After months of driving by Houlihan's and writing it off as just another soulless chain, a special occasion afforded me the opportunity to try it and I was pleasantly surprised. Last time I was here, I found a long black string (from an apron?) under the precious leaves of my chicken Caesar salad. The manager was apathetic. I vowed never to return, but, alas, there are slim pickings for semi-healthy food in the Springfield, MO area (a place I frequent every other month or more on business), and I came back tonight. The salad was okay, but stuffed with way too many croutons and burned polenta. The service was abominable however. Completely neglected, never checked on me after Evan dropped my food off and, when I dared to ask for a drink refill (as he was jogging by the table), he asked if I "just wanted it to go." In general, I'm a fan of Houlihan's, particularly their martini flights. Unfortunately, this one wasn't up to par. They were very understaffed and very busy. (Our server was incredibly friendly and apologetic, though.) They were out of a lot of things, including bread. One moment of weirdness was being told they don't have pitchers (of beer), and then immediately after seeing a pitcher go by (of long island iced tea, but still). Loved that the place is connected to the hotel, but that's as far as I go. I am a HUGE Houlihan's fan. My wife and I dine at the Lee's Summit MO restaurant frequently. Always the best food and service. Springfield...not so much. The service was horrible. There were only a few other people in the restaurant. The waitress took our drink order (non alcoholic) and appetizer order. Drinks arrived after about five minutes, but that is the last we saw of her. After about 20 minutes someone else brought our apps. Then we sat for another 20 minutes. No refills, no taking the dinner order. Just a bunch of college aged servers standing behind the bar talking. When the server actually showed up I told her I was dissatisfied with her service. She began to lecture me on how a restaurant runs. I asked for our check and left. They need someone serious training and supervision. That being said, they probably figure since it was connected to the hotel, we are only visitors and they don't need to worry about making us "regulars". read more

We went to Houlihan's tonight. Last time it was great. This time was awful. Dinner was late. Waitress explained cook burned the stuffed chicken breast and was remaking it. Daughter ordered fried shrimp with mashed potatoes. Shrimp burnt. Mashed potatoes cold. Requested heated potatoes. Not edible. Received chicken finally that was over cooked. Potatoes cold and inedible for all three of us. Got free desert due to wait. Nothing for unappetizing meal. Waitress good. The problem was with the kitchen. When I spend $124 for a meal with tip, I expect more. Have to keep coming to Springfield bEcause daughter in college. Will think twice before returning to this restaurant when I have $124 to spend on a meal. Very very disappointed. read more

This is my first time I've gone to a Houlihan's and it was SO good. I was about to order a veggie burger and the waiter suggested the impossible burger instead and it was way better. If you are vegetarian, the impossible burger is the way to go. The service is great and the waiters are nice. read more

Went here as a suggestion from a local and waited overall probably 35 minutes from being seated to waiting on my order to waiting on my drink. It took so long that I wanted my food to go and it was the worst French dip I have ever had. Very bad au jus and the beef on the sandwich was worst than microwave Salisbury steak. We stopped at Houlihans while driving home to Illinois from Oklahoma. We had high expectations because we had heard it was very good. Unfortunately it wasn't what we had hoped for. My sandwich was very good, but my husband's left a lot to be desired. He ordered the chipotle chicken sandwich. His described it more as an overlooked piece of chicken on a bun. We had our toddler with us, which always makes dining out a little more difficult. We had to ask for a children's menu after sitting for about 15 minutes with our menus. Between ordering, waiting for food and eating, we were in the restaurant for well over an hour....that makes for a very fidgety toddler! My husband ordered the mini creme brûlées for dessert. We ordered one of each: regular, chocolate and butterscotch. Their creme brûlées were basically just cheap pudding with some fruit and stuff on top. Not very good! Sadly, it is not likely we will return to another Houlihans after this experience. We could have gone to Applebee's or Ruby Tuesday for a meal probably cheaper and maybe better! read more

Conveniently located a step away from my favorite hotel in town. Houlihan's is always on my checklist for the bar food menu and those tasty appetizers. Fish taco's with ahi tuna isn't on the menu but a few extra bucks and you are in business for a great bite. Disco fries is a sad twist on the poutine but brings an interesting flavor. read more

My husband had been there once before me, so he tried the buffalo salad, the fish tacos, and the chicken sandwich, and said all three items were really good too! First time eating here on a Saturday night; my wife and I were blown away. Place was very clean, organized, and classy. Wide variety and selection of tasty, unique food. We had the firecracker shrimp for appetizer (so delicious) I had the KC burger which was the most amazing mouthwatering burger I've ever had in my life, cooked to med rare perfection! My wife had the ahi tuna salad. Needless to say, we both cleaned our plates!! The service was UNTOUCHABLE! Our server, SHELBY, was very precise, attentive, and very very nice. She made us feel like her only guests although i could see she was very busy but she held her composure and made no mistakes. Atmosphere was lively and current. Restaurant was very clean. Our server, Lauren, was very welcoming and informative. She took the time to tell us what the specials were without us even having to ask. Lauren was extremely nice and very accommodating to the pace of our dining experience as we didn't want to order everything at once but simply enjoy our time and relax. Food was delicious and prices were reasonable for the experience we obtained. We are looking forward to coming back and hope that Lauren will still be there the next time we pass through. The glass used for a water had leftover food residue from the dishwasher not only on the outside but on the inside as well. I could literally scrape particles off the sides of the cup and it would float in my water. Taste wise the food was good, BUT it was not fresh and hot. This is actually one of the better Houlihans I've been to. It's certainly much better than the ones in St . Louis. The decor is up to date and the quality of the food is actually pretty good. I won't be back. I came here with two others after church and was extremely disappointed with the food. I had the quiche special with a bowl of baked potato soup. The food came quickly, but it was not good. The quiche was Lorraine and was very greasy. The flavor was completely overpowered by some herb that made the dish inedible. My soup had the consistency of lumpy pudding and tasted like some kind of awful gravy. One of my fellow diners had the sausage flatbread and was disappointed. It was flavorless and not hot. The other diner had a bowl of tomato bisque that was very, very salty. Appetizers and first round of drinks were fine. However, it went downhill from there. I ordered a second Cosmopolitan but it was almost pure cranberry juice. Good Cosmos are pink, not red. I asked our waitress to take the bad cosmos back and have the first bartender make me one just like the first. Back came a very red cranberry something. I gave it back to her without wasting time to taste it. My entree salad came out fine, but my wife was served the entirely wrong salad. The waitress shortly thereafter brought the correct salad. I had eaten at this Houlihan's before and was craving their fish tacos so I suggested to my friends to have lunch there. They all ordered soup and salads and for myself, fish tacos. They have the 15 minute guarantee. The waitress put the timer on the table but did not start it. My friend noticed she did not start the timer so she started it. The girls received their soup but the salads and my fish tacos arrived after the 15 minute deadline. When the waitress came with the food, she totally ignored the timer. It was very obvious she was avoiding it. When the bill came I was charged $9.95 instead of $8.95 as listed on the menu. Also, they must have changed the fish they use on the tacos. After our wedding we had all of our out of town guest who was staying at the doubletree all together for a little after party after our wedding. There was about 50-60 people in our party, and Houlihans did awesome job making everyone happy. They even stayed open late for us so we could keep on having a good time. I love this place. It's my favorite for business lunches. Food is always excellent and the service is impeccable, even downright impressive...it's what you want when you want a business lunch to go well. My favorite thing on the menu is the Grilled Salmon BLT...and I usually don't like salmon...get the grilled asparagus as a side instead of the fries! The salads are the best I've ever seen at a restaurant...all of them are good. The restaurant has a really classy atmosphere...very upscale without the upscale prices.
