Stopped in here today for lunch around 11:30am. The restaurant is pretty clean and not noisy. The hostess was announcing to each arriving patron that they are not serving breakfast after 11am. They also have it written on their white board with the specials stating this. Not sure if this is just a weekend thing or every day. I've spent the last few years only going to the Ephrata Gus's restaurant which in my opinion is bigger and always serves breakfast all day long every day. This Gus's restaurant in Mount Joy has a more limited menu in comparison, but still has a lot to offer. I ordered the broiled fish which tasted great and my fiancé ordered the penne shrimp pasta, also delicious. I personally prefer the Ephrata location over this one. Very good food. We did order an appetizer that was never out in, but probably just as well as dinner was filling.

Gus's is a classic Pennsylvania Dutch eatery. I love coming here when I come to visit my family in PA. The menu is extensive - so many great dishes from this region. Tons of seafood options, surprisingly. I usually get their crab cakes, which are crab-packed. Broasted chicken is one of their specialities. The portions are enormous. The service is fast and efficient. I give this four stars for the nostalgia factor. I'll be back on my next visit for sure. read more

A trip to visit family in Mount Joy is NEVER complete without at least one trip to Gus's. I have tried breakfast more times than I can count and have also taken a "tour" of the menu from sandwiches, to classic dinners to seafood. During my latest visit, I ordered one of the specials,the pumpkin bread French toast. Oh my goodness - three large slices of homemade pumpkin bread, grilled and served with cinnamon cream cheese. It was delicious. I ate till I was stuffed and still brought home enough for breakfast the next day plus dessert that night. Just writing this is making me crave it. Speaking of breakfast, my parents usually always order "Gus's Feast". 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 pancakes, homefries AND toast - this much food at one sitting should be illegal! There are always enough leftovers for at least another meal. "Leftovers" seems to be a theme here - if you leave Gus's hungry, it's your own fault. It would be one thing if were just a lot of food on a plate but I have yet to find anything I haven't liked. Great breakfast spot. Big and busy, but the staff makes you feel like you are something special. I paid attention to the staff, they were always working The breakfast itself was just what I wanted, a full breakfast. The 2-2-2 has 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 2 pancakes or French toast. I added a third egg. I came with an appetite and it was satisfying. The food was great, and the best review was all the people arriving for breakfast, so the locals know it is good. And I noticed several times, when a patron was arriving or leaving, that they greeted a staff member by name. So people who eat there come back for more. 10 out of 10. read more

We visited during lunch and had great meals both days. I was pleased my coworker was excited to come back on day 2. Service both days was quick and very friendly and the food was excellent. Day 1 was stuffed cabbages which were wonderful -- sweet tomato sauce with slightly spicy filling. I wasn't thrilled to get gravy on the mashed potatoes buy I also didn't request it be left off. My coworker had the Greek salad with a huge piece of salmon. She is a foodie and said it was great. Today, I got a super club and she got something I called the Captains Platter; I'm not sure what was on it but she loved it and took half home. Wow! Just wow! A short time ago I was traveling to New Holland PA, when needed to stop for lunch. Found this gem in Mount Joy! Waitress was friendly and welcoming. The menu had so many great items, it was difficult to choose just one thing! I had the Turkey, avocado panini, fresh and delicious, with chips. My traveling companion had the broasted chicken, four pieces plus served with side and soup or salad. Very tasty!! Ended up leaving with two to go containers and a slice of carrot cake for later. Gus's was a great find!!! Good food, at a good price!! Family friendly, plenty of parking. A wonderful reason to visit Mount Joy again! Stop in and see for yourself. Looking to try someplace new and nearby, we decided to try Gus's, a long time local favorite. When we arrived it was after lunch and it was fairly empty, but by 3 pm there was a steady customer stream. There are several distinct dining areas. We were seated front by the window. We started off with some nicely brewed iced tea. The menu is extensive with Greek and American traditional fare - sandwiches, dinners, sides and appetizers. We went all over the menu considering the liver and onions, the croquettes, and salmon cakes, but settled on an egg and olive sandwich and a corned beef sandwich. I got mine with a cup of Italian wedding soup. We also chose rice pudding made in house. Everything was fresh and tasty. Price point was under $30 for both of us plus gratuity. I couldn't get many photos but this eatery is pretty well reviewed. I think anyone could find something tasty on this menu any time of the day. read more

We were in Ephrata for business and decided to eat in the area rather than drive back through Lancaster. Mistake. My wife had breakfast consisting of an omelet, home fries and toast and she enjoyed it. I ordered a crock of French onion soup and an order of french fries. A dinner roll came along. The fries were overcooked and greasy enough that they could have been used to lubricate a small engine. The soup had an odd taste, was loaded with chunks of bread that were supposed to pass for croutons, and instead of having cheese melted on top, the cheese was a half golf ball sized glob in the bottom of the bowl. The roll, which I assume was not made on site, was warm, had a nice texture and a pleasant taste. There is restaurant food, there is diner food, there is fast food, and then there is this. I don't even know how to categorize it. My first time there and hopefully my last. read more

Gus's is a long time favorite of families and, frankly, older folks in the Mount Joy area. I ordered the Mexican Omelette, which was decent, but I feel like if I bought those ingredients from the grocery store and just threw them together to make the omelette, it would taste about the same (which is not a good thing for the restaurant). The chorizo sausage was tasty though and had a bit of a spicy kick. The omelette was a bit watery at the bottom and could use some more seasoning/flavor. I also got the Boston Cream Pie, which was good but standard. At least the prices were pretty cheap, as the omelette was $11 and the Boston Cream Pie was $4.29. There is a large interior seating area which is clean but very plain in terms of decor/atmosphere, though there is a classic rustic diner kind of feel. There is a huge parking lot out front which is convenient. The service speed was pretty quick. Overall, Gus's is not bad, but the food and environment are both quite bland so unless you are coming as a family tradition, you might be better off looking elsewhere. read more

Diners are a dime a dozen in Lancaster County, PA, so customers can be picky. Gus's Keystone Diner has two locations, one in Mount Joy and a second in Akron/Ephrata (on Rt. 272 across from the Dutchway and Goods shopping center). The Mount Joy location is easy to find, has plenty of off street parking, and offers lots of tables, which can accommodate a sizable number of customers at once. The atmosphere is classic diner with booths, stand-alone tables, and counter service, and they can easily set up tables for larger groups. At 9:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning, there was no wait and we were offered a selection of seating options, so we had a desirable table. The wait staff was prompt and attentive. Coffee was hot and plentiful. My order of the standard scrambled eggs, home fried potatoes, and toast was served promptly, delivered ample portions, and was as tasty as one could expect. Nothing fancy, just a satisfying breakfast. My spouse ordered 2 eggs over easy with home fries and toast. Just as good. Also ordered a slice of coconut cream pie for desert, and the serving size was so large, we had to ask for a takeout box to take that with us. The seafood was delicious, perfect scallops, the soups are good, the coffee was perfect, the salads were fresh. The food is ordinary to below average. The eggs benedict sauce is oily and heavy, not home made or even made well from a mix. The english muffins under the eggs benedict wasn't toasted so it was rubbery and tough. My friend's sausage was so ordinary he didn't finish it. Passed this place many times and friends have raved about the food they had so we decided to stop in over the Christmas holiday week and get breakfast. The parking lot is quite large but packed when we got there around 9 am on a Saturday. We gave our names at the register, were given a number and seated in about 15 min. The wait area is super tight just a warning. We were seated in what I believe might be a banquet hall with many tables set up close to one another. Mostly an older elderly crowd but reminded me a lot of diners and family style restaurants my parents would take us to growing up. Waitress was a bit overwhelmed with the crowd but very pleasant and made recommendations on specials they had. Ordered pancakes, eggs and bacon, husband had chicken and waffles. Once the food arrived it was well worth the wait! Best pancakes I've ever had and husband loved his breakfast as well. We had enough to take home and it was still crowded after we left. Decor wise it's a bit dated like in the 90s. Half the restaurant reminded me of a diner with tables and booths, the other a banquet hall we ate in with tables set up. The ice machine was also broken when we went but aside from warm OJ, it didn't bother us much. Looking forward to dining here again, maybe for lunch or dinner. read more

I'm vacillating between 3 and 4 stars. This is standard American diner fare. So to maximize your pleasure, get standard American food, nothing fancy. We went for lunch, because it was advertised oysters were on special. They were tasteless. The broccoli salad side on the other hand was fresh and excellent. Later we went for breakfast. I had biscuits and sausage gravy. I thought the biscuits were a bit large relative to the gravy, but on the whole satisfying. I'm told the pancakes are good, but unfortunately the only syrup is in little packets, not true maple syrup. That's a no go for me. read more

We're in town for a wedding and wanted to eat somewhere local. We saw lots of options, but picked Gus's based on the reviews. They were right! Lots of locals having breakfast on a Friday morning, so you know it's good. Lots of space, so we felt socially distant, and the food was incredible!! I had the pumpkin bread French toast with a side of bacon and home fries. Not much was left, but what was came with me for later. The food is your typical diner fare, with everything coming from a can or out of a box. Don't expect any scratch-made goodies here, which is fine because the prices are reflective of that. Country Fried Steak and Eggs ($8.49) Any good diner worth their salt should be able to pull off a CFS and Gus's did a good job. The steak itself was one of the smaller ones I have encountered, but at least it was crispy and fried-up fresh. The gravy was thick and hearty but pretty standard in flavor. Eggs were cooked well but the biscuit was a touch dry for my liking. Overall solid dish. 3.5* Scrapple ($2.99) Hard for me to go to Amish-country and not get this local "delicacy"; my first attempt we purchased some locally-made scrapple from one of the butcher shops and I cooked it myself and found it to be decent. This time I wanted to get it at a restaurant and it was a whole other story. The exterior was fried up nice and crisp but the interior was so mushy that I could only make it through about halfway despite my attempts at masking the flavour with grape jelly and maple syrup. We suspect they bought a commercially available scrapple, as opposed to one made locally because the the differences were staggering. I suggest they resource this item. 1* Service & Ambiance Service was a bit hectic as our waitress seemed to e having a hard time as she kept having to go back and retrieve items from the kitchen. Carissa mentioned that service was usually good here, so I'll believe her―as she's been here numerous times. Ambiance is pretty standard country diner chic décor―with floral patterns and farming implements on the wall. Service 2-4* Ambiance 4* Value Great prices for what you get. Probably their strongest attribute. 5* Gus's is a typical Greek-owned diner that one has probably dined at a thousand times before all across America. This is my grandparents' go-to spot, and when I came out to visit them I knew I had to check this place out! This place has everything you can ask for in a quaint little diner - cozy family vibes, friendly atmosphere, and amazing food with amazing portions! I got the super club with the fries and coleslaw, and my wife got the lasagna. Grandma got the hamloaf and grandpap got the turkey entree with extra gravy. The food was hearty, the presentation was beautiful, and everything was delicious! I could barely eat half of my portion before tapping out. It made a great lunch the next day! Our family went for dinner on Saturday. I ordered the broiled seafood combo. The crab cake was sort of like a crab imperial, rich and buttery. The stuffed shrimp had a different seasoning than the crab, but just as delicious. Others got seafood or salads. The portions are huge. And the prices are very good. read more

This is your typical old school "diner" just with a much larger footprint. The best bets were always your usual roadside diner offerings - burgers, sandwiches, breakfast, etc. My preference was to come here for some biscuits and gravy, sausage and bacon.
