To make a long story short and a short story long this was the very first time in my life I've ever had my face professionally cleansed. The experience was actually a gift from my mother-in-law (clearly she loves me and my pores) , Chara was super knowledgeable that I felt like I just obtained a master's degree in estheticianology (if that's even a thing!) She walked me through every step of the process, answered my questions, and made me feel comfortable the whole time. I don't think I've ever left a bad review. When I'm dissatisfied I simply choose not to patronize a business anymore. Recent experience, however, compels me to let anyone who is interested in this business to be very cautious. Don't be fooled by glowing reviews. I first took my daughter to see Cheryl last year and it wasn't a bad experience I was satisfied with the treatment. What I was not happy about was her passive agressive tone in how she knocks dermatologists and pushes her useless naturopathic products. The ridiculously expensive items I purchased simply did not work. And yes, we followed directions. It was time for another visit and we booked one online. We were planning to have the facial and extractions treatment but not buy any of the potions. After booking we received a call that the 1 hour facial we reserved was no longer offered and that they would change it to a 45-min option that would offer the same outcome. My wife shows up with my daughter (the client) and there was a bait and switch going on - we had Michelle... who seemed overworked by Cheryl. We specifically requested Cheryl and the booking receipt said Cheryl but she did not do the treatment. We were told she would be in there but she was not - except to tell us we're going to pay for LED light treatment after we specifically said we did not want that. "you're going to be charged $40 even if you don't get it..." Was her response. The entire treatment was rushed and lasted 20 min. Never once did Michelle assess my daughter's comfort. She was hurried and disinterested. What should have been a relaxing experience was traumatic. Furthermore it was unsanitary. After extractions on the face, she stuck the exposed needle into the bed. Perhaps the greatest concern I have - greater than the dishonesty and poor treatment was Cheryl's insensitive remarks out loud to my wife, with my 10 year old daughter present regarding futility of treatment as a result of genetics. However Today will be my last time visit them. I have never ever been treated like this in my life as a customer until today. The business owner had personal issue and completely took out on me. Her words were harsh and made me very uncomfortable, such as "What do you do for living", "we all should be responsible", etc. I defended myself and told her she shouldn't talk to me and treat me this way. She roughly took off my LED light equipment and the eye cover and grabbed my shoulder and yelled at my ear of what happened to her family that she had very bad day already and she can't handle more stress and I'm making it harder for her. I was so shocked and frightened by her at that moment because I didn't expect this at all. This is out of my consent. I don't know what the heck are her anger and behavior coming from towards me. The treatments are not cheap. I have spent thousands at her place for two years. I thought as a long term customer, we should have built a better relationship than what happened today. I was so shocked to be treated by the business owner like this. There are tons of ways to communicate with me but she chose the worst one. As a customer who used both of their old and new products, I advise you to do your homework before spending $$$$. The Face Reality acne program and products they used to use is ranked as #1 acne skin care and worked amazingly great. That's why I came back to them for two years and spent thousands with them. But the new one they are doing has been useless on my skin and caused more breakouts and severe dryness after almost 4 months of biweekly treatments and few bottles. I started going to Houston Acne Specialist in March of 2020. I was amazed by the results initially, which is why I give them 2 stars. Eventually I was in the maintenance phase for more than a year. My acne was cleared, but when I transitioned to the maintenance phase, my skin hit a plateau. That's not a surprise, if you're using the same products over and over again with no changes. I received a treatment and bought products every month, which would sometimes total up to $500. Throughout my time here as a client, I was made to feel like--specifically by the previous owner, that if I didn't use these products consistently or come in every month, then I would have major breakouts. The problem that I had with Houston Acne Specialists was the fact that I spent thousands of dollars in total, on a rigid regimen and on products that I could have been weaned off of. I had asked the new owner if we could tailor my regimen with the hopes that it would be more affordable and simple for me. Applying 10 products every morning and night was no longer cutting it, especially if I just had occasional break outs and my skin was dry. I'm not sure if she knew what I was asking, maybe there was a breakdown in communication--she said she didn't know anything about my regimen, but she swapped out 1 product with the hopes that would help. I just think it would have been the perfect opportunity for her to say, "let's have a re-consult and collaborate together to see what your skin truly needs". I just didn't feel prioritized as a client, and I think that was the last straw for me. So, I decided to transition to another Acne clinic (they use the same products that Houston Acne Specialists used during the early phases of my treatment, and I loved them!). This review is not meant to compare the two, but when I booked my consultation with the other acne clinic, the doctor was shocked by how many products I was on and how DRY my skin was. It was just too much. We immediately scaled back and I'm only applying 3 products on my face in the morning and 2-3 at night. It's no longer time-consuming or expensive. They also explained to me that it wasn't a necessity for my to receive treatments every single month. On a positive note, the staff at Houston Acne Specialists were always friendly and did their best to make you feel pampered. Also, I noticed the new owners have a stronger marketing presence. I cannot say enough great things about Cheryl and her level of expertise. She cured my son of his acne. The thing is, you have to do EXACTLY what she says for it to work. Now, my son being 16 and a bit unmotivated about his facial hygiene, probably made it take a bit longer, but she really worked with him and talked to him frankly and with respect and she kind of held him accountable in a mothering type way, that I couldn't have done on my own. We did do extra treatments but only because I wanted to speed the process along. She never ever pressured me to buy any of those extra treatments, I just felt it would be helpful and I'm certain that it did help speed up his recovery. All the products that she used on his face are very reasonably priced and they last--you won't constantly be buying new product--a little goes a long way. I can never have enough kind words for Cheryl. I am currently on my 4th LHR session with her and have been extremely satisfied every time I drop by her office. She takes really great care of her clients. She uses strict observance in making sure you are not burnt after a LHR session. I love how I can converse with her all the time - she is very personable. She also makes sure to ask, what is your goal for your skin? That way she can gauge what type of treatments are best for your needs. Her rates are extremely reasonable (ie 1 small area is free if you purchase sessions for 1 large area). She also provides flexible payment options. I greatly remember during Christmas she gave me a bag of goodies. She connects with her clients in a deeper level rather than just a business transaction. UPDATE : 2019 I just would like applaud Cheryl's team for the excellent back office customer service. I called the office earlier the week but no one picked up. I received a call back a day later from the office checking up on me and to see if they could help with anything . I thought this was very professional of them and thank you for taking the extra mile to take care of your patients . UPDATE: 2019 I am very happy for Cheryl that her practice has grown tremendously since 2 years ago when I first visited her. Still a strong team, however it is now lacking the personal attention that each patient deserves. i found Cheryl when I was completely desperate due to my severe acne break out that was out of control! Cheryl fitted me in immediately as she knew how desperate I was . She was so calming and professional with my treatment . On my first session with Cheryl she said the light therapy and gave me sincere advice . I followed her advice and came back to a second session during which she explained to me in detail about the cause of acne , the treatment plans. My face is looking better. But I am just getting started with my treatment plan and I am looking forward to get clear skin following the plan for 90 days. If the services is anything like how the owner treats her employees I wouldn't waste my time! An employee of hers texted her asking her if she knows when they will be reopening and if she needed to start looking for a new job. She basically says: "Hi XXXX, we currently are only allowed to see one client at a time for reopening per the guidelines we are currently following. We do not know what the status is as far as when that will change and when clients will want to start coming in again to justify having a full staff. We just do not know what else to tell you at this time, or when we will be able to do more so we completely understand if you need to look for another job." Then the owner proceeds to posted a video on IG of them reopening with a brand new employee. The idiots must have forgot that she was on Instagram and when she comments interesting they proceed to block her. Smh It's bad enough that people are dealing with jobs closing and not being paid but to just terminate someone without a reason and on top of that you don't let them know is not only unprofessional but illegal too.
