I would never buy anything else here ever again and I would never recommend this place to anyone. Not even my worst enemy. My husband designed and bought our engagement ring here in 2017. The attitudes we get everytime we're here is astonishing. Especially from Gigi - who was the original sales person. It's ridiculous. Everytime we've come in since original purchase is we're told there was no original purchase even though the original sales person remembers. Their system can't find the order. Then can magically find some details under my name which makes no sense because it was a surprise engagement. My ring got resized recently (my husband was told at sales time lifetime resizing - but they declined this and advised it was full price. They eventually wavered and gave it to us at no cost which I did appreciate) and I realized after a few days I picked it up that there was a massive gap on one side that I hand noticed before. So I brought it back in. Of course I get an attitude about it. The First lady told me that it was my fault there was a chip on it. Then she took it to the jeweler who stated he's NEVER touched my ring ever in his life. Again, we bought it here, have had it resized once before this resuzing and then it had been resized a week prior to this interaction. Long story short - Mary (who is the most helpful person in this store) said she would take care of it. Would be completely redone. They called us and let us know it was completed. All better. I go in and it's almost exactly the same. Barely any different at all. They take us back to the jeweler who tells us that it's the head is crooked and the only way to resolve would be to get a whole new head. At their expense. Great, let's get this taken care of. I even at this point offered another solution where we would take on some of the cost and maybe upgrade the ring. We were told we would get a quote by the end of the day. We left again and less than 2-3 hours later we get a text with a video sayings it's completely fixed and resolved and we can come pick up the ring. No quote. Here we are again, at the store right now and it's still imperfect which I'm just at this point going to settle for because I'm so massively over this place and the customer service we've received. I will never stop by this place again. I needed a couple of watch batteries. There were three people working. It took forever to just even be acknowledged by one of them. He was busy with another customer but seemed to try a little. He asked me to fill out a slip of paper. Then I waited and waited. I was so frustrated when a woman walked in well after me and one of the men rushed over to her asking how he could help her like I wasn't even standing there waiting all that time. So I walked out. I went to Houston Jewelry to see if they would be interested in buying a gold presidential rolex I had been given a long time ago. As a handicapped person, they have no handicapped parking spaces nor handicapped access. I had to park in the middle of the parking lot and use another handicapped access to the building. When I mentioned no handicapped access to one of the employees, they told me to tell the landlord and could care less. Before they would even evaluate the watch, I had to give them my id, phone number and they took a picture of both with the watch before even talking to me. Then an employee told me it was required by law by some mysterious "precious metals" statute and could not provide me with the statute nor any reference. I had been to three other jewelry stores that morning and none of them required that. I decided not to even consider doing business with them and requested my photo copy of my id and watch back and was refused by the same employee that told me the undisclosed law made them keep it for 11 days. From start to finish, my experience with getting jewelry here has been trying to say the least. We were hesitant to go there to get custom jewelry done because we always see the "We Buy Gold" and so didn't get the impression it was a quality operation, but we went to check it out anyway (it's so close to our house.) We converted my grandmother's anniversary ring into a wedding band and pendant and got a good price for the pieces but, all in all, the experience was maybe not worth the savings because of the quality of service we received. I always felt a little spoken down to and frankly I just don't know that I ever developed trust, which when you give over money and diamonds, you want to feel confident that the people you are dealing with are trustworthy individuals. My fiance came in to speak with the sales team and the jeweler then we came together a few days later and spoke to the same people and they didn't remember him at all so we had to go through the whole song & dance all over again. Then, when I was sized the salesperson was adamant that I was getting the wrong size and went so far as to begin trying to rip my engagement ring off to show me that it could fall off. I was also a little concerned that they couldn't give us a straight answer on what quality diamonds they thought my grandmother's were (seems like if you buy jewelry from people off the street, you would have an eye for that) in order for them to match them with other, similar quality stones. The end of the sales experience didn't get any better (when they got the band in, they forgot my ring size) though at the end of the day, the quality of work was very good. read more

Horrible customer service, I was quoted a price for some jewelry I was selling, I told them I would very likely be back shortly, I wanted to see if I could get a better price at a few other shops. I walk back in an hour later, and the gentleman who had tested the items, and quoted me a price was gone, the woman that waited on me said she would have to start over, though she spoke to the gentleman over the phone. She proceeds to degrade my pieces, and tells me the original quote was now null and void- she said my pieces were not the karat weight the first associate had determined and that she would not honor his findings or quote. Needless to say, I walked out and proceeded to Wright's Jewelry and Loan, where I had received the same quote- I got the same amount of money that both had once quoted me. You can count Shaw's Jewelry and loan as well- they gave the same 1K quote also- So, apparently two other highly, reputable establishments don't know as much as the pompous woman who acts like the boss of Houston Jewelry. Scam Alert: I attempted to purchase an engagement ring, and I was scammed. First, I was told the ring was $4,000, but if purchased the same day, I could get it for $3,000. The ring was a 1 karat diamond ring. I put $700 down the same day. One week later I found a 2 karat diamond ring from a different jeweler for less. I called the store to cancel my order, but I was told all sales are Final (no refund.) they offered a store credit which must be used within 30 days. I visited the store to pick out something for $700, but there's nothing in the store worth having for $700. The sales associate checked the system and there was no trace of my $700. I was told I NEVER paid, until I pulled out my receipts. They then acknowledged I did pay, but still refused to give me my money back. All I am asking for is a refund. read more

Houston Jewelry redesigned and rebuilt my mother's wedding set in 2011. At the time the service was OK, it took about a week longer than promised but the ring looked good when finished. One year later one of the diamonds fell out of it's setting. I took it up there for repair and was told they would get back to me with an estimate. I was surprised and asked why this wasn't under warranty and was told that if it had 'maybe' happened within a month but that they couldn't guarantee their work for a whole year (although the original setting lasted 30 yrs)...and then the salesman had the audacity to say that jewelry was like a car and that 'things could go wrong'. Do not go here, they do shoddy work which they will not stand behind on for more than 'maybe' a month. read more

Not a good experience at all! I visited this business because I was interested in seeing what I could get for a bunch of old jewelry that is no longer my style. I found the business online, and after seeing their clip of a news story that was done on the business, I decided to pay them a visit. I had a bunch of no name jewelry, and a couple of Designer Scott Kay bracelets that I currently still wear, just to see what they would value them at. During my initial conversation with Richard I let him know my intention of getting rid of my old jewelry, and getting a price on my 2 bracelets just for kicks. I didn't really want to sell them, but... if the price was right I would think about it. After all the other jewelry was tested and weighed, Richard, said he had to talk to his manager about my 2 designer Bracelets for a price. When the manger Jeff came out of his office his tone and demeanor was immediately RUDE. He made me an offer on the bracelets that wasn't even close to 1/4 of what I payed for them!!! I politely declined his offer and after picking my mouth off the floor, told him that I didn't really want to sell them anyways I just wanted to see what I could get for them (as I already told Richard). He then shouted across the counter "well what did you think you Would get for them?" I told him at least more than below 1/4 of what I payed for them. He than said I must be crazy if i think I'm going to get more than what he offers me, and I have to sell them TODAY, if I wanted the nominal price he offered. I told him that I wasn't in any rush to sell them, I didn't really want to sell then in the first place (AGAIN), the other jewelry I brought in is really what I wanted to get rid of. He than starts to explain that the price he offers me is the market value for scrap jewelry and blah blah blah. Also that it doesn't matter that their are designer pieces...Meanwhile raising his voice, becoming more RUDE, and talking down to me, like I have no idea about jewelry. I explained to him that "I understand what you are saying, its your delivery that I don't like". He then stormed off. After that extremely unprofessional experience, Richard then approached me and told me just forget about what happened with Jeff, he would still like to purchase the other jewelry I brought in. I told him that I wast interested in doing ANY business with them after encountering Jeff... I'm done. He than starts to explain to me that Jeff is hard of hearing and thats why he talks like that. I live nearby so I stopped in a couple of years ago to purchase a bracelet and was pleased. Recently, I had a ring I wanted to size and update the setting. The salesman recommended some additional diamonds and I agreed. The first time I was called and went in to the store and I was told they could not update the setting. One person said could not "find the parts". The next salesperson recommended just smooth out the gold band (it is 3 rings of gold stuck together) and don't change anything about the setting. That was not what I had in mind but I agreed. When I was called to pick up the ring the first thing I noticed was the ring looked exactly the same. The band did not look like it had been smoothed out. The salesperson said "that is all they could smooth it out". I tried to put the ring on and it had not been sized because it was too small to fit any of the middle three fingers on my right hand. At that point I just wanted to take the ring and get out of there. I was told "the work" would cost $450! There was some attempt by someone who was apparently one of the repair people to say he would do something but he was not too clear about what he would do. At the same time I took a necklace I had bought elsewhere and I asked for it to be shortened so that the central stone fell at the notch in my neck. I put the necklace on and demonstrated exactly where I wanted it. The salesperson did not measure but said "it looks like 14 inches". When I was called to go pick it up I tried it on and it looked like it had not been shortened at all. There was a different salesperson helping me so I showed them exactly where I wanted it and offered that they could measure my neck. I was told "it just needs 2 inches less". The second time I was told to pick it up I tried it on and it still did not appear to have been shortened. After speaking with the manager she charged me $24.00 to basically get my things and get out of there since no work was done as far as I could tell. There is no aspect of friendliness, joy or camaraderie among the employees. Shopping for jewelry should be a fun, happy experience. I will research out where to take my business and not go to this business because it is the closest. read more

A few months ago I brought in a stone to get an idea on what kind of setting would best fit my mystic topaz. A gentleman by the name of IRA found the perfect setting that best enhanced the topaz. I recently lost quite a bit weight and I took it in on Thursday to get sized down. Since I got the setting recently they didn't charge me to size it and was done by then end of the day. Sold Gold I went to Houston Gold Exchange and Houston Numismatic to get prices to sell my gold. It was broken chains, earings where I lost one and stuff like that. Houston Gold Exchange wasn't friendly and offered me $300 exactly. Houston Numismatic was very friendly and offered me $447.00. I almost gave it to them but decided to go to one more place since there was such a difference between the two. I had seen Houston Jewelry's ad in the paper so I went there. The man there looked at each piece and told me that I had some 18 carat and some 14k carats. He explained to me how they buy. Then he offered $503.00 I couldn't believe it. I sold them the gold. Houston Jewelry has lots of inventory. However, the most valuable jewel in that store is Lily. From the moment I walked in she treated me like her own son. She is always available and never promised something she could not deliver. Lily is very easy/flexible to work with and provided me her personal cellphone number to reach her directly with questions and/or concerns. On one occasion she waited until I finished work and stayed long after the store's closing time; helping me design the perfect ring! She even came in on her day off to accommodate me and contacted me throughout her vacation out of state. Frankly she was one of the biggest reasons I took my business to Houston Jewelry. I was on the verge of pulling the trigger and purchasing a diamond ring from another source, and she was the sole reason I did not. I must add that all employees were super nice and friendly. And Rex was extremely knowledgeable, welcoming, and accommodating. I shopped for the perfect engagement ring in many stores and online. However, the price and quality I was offered by Houston Jewelry could not be matched ANYWHERE!! In addition, they have bunch of Better Business Bureau awards and stand behind their products. I called this store because I have gold and silver to sell. I saw their ad online and wanted to get their "buy" prices, so I could compare their prices to others. The first person I talked to on the phone was very confused and started to quote prices that didn't make sense.Then he stopped when I pointed that out and said "Let me get you a manager". After a long wait, a lady came on the line and I asked her what their buy prices were for various karats of gold and various types of silver. I was very surprised to be told that she couldn't give me any prices because the owner of the business doesn't allow them to do so.She said I would have to come in to the store. I called them because their ad states that they give the very best prices. How can I know that if they won't tell me what they are? I'm supposed to spend my time and money to go there and perhaps find out that their prices are NOT the best? Perhaps they are hoping that once there, I would just say "Oh well, I'm already here.I might as well sell even if the price is lower." No thanks.
