This place is a hidden gem! We stumbled upon House of Tacos as we were leaving Hershey and headed down to MD. The owner and staff were not only pleasant, but super informative, patient and made certain we got what we ordered. Two items fell off our original handwritten order while being transferred to a new ticket (honest mistake), and when we told them we were missing the items, they were extremely kind and cooked them right up. Keep in mind this place offers fresh authentic Mexican food, but I noticed a bit of Puerto Rican sabor! Lastly, don't let the neighboring Pizza Hut/gas station nearby fool you. We witnessed a family run business with steady traffic as we waited for our order, and a Mexican eatery with the sweetest Spanish style booths! I wish this eatery was in my neighborhood! We just might need to take a very specific route on our next roadtrip so we can visit House of Tacos again! So good! Based its location I really didn't expect much here. But this place was crowded and had a line. It is family run. And service was attentive .i ordered 3 American style tacos( chicken ,ground beef ,and tongue). They came out in great time. And they looked good. Admittedly I've been sleeping on this place because I (wrongly) assumed that it was an Americanized taco place. I was wrong. The enchiladas were some of the best I've ever had. Decor/service: the service is slow which can be somewhat expected being new but I mean it is SLOWW. Deff need to have improvement in that area. The decor is basic, nothing special. Food: I was hopeful going in and disappointed after. The tacos both Mexican and American were average. The quesadilla was weird. Moved here from the west coast and have tried multiple Mexican restaurants looking for something authentic that's close to what you can find closer to the boarder. This is as close as we've come to finding anything authentic. Their salsas aren't good, but the food is. Their crunchy tacos are typical. We've been looking for hard shell tacos that are fried, not like the Taco Bell shells. This place doesn't do fried hard shells, but their Birria tacos are amazing, and their chicken is good. They have pretty good flavor, considering everything we've tried has been bland as beige. Just wish the salsa's were more authentic. Their mild reminds me of jar salsa you find at a grocery store, and their hot has a metallic taste to it. But the quality and flavor of their food is the best we've found in all of the Lancaster area. Definitely worth a try!! read more

My gf and I came to town for the Zack Brown concert at Hershey. We spent the whole holiday weekend (4th of July). The day before the concert, we looked this place up, as we were in the mood for Mexican. Ironically though we each ordered the 4pk of American Tacos. We decided to eat there. It's a small strip mall type restaurant, but the tables were clean, and the staff were very friendly. When we sat down, I went to grab my soda and accidentally knocked my entire pack of tacos onto the floor. I was so embarrassed. The staff member came over, told me not to worry about it, and immediately started me another 4 pack, while another employee quickly attended to my mess. I was humbled by their kindness. And they obviously expedited my order so my girlfriend wasn't eating alone. They brought the replacement batch to my table within 10 minutes. As for the food... DELICIOUS!!!! I eyed up this place a few times, while waiting at the light there. We finally made it in there with the intent to see if they had birria tacos, which they do! It is small in there, and we were confused how to order so we tentatively walked up to the counter. The employees didn't speak English well, so the exchange was awkward a bit, but we ordered the birria tacos and a side of guacamole. We went and sat and soon the tacos arrived, then the guacamole came after with a free order of chips. (I didn't order them, and I think they charge usually?) The guacamole was made fresh and was so creamy and perfect. The birria makes me drool just thinking about it. The consomme was so wonderfully seasoned, I tasted so many things and I was trying to place the flavors. Definitely ancho chile, but somehow I tasted a tinge of licorice! Which I loved. I ordered by phone and my order was carefully assembled by staff attentive to detail. I ordered chicken enchiladas and guacamole. The chicken enchiladas were abundantly filled with tender and well seasoned chicken with a delicious enchilada sauce. The guacamole was fantastic as it rivaled my own made guacamole. This is definitely a hidden gem! Only 7 tables. So it's quite small. You go up to the window to place your order, but they do bring the food out to you. The salsa.... Was ok. Not awesome. I was actually prepared to dislike the food. But OMG. I got an al pastor burrito and the flavors and spices are out of this world good. Very flavorful. My daughter got a Mexican chorizo taco and an American steak taco. Both were delicious. Don't discount the atmosphere of this place. We went to scope out the House of Tacos because we had my sons friends coming for a good bye get together for a friend and we decided to do their Tacos. I placed the order online for pick up at 6:55. We got there early 6:45.... There was our huge order sitting there packed up the guy said since 6:30. I wasn't happy then but he assured us it wouldn't be soggy we live across practically from the place. We opened up everything and it was totally soggy nachos, tacos everything. We were very unhappy I will say we called I spoke with the owner and financially she made it right but I was sad because the food was a bust for the guys. Which is a shame because what we had when we were there before was great. Lesson is this if you call a head for a order make sure not to call through the online number. Call the regular number. If you order things Togo make them keep the stuff separate for nachos . By all means never assume calling for a specified time means it won't be made very early.
