While paying 12.00 for basically a non-alcoholic drink when you wanted alcohol in it. 1 mojito smelled of straight lemon juice annd no one could drink it. Order a beer and you will be fine- if you like beer. We reserved 6 tables and our server Katie was awesome! I decided to give Howl at the Moon a visit when I was in Pittsburgh for one night and checking out a few downtown spots on a Friday. I've previously been to the location they have in Chicago, so I knew that they're fun for hanging out and enjoying some live music. There was a decent crowd but still plenty of room at the bar for flagging down a bartender and ordering a drink. I appreciated that the space inside was very spacious and the bar both centrally located but also a bit towards the back, leaving plenty of room between it and the stage for the music/bands. We went to Howl at the Moon for their 35th anniversary on Friday evening. The place was pretty much empty when we first showed up and started to fill up throughout the night. The inside is quite large with a big bar and multiple seating/standing areas so you never feel claustrophobic. The food is catered and I saw it brought in. It's part of their Friday night fare. That night we had an appetizer bar of caprese skewers, a cheese and cracker platter, mac and cheese, pulled pork sliders with pretzel buns, chicken tenders, and fried veggie eggrolls. I went back for seconds of the sliders and the eggrolls because they were pretty good! The performers on the stage are so talented and they take requests along with cash or Venmo. Came here on the weekend during emo night and there was a $5 charge. The live music was amazing, it was nonstop pianos and singing popular songs and the performers were very engaging. The bar staff were kind and were easy to flag down. They had Jell-O shots as well which was nice. I definitely suggest coming on the weekend if you like live music! read more

Visited Howl at the Moon Pittsburgh one evening and had a terrible experience. My girlfriend had made a mistake and was trying to order at the server well. Where we live we have "fast lanes", which are areas at the bar without seating. These are designated areas for anyone not sitting at the bar to order at. Well their "server well" looked exactly like one of these, so it was an honest mistake. The bartender was very snippy about. Instead of telling her she was not allowed to order from there to move to other side of it and she could assist her. She stood there for minutes taking annoyed eye rolls and glances to then be hollered at. My girlfriend apologized profusely for this honest mistake and moved. When she moved to the side of the well, the bartender then ignored her the entire time we were standing there. We watched at least 15 different people walk into the entrance and up to the bar to then be served before her. The bartender was well aware we were standing there and had been for 25 minutes at this point. We finally decided to leave and find a different bar with better service and more polite staff. We will not be back ever again. There are plenty of options in the Pittsburgh area, do not make this one of them. read more

Very bad experience our last time at howl at the moon. Mixed drinks are terribly made. Most of the bartenders are very snippety and have attitudes. They were very rude to us about cashing out a tab when we mistakenly used the wrong card. Then they didn't allow us even a second to get a different card and made my cousin pay a tab that wasn't hers. Very bizarre and bad customer service. read more

I used to go to Howl a lot when I was in college, so I was excited to come back as an adult & find that it was just as fun as I remembered! I love the live music, and the songs are almost all fun singalongs. The space wasn't too crowded - plenty of bar seating as well as room on the dance floor to dance. I wish there wasn't a cover, though, because that decreases the frequency with which I want to go. Every so often, though, it's a great group spot to visit! I also know they do private parties with food and drink specials. I didn't try any food while there on this visit (we had come from dinner already), and I only had a high noon so it's hard to judge their drinks based on that. Service was pretty fast though! I needed something to do after weeks of being quarantined and then overworked! Howl at the Moon is always a great place to go listen to some really good live music with dueling pianos and extremely gifted , creative, and talented performers! I even met some new people I can now call friends. The atmosphere is always happy, and the servers are really nice. All of the servers I've had have always been accommodating, pleasant and outgoing and I like that. I ordered a Moscow Mule and, as usual, it was delicous. I then, along with my new friends, ordered a Green Tea Shot and it was delicous!!!! I loved it. I haven't had food here because I don't think they accommodated Vegans, but that's OK because you can order food and have it delivered to the bar!!!! Awesomenesssssss! Awesome place to have a party, drink and dance. Always have so much fun here!!! And the drinks are super fun and themed. The have super strong specialty cocktails like "Fruit Roll Up" and "Malibu Barbie". They have fun shots and party buckets for everyone to share and the staff are very attentive. The service is impressive for how packed it gets in there. I would definitely recommend going early so that you can get somewhere to sit. Very fun Saturday night! The music was great and very diverse. It was great how the band really got the crowd into the music and most people were up on their feet dancing. $5 cover charge, but compared to other bars in the area this isn't unreasonable. All ages in the crowd, and it was clear that the venue was used to hosting parties (a going away party and a 21st bday in our case) as they had tabled reserved. Drinks were pretty standard and nothing too special. If you are sitting at a table though, you will have a waitress. Ours was very nice, but forgot our drinks one time. She realized ~30 min later and came back with our drinks as well as another round on the house. All in all a great way to start off a Saturday night. read more

Some of the bartenders here need to check themselves. I never had a man rip a drink out of my hand, ever, until the blonde hair bartender, did last night. He was wearing a black "cure cancer pink" shirt. It's about 830pm and not even slammed yet. My friend ordered 3 drinks, she says, "one vodka club two vodka lemonades" I know it's loud in there but this guy is a total dick from the first word he spoke. He yells back in a really demeaning tone,"You need to slow it way down! Slow down your words." She repeats herself slower and felt embarrassed the way he treated her. It was incredibly rude. He makes the drink and I got my drink with something black floating in it. Im already over this guy so I used a black straw to try and get it out so I don't have to ask him for anything else. My body was touching the bar as I was close enough. I picked the drink up to eye level to look and was using a straw to try to get it before I felt a hard tug and realized this guy legit ripped the glass out of my hand and said," I'll just make you a new one." He didn't even say anything! Just tugged it out of my hand. I looked into his soul with a blank expression because never in my life have I had that happen. We both looked at one another because he may have realized what he just did? I was shocked. He gave another to me and he went about his life. I avoided his entire area all night. That was intense. Four of us reserved a table on a Friday evening when we were in town for a Pirates game. We got there about 745 pm or so and the place was not very busy. Te band was already playing. As time went by, the place filled up and by the time we left- it was packed. The band played a lot but they were not quite as good as the group that performed at Howl at the moon in Charlotte. But they were good. The security guy was really cool. He not only did security, but he got up on stage and sang some songs. He was pretty good! I had not been to this place in years, until recently. My friend had a get together here and I will say we had a great time. The band was great and very talented. This was until we noticed the next day that we were charged more than we had received a receipt for. We had one tab open from beginning of the night to the end, and somehow we were told that the extra charges were for not closing out a second tab we had open (this was the same card we used to open the first tab) so why would anyone say "hey open my tab again..."??? It makes no sense whatsoever. We were also given one receipt at the end of the night, so how two came about comes as a surprise to me. It also took multiple calls and e-mails to even reach someone about the charges four days later. Nobody offered to speak over the phone either to discuss the transactions with us. It's a shame, but we will not be returning. read more

We went here for the 2000s party for a bachelor/bachelorette party and it was a blast! Our bartender was amazing, she seemed newer but she was nice and was enjoying herself. We reserved a table and got right up next to the stage and they did amazing with celebrating us that night. Their drinks also were amazing and the special for their bucket couldn't be beat! I've been to other howl at the moon establishments throughout, and this has to be the worst sounding band. The singers were totally and completely out of tune. The musicianship was mediocre at best. Stopped in Howl at the Moon before a show a couple weekends ago. This was a first time for me so not knowing what to expect I could tell quickly this was a dance club that sold a decent selection of beers but probably much more known for their over the top sweet boozing buckets that were stacked behind the bar. We were there early in the evening, maybe 6:15. There was no other patrons at the time but they seemed to be getting set up for a night of piano playing and dancing. I noticed some bouncers or something at the door that I assume would collect covers and card people but we were early and therefor were not asked for any money, which is good for them as I would have turned around and walked back out. Sitting at the bar the bartenders seemed nice. There were a lot of them standing around and talking to each other. I'm guessing they are much more useful say around 10 PM or so, than at 6:15 with two guests. After two drinks we took off for the show. Not a bad place but I am guessing I won't be returning since it's undoubtedly loud and annoying, during their "peak hours" filled with drunk kids who are blasting buckets of cheap liquor and sweet mixers who will inevitably vomit hopefully in a toilet. I'm updating my review as I've had time to 'digest' the whole night (and also read the other reviews)... First off- I think this bar is in the perfect location to capitalize on the younger at heart theatre going crowd that isn't into the soft & quiet bars & restaurants of the theatre district. Sure- must of the 'show going' crowd are looking for something soothing & calming but the shows my wife & I like to go to have energy & excitement and knowing that Howl is right down the block- we'll be leaving the theatre on an 'up-beat' instead of a down. Yes- it's set up as a dueling piano's bar but the opening night featured a band that played pretty much everything and even if you go on a 'piano night' you're going to have fun. We especially liked the front bar that sat up a little higher than the other bar & dance floor so we could watch the crowd. The bartenders were ultra friendly and offered to refill drinks as soon as they were empty. The crowd for the soft opening night was more subdued in the beginning but as friends told us that stayed all night- it really heated up closer to midnight. Thank you Howl for giving us an excellent option for when we want to break away from our regular places and 'hit the town'...! read more

Our group had an amazing time and absolutely have no complaints! The waitresses and service were very quick and accommodating of a large group with different cards for payment. We also found the staff incredibly accommodating and willing to help with arranging our tables. They took our requests into consideration and we ended up with amazing tables that were perfect in accommodating a group of 10! The music was also a great mix of different styles and the band was extremely fun and interactive! Howl at the moon was one of the best Pittsburgh experiences I've ever had. We went out for my wife's birthday and had a blast! The music was incredible and the talent in the band was unmatched. I loved how they switch instruments every couple songs since they can play them all! They also take requests. Now the drinks were awesome as well. We tried every flavor of bucket drink they had and every single one was delicious and just when we thought the drinking couldn't get any better, the girls brought around Jell-O shots in syringes and we bought a bunch of those as well. Drinks are very fairly priced and there's a wide variety at the bar. I would absolutely come here again without question. read more

The music at Howl at the Moon is AMAZING! I'm impressed every single time I go with how responsive the band is to audience requests and how close their renditions sound to the original versions! However, if you are sober, skip it. The wasted clientele can be very annoying and your shoes will stick to the floors due to the constant spilling of sugary drinks. The mixed drinks are pretty awful, and the bartenders can be rude while they're making them; customer service is not their forte. If you want to see a live band play the hits, I honestly haven't seen a better one in Pittsburgh. However, if you want that band along with great service, good drinks, and a pleasant atmosphere, don't make this the only spot on your night out...I'd recommend stopping in at the end of your night-out. I have been to other Howl at the Moons, and when I went to this one, it just wasn't what I expected. It wasn't a dueling piano bar? I had a great time nevertheless ! But if that's what you're looking for, keep that in mind. It was more like live music. The other thing that I thought was strange was their food situation. They have an appetizer buffet from 6-8, and that's it. You can't order anything off of a menu. Personally, I'm not a fan of buffets, especially when there are a bunch of drunk people around them... We had an amazing time at Howl at the Moon. I reserved two tables near the stage for a bachelorette party of 15 girls. We had an absolute blast and the whole group danced all night. It was absolutely perfect way to spend a Saturday night! They called the bride and bridal party up on the stage and provided us with a waitress to cater to our drink orders. I was able to reserve the table and tickets to skip the line outside weeks ahead of time. Our bride loved being on stage and the shoutouts she got. The stage manager also took really good care of our group, making sure we were taken care of and having a good time. It truly could not have gone any better. 10/10 recommend this activity for anyone wanting to dance all night. The musicians were incredibly talented and did not stop playing for hours. read more
