I ordered Peking Duck with Fried Rice. When I got home, no fried rice. I called and the management told me there is no rice with Peking Duck although the menu show it does come with white rice. We recently came here & the food is still very good! The sweet & sour chicken is my go-to and my husband's favorite is the orange chicken. Sushi is always decent, too. I don't really eat raw fish but the cooked sushi has always been up to par. Wonton soup is flavorful, and so is the pork lo mein. This last time, we ordered steak & cheese egg rolls & didn't receive them.. but I don't think we were charged for them, either, so no harm no foul. read more

I love this place. The food is great the service is excellent. It is a local bar/ Chinese restaurant that also serves sushi and Thai. It's my go to when I don't want to cook during the week. I love their egg drop soup for a quick lunch. A busy business woman's saving grace when the conference calls run late and I need to feed myself and the hubby. My favorites are the General Tao's chicken, Garden salad with ginger dressing, chicken chow mein, pad Thai and you MUST try their sushi! Also great place for a casual drink with friends and they also have live music on certain nights. I love the owner's energy! This might be the worst restaurant I've ever been to. The only positive was the kind server/bartender. The sushi was barely edible. Rice was cold and hard, seaweed was tough, and fish was awful. I can't believe this place passes inspection. There was urine all over the bathroom floor and the smell was horrendous. The whole place is dingy and dirty. We only went here because we wanted sushi but this was a terrible idea. Do not eat here. I took one bite of my food and left the rest. Still paid a small fortune for our dinner. read more

Visited this place three times now. The first time I ordered the red curry chicken. It was delicious except I would have preferred eggplant (which I am used to in this dish) instead of potatoes. Second time I ordered a lot of food, enough to feed me plus 8 hungry construction workers. I got there right when they opened and the guy told me 30 minutes because it was a big order. I had no problem with that. But, they got super busy and the half hour turned into over an hour. It was worth the wait but the woman was very rude when she handed me the food because she saw I was a bit miffed on how long I had to wait. Plus, like I said, she was the only one working the floor and she was super busy. The third time the red curry was just as good. BTW, the guys really enjoyed their food! It's definitely worth the wait. I gave 4 because of the rude service the second time. I will be going back though and try other dishes off their menu since the guys all gave it a thumbs up. read more

I spent $30 last night on a combo meal and a sushi roll. The combo meal was the same average stuff you get at any Chinese restaurant. If anything, it was a little sub par (is kung pao chicken supposed to be sweet?). The sushi roll was one of the specialty rolls (house of Poolesville roll) and the pieces of fish in it were so small that I thought they gave me the wrong one at first. I've had grocery store sushi that was better and cheaper. I get that inflation is rough, but this is ridiculous. read more

Okay so first off, they badly need a makeover. They have busted, dirty, old awnings that need to be removed and would make the storefront look much more clean and open. They have messy hand written signs at the carry out window. They could have at least typed something up neatly and more professional. It's an eyesore in the center of town, so as a resident I'm not happy about that. However the food has fresh ingredients and is pretty good, but then again there aren't many options within Poolesville. I definitely think the food is better quality than Oriental Gourmet in town. The staff there also seems very nice. However, I do not recommend their curry dishes. I ordered the green curry- and it was just not a typical curry dish at all. It was a little spicy but I really didn't taste curry. And it's more like a mildly spicy, watery, gravy sauce rather than a creamy coconut milk base like Thai curry is supposed to be. I definitely won't order that again. I will continue to order the dishes I liked and try their sushi. I really hope they invest in making the exterior of the building look nicer. read more

I am not a food snob, I like good american chinese at times, and authentic chinese other times. This place just did not cut for me. Food was neither authentic, nor good. I am sorry, but I call into question all those reviews that say the food was very good, based on my experience here. Indeed the place is run down; par for the course for a lot chinese food joints (this one's supposed to be more 'pan-asian', but I did not try, nor do I think I am keen on testing, their sushi or thai), the focus is usually supposed on the food quality, not the decor. Well, I was really disappointed. Finally, portions were unbelievably small for the price! Not what one would expect for such a restaurant. I don't even know where to begin on this one so I'll just tell the story. Yesterday I went with my sister to go pick up a new car she bought (I'll talk about that in another review) and on the way back we decided to take a 'different' route crosses the Potomac RIver with a cool old ferry. Via the wandering route to the Ferry we ended up in front of The House of Poolseville. I was hungry so despite the ancient sign, the strange name (particularly for an Asian Restaurant) and the fact that the place looks like a house we parked in what seemed like a nearly full parking lot. I opened the door of the car and heard some live rock and roll coming from the other side of a tall white fence. Ok - here we go; we enter: The House of Poolesville. This is the strangest layout I've ever seen for a restaurant. Two bathrooms at the entry, a long dingy hallway leads to either a dark dining room with a 'take-out' sign above the door or winds around a corner to a big bar in the middle of a room. The staff greet us and are very friendly. Yeah, we'll sit outside and eat. There is a band, four old guys playing old rock, playing at the end of a big white tent and a lot of people sitting drinking and listening. I didn't notice anyone eating but what the hell, we're hungry. How bad could it be? The waitress is really nice and tells us that everything on the menu is really great (really?) even though it's like a small book. Flashes of failed restaurant TV shows enter my mind! This is getting concerning so I know!!!! I'll order sushi! Let's try, what's the worst that could happen? Food poisoning? I've survived it before! You don't get to be Elite without taking risks! The band is to loud... either the guys need to turn up their hearing aids or turn down the sound a little. The waitress agrees (after she strains to hear what I'm saying.) She whispers something to one of the band people between songs and low and behold they get the levels right! Cool... They are a really solid cover band now that I can actually hear what they are playing! Nice work guys! I order "The House of Poolesville Roll": Salmon, Yellowtail and Tuna with Avocado. When at The House of Poolseville.... We also order an Avocado Salad, some chicken and Eggplant and a couple of spring rolls. The spring rolls are to hot to eat (temp) but once they cool down they taste like every other fast food spring roll. I'm not sure what I expected but I wouldn't order them again. I'm worried about the pending sushi! The Avocado salad comes out. Wow! It's huge. For $5.95 it's a steal. I hope it tastes ok? Yip! Wow, it's great! I think it's a whole avocado over a really nice salad! The only bad thing is that it's go so much dressing that it's drowning in it... but it's a really good ginger dressing so actually it's great that there is a lot of it... I don't see how they make any money on this dish but it's good! It could be half the size and still meet expectation. The Eggplant and chicken come out (with Brown Rice that my sister wanted). Very tasty! Japanese Eggplants, water chestnut, chicken... it's seasoned well (in fact a bit spicy for my sister) and there is a huge amount of it. Ok... maybe the sushi will be ok... The sushi arrives.... it's really pretty... wow! It's really good. Maybe I won't spend the evening praying in the bathroom after all!?! Could be worse even if I did, at least I'm not in Krakow at Śledź U Fryzjera! We spent the next 20 minutes trying to get our check and a take-away box. Maybe they are just in the weeds but it really took a lot of effort to get out! At least the music was good. Ok... so this place badly needs a make over on the inside. The food is surprisingly good given the enormous menu. The wait staff is super friendly but a bit overwhelmed I think. I wouldn't hesitate to come here again but it's way outside my normal stomping grounds so who knows when the next time will be. The House of Poolesville is a winner for what it is but I can't give it more stars unless the service gets more organized and the interior of the place gets a makeover! We ordered from them years ago and the food was terrible, so we didn't go back. but by now we thought they might have a new chef. The food is 5 stars. I've only had the Chinese (they also have some Thai and American selections on the menu). But its very good Chinese, its priced decently, and portion sizes are adequate. Why 4 stars instead of 5? Communicating with the staff can be a challenge (English is not their first language), and the establishment itself is...weird. I can't explain--the decor, the bar, the fireplace with the re-corked wine bottles on the mantle, and the always-present Asian Grandmother slurping soup in the corner. If anyone gets the nerve to come here for the live music on Friday/Saturday nights, let me know how that works out for you. read more

Great local hit spot for Chinese food and other Asian fare. Gen Tso's chicken is consistently good. Egg rolls and sushi rolls, wonton soup are staples. Far better and more consistent than other fancier higher priced places. We routinely take it back into town. read more

Been here several times with my family and friends. Poolesville is a very good small town and this is among the few eateries in this area. This place is amazing with their good food. It's not necessarily the best Asian joint but for us and am sure the rest of the the local community it serves the purpose. I love the wonton soup and every item I've ordered in the past has been good. I am not a fun of the brown sauce they put on almost everything otherwise love coming here on those slow days for lunch and dinner. Food comes fast, big servings and large selection. If you are looking for authentic Chinese food, however, this is not the place. It is more akin to fast-food with lots of sugar and corn starch added to hide the lack of flavour. Sauces are all canned and mixed with meat or vegetables of you choice. House of Poolesville proves the rule. The food is comparable to the kind you get at a mall food court: prepackaged and pre-made, then microwaved to warm it up. Processed, bland, and instantly forgettable. Also, the restaurant just feels...dirty. Not dirty in a good way, either (like "sexually enticing" dirty). Dirty like the place should be shut down for a week and scrubbed with bleach. Two stars because despite all the faults, the staff was really friendly. I have eaten here twice and I am pleasantly surprised. Surprised that there is a sushi place in such a small town and surprised that is any good. There is a genuine feel of a privately owned restaurant, no fake, mass produced decor. You feel like you are truly sitting in the dining room of your adoptive Chinese grandma. The sushi is tasty, not the best I've ever had but they make up for it with their pan-Asian cuisine. Last night, I had the Dynamite roll with salmon and my spouse had unagi sashimi. Mine was too spicy (and I do like spicy) but the eel melted in my mouth. It had no fishy flavor and it was attractive. I mentioned to the chef that my sushi was too spicy to hardly consume with out breathing fire and he showed me the bottle of Chinese hot sauce (Sriracha) that was used. WHOO! Not for the faint of heart! The hot sauce is not the only thing they were heavy handed on. I ordered a Margarita and it was almost clear, I kid you not. See through. While it was a great deal to get so much Tequila in one glass, I politely asked for more mixer and they gladly obliged. We also indulged in the Egg Foo Young and it was so rich and filling, the two of us together could not finish it. I loved every bite I could manage. The sauce was creamy, the eggs were fluffy with seasoning and veggies. Our waitress, who is also the owner, was extremely nice and warm. Service was fast, we never had to wait long for anything and the food was hot. There was a local band playing there too! Another pleasant surprise for a rainy Saturday evening in small town. I may have experienced the worst service of my life this evening. We had to ask for silverware 4 times. It took over an hour for our mediocre food to show up. The chicken was undercooked. The duck was over cooked. Our server spilled duck sauce all over a member of my group. Not the translucent condiment... drippings and broth from an actual roasted duck. We were told there was no sushi... but before we left, other customers were being served sushi. I don't know how the ratings for this place are so good. Maybe it's a Poolesville thing.
