We had the pleasure of eating at House Pasture Cattle Company this past July 4th. I'm not a big meat eater by any means, but I do like chicken, so I figured they would have something. They did. Our party of 4 adults, 2 teenagers, and 1 young'un, started with a Fried Mushrooms appetizer. Very good. Not awesome, but very good. They were hand battered, and came with ranch. A very healthy portion too. We all had plenty and there were even some to spare that we picked on later. The other lady in our party ordered a bottle of Prosecco (she loves it!), and together her and I enjoyed the whole thing. It's a dry county, so you end up having to pay $1.00 for the county "club" or however they do it so you're allowed to have an alcoholic beverage. They had one of my favorite "southern" foods -- Chicken Fried Chicken. It's how I can tell a good restaurant. And this one did theirs to perfection. Probably the 2nd best I've ever had. It was a nice portion that I ended up sharing around the table, and the batter was nice and crispy like I like. It came with gravy, green beans, a potato/peppers mixture, and a roll. Everything was excellent. I won't say that everything LOOKED like it was going to taste as good as it was though. The potato/peppers dish looked kinda dark and a bit messy, for lack of a better word. But, it was delicious! I gobbled up the green beans quite fast too. My husband had the Grilled Mahi Mahi and he really loved it. He's usually a vegetarian, but a couple of times a year he will step into the seafood waters. I had a bite, and it was cooked & seasoned very well. One of the teenagers had the same dish and also agreed that it was a very good dish. The other teenager had the Chicken Fried Steak and said he really liked his too. "One of the best" he said. He also had a chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert and once he took one bite of it, he wouldn't share. It was quite a large piece too. Once he managed to clear his mouth, he said it was very good and had a bit of a cinnamon taste to it too. The lack of the extra star is because of a couple of things. While our order was taken very promptly and our drinks were looked after very well in the beginning of our visit, the attention of our waitress started to wane. Cory Morrow was playing that night outside or out back, and she had a shirt of his on, so I imagine she was just trying to catch glimpses of the show. Understandable, but it did start to get annoying when we were trying to find her for things. Also, it took quite a long time for our entrees to come out. We were done with our appetizer and side salads long before the food came out. It started to get to be one of those... "Did they forget about us?" type of situations. But, the food was all very hot and very good. A bit of random info, but while we ate in the dining room area, and the band was obviously playing wherever they were, it was quite nice to not be drowned out by the music. Only distinctly heard the bass guitar a bit. This place is the only Bar & Grill in Concan, so they could probably get away with lesser quality, but they don't seem to even consider it. Horse Pasture Cattle Co is about the only option in Concan, so if you go when they are open, expect a friendly welcome and really nice people. The bartenders do their best to make a quality cocktail with the available spirits. Wine is hard to come by, typically boxed. Steaks are hit or miss on the cooking, meaning, it does not really matter how you order your steak, its going to come out of the kitchen the way they cook it. Mashed potatoes were creamy and good. The canned green beans were mushy and just awful. Fresh garden salad. The place is room and large. Would love to go back when there is a live western band or singer. read more

I came with my family and from the start the waitress acted like she had a problem to wait on us. The food tasted like it was all frozen and nothing was fresh. We waited over 20 min for drink refills. Next my dad ordered the special which was a ribeye and he ordered it medium. We all got our food except him. He got his about 15 min later and his steak was cooked extra well done. He then told the server and she took it back to fix it. We were waiting and after about 15 min we asked for a manager, keep in mind we all finished eating and we are all waiting on this one steak to come out. The manager came out with an attitude and approached the table saying, "IS THERE A PROBLEM?" First of all, why are you approaching my table like that when you messed up? We told her what is happening and I told her the right thing to do would be to take care of the meal. She told me she could not. I asked to speak to the owner, she comes back a few min later and says the owner is back there cooking the steaks and he's sweating like a pig which he cannot come out because he's swamped and we can only take 50% off. We told her no and forget the steak and we left without my dad getting any food. There were 2 small children running in and out of the kitchen with no shoes on. The women's bathroom had no hand soap and only hand sanitizer. This makes me wonder if the kitchen workers have proper hand soap in the kitchen when preparing our food. Will not be returning and was very sad to have to have such an awful experience. read more

Hmm... where to begin?! Our entire family would give this negative stars if we could. We didn't eat at House Pasture, but we did go to a concert and while we understand COVID has really messed up a lot of things - this was overall a terrible customer service and concert experience. We bought tickets months in advance and the day before the concert, we received an email that we could purchase a table before they were sold to the public. I called the venue, a super nice gentleman answered and advised that we come up to the venue and he'd show us the tables and layout, then allow us to select whatever table we preferred. The venue was super close to our cabin so we did just this! The guy, Michael, showed us around, showed us the tables and said we'd have to go inside to pay... go inside to pay and mind you, not just pay $50 or $75 for a table, but $150 for their second-tier tables, the best tables were $250. The woman working inside, Michelle, was probably one of the most unprofessional, rudest people I've ever met in my life. I was so kind and gracious to her, even after she didn't even greet me upon entering the bar. It was awful, yet I still gave her $150 to reserve a table. Should've known better, but wanted to support the business and actually see the band. The awful Michelle woman wasn't the end of our terrible experience... our $150 table was covered in rat/mice poop upon arrival. Luckily my mother brought a package of wipes so we wiped the table down ourselves. Because of COVID, everyone was asked to stay seated in groups of 8 or less during the concert - during the ENTIRE concert, young teenagers rushed through the "security" they had in place and all night, workers were in front of the stage trying to haul off kids or break up large groups of people. I love standing by the stage just as much as anyone else, but there are rules! And, this constant back and forth due to the lack of preparation on the venue's end made the night so miserable for everyone that spent money on expensive tables. We also had a group of probably 15 kids at a table behind us that bumped into our chairs, knocked us in the heads all night - none of which had the reserved table wristbands on... not a single one. There was a female bartender that I'm positive never smiled once the entire time we got up to get service because, yep, our $150 table didn't even include bar or wait service. All in all, this was one of the most costly concerts I've been to, but yet one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a venue. From the customer service to the lack of prep on the venue's end, I, nor my family, will EVER be back and I won't recommend this place to anyone. Catch a concert elsewhere! And, from the looks of the reviews on the food, I'd eat elsewhere, too. read more

Worst dining experience ever. Only getting one star because it won't let me leave it at zero. We came here with a large group and arrived as soon as they opened. Despite the restaurant being empty on a Saturday night they were not accommodating at all. It took forever to get our drinks and when our food arrived it was horrible. My son took one bite of his hamburger and discovered a strand of hair. We were really looking forward to our dinner here as we used to come here all the time. I can tell you after this trip we won't be coming back. It speaks volumes that on a Saturday evening in the summer it is mostly empty tables. read more

Definitely not worth the price for the quality of the steaks. All 3 steaks in the party had to be sent back to be cooked longer. Would have been nice if they brought us fresh sides considering they took our entire plates to the back to cook the steaks longer. So we had reheated steaks and cold sides. They were not tender and tons of inedible parts. We also had to ask for a new hamburger bun because the bottom bun was soggy on the burger someone ordered. Service was subpar as well and we were the only table. Our server spent more time in the kitchen rather than trying to make things right for us. We are visiting from out of town and were really looking forward to some great food after spending all day on the river. First of all the service was not great at all. There were 5 of us and anytime we needed something we had to flag the waitress down. The place was not so busy or I might have been more understanding. The burgers my friends got didn't even come with vegetables. They had to ask for them and they were brought. My ribeye was cooked well enough but for $35 I expected a better steak with less fat. The bacon Mac and cheese was really good. When we finished and got the ticket we found out they don't split tickets. I've never been to a restaurant that doesn't split the tickets up. There is a small notice written on the dry erase board at the front of the restaurant but why they don't allow this is just strange. Overall I was not impressed with this place at all. read more

Fun place to see a concert, but we didn't eat here. There was no food available the night we were there because of the concert. As far as the concert venue, it's fun but the people were rude. We had 2 chairs and a blanket right in front of that (in the appropriate sections) and people were walking on my blanket and they stepped on me and my daughter. People littering and the cigarette smoke made it a little not fun for me. read more

What an experience. Ordered and found out that they were out of: Fillet mignon, corn, NY strip, baked potatoes. Ordered the ribeye. Came with salad bar. Iceburg with ranch and some sweet red dressing, carrots, tomatoes and cottage cheese. Not my idea of a salad bar. Chicken Fried Steak had a burnt oil taste to it and the gravy was sweet...real sweet. The green beans tasted like they came out of a gerber baby food jar. My granddaughter could eat them with no teeth. One of the steaks had so much gristle we had to send it back. House Pasture was a regular spot for us to dine while on vacation, since 2009. I won't return again since THREE people in our party got food poisoning after eating grilled chicken for dinner there. All three were vomiting in the wee hours of the morning and it continued for about 12 hours. It made for a really rough ride home as we were departing that morning. I called and reported the incidents to what sounded like a teenager. She did not express much concern for our situation. I also reported it to the Uvalde County health department (via voice mail) but was never contacted with any follow up information. We enjoyed dining there in the past. I use to think that the food was decent, though not spectacular. It was convenient, as we were staying down the road so it was close and easy. Horseshoes, live music, decent food, and when you pay the "membership fee" you can purchase alcohol - it's the only place in the county I believe that you can get drinks at. We were seated promptly outside and our waitress was friendly enough - but I agree with the other reviewer - not long after drinks and an appetizer the service lagged and the food lagged even more. My local friends who took us here told us this was THE place for fried pickles which I was excited to try. We ordered them but I wasn't allowed to try them. Apparently they were different and not good at all, so my friends wouldn't let my palate be tainted. They honestly didn't even look appetizing, just slopped onto the plate. Where's the pride people? I don't think any of us were thrilled with our food - I committed a cardinal sin by ordering pasta - but I just truly needed a break from all the fried food, chicken, or steak. The sauce was decent - I wasn't interested in the chicken on top (I didn't even know it came with it) and when my boyfriend tried a bit it appears I'd made the right decision. I don't think he was impressed at all with the rib eye - they were out of filet, and the cheese sticks were tasty but they served them with ranch because they don't have marinara. What? There was a private party going on at the time we were there so it was a bit annoying to hear random people making speeches during our dinner before the band arrived. It was too hot and not breezy enough where we were eating so we ended up relocating to the more outdoor area before the band started up. The drinks weren't strong but they were decent tasting - I guess as the only place you can get drinks you can only complain so much (unless you're a Yelper where you feel entitled to gripe). I've gotten better meals at Whataburger that's a fast food joint. If I had to compare it to something I'd say a a little below Chili's. Except Chili's won't automatically add gratuity to your bill when you're done. I didn't expect that at all! This place isn't even a little fancy but yet you are forced to tip. The one star is simply for the one person who had a good meal in our family. They ran out of chicken. They served the side salads after our meals. The chicken fried steak was extremely burnt. I sent mine back & so should everyone at my table but my family was hungry. The macaroni was horrible, not sure how you mess up macaroni. My husbands plate came out 15 minutes after everyone else's... so he basically had to eat by himself. We would not recommend this place. read more

This place should not even be listed as a restaurant. First the service is terrible.The $35 steak is mostly fat and served over cooked after at least a 35 minute wait. The menu includes about 20 items and half are appetizers. After the 4 steaks we ordered at our table came out wrong we ask to see a manager. We were told we could come to his office he never showed up at our table. As we were leaving this place the bartender made the comment "glad y'all enjoyed our steaks". If you're looking for a cold drink and a hot meal do not come here. We got here at 6:30 with a table of 8 adults and 6 kids. It took an hour for the food to start coming out. Beers came out in the mean time incorrect and hot. All other beverages melted in seconds due to the two pieces of ice given. The waitress came and rudely stole a fan from us that we filled up with water. Once food came out piece by piece it was cold. Portions are small for the price. My side of mash potatoes was a tablespoon full. Once the checks came out they over charged us. I do not recommend this place, grab some burgers and grill them yourself. This is the only restaurant open late in the area, which is why we stopped, by late I mean open after 9pm. Everything closes at 9 which makes no sense during the peak summer months! Anyways, service was horrible. 4 waitresses in the main dining room, each waitress had 1 table, which were the only tables with customers. The bar area was full of customers, there was a live band as well. You would think 1 waitress per table each waitress would be attentive, NOT the case. They all gathered at the hostess counter talking and laughing. The food was hit and miss. The sweet tea was good. Appetizer sampler: fried mushrooms were very good, Frio fries delicious, then there's the chips and salsa... the chips were cold and probably just poured out of a bag, the salsa cold and probably straight from a jar, no good. Main courses: chicken fried chicken with cream gravy, a salad and fries. No seasoning in the batter but the chicken was cooked perfectly, there was too much batter so I scraped most of it off and ate the chicken now salted. They had "the hood ranch" so the salad was excellent, their fries are fluffy inside, crunchy outside. 2nd order was smoked salmon with bacon Mac n cheese. Smoked salmon was actually pretty good, we were surprised, it only needed some lemon and salt, otherwise cooked perfectly. Bacon Mac n cheese had a nice flavor, it was just a little dry. 3rd order was mesquite grilled chicken breast, which comes smothered with Swiss cheese and mushrooms, he ordered without the cheese, along with green beans and garlic mashed potatoes. The chicken was cooked perfectly, no seasoning. The green beans were canned, no seasoning. The garlic mashed potatoes had potential to be freakin amazing but had way too much garlic! They were overly seasoned while everything else was under or not seasoned at all! For the price of the items we expected the food to be seasoned better since all of it was cooked perfectly, but again, it's the only restaurant open in the area after 9 so we were thankful for that! read more

I can't tell you squat about the food here, as I came just for a Texas Country music concert. The venue itself is based upon being at a camp or pasture party. The stage is under the main section where folks eat dinner. Everything is wide open and it's pretty hot during the summer. The courtyard is nice, and you can still see the stage while getting some outside breeze. Bottled domestic beers were $3 and there were lots of bars and no waiting. I wish the same could be said for the restrooms. They were tiny and crowded. The women were waiting 20-30 minutes to get inside. The guys line was moving faster at 15 minutes. At least add some porta-potties for concert nights. If you can do it, I suggest getting your tickets early at will call, as the main ticket line is slow. Every ID has to be scanned, then you have to sign the copy. SLOW. read more
