Dr. Panzer is amazing! My husband told him about his dry eye problems. Dr. Panzer also helped with two other previously undiagnosed issues resulting in much clearer vision (especially night vision) and health eyes!! The office is roomy, clean and comfortable to choose frames. I had a very negative experience at this Clinic due to the fact that Panzer (an "optometrist") misdiagnosed my Dry Eye as stemming from Meibomian Gland Disease. (What I learned by later seeing an "opthamologist" was that I actually had Blepharitis which was causing my Dry Eye.) Anyways, I wasted a LOT of money on Panzer's painful "IPL" treatments and $60 "testosterone" drops which either aggravated my eye condition or did nothing. There were other problematic issues that I encountered at his practice which I won't write about here but feel free to PM me for details. When it became clear that Panzer's methods were not working, I thankfully found a well regarded, experienced opthamologist here in Houston where I was thoroughly tested and received proper treatment, advice on an eyelid/lash cleaning regime, steroids, antibiotics, etc... Since seeing my new doctor and following his recommendations, my dry eye issues have drastically receded and I'm now 90% back to normal. Had been getting the run around from every optometrist and ophthalmologist in town and MONICA was freaking awesome. Just needed to get prescription lenses put into a new pair of Maui Jim sunglasses. Every other place I went to over a 4 hour odyssey through Houston gave me half facts and straight up lies. Nobody could do it with insurance without insurance or not on these frames or not with their lab etc etc. was getting really close to quitting and giving up. One call with Monica and she was confident and sure of what Panzer could provide. I showed up minutes later and she got me in and out and done in 15 minutes for a very reasonable price after properly using the benefits my insurance offered. Dr. Allen Panzer was knowledgeable, skilled, and experienced in his discipline. He made the visit less of the stale encounter you may have at most eye clinics and more of the family clinic feel where they emphasize getting you taken care of. He was patient with my indecisive nature when it comes to deciding the difference between one prescription lens strength and the other. When getting new frames he listened to the style of frames I already love and took note of the blue color from my last frames that I love and sought to find me a pair that represented both! He could not be a better doc. He listens explains option, costs and benefits and knows his stuff in every way. He was able to treat my dry eyes when no one else could. He also found a huge injury to my eye my "regular" doc dismissed. He showed me every picture and image he had and laid out options. It does not get any better than this. I recently relocated to Texas, after being diagnosed with Glaucoma and dry eye, I felt my sight getting worse my doctor at home told me I had Dry Eye, so when I got to Texas I googled Dry Eye Clinics and found Dr. Panzer. My left eye pressure was very high, he immediately found me a Doctor to go to for Surgery, put me on meds, checked on me all weekend, and again after my next appointment, and again after my 1st surgery and again after my second surgery. Discovering the Root Cause of Inflammation For almost over an decade I've visited multiple optometrist that could only treat uveitis or iritis but couldn't find a solution or provide resources for what was creating the continuous flare ups. Dr. Panzer was the first to take the time to research possible causes of painful flare ups, and provided resource information on immunologist and spine specialists to research the cause. Dr. Panzer was correct on his assessment and that inflammation usually come in pairs in which connected to the back pains that I was experiencing from Ankylosing Spondylitis. He also provided an one page examination diagnosis report explaining in detail about my eyes infliction and corrected my glasses prescription. I made an appointment on Monday for eye exam for Friday at noon. I told them my eye was bothering me so I needed that checked out. I asked them how long it took for an eye exam because I needed to leave in time to pick up my kids. They told me eye exams are usually 15-30 minutes. Now it's Friday, I get there at noon and wait in the reception area. I am the only customer there. First it takes them a while to even acknowledge I am there and they gave me paperwork which I returned completed after one minute. Then I sit and wait. 20 minutes go by and the receptionist doesn't say anything. I am still the only customer in their office. I asked how much longer it would be to get my eye exam. The receptionist tells me they had an emergency this morning and was backed up. I asked how much longer snd she couldn't tell me. I said I need to know because I can't wait an hour. She goes back to ask the doctor and comes back to tell me 20 minutes or it could be longer. I asked why they didn't call and notify customers if there's going to be 45 minute delay. Based on how slow they were and I was the only customer in their office the entire time (maybe the doctor was in with another customer), I did not have confidence they would be see me after 45 minutes so I left. Clearly their office is not busy and they failed to make any effort to be considerate to customer/patient's time. I will not be returning. read more

Dr. Allen Panzer has been a true blessing to me!!! I have severe Keratoconus (eye disease) I have literally been seeing doctors for one year and four months to get a contact for my eye. He is the only doctor that has truly cared about my fitting. Today he met me on his day off. I sent him a text with a pic attached. I showed him my eye and I was in pain. I really needed help. Within an hour and a half, I went to Houston to meet him at his office. We are still trying different options and I may need a corneal transplant eventually, but he's trying everything he can to help me. The reason for the negative review is echoed in many of the other reviews. I was sad to not have a good experience here after researching him on Angie's list. While I was at the visit, I felt very overpowered by Dr. Panzer's highly opinionated comments and when I asked questions I felt like I was being steered toward one direction. I would have appreciated if the pros and cons of the treatment were given equal weight and the decision for treatment was left up to me. Not only that, but I felt personally attacked as he made several negative comments about my profession. During my visit, he placed contacts into my eyes and when he came back to take them out, he had visible debris (white powder - possibly powdered sugar?) on his fingers and around his mouth and proceeded to use his fingers to take the contacts out. I was absolutely aghast. Bottom line, I think Dr. Panzer's positive reputation in the media and on Angie's list is probably warranted as he is knowledgeable about his practice. However, the delivery is just abysmal in my experience. The front desk, also, could be more helpful or at least offer a smile here and there. read more

Let me start off by stating that I work in a hospital. I know how to treat patients and I know how I like to be treated as a patient - with respect, kindness, and understanding. I had hoped to find a optometrist office that would offer me this, and it is what I found when I went to Dr. Panzer's office on Beechnut in the Meyerland area. I first came to Dr. Panzer over 20 years ago when my glasses broke while at work, and I needed help immediately. I found the help I needed then, and although I had been away for many years, returning to Dr. Panzer's office, I found the same level of commitment to service and care that I experienced in my first visit. He has friendly staff who offer a beverage while you are waiting to be served and the parking is free and plentiful (a little less so during lunch and dinner hours, as Fad's Mediterranean Restaurant is next door). Great Doctor. I have been struggling with Keracatonus and dry eye for years. I've seen more doctors all over the country than I can count. Most out there are under-equipped to deal with my issues and largely under-educated as well. Dr Panzer is SO experienced, and it shows immediately. He had the equipment and knowledge, and most of all patience, to confront my issues head on, not drag it out and milk both me and my insurance for hundreds of dollars unnecessarily. If you have unique issues, this is your guy!! BTW, he was a recommendation from Dr Oevermann in Cypress. Hats off to him as well, as he didn't BS me. He knew my issues were more than his expertise, which is pretty damn good as well, could handle and sent me to the RIGHT Dr. So rare to have the integrity to know when you should hand it off to someone more knowledgeable. read more

After walking by Dr. Panzer's office for a few years on my way to eat at Fadi's (next door), I finally made an appointment and got my eyes checked. Nice receptionist (offered me coffee and tea upon arrival and snacks at a later waiting time). Got to look at an image of the inside of my eye which was pretty impressive. Luckily, I don't have any major issues with my vision, and Dr. Panzer listened to and addressed all of my concerns/questions. I even got a brief tutorial on different types of eyes and how my "blonde" eye correlates to my fair skin (I asked). He is a very nice Dr., personable, knowledgeable and actually spends time caring for his patients. I'd recommend him to family and friends. read more

I have had 3 doctors in the last 5 years for my yearly eye exams. I finally found a doctor that was patient and very experienced who solved my problem. I have been using the wrong contacts, and could not get fitted correctly. Dr. Panzer took the time and care, and I left his office extremely pleased with my new multi focal contact lenses. I had almost given up! His assistant Rachel was very attentive and friendly. I was offered something to drink and the office is spacious and has all of the latest technology for a complete eye exam. The reason I am giving him such a low review is because I am basing my experience from the entire experience and not just the initial eye exam experience. Specifically, him and members of his staff's attitudes coupled with lack of convenience/extra help that doctors SHOULD offer their patients was what ruined the whole experience for me. The eye exam went as standard as most eye exams went. Dr. Panzer did use a high-tech scanner instead of using the standard dilution-can't-see-anything-close-for-a-few-hours method which was probably the only non-standard thing about the eye exam. Also he diagnosed me with astigmatism that other ophthalmologists had missed and made me think I had severe astigmatism. However after returning to other eye doctors after my extremely rude encounter with him later on, I discovered that my "astigmatism" was only really very slight and that I could have opted for the cheaper, more common contacts without astigmatism (obtaining these scarce dailies astigmatism contacts was what caused our whole rude/angry/stressful debacle in the first place). Not sure if he's just an aggressive-treatment approach type eye doc, but I wish I was given the option as a patient to choose which treatment to go with at the time. Even worse, the staff is mostly rude and could use a 101 class on bedside manners and/or customer service. They were rude to me on more than one occasion, which invalidates the excuse of someone just having a bad day. As a past patient I felt they were unwilling to go out of their way to help existing patients and treated me as if I was a stranger walking in and asking for unreasonable favors. I will not be going here anymore for the sake of lack of convenience and helpfulness. I read through all the filtered positive reviews, and it seems that Dr. Panzer is helpful in those scenarios, but my experience with this office does not match the positive reviews at all. read more

Please do not waste your time or your money. The negative review are correct anyone who has written a positive review was probably asked so by Dr. Panzer himself. Aside from the one nice receptionist Rachel who is awsome. I have found that Dr. Panzer himself does not treat his paitents very nicely. I had an emergency where i needed an emergency contact. When I went to the office I was told that I had a bill. I was TRYING to be polite because I knew this to be a mistake on Dr. Panzers part since my insurance covers my contacts. I told them I would call my insurance company and find out what went wrong. They told me that I needed to pay my bill in order to get the emergency contact. ThatS when i explained to them how they had billed me incorrectly. Short story go to another optometrist!! Besides that I was told on several different times by Dr. Panzer himself to lose weight. HE TOLD ME I needed to lose weight if I ever wanted to further my career. PLEASE GO TO ANOTHER CLINIC!!! IF YOU WANT TO BE BILLED WRONG AND IF YOU WANT TO PAY SOMEONE TO INSULT YOU THEN GO TO DR. As an update I had asked that my records be transferred to another local provider as I had some unique issues. Despite multiple requests he has refused to send these records. A year ago I went there with high expectations to find out that Dr Allan does not have experience with contact lenses after a PRK surgery. He tried to put me in the newest soft contact lenses which surprised me since soft lenses never worked for me. He seems frustrated when he realized that it didn't work at all. I felt uncomfortable with his attitude and decided to moved on after paying the $429 and the only thing I got was a prescription for glasses. I finally found The Diagnostic Eye Center, which is an office with great doctors that were able to put me in the right contact lenses and my vision improved to almost 20-20. read more

Dr. Panzer is a miracle worker. I have been wearing contact lenses for over 15 years and all of a sudden started having problems were i couldn't even wear them for more than a few hours. My old optometrist tried countless different contacts to no avail. I am so grateful that i found doctor Panzer. He gave me some eye drops and changed the base curve and prescription on my lenses and like magic i can wear them from dawn till dusk, no problems. His facility modern, his staff is more like a first class airline in terms of service, and he is very knowledgeable explaining at depth what he thinks the problem is. 15 yrs of being a customer must not be enough to ask this doctor for one simple favor. I needed one emergency trial pair of contacts and failed me. Along with the poor customer service his staff gives you comes the in necessary charged he bills you OR insurance company. I guess it his way of paying for those machines. Going in for a simple exam thinking it will cost you a $20 copay will actually set you back $100+. The fact is that this place is no longer your neighborhood eye doctor. Having my bill for a simple eye exam jacked with these additional fees and the rude way he handled my order of the Lindberg Air frames made me swear off ever going there again.
