We limped the truck back to our property in Alabama and picked up a rental. Once back in LA, my dad and me looked all over for a replacement engine. 6.6L Duramax for a Chevy 2500. We talked with at 15 folks about getting an engine. Some were pulled out of their trucks after being in accident's or other strange things. A few of the remanufactured shops we contacted, had prices through the roof. Some of the prices for a used engine were down right scary. I told my dad, why pay for a used engine, that we have no idea of the history on. So we looked more at getting a remanufactured engine. A lot of the places had scary prices, that would make you not want to deal with them. Just by luck, I found MTZ on Craigslist. My dad liked the price, so we ordered a remanufactured engine and asked for it to be sent to Alabama. The engine arrived on time. We brought one of our friends from LA to help with the install, but he ran out of time before he is could finish. Dad and me tried to figure out how to finish hooking up the motor, but at some point it was above my echelon of repair skills. We decided to send it to the local dealership, figured they would be able to get it completed. The guy from the dealership got the truck hooked back up and started, but ran into some coolant leaking issues. He believed that it was a blown head gasket and could fix it, if I gave him my first born, left kidney and right testicle. Toooo much money for the job, so I took it to another shop to have them run a diagnosis and trouble shoot the issue. The new mechanic said the same thing, blown head gasket. It's been months and now to hear this is heartbreaking. Dad calls MTZ upset and ready to do legal work against them, they say bring us the motor. The motor had zero road miles on it, just start and running for a few minutes in the different shops. After the motor is pulled and loaded up, I head back to Houston to have it checked to see what happened and if it was damaged, or pick up a replacement. As soon as I get to the shop, they off load the motor and in front of me, remove both heads. Well come to find out, the head gaskets were still good. Come to find out, on the back of the motor, the back plates did not make a complete seal. Since it did not seal, water was leaking it the exhaust and the oil(wish I would have known that, before driving all the way back down to Houston). I gotta say, these guys went out of their way to work on a problem, they did not create. Speaking with the owner, he expressed how in this business. They can make mistakes and will honor anything they did wrong and try to fix it. But in my case, even though they didn't have to be cool about a problem they didn't create, they were down to troubleshoot and ensure, the product I'd be taking back to Alabama was good to go. I will be heading back to Alabama in the next few minutes, with a motor that was disassembled cleaned and reassembled with another new head gasket installed. I'm giving five Stars for the customer service part right now. But my truck should be running in the next week, and I will do an update. But from the warm and fuzzy feeling I'm getting from watching these guys work, I believe it will be just as good next week.

The truck only has 36k miles and I have not noticed or felt anything strange. Took it to Sal's. First time I've used them. The work bays were spotless as was the waiting area. I was pleasantly greeted too. They worked me in in less than 15 minutes. I asked a customer who was waiting how he felt about the place, and he said he had been taking his vehicles to Sal's for over twenty years and always had good experiences. Mechanic test drove my truck and said he could detect anything. Sal had it put on the lift and inspected it, and he said the same thing- nothing was wrong! He charged me -0- for this!

Twenty years of family trust -- and they just proved why."…read more When my father brought me to Sal's shortly after I moved back to Houston, I understood immediately why he'd been coming here for 20 years -- through multiple family vehicles, through every season of life. Sal and his whole team operate with a level of integrity that's genuinely rare and at a fair value. This past weekend, I came in for a routine oil change. What I left with was something far more valuable: the knowledge that my family is safe on the road. Sal discovered my brakes were nearly metal-on-metal -- something my dealership had missed just one month prior. He also noticed my tires had dried out and cracked, which explained why I'd felt a loss of grip I'd been brushing off. Neither the dealership nor Discount Tire -- with whom I had an active membership and had just patched a tire -- flagged either of these safety issues. That day, I replaced both my brakes and tires with Sal. After 30 years with Discount Tire, I made the switch without hesitation -- to where the care and expertise are real. And the small touches matter too: cold bottled water while you wait, peppermints sent home with the whole family, and a standing offer to check my tire pressure monthly -- for free. I've never felt so safe in my car, or so genuinely cared for by an auto professional. Sal, thank you. Our family is grateful. I've never felt so safe on the road.

They half ass fixed my physical damage issues and didn't repaint the bumper that they has to replace. My truck sat at this shop waiting on parts and workmanship. When it was said that my truck was ready I came and paid the almost $7 or $8,000 bill. After I paid the bill then it was said by the female shop Mgr and mechanic that they couldn't fix an oil leak problem. I accepted it due to the months my truck was there and other prior issues. I didn't need to use the truck for months but when it was time the truck had other fluid leaks and poor mechanical workmanship issues that were found by Freightliner mechanical shop. Freightliner didn't want to repair the truck so they referred me to another shop. I called AM/PM about the issues. They came and looked at my truck and said that they would make it RIGHT & FAIR. When I gave them notice of the repair bill they offered nothing towards the bill. They just offered an oil change service job. WTF!!! HOW CAN YOU EXPECT ME TO WANT YOUR MECHANICAL SERVICES WHEN YOU DIDN'T FIX WHAT I PAID YOU FOR AND WHAT YOU PHYSICALLY DAMAGED ON MY TRUCK. I WILL MOVE FORWARD AND KARMA IS A BITCH!!
