leaves. While eating the chicken mixture I chomped into a bone. The BBQ chicken flatbread was super dry and we had to add a lot of extra BBQ sauce. We ordered chicken avocado egg rolls but ended up with avocado toast. The toast was ok, just bread topped with guacamole and a hunk of mozzarella. No good. read more

I'm staying in the Holiday Inn attached to Houlihans. I ate dinner there last night and breakast this am. Never again. The food was fine although I expected better based on reviews here. My big problem was the poor service. Once seated for dinner I told my server I was parched and requested iced tea and also a water. She took forever to get this to me. I was in late so it was not very busy. I had the ribs and they were tasty. Once I was done I asked for my bill. I received it and I placed my credit card in the holder. I then waited and waited and waited. I finally got the attention of the bartender who came over telling me my server was making a room service run. Really. This am for breakfast I asked for Iced tea. This was an hour after they opened. No tea. I would have to wait for it to be brewed. I have never had a restaurant not have iced tea available for breakfast. I told my server I needed a minute to decide what I wanted. After about 10 minutes of waiting the manager saw me looking at her. She made some excuse on what happened to my server. She took my order. Once I received it I never saw her or my server again, I nursed the water when it was apparent I was on my own. I was done for a while and had to wait for the manager to bring me my bill. I always tip well for decent or good service. Both bills here saw small tips. I will need to stay at this hotel in the future but I don't see me eating here ever again. read more

I really enjoy the food at Houlihans - granted I get pretty much the same thing every time, and every time it is pretty much perfect: the steak. It looks pricey on menu but it also comes with a soup or salad (get the Tuscan bean salad) and two sides (I like asparagus, green beans, baked potato). Service is usually solid and I've never had a reason to not come back here. One disappointing point unrelated to the food: I sign up for Houlihan's emails (you get a free entree on your birthday, so do it), and this is the only Houlihans I've been to that doesn't send coupons during the year on occasion. read more

I like Houlihan's, but I wish they were open later. The staff is very friendly, the food is excellent. I particularly enjoy the Thai lime wings and the ahi tuna appetizers. A little out of the way unless you happen to be staying at the Holiday Inn or finishing up a round of golf next door. I wish there was a larger selection of beers on tap, but otherwise I really enjoy the times I find myself at Houlihan's. read more

We eat at this location a few times a year, whenever we are in town for business and staying at the Holiday Inn. They remodeled a few years ago and the decor is still fresh and clean. The staff has always been warm and friendly and our server, who we had last time, remembered us. The new drink and food menus are full of yummy twists on some classic dishes and there are a few creative new dishes to try. We started with the spicy chicken and avocado rolls. This spin on fried egg rolls didn't disappoint. They were awesome. My co-worker had a trio of roast beef sliders and said she really enjoyed them, too. I had the new steak wedge salad. The only suggest I have is that they should thinly slice the 5oz of meat. They serve it as a whole filet. For dessert we had the espresso chocolate cake. It was just OK. Neither of us are fans of cake that is stored in the walk-in. The cold cake didn't work for us. We each tried one of the new drinks. Mine was the mini martini bar. A flight is three creative martinis. I thought this was the highlight of the meal. There aren't too many good options in Front Royal for dinner. This is our go to especially since it is attached to the hotel. We will be back, in a few weeks! read more

Worn out from our trip we opted for the adjoining restaurant to our hotel. The decor was certainly dated and hasn't been touched since Seinfeld was on the air. Very few patrons. The beer selection was fair but had a local craft beer available. Service was spotty with little interest shown in their current position. Bracing for the worst I was pleasantly surprised by my fish 'n chips which was lightly coated and quick fried as were the fries. The white fish was a true filet, flaky and tasty. Encouraged by this we returned for breakfast which was well made however the smoked bacon was crispy and the best I've had since wandering through the Tennessee mountains. While shortcomings were evident you certainly can't fault the kitchen. read more

I have been here a couple times and each time has been a good! The service at the bar was great, drinks were good, and the wings and nachos are tasty as well. The restaurant is clean. The staff is ok. We went on a Saturday night. The food was really bad. I'm not sure where to start. The almond crusted tilapia was over cooked with way too much butter sauce. My son's Mac and cheese came almost cold and was cooked with imitation cheese. The mashed potatoes were awful. My wife's mushroom enchilada came with bland rice and over cooked beans. The fried calamari was way too breaded, and was over fried. The high chairs are too small for toddlers, and smaller booths don't have room for booster seats. My wife and I dine here about once a week. The menu is extensive and the food is very good, portions ample. I generally order the French onion soup and a filet mignon. The wife, being more adventuresome, tries different combinations on the menu. We are rarely disappointed. The steak is as good as any local steakhouse and at a lower price. The drinks are fine too - try a raspberry Long Island ice tea, it will knock your socks off. Service is generally fine with only an occasional lesser performance. read more

Love love love the food here. It was my first time to a Houlihan's and yes, I'm a fan! Everything on the menu was so enticing that I decided to split 3 appetizers and a dinner with my friend. You must try the firecracker shrimp! And the Scallop Lemon Risotto! Those scallops were on point. Chef's did a great job with every dish. Everything was very delicious and I found out it was housemade which is a BONUS in my book. Our bartender, Mique, was friendly, nice and engaging in conversation. What a great restaurant. My family and I were at the hotel that this restaurant is located and WOW what a great find. We had the Mustard Salmon and the NY Strip and the stuffed Mushrooms. All of the food was made from scratch as our server Tonia told us and it was wonderful. The drink choices were also great We had a martini flight and it was great. The restaurant was packed when we arrived around 8:30pm, and I can see why they were so busy. Wish that they would relocate to the Ashland area. I recently ate dinner there while staying at the hotel on business. I was impressed with the prices on the menu. I enjoyed a delicious cup of Potato Soup! I'm the only one at home that likes it so I never get a chance to have a cup. The Barrel Cut Filet was delicious! The food came out hot and seasoned well! My waitress was very kind and checked on me frequently! I'm going back there tomorrow on business again and look forward to a big bowl of potato soup! Wedding party guaranteed to have service till last call at midnight and then manager John told the mother & father of bride it wasn't his problem. Last call was given at 11 with no service to over half of the wedding party. Do not trust your wedding guest at Bowling Green Country Club to this place. It will sour an otherwise lovely wedding. We were so disappointed when we ate here last weekend. The salad was soggy as if it was made hour prior to serving, we also had chicken nachos, they were awful as most of the cheese compared to the nacho cheese at 7-11 stores with just a few sprinkles of real cheddar cheese on top, yuck! My husband had some wings and they were just as bad! We have always recommended Houlihan's to our friends, I hope they don't go now! This place has great tasting food and awesome staff from waitresses to chef and manager. We had dinner yesterday, breakfast this morning and lunch later. All three times the food was amazing. We ordered wine, Bruschetta, spinach salad and Tuscan white bean salad for dinner. Breakfast was waffle, garden omlette with skillet roasted potato, bread etc. And for lunch I tried Enchiladas. We loved what we ordered. It was exactly what we wanted. It has a nice bar too. The staff at this restaurant and the Holiday Inn hotel are awesome. During dinner the Manager came to check if we liked the food and after lunch the chef came out to thank me and wish me a good afternoon. The service was impressive. I will visit this place again. Always love the food here. Higher quality for the area. Normally this place is clean, except for today's visit. There is breakfast remnants under/near several tables. Not sure if they had a really busy breakfast but even after we are our lunch it was still there. I would have thought at least a manager would have noticed it since the employees cleaning the tables did not. Lastly, the bathroom was disgusting as well. Only able to rate the service as I never got to eat or drink. Walked in to the bar and sat down..... No bartender. 10 minutes later I realize she is sitting in a booth with some other customers and No one is getting service. She gets up, never says a word to me, gets a bottle of beer from the cooler and leaves. I got up looked for someone to see if I could get a table on the restaurant side and there was no host. Went to this place for dinner with my family when I was visiting Virginia. At first we waited to be seated for 20 minutes. Mind you there was about barely anyone in this restaurant. So finally we get seated, and the waitress she kept mumbling you couldn't quite understand what she was saying. But she took our orders and while writing down our orders she continued to dose off. I can't say I know for 100 percent she was on drugs but you don't dose off several times throughout taking our orders. I ordered a steak medium rare. Expected it to be great from hearing other people I know talk about this facility. But my steak came well done well beyond well done. It was burnt and my potatoes they weren't cooked thoroughly. I asked to speak to the manager who I was informed was too busy to speak..... I will never eat at one of these restaurants ever again. Stopped here for dinner after some canoeing on the river - our waitress lulu was incredible! She had such a friendly personality and made some great recommendations for our meals. She came back to check on us often and made sure we had everything we needed and even asked us our names. Food was great too I just wish we saved room for desert! I recently hosted a goodbye luncheon for 20 people at Houlihans. While the food was pretty standard fare for this type of chain restaurant, everyone seemed happy with their order. The real reason I'm writing this review is to commend the restaurant for their exceptionally good customer service. From making, then changing, the reservation, to set up (more people showed up than I originally planned), everyone involved was polite, accommodating and extremely professional. A big shout out to our server Carol. She was terrific. It's not easy to get 20 orders correct, the food served to the right person in a timely manner, then deal with the hassle of preparing, distributing and collecting on 20 separate checks. Carol did all this and more. I can't say enough good things about her and how professional she was. read more
