I was apprehensive about going to a pawn shop. Never went before and only saw them in the movies. The outside was a bit ominous. Painted off white, no cars parked outside; in a shady looking strip center in a part of town that has strip clubs and police activity. All that said, it was GREAT! Friendly, helpful and not at all frightening folks! Fair deals and honest assessments. I was pleasantly surprised and quite happy with the whole experience. Wasted my time driving all the way over there! My daughter and I brought in our LV purses. They would not even consider her small purse due to "worn out hardware" even though they have 5 of the exact same purse on the table with the exact same "worn out hardware". Maybe because they can't sell the ones they have now. But just say that instead of acting like the purse is so worn out! My purse they tried to say had a lot of ware and tear and only offered $300. I can not say enough about the pleasant service I received today from James at Wright Pawn & Jewelry. I was looking for a reputable place to take an antique watch I inherited from my father that I no longer wished to wear. A beautiful sold gold watch with gold band so I knew it had some value and did not want to be ripped off. I came into the brightly lit showroom which looked like a high end jewelry store and furnishing gallery. They had everything from fine watches and jewelry to bags and purses as well as tea sets, Chinese art pieces and many other fine things. As their website says, they are a pawn shop but they don't have guns, tools or electronics! By the way, the storefront is very subdued, you would hardly know what is inside before entering. And the parking lot also made me feel safe as it was closed off from the other parts of the lot. After I was buzzed in, I met James at the counter, what a nice gentleman he was. I explained that I had inherited my father's gold watch and had a recent watch appraisal and that I hardly ever dressed up enough to warrant wearing this nice watch. James looked at the watch and remarked at what a beautiful watch it was. He examined it and weighed it and estimated the weight of the movement which of course is not gold. He told me in the nicest way that while it was a lovely watch that the style was a bit dated for what many men like now. He said, at best they could give me the scrap value which I sort of expected. Afterall a watch style is a very personal thing and they have to take into account if they will be able to sell what they buy at a profit. I had no problem with that. He also suggested I consider waiting as gold has been going up in value. I was grateful he wasn't trying to rush me or pressure me into taking less for it. I also appreciated that he took the time to talk to me and not brush me off. In the end I thanked him for his time and left as I agreed that I might do better waiting or just thinking about it before I come back. Selling a family item is not something you want to go into in haste. read more

After communicating with the sales person, Connie and the gemologist that we were on our way and driving an hour and a half to their location to purchase a very expensive wedding ring. We answer the establishment and are told immediately that the ring was sold to another party. This was very upsetting and ruined our entire experience. I believe the reason why I'm leaving is that I decided to call and ask if they had gotten us confused with someone else, and if the Ring was still available. The associate that answered the phone was rude and basically told the gemologist that we were not going to shut up about this. I do give her credit (Gemologist) for trying to apologize, but this is no way to treat people. We Do not recommend this establishment. My wife is very upset. All with pleasurable experiences- people please understand these folks are in the business of making a profit as all businesses are just like LV, Prada, Rolex, Cartier etc. if you only knew how much it costs to make a LV bag you wouldn't be happy. With All that said Wright pawn provides an avenue for some to put high end items on lay a away unlike the high end stores so prices for purchasing & selling coincide for how long these items are items are going to sit on the shelf or that go into lay a away which folks in these kind of businesses take the most risk to make their money back. Yes your personalized LV bag you paid $3k may not sell to anybody else because they don't like it. If you feel something is too expensive you can negotiate or if you feel they're not giving you what you want for an item then just go somewhere else. Super snooty place. This is not a pawn shop, it is a resale place for high dollar snooty nose in the air people. I was treated like a total piece of crap, I was going to pawn shops along Westheimer and unfortunately stopped in this place. I was looking for electronic items and you would have thought I asked the guy if they sold dog shit in a paper bag.Never again. Big fancy 5 star ratings? When I shower them my brand new YSL clutch putse that I bought a few months ago for $2900 they took it to the back and took forever to bring it back just to tell me that they could offer me $300 max. Probably the nicest business you'll ever enter that has "pawn" on the sign. Upon entering you'll find a huge selection of jewelry, watches, handbags, and art objects. NO CRAP here, a refreshing change and I wish someone would take the hint in Austin and create something similar. I browsed the high end watches while the wife carefully inspected each jewelry case. I found a nice Tissot PR200, but ended up with a better deal at another shop. The one gentleman I dealt with had a vast knowledge of the watches they had on hand. You could drive just down the street to the Galleria and buy most of their inventory spending hundreds possibly thousands more; I'll take the savings here anyday. Wright Pawn is a fantastic place for high end gifts at a discount. This is not your run of the mill old guitar amplifiers and lawn mowers kind of pawn shop. Because of their proximity to the Memorial Villages, they've been collecting the finer things from down on their luck folks in the area for years and selling them to their customers at a great discount. In the past I've found Tiffany vases, Waterford bowls, Lalique figurines, and many other great last minute gifts in a pinch. Prices aren't set with the sticker and the people behind the counter are usually willing to walk the price point down to a "best price". Customer service has always been fantastic from my perspective as a consumer, and I would assume it would be similarly positive if you were in need of pawning an item or selling one. During Christmas they have complimentary Christmas wrapping which was a nice surprise on our last visit. Looking for something fancy but not feeling so fancy in the wallet? Honestly, this place is such a scam and really ghetto. Not to mention dirty. Don't bring in your designer items and let it go out of sight because they will damage your property and say that you brought it in that condition. As others have noted, there seems to be a racial bias here. If you're white and look rich, they'll work with you. Good luck trying to sell your items though! I won't be coming back. I had two or three items to view for possible a possible pawn/loan and I went close to home and started with Wright Pawn + Jewelry on Westheimer Road. The very first thing you notice is of course the cleanliness and un-pawnshop like appearance of the building and then the security to actually enter - pretty impressive. This high end feel made me think right off the start 1) a classy place and 2) probably not going to work with me on my items of a watch, a silver necklace and a white gold box chain necklace. I spoke immediately with a very well spoken, very classy traditional seeming Texan lady (kinda like a descendent of Lady Bird Johnson) who actually was maybe the owner of the place and she nicely confirmed with me that she didn't work with silver even though what I had was great, my gold was not weighted quite enough to be of any interest and the watch was not a brand they actually took in (Tag Heuer). She was as nice as could be, as genuine and as classy as could be and didn't make me feel like white trash for coming in and checking either. She then very graciously offered that I take a look around and see if there might be anything that I was interested in and pointed me to the Rolex watch case they have and it was all displayed super nice and honestly, I can say it was my best pawn shop experience ever - and we didn't even conduct any business! Extremely Impressed. Needless to say, if the day ever came where I was in the market for something pretty high end that I thought I could get there I would run right up there and see that extremely warm and nice lady who owns the place. A perfect experience and a perfect personality for the colorful business of pawn shops and I think that would be a hell of a good reality show with her as the star. :) Thanks for the kid gloves telling me you weren't interested and keep it up because I will come back for sure sometime soon. Great experience! Not your typical pawn shop but more of an upscale boutique with the prices to match~ but the good news is, they're willing to negotiate and give discounts. While I'd think twice about trying to sell my family heirlooms, as a retail outlet they have EX stock. I had my eye on a beautiful piece that had sat there for a while~ not only did they hold it for me in good faith, they came down so much that I finally splurged.
