Houston DogWorks continues to be the best place for my dog. He is safe and happy in their care. The progression in his socialization is evident by many family and friends, and it is due to their structured programs.

Update: If you leave a bad review for Josh, be ready for him to repost it and call his friends to comment and leave reviews after yours (which is in his right just get ready.) You'll see in one of the comments they talk about suing me. Josh states I've been warned. The only thing that I have is after sending him the pictures attached to this review and asking what happened, he said I was harassing him. It's great that Josh has so many friends that believe in him. I'm sure he's a great dog trainer. I never said he wasn't. And I'm glad that his friends support him. He and I didn't click. I thought as long as he was a good trainer, that wouldn't matter. But it does. Below are my thoughts. I wrote what I thought was a fact based review. You can agree or disagree. Make your own conclusions. If you agree with me, then we all just save Josh some time so he doesn't have to deal with people like me anymore. If you agree with him, than you're one step closer in a solution for your dog and I'm happy about that. Josh didn't ask for any vet paperwork. My dog is current but there is no way for him to know that. I hope Josh proves me wrong... my consult included a 20 mins speech about his neighbor who left a bad review. And I'm sure now I'll be part of that speech. That's okay. Use it. Ask the questions I failed to ask. That's why reviews exist. https://www.facebook.com/HoustonDogWorks/posts/1616356398827849 _____ Took my dog for a 6 week board and train, a $5,000 program. There was no communication from the facility for 9 days. On day 9, I finally received my first update (after my 3rd text throughout 9 days). I was told my dog was "...explosive from the crate about dogs moving around in the same room...". I brought my dog in for training because he's reactive to other dogs. During my initial meeting, Josh said my dog would not get put in any situations he couldn't handle. He talks about this on his social media accounts as well. Yet after 24 hours, my dog was in a situation described by the trainer as Explosive. I immediately called to find out why my dog was put in a situation that could make him "explosive". I wanted to know what science was being used, what the rest of the training looked like so he wasn't put in a situation like this again and more specific information on what I would be doing when I get my dog back. Science: Josh rattled off something but I couldn't understand what he said so I still don't know what science he's using. Homework after board and train: Besides crate training, not allowing on furniture and keeping a tether on him at all times, that's all that was explained. I was told it wouldn't make sense until I picked up my dog. What doesn't make sense is how dog training is so secretive. I was trying to be proactive and learn during the 6 weeks my dog was going to be away and was told there was no possible way I would understand without Josh showing me after 6 weeks. Explosive: No explanation was given as to how they would avoid putting him in a situation that could make him explosive again. I pushed for answers and instead of getting anything additional, Josh just said he wasn't going to train my dog and I needed to pick him up. This entire conversation happened in 16 mins and 40 secs, and that includes making arrangements to pick up dog. When you're paying $5k, you get a message that your dog was explosive, 17 minutes doesn't seem unreasonable to try to get some answers. So just know that at any point during this training, if Josh doesn't agree with you, even in a situation he created, he'll just cancel you. My friend was able to pick up my dog the same day. Josh did provide a 100% refund. As soon as my dog got to my friend's house (just 10 mins from the facility) he was so thirsty he gulped down an entire bowl of water. I was on the phone with my friend and could hear him drinking vigorously. In addition, my dog has several wounds. When I sent the photos to Josh. He said my dog didn't have any wounds on him when he left and it must have happened at my friend's house. When I said the wounds were already scabbing over he then said that the wounds must have been there before the training. I'm not sure how it can be both of those answers. He says when he washed my dog there were no wounds but then somehow some of the wounds are from before my dog arrived? If you do decide to use Josh for board and train, I would take extensive photos and videos of your dog right before you go, and inspect him at the facility when you pick him up.

Josh is one of the top dog trainers in the country (and I have met dozens of them). He offers real results for obedient dogs both on and off leash in a no nonsense approach. I met Josh when I wanted help with my reactive rescue husky. Instead of offering a "quick fix", he offers long term solutions which teach you how to train your dog...Josh has helped give me the tools and coached me how to train my dogs to be both well behaved in the house, polite around other dogs, a pleasure to walk on a leash and off leash reliance. More importantly, he has taught me how to train and teach my dogs on my own when I need them to do something new. Definitely more of the "If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime" approach. I think where a lot of people seeking dog training go wrong is they want the fish for the day. They don't want to learn how to fish because that requires a lot of time and effort to get results. They get upset with the results they didn't get for the work they didn't put in and then blame the trainer. Josh has made his knowledge and coaching available to me whenever I've asked. We now compete in dog obedience because of how much I enjoy training my dogs.

I recently left him there for 5 nights while I was out of town, August 13 - 18, 2025. I picked him up and my dog is exhibiting fear based behaviors that include flinching, cowering and whining. I don't know what happened to him while under your care, I called to talk to someone on your staff, it was a male, hispanic. He didn't offer his title. He said he spoke to the staff but nothing out of the ordinary occurred that anyone could recall. I just now bent down to put on his leash and he flinched when I got near him. It breaks my heart that he's now acting this way. He is 11 years old and has never behaved this way. I just took him to the vet to get him examined and try to find out why he is acting this way. This dog never whines or is vocal. Please supervise your employees closely and make sure they are treating all of our animals with proper care. I don't have any proof that anything happened to my dog aside from his behavior after leaving the facility. I'm just stating my experience with my dog and your facility.

I, of course, reached out to let them know and they offered a 50% off coupon for the next grooming instead of a refund (lol). They also lied, said he had the infection and gashes before and I was notified of this (I wasn't). That's on top of the fact they made my other cocker spaniel look like she had an 80s mullet instead of giving her a proper cocker cut "crown". I would avoid putting your dog in pain by taking them here.

She goes every day and if we don't take her, she is not happy with us! We really love it. It's been so good for her confidence and exposure to more people. Everyone my dog encounters is like "omg he's so calm", "he's so lazy", "I wish my dog behaved like Archie". This report of his behavior was totally surprising. Also, they never called me to tell me he was ready- I had to call after 7 hours to find he had just been sitting there ready. Hair cuts have been hit or miss. Our dogs don't seem to mind going there, and they always look super clean and cute when finished. Hence the three stars - four for grooming services and price, two for.... ...the customer service that needs some work. When we first started taking our pups there, about a year ago, we had no problem dropping them off before work and picking them up at lunch. Not sure when this changed, but now their drop-off hours are between 8:30 and 10am. Ok, well most of America has to be at work by 8am so that makes no sense. The last time we went there the owner advised she would be there early and that we could drop off before 8 - great! I showed up at 7:45 and nobody was there. Waited til 8:15...still nobody. I took my dogs back home and went to work (late). I called to ask what happened...just got that there was a miscommunication and we weren't on the list after all (???). Was told they could squeeze them in on Saturday morning as a courtesy. Ok, fine. My husband dropped them off Saturday morning and they got groomed. They don't post their hours anywhere, and I feel like it's because they don't have official hours, they just work when they feel like working and close up shop when they don't (as you can see in other reviews as well). Not cool. So today I called and they don't have any availability, plus the dropoff time is stillll 8:30 (seriously, why so late?). I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to be a Puppy Chic customer, but they make it so difficult. I give up. Made an appointment at Yuppie Dog no problem. Puppy Chic undercuts (no pun intended) them on price but I'm willing to pay a bit more to go to a reliable establishment.

I have been to a few groomers and have never paid more than $50... the money is not the issue, it is the quality of service! I paid these people $64 ( well scratch that, they took $5 off after i complained because I was a new customer ) They are professional, I give them that......BUT my dog didn't smell like anything when I picked her up. Her anus and vulva has been red, irritated, and swollen since I picked her up 3 days ago ( doesn't seem to be getting better, it's gotten more red and now I have to go and purchase cream because she won't stop scratching and licking and she isn't acting like her hyper self) For the amount of money we pay for these services they should be top-notch.... not half assed... also, they left hair on my dogs chest and belly.. and cut hair that I told them not to.. The only reason I went here was because my original groomer was booked for a week and a half but I promise, next time I will be patient... just because you are in the heights does NOT mean you hike up your prices and give half assed cuts... Believe in Dog is the GOLD STANDARD of puppy training! I have enrolled my now 6 month old puppy…read moresince he was 4 months old in puppy 1 & 2 classes plus once a week puppy day school! The results have been nothing less than incredible. In puppy 1 they teach you how to work with your dog on basic skills and necessary everyday things like leash walking. The environment is fun & encouraging! They also have puppy play time so my timid little guy could get used to other dogs and become more social. Puppy 2 expands on that training and adds duration, distance and distractions and how to ween your puppy of treats while training. (Plus a few new tricks & skills.) The puppy day school is my dog's favorite day of his week! He can't wait to go and doesn't want to leave. To clarify, It is actually school not day care. Their ratio of dogs to trainer is approx: 3-1, and all day long they work on training as well as acclimating him to everyday life which includes: noises, different people, objects with wheels, obstacle courses, crate training, playtime, doggie pool time... etc etc. They even give you a report card at the end of the day and talk with you about it EVERYDAY at pick up. Stephanie & her amazing staff are super caring and has really bonded to my dog. I have never experienced anything but welcoming-happy your here attitudes, positive vibes, but most importantly it's a loving / nurturing environment for my dog! Every time I go to believe in dog it feels like a new adventure both for my dog and for me! Thank you Stephanie for what you have created here and thank you to Roxanna, Kate, Isabella, Joanna and the entire staff at BID - you are what makes this such a wonderful special place!

The team worked with her to develop confidence through socialization, communication and learning basic skills including enrichment activities to help us build and support a solid healthy positive relationship. While my previous GSPs went to "boot camps" and came back trained and were well loved (and spoiled), we did not develop the level of connection I have with Evey that has come through learning together following the program and doing the homework. I definitely recommend taking the supplemental classes they offer to help you as the handler learn, practice and hone the techniques. It truly makes a difference with your relationship with your dog.
