I've been bringing my dogs here for years first my late dog, and now my current miniature schnauzer. If you look back at my previous review photos, you'll see the PERFECT schnauzer cut they used to do. Consistent. Professional. Distinguished little gentleman energy. Recently though, scheduling became nearly impossible. Every conversation sounded like: "Let me confirm if our groomer is actually working that day..." After weeks of trying to coordinate schedules, my schnauzer's hair got longer than ever. He loves wearing shirts, so yes, he had some matting. I paid extra for de-matting and gave very clear instructions: shave the skirt, but keep a full beard along with his chest and paws fluffy. Y'all... when I picked him up, I genuinely did not recognize my own dog. He walked in looking like a miniature schnauzer and walked out looking like a scrappy chihuahua named Peanut. They shaved EVERYTHING. His entire body, his face, even his whiskers. HIS WHISKERS. WTF. I know hair grows back and thankfully it's summer, but I honestly felt bad for him. As someone with longer hair myself, if somebody sat me down and buzzed me to the skin without warning, I'd probably need emotional support and a hoodie for a month. My dog still seems happy and unbothered, but I'm traumatized enough for both of us. After years of loyalty, this was incredibly disappointing and totally unacceptable. We will never come back..

From the first stay, I could tell they actually understand dogs, not just watch them. He came back relaxed, clean, and acting like himself, which says everything. The communication was solid, and I didn't have to chase anyone for updates. Place is clean, staff is friendly, and more importantly, they know what they're doing. I trust them with my dog, and that's not something I say lightly.

The office was very calm and clean compared to many other veterinary offices I've visited. The staff were professional, kind, and attentive. Carrie, the groomer, was amazing with my dog. I was told by a groomer at a different establishment that he would need to be sedated for his nails to be trimmed. Carrie was conservative with this news, and she decided to try other options first. She succeeded in trimming his nails with no medications or sedation! She has great energy and experience, and she was able to make my rescue dog with his anxious attachment style feel right at home. A miracle! My dog and I are now happy members of CHAH.

I have been a diehard fan of CHAH since I first got my dog as a puppy and brought her here in 2017…read more I recommended anyone who wanted a vet recommendation to go here because I thought the vets cared and I liked that it wasn't trying upsell like some vets I've experienced. Even when we've moved further from here where it was no longer convenient, I still tried very hard to convince my husband to keep going here. The Vet Techs and the front office staff have always been nothing short of an amazing. I have no complaints with how responsive and warm they've been. With that being said, it breaks my heart that I fear I will have to be looking for a new vet. My dog usually has bad anxiety at the vet and it's gotten terribly worse recently as she's gotten older. Instead of meeting it with patience and understanding, we got the opposite. As pawrents, we're not opposed to doing anything that would be in the best interest of our dog and some tact would have been appreciated. The bedside manners of our doctor recently has been disappointing considering we've gone to her many times in the past. What used to be a friendly bright greeting with our dog and helpful insight has now transitioned to being short with her answers and noticeably irritated. When seeking understanding of why she recommended a product over another for curiosity, we were met with "I just do and you can look at that on our website". We chalked it up to a bad day as the office was chaotic running behind with road closures, we get it. The nail on the coffin was when receiving the results over the phone on a different day, and I was met with nothing but passive answers. I was trying to seek understanding as to why my dogs results were abnormal as this was not the first time she's received similar results and I wanted to know if there was a concerning pattern. My mind was foggy as I was trying to recall the history on the spot of her visits and instead of "I'll look into that for you or have someone do that", it was met with "no, I don't know what you're talking about. if you don't want to take your dog to the vet for a follow up then thats your choice" kind of attitude. I felt like I was gaslit instead of talking to someone who wanted to be helpful. I would like to think that I wasn't being difficult and it no longer felt like a safe space to get any understanding of my dog's situation. Her solution was to send the lab results over and I could look at it myself. So now I have questions left unanswered and feeling like the one professional I should be talking to is too annoyed to answer.

My dogs are accustomed to being around, just our family and don't always be friend new people readily. They immediately took to the owner, Brian. Our dogs are on a diet where they have a mixture of dry and wet food that require refrigeration or freezing. That was no problem at all for the owner to accommodate. The fellas looked well cared for when my son picked them up! My son forgot to check for the dogs blankets when he picked them up and Brian kindly drove them down to the city where we live so that the dogs would have them. I will definitely use Hicks Farm again and I highly recommend them!

Before she went, I'd worked with her on sit, down, take it, leave it, and some spins with decent success. Brian took what she had and built on it, adding heel, come when called, turn, and stay. He returned a noticeably different dog. When we hit some bumps shortly after, he came back out and spent a solid hour with me going over what was actually happening...not just commands and corrections, but why she was behaving the way she was and what she needed from me to feel secure. (Spoiler: she needed me to be more confident and consistent.) He has a way of cutting straight to what matters without overcomplicating it, and more than once he said exactly the right thing at exactly the right moment. What struck me most across both experiences was how much genuine wisdom he brings to his work. He's clearly someone who has learned his craft through deep experience and observation, and it shows in every interaction with the dog and with the owner. On top of all of that, his pricing was incredibly reasonable; boarding and training combined for what many trainers charge for training alone. We felt genuinely taken care of. Kind, patient, perceptive, and exactly what we needed. Highly recommend.
