It's been a while since I've been here so I tried the Chicken with mixed vegetables that came with a choice of egg drop, sweet & sour or wonton soup on the lunch menu. I've only tried the wonton soup and liked it so I wanted to try it again. It came hot flavorful and a couple nice size wontons topped with scallions. Very good! The Chicken and mixed vegetables had a light sauce that was very tasty with just enough soy sauce and spices. The portion was plenty for lunch. Waited a half hour, was worth it for the food was amazing, I added cheese and the chow mein was amazing. NOPE! We ordered a few things from this place and all of the items ended up in the trash. There was a weird flavor to each of the meats and none of them tasted right. We ordered the crispy beef which tasted like it had gone bad or might have never been beef. The dumplings tasted foul. I was really disappointed in this place. read more

The worst Chinese food I have ever had. I order 40$ worth of food and it all went in the garbage. The chicken is not chicken, the texture is so far off. They used fake meat is all I can describe it. Best Szechuan in Twin Cities! This place is truly a hidden gem, run by masters. The owner comes from a popular Szechuan place in Minneapolis and she struck out on her own to take over a failing takeout joint in a strip mall. And thank goodness! The menu is full of authentic Szechuan specialties. On this visit we tried: Bamboo shoots in chili oil (cold salad with scallions - fresh, crunchy and wonderful) Juicy buns (classic soup dumplings done right) Dan-dan noodles (perfectly prepared top to bottom) Boiled fish Szechuan style (the oily broth was rich and delicious, with tons of cabbage, sprouts and tofu to make a wonderfully balanced dish) Cumin lamb (velvety and deeply flavorful, contrasted with crunchy shredded lettuce). Eggplant stir-fried with garlic and pork (drop-dead delicious) I cannot wait to go back and dive deeper into the menu. Service was super sweet and friendly, food came out plenty fast and perfectly prepared, dish after incredible dish. They also have the classic Hunan dishes that the American palate is more familiar with, and I'm sure they do a great job with those items, but if you crave amazing Szechuan, this is it. If you are a fan of Teahouse, Szechuan Spice, Grand Szechuan, etc., this will be your new favorite. It's small with only a handful of tables but super clean and freshly painted, simple but pleasant decor - great for dining in or take out. FINDING IT: Remember that I called it a hidden gem? It actually is - the old "#1" sign still hangs on the facade of the strip mall above their storefront, only a small sign on the door says, "Hua Yang" - embrace the adventure and seek it out - if you know what good Szechuan food is, you'll be delighted! read more

June 1, 2021 We were looking forward to a good traditional oriental dinner today. My wife ordered Chicken and Brocoli and I ordered Chicken Chow Mein. Smelled good but both meals were absent any meat. Each dish was filled with chicken skin . These were not the meals we paid for. They were awful. We would recommend that you avoid this business and let your friends know. Not only was the food more than disappointing but their response to my wife complaint was utter disregard for customer concern. They argued that the chicken skin that was right in front of them in our returned dinners was white chicken meat. Save you time and money by avoiding this place read more

This place is under new ownership and is excellent! It is nothing like it was under the former owners so people should disregard reviews older than a year ago or so. It is now authentic and delicious. Don't let the strip mall location fool you. This is the real deal. Pretty decent Chinese Szechwan food for Minneapolis. They have other dishes, but we only ordered the spicy ones. The spice level is pretty good, not extremely hot but a little burn on the tongue. I live in Minneapolis, and I come out to the suburbs to visit my mom a couple times a week. For the last couple of years, I've been working my way through all of the Chinese places within a delivery radius of her house. Without exception, they've been "mall chain restaurant" quality at best. Until now! Hua Yang is great! I had the Szechuan Dan-dan noodles, crab meat balls, and some fried rice, but I tried some of pretty much everyone else's order, and it was all exceptional. The noodles were less spicy than I expected, but I always assume that's just "Minnesota suburb" spicy. The reviews of this place are pretty lackluster, but apparently it's recently under new management, so I hope people can look past a menu that is, to be diplomatic, a little daunting to an English-only speaker. I want to try everything, and I hope this place sticks around long enough for me to do it. read more

With most Chinese restaurants offering similar menus the difference in quality from one to the next can be pretty subjective. That said, the flavors at Hua Yang really appeal to me. No strange aftertastes, not too salty, good natural flavors. We tried pork dumplings, cheese wontons, pan fried noodles, lo mein, dan dan noodles, fried rice. I've had a tough time finding a good lo mein in my area for many years. Most are either too salty/soy flavored or just bland. Hua Yang's is just right and makes you want to keep taking another bite! Used to enjoy this Place until I received some steak one evening that was full of a jelly like material letting me know that they're cooking it all one time probably days ahead of time. It's now been about six months and I decided to give it a try again ordering simply chicken fried rice and shrimp fried rice. When I got Home all I could smell was a burnt fragrance coming from the boxes. Upon opening them and trying to dish them up I realize that they had either been sitting around all day long or they were just simply overcooked at the time that I ordered them. Moved onto the Hot & Sour Soup 75% more vinegar than I have ever had in the many Hot & Sour soups consumed in my life time. My co-worker who also ordered it & I were kidding that we were going to participate in a "vinegar cleanse". Move onto the Hunan Chicken, a very small portion of chewy under cooked white meat mixed with some week old soggy vegetables in salty sauce. I had to throw out 3/4 of the chicken meat.
