I stopped by the house of blades to have three carving knives sharpen that I purchased at the House of blaze in 2021. They give you a business size card with information on the knives so that you can have free sharpening. These particular knives cost me between $400 and $500. I don't have cards I think I washed them. I was told without the cards I would have to pay for sharpening. They were unwilling to take my word that I purchased them there. I have purchased a number of other knives. I live in another state so I don't get an opportunity to sharpen knives there anyway. WhenI'm in the area I always stop by & end up finding a knife that I just can't live without no more. So for the price of an employee who was just standing around waiting to help a buying customer they lost a regular customer. House of blaze is definitely a adult toy store that I enjoy in the area. In the future I will just go in take a picture of what I want, go online and purchase it there as I'm going to have to pay for sharpening anyway. read more

I can't imagine a more amazing collection of knives and other blades than what is available at House of Blades. The business card reads "The Largest Selection Of Knives and Cutlery In The World" and I believe it. So how did I end up at House of Blades? Our kitchen knives had become so dull that I could not, with my limited skill, put a sharp edge back on them. So I went to the Internet looking for a place that does knife sharpening and House of Blades comes up. I think there were a couple other options, but I went with HoB because I drive past this place* at least twice a week. For the longest time I thought it was a Japanese steakhouse due to the large revolving knife sign in front of the shop (easily visible from Loop 820). So I give them a call at it's $3 a knife for straight, $5 a knife for serrated. I've seen other places charge by the inch, so this might be a better deal than most, depending on length. In most cases it's done while you wait, but sometimes you have to leave them over night (that's another reason I went with the location that I drive past twice a week). So I show up and Ryan helps me out. Our six kitchen knives are sharpened in about 20 minutes, which gave me some time to browse the amazing collection of knives, from the mass-produced to the hand-made one of kind knives. Beautiful. And for you budding sushi aficionados, you can even pick up an amazing sushi blade for a mere $425 (I forget the name, Kai maybe?). When Ryan his finished, he demonstrates how sharp the knifes are by slicing a piece of paper with no snagging or tearing at all. Amazing. So if you need a knife, sword or just about anything with a blade, do check out House of Blades. Recently bought a knife for my birthday they were so lazy and not able to put it in the system so they give us a little card and expect us to hold onto it for a lifetime the owner and the customer service people they're not kind nor courteous regarding any type of issues for this knife then expect us to pay for service that we have already paid for with the knife being overcharged. read more

Staff is super knowledgeable, attentive, genuine and helpful. Sometimes they have a rough edge, just keep in mind they deal with a lot of customers everyday. Prices are super fair, they let you try out any knife with supervision and they'll sharpen those knives for you! Stopped in here for a last minute Christmas gift for my daughter. I got a very nice pocket knife and then found an even nicer one for my husband. The inventory is dizzying and the staff is very patient and accommodating. They have free sharpening for your purchases and carry good quality items. They also have a nice selection of kitchen knives and cookware. These folks know their stuff and there is no pressure. House of Blades did an excellent job sharpening Four of my Japanese Knives and they were speedy!

Decent selection and nice staff. Matched their internet pricing which is competitive to other online retailers. I would rather spend a couple extra bucks and support the knife community than save a bit and purchase online. I like to hold the knives and check for blade play, test the detents and overall build quality. Love going into an actual local owned business to be able to talk to people about this hobby. I'll gladly pay a few more bucks if I can get it here. EDIT: After purchasing several knives; ZT 556, ZT 801, Benchmade 940, BM Pardue drop point, kershaw Blur, Case stag bone traditional etc. I will say that overall it is a decent experience buying there. I do generally receive good customer crevice. My one gripe is that since most of the bad reviews are based on pricing, yet they will match their internet price, why wouldn't you just want to advertise your competitive price to begin with? How many people walk in, see the MSRP sky high price and just buy online and never come back. Everyone knows that MSRP in the knife world is silly and they are never sold at MSRP see (spyderco ). Are they just trying to squeeze out a few bucks from the uneducated buyer. Either way it is strange. I came in the other day looking for a gift. I was set on the BM griptilian. I asked for the internet price and since they could not find the exact model online I could not get the discount. Dude, it was non coated basic without serrations. Do they have a ton of knives on hand to show and sell you? Heck yes is the answer. Rows and rows of display cases with cheap to high-end knives of all kinds and purposes. What I was in here for though, was their sharpening service. At $3 a knife, that is really darn cheap. Technically, they were supposed to charge me a bit more for some of my knives over 10." Instead of $3, it should have been $4. Still crazy cheap. I dropped off 11 knives from 3 pairing knives of varying quality, some 8 and 10" kitchen knives of various types and qualities, even a 14" what I like to call jungle knife, but short of not quite being a machete. The service took under an hour on a Saturday. For the most part, the knives were sharper than when I dropped them off. They needed a good wash and wipe down to remove any grit or compound used in the process. Here's where they got an "Meh, I've experienced better," rating over the 5 star I gave Seattle Knife Sharpening. It was a simple double-bevel probably done on a angle grinder or belt sander. You get what you pay for, in this case.. A few quick passes, and done. No finish work, no care for the type of knife, the same service regardless of purpose and quality. The 12" polished Sabatier knife that is over 40 years old with a custom hardwood handle on it, got the same level of service that a $10 "Paula Deen," pairing knife received. They should have had different angles on them, let alone a different level of care put on them. Since it was a grind, no finish work done to polish the blade. I also purchased a ceramic steel hone. This way my parents who I did this for, could maintain the edge better over time. It was $50 for what can be bought elsewhere for $20. Perhaps this is how they offset the cheap service with high margins? At the end of the day, the price for service and the customer service are hard to beat. However, if you care about your knives, you may want to look for a more full featured and meticulous knife sharpening service provider. The employees are great, helping, and ready to answer any questions I had. I just bought me a Zero Tolerance 0920 with the 20CV blade and I absolutely love it!
