this place is run illegally and doesn't post prices of items or mark their items with any prices which is illegal. they make up a price when you get to the counter. This is an illegal practice and I have reported them to the city of Los Angeles. When I told the owner they are nonchalant and like well, the price is always change, bro. Totally shady. What can I say about Howe Mart except that they are wonderful local family business! I am always happy to support local businesses but this business is my first stop for almost everything that I need to get quickly. From a quick snack, drinks, to last minute purchases like office supplies and batteries, so far I would find everything here. Their shelves are always full and store is pretty organized considering how many different things you can purchase. This is a good and quick stop just northwest of LAX and playa vista beach the have a large variety of Beer, wine and non alcoholic beverages Ice cold and lots of snacks from small to large bags of your favorite chips and nuts. The have a nice variety of ice cream and a good selection of groceries. Lottery tickets are available and they open early so if your headed to the south bay beaches their your go to without going into a large market. read more

For some foolish reason i came back here for milk after already getting spoiled milk here once. Wanted to give this place another chance since its so close to my house. But the cashier was so rude to the point it felt menacing. Im not trying to get assaulted for no reason for a pint of milk. Maybe he was having a difficult day but that's no way to treat a customer, especially in this super friendly neighborhood. What is up with your card reader howe mart? I used a debit card here yesterday that I rarely use and received fraud warnings during the night. The only place I have used this card in the last 30 days was here so either your store clerk has a photographic memory or your card reader is compromised. To preface this: I have NEVER gotten food poisoning before in my life. I have good constitution. Purchased a tuna sandwich, gave me food poisoning for 3 days in a row so far... looking like it's going to be 4... maybe more. Missed out on 30 hours of work. If you value your health don't eat here. A little disappointed in my latest experience with the local market. Stopped by to purchase a 1/2 gallon of milk and a late night candy snack. Approached the counter with my form of payment, a credit card, that I have used multiple times at this same location and was advised there is a $10 minimum for a credit card transaction. I asked if this was a store policy and was this in writing...the cashier stated "Yes". I then requested to view the policy and the cashier could not locate the stated policy. The 1/2 gallon of milk was $6.79 If you want to utilize any form of payment you wish for any transaction, the Ralph's is located about 1 - 2 miles away in Westchester and pay about 1/2 the price. While visiting family recently in Playa del Rey, I had the need to refill the K cups for morning coffee. After getting to the store I wasn't sure I was going to find what I was looking for. In all honestly the store looked smaller than I was expecting, but. I did find the coffee and headed back to complete the morning breakfast. The staff was helpful and friendly. read more

Love this local market because they have delicious fresh salsa, Manhattan Beach Creamery Ice cream sandwiches and lots of scratcher tickets. We purchase scratchers for coworkers around the holidays and they are a quick go to place. I think it's a $5 limit for credit card but can always use debit. read more

I visit this liquor store/mini-mart maybe twice a week. They have a solid selection of wine and imported beer. Plenty of snacks and candy to satisfy the pickiest junk food junky. I'm not one to eat too many pre packaged sandwiches but they have a cool selection of gourmet sandwiches; they are fresh from a local deli with unique dressings and herbs. You would think you were in hood because directly across the street is another competing liquor store. However Howe Mart has a better selection of beers and they are on the West side of the street. Meaning, parking is always in the shade ; ) * Great place to pick-up firewood and hooch on your way to a romantic evening at Dockweiler Beach. * Conveniently located between Lax and Marina Del Rey without dealing with Sepulveda or 405 traffic. * Great place to nourish you after appreciating the Ballona Wetlands Marsh down the road. * You may be lucky to see the ambassador of yelp barry w. himself jogging by. read more

Good convenient store. They have good wine sales and recommendations. $5 minimum for cards. The markup is pretty standard for convenient items. Hidden gem: they are the only place I've been to that consistently sells Cinnabon Ben & Jerrys. It's like $6 but worth every penny plus some! read more

We love our local market, it has a little bit of everything, and a nice selection of things you wouldn't expect, like a jar of pickled ginger a la sushi, and the wasabi to go with it. The other night I needed a last minute dinner for 2 adults and 4 kids, and I couldn't bare ordering pizza. However, I was out of pasta and all other easy-to-throw-together items, so, I decide screw it, I'll run around the corner and grab some and I don't care what I pay, just need to put something together quick. Well I put together a dinner for six that included a huge amount of pasta, the stuff for a homemade cream sauce, some veggies, and some sausage for $16. That's cheaper than ordering pizza! I've always mentally blocked comparing to Ralphs or Traders because I just didn't want to know how much more I was paying for the convenience, however, when you look at this way, the prices are great. Love it! The wine and liquor selection is also great. And, every time I go in there I love the song that playing, usually some great classic rock. read more

The best little mini-mart in Playa. They have quite a wide selection of beers (lots of European imports, for example) and wines. And of course all the other usual 'corner-store' stuff. They also sell firewood, which is super-convenient when you're heading down to Dockweiler to have a fun beach-fire with friends. The place is clean and free of clutter and trash one so often finds at little places like these. Their produce is quite good, especially for a little mini-mart. I stopped in once to buy a lemon and it was amazing ! (yeah - fanfare for a lemon......but it was much better than what the big supermarkets sell...) Most locals know the owners and vice versa; that 'community-feeling'. They stay open till midnight on most evenings, I think. read more

When I lived in Playa this was my saving grace on many occasions. The guys who run it are awesome. They have all sorts of food/drinks/random stuff you may need. Their alcohol selection is perfect, I've always found what I need here. They get daily delivery for milk/dairy and I've found milk from here was often more fresh than from the local major grocery stores. If you live nearby, this place can be a life saver. I had a bunch of things to purchase and there was a giant line and I finally get up there and I only had a cc and he's like oh gosh no you need to leave we only take cash and like pushed me out. Howe Mart has a good variety of products at reasonable prices. You will most likely find what you need at this store. They're also open till 11pm, I think, for those late night cravings. The variety of snacks they have range from chips, jerky, salsas to healthy stuff like puddings, guacamole dips and vege dips. They now carry Comfy House Foods gourmet products, which you can also find in several grocery stores and health food shops. At Howe Mart, they have 4 different flavors of hummus, fire-roasted salsas, roasted vegetable dip (like bruschetta), multi-layered dip (gotta check this one out - perfect for Super Bowl parties) and guacamole dips. They also have these unique Vegan Rice Puddings that are, not only delicious, but nutritious. For your sweet tooth, the decadent panna cottas (Italian custard flan) are worth a try. Check it out! We live a block from the store and when we moved in were thrilled to have the store nearby. The service by this Asian couple could not be more different. The husband is so friendly but the wife could not be more ugly to customers. It's a shame that they treat people this way. I guess that get more transients then locals? read more

Up until yesterday, I went into the Howe Mart almost daily as I live up the street. I always paid in cash as this is what they prefer. Yesterday I was buying $8 worth of goods, and I only had a credit card. They said they would not accept as I must spend $15 dollars. I honestly spend about $50 a week here over the past three years I've lived in PDR, so I asked since they know I come in daily could they run my card just this once or even charge me a 10% fee (which is much more than a credit card company charges). Plus, I have seen them run other people's cards for much less. I am sad that I will no longer be a patron of the Howe Mart, but they obviously don't value their regular neighborhood customers. read more

I took it back for a return or exchange but the person working behind the counter constantly gave me excuses and flak about doing what's right and standing by their products. Please read all items you purchase, I've seen a few items that were expired but still on the shelf to be sold.
