Imagine being with this kinda hair like Howard did for me. I was looking to make a simple haircut on the same day and found this salon. They have taken me on short notice, and Howard was doing my hair. When he told me that he's done, I found two bald spots on my left side. I ask him to fix this somehow and that is what he did, you can see in the pictures. I was preparing for a big party and just wanted to strengthen my hair. So I have long hair but when I cut it I feel like it's not long anymore so I HATE getting my hair cuts bc I find stylists tend to be scissor happy and cut way more than what I ask fI have always left upset with my haircut because they never seem to listen and cut my long hair too much but this was the first time I was so happy with my haircut and left with a smile on my face! Javier was the best!! Gave me beautiful long layers, left my length long but trimmed the right amount where I'm still happy with the length and look of my hair. His price was also good! He spent his time in my hair which I appreciate and love!! He didn't rush with my cut and I'm everyone grateful I was reffered to him. I can't reccomend him enough!! Her passion for styling hair has really made her stand out and I have had the pleasure to watch her grow more and more successful. I went to have my long hair trimmed by hair stylist, Julie Ann. I explicitly told her that I wanted less than a half inch trimmed from my hair. To my horror, she cut more than 4 inches off my hair. I was devestated!!!! She assumed I would continue to use her as my hair stylist by booking another appointment. I will never go back to that salon!!!!! She chopped my hair off!!!! My long hair is very important to my identity. I am feeling miserable. I will never let Julie Ann cur my hair again!!!!!! I am very unhappy!!!! I hope she realizes how upset I am. read more

I needed an updo for a fancy event, red carpet, blah, blah so I decided to yelp and so I found this cool place 5 minutes from where I leave. How cool is that, I said to myself, for this affair to work out, have a fantastic updo and be home in no time? Guess what??? It all worked pretty amazingly. I've seen Patty and she did not only an incredible job at a reasonable price but also the styling lasted long after I came back home from the event ( more than 12 hours). This review is for Julieann, I arrived with there for an appointment with my hair never having been in a healthier state. I finally was learning how to embrace my thick curly hair in it's natural state. For months, I was not applying heat and just letting it air dry. I finally made an appointment that was way past due because of the pandemic and I asked for color, and highlights, and a cut from Juliann who had been doing my hair for about a year. She had done the highlights about one year before and they had turned out nice the first time. She destroyed my hair in one fowl swoop. I was devastated. I have bald stripes all over my hair line where my hair fell out from my head. My hair just melted from the bleach she put on my hair, and then she put heat on the foils, because she said she was tired and hungry and needed to leave. She called this treatment her "face framing" highlights. I probably need extensions, but I want to see if it grows back or if she damaged my follicles permanently. When I called the salon to let them know what happened she claimed to have been having an "off day." I've never experienced hair loss like this before in my entire life; it's devastating. I met with Howard a few days later to show him what happened and he offered me a bottle of conditioner! If I could have given them negative stars I would have. Shawna had a unique yet effective approach and did an excellent job with taming my curly hair. After she used the round brush to blowout each section of hair she then wrapped the hair around "brushlike" rollers that allowed the hair to set and give it just the right amount of body/wave with a little bit of curl. She also used KMS anti-humidity spray to prevent my curls from frizzing up when I was going to head to the beach! Nicely done. I have gone to at least half a dozen stylists there over the years based on my changing needs, and have had my make up done by Gina for my wedding and photo shoots. Like at any salon, these stylists all have different specialties. That said, I have had great experiences with all of them, and they have come to feel like family. This past week, I was BEYOND impressed with more than their talented staff, more than the warmth and care of the service, more than the ease of the parking, the fair prices, the fantastic brow waxing and make-up by Gina, and the beautiful blow-outs and color by Shawna. What I I was impressed with was the way the staff handled the way one, very unkind, client treated another client (me). The salon gave me their unwavering support and in the end the other client was asked not to return to the salon. It's not every day people are willing to speak up for others and do what is right at the risk of losing business. This review is for eyelash extensions by Alivia. I really like the way she does extensions! I like my lashes to look more dramatic and long, with longer outer corners and she does them perfectly. Some other places that I've been to try and talk you into doing a really natural look but I'm not into that. I know Alivia can do natural looking lashes but I always get longer ones. She has a wide variety of lashes to chose from so you can get whatever look you want. Including my look, which I call, "totally, obviously fake and proud of it." Alivia is so gentle. I'm not naming names, but I've been places where they were so rough on my eyes I was in pain the entire time and my eyes watered for the entire procedure! Hey - if you see the person who is about to spend 1-2 hours with sharp instruments near your eyes drinking a red bull, run! You will never have to worry about that with Alivia, she has never hurt me. And she has very steady hands. Getting lashes takes about 2 hours. I've noticed Alivia really puts way more lashes on so it takes longer than you might expect. And she takes the time to make sure each lash is separated from it's neighbors so your eye lashes don't fall out in clumps. But don't worry, the bed you will be laying on is really comfortable! And you can ask to get up and stretch any time. I usually ask to put eye drops in at least once. Honestly, I usually fall asleep for half of it. The entire salon can probably hear me snoring. If you have any reservations about getting your eyelash extensions don't worry, I've had mine for over a year and they are amazing. read more

I'm already having to book Debora nearly 6-8 weeks in advance to make sure I keep up regular color appointments. What to do? What to do? Oh f*** it. I must use my powers for good... Debora is the hippest colorist in the world! She knows her chemicals man, and no one can beat her cuts. She's the best kept secret in Los Angeles and you won't pay $300 -- at least I never have, even for foils and a cut. Gina and Kimberly do brows and make-up in the front of the shop and sometimes I can call same day and squeeze in...but that was when I lived around the corner. Sniff. Sniff. Anyway, the most PERFECT brow shaping you will find anywhere! I've occasionally in the last 10 or so years that I've been Gina's client had to go elsewhere because I was travelling or away from the area and had an eyebrow emergency or something -- YOU know how it is -- and have always been disappointed whenever I've had to go to someone else. NOBODY gets them exactly right, like Gina. I constant get compliments on my brows. Dana has the "Honey Suite" at the back of the salon for all your waxing needs. Dana is awesome. If you ever tried to make an appointment at Pink Cheeks, you know they're really good at taking appointments, not so good at honoring them. Trust me ladies, if you're sick of the ridiculous half-hour to hour wait for Cindy at Pink Cheeks, go to Dana. She'll always get you in within a reasonable (5-10 minutes at worst) amount of time around your appointment time. read more

Great haircut today from Julie Ann. I'm pretty picky about my short hair, and she was willing to listen and make changes until I was happy with it! The only snafu was that someone forgot to write my appointment down on the hair stylist's personal schedule card, so she wasn't expecting me and I sat at the front waiting for about 15-20 min, but once she realized the mistake she was very apologetic, and I didn't feel that my appointment was rushed at all as a result. Back to Nikki I will go... I tried another hairdresser because of a Groupon deal and, while she did a nice job (especially for the price), I really missed Nikki's precision (read OCD perfectionist). My daughter has very long straight hair which means she has to have a good cut because every imperfection shows. He checked my hair, brought out different options, offered his opinion and his care. His very wonderful colorist applied the color after he personally mixed the colors we decided would be best. Okay so as I was sitting there getting my hair done...my happiness and confidence in my choice to come to this salon was going up and up and up. I seem to keep having bad experiences with hair salons in sherman oaks. I search yelp, find highly reviewed hair stylists, I love their work, and then they lie about their prices and it ends up 250-280 instead of what they told me on the phone: 130-150. I thought I had found a great hair stylists last time; she did beautiful color and I left there happy twice. First time with a big coupon so I didn't notice the full price. The second time, loved my color again but she chopped my bangs off similar to how a 6 year old with a pair of scissors would, then charged me 280. So....frustrated...I let my hair go for a few months and searched for a new hair stylists. Found Ashley! Looked through the pictures here on yelp and she did beautiful color in them all. I called to book an appointment. She likes to do consultations first which I actually liked. I got to tell her what I wanted, she told me what she recommended, and she told me her prices. When I told her about past experiences, she was so nice about it and assured me she would help fix my hair and would be up front about prices. Seriously--all I want. Went in yesterday. Loved her! And the girl next to her, I think her name was Shannon. First of all, what a good atmosphere. The clients that were coming in seemed to love their stylists, and the stylists seemed to really get along. I loved that. But to what's more important -- my hair!! Beautiful color, she did exactly what I wanted. She recommended products, didn't push them. And thank God, she fixed my bang situation. Even she was baffled that someone would cut such a huge chunk out of my hair. It's not perfect, but only because the way it was cut before. This review is LONG overdue.. I came here a little over a year ago in June. I came here for my first color ever. I have brown hair and wanted blonde highlights. I saw Ashley and it was as if no one had ever asked for highlights before. I was at the salon for 6 HOURS for just a color! I had no idea it took that long, but didn't know any different since it was my first time! The finished product was all over ORANGE fried hair:( it was horrible.. I called the next day explaining my frustration to the receptionist but asked her to please not tell my stylist because I didn't want to hurt her feelings (I'm too nice!).. So what does she do? She hands the phone to Ashley! I was so frustrated because I did NOT want to go back to her. I spent over $200 on the color and it makes me sick to this day knowing that I did. I am STILL trying to recover my hair and fix the damage that was done by her! So sad. Don't go here if u love your hair!!!!! **another red flag is that the owner never comments back to fix the issue with clients that have had bad experiences here.. You wouldn't think much of it from the outside. The salon is located in a mini mall settled among a jeweler and an old cafe but never judge a book by its cover. Inside the staff is incredibly friendly, even the owner and head stylist Howard stops to say hello! Get a style, a cut or even your make-up done. As far as I'm concerned, for anything having to do with hair, there's no one finer than Shawna. Last time I saw her she was sporting a short, blond mohawk and she's truly a miracle worker. From salvaging my hair from a wicked former stylist with a razor blade to my Audrey Hepburn up-do for my 30th birthday, she's a wizardess with the scissors. This is the first review I've ever written on Yelp and I'm hesitant to do it now. I called this salon after reading all the great reviews about Nikki on it and made an appointment with her for a haircut. Sadly she arrived late to the salon so my cut felt a bit rushed since I had a time constraint. I like my hair to be cut so I don't have to do anything to it in the morning after shampooing. I believe a good stylist can give an excellent haircut that requires no blow-dry to make it look good. I know it's possible since I've been to many people who've been able to do so. Nikki cut my hair and then blew it dry. It looked great that day but the next morning it just fell flat and for several days after that, too. I had told her I needed a cut that would not require my blowing it dry in the AM. In fairness, she offered to wet it down again so I could see how it would fall. She also offered to have me come back within a week if I wanted to have her re-do the cut. I won't go back. Too bad. I had high hopes. read more
