My coworkers and I used to come for lunch when we were working at the office. Quick and easy, I would always order the lunch combination. Huge portions and delicious. It's a small restaurant with bright walls and offers to go orders only, just a counter and chairs to wait for the food. A guy greeted me at the counter and took my order, very nice and suggestive. There aren't a lot of great Chinese places in the northwest burbs. It had been a long time since we tried Yu Fong so decided to give it another go. I will say it will probably be another few years before we try again. On the plus side, the egg rolls were thick and the crab Rangoon were perfectly crispy. The broccoli beef was decent but not amazing. That was where the good ended though. Our order of sweet and sour chicken was just fried chicken pieces, no carrots or pineapple like the menu says. They also only provided one very small container of rice when both broccoli beef and chicken were supposed to include rice. I went out on a limb and tried pad thai. It was overcooked, didn't include peanuts and had a very odd orange-pink color to the sauce. Looked more like sweet and sour than peanut sauce. It was a huge amount but I'm not sure how much I'll eat as leftovers. Maybe there are a few go to dishes here but, we didn't seem to have been lucky enough to order them. Feels odd to say but, if I'm in the mood for fast Chinese, I'll probably just go get HyVee next time. read more

We have been coming to Yu Fong for years and it's a staple in our household. The sesame chicken is crispy, meaty, and flavorful. The fried rice is always packed full. The wontons are fried perfectly and pair beautifully with the cream cheese filling. A lunch portion (pictured) is more than enough for one person, and could honestly be split between two hungry adults. We've tried many restaurants similar to this in the North Western/Western part of the cities, and we have yet to find a spot we enjoy more than Yu Fong. We don't live in Maple Grove anymore and we intentionally make the drive to bring this home. Note: this is a very small restaurant. Expect to take the food away/home to eat. read more

This is my first, and probably last time I will eat here. Not because of the food quality, but because I am only visiting the area for the night and more than likely won't be back anytime soon. Had ya going there, didn't I? Anyway, this really wasn't as bad as some of the previous reviews have stated. The biggest problem I see here is just lack of flavor. Pretty much bland. By no means was it awful. I actually ate the whole thing. I got a small portion of Kung Pao chicken, which comes with a side of rice. The portion, for me, was perfect. The sauce did sink to the bottom. I added small portions of rice to the container to mix it all together. So, yeah. Maybe a thicker sauce so it adheres to the rest of the entree? Like many of the other reviews, I too have been a loyal customer of Yu Fong. For the past decade, I have had nothing but praise for this local restaurant. From the initial phone order "Yu Fong, can I help you?" to the meticulous double check of the accuracy of your order before you leave, everything was top notch. I know now that I took for granted the overflowing containers of fried rice, or the almond cookie that the owner would slip in occasionally as a treat. The price was always a little higher than the competition, but the fresh ingredients and delicious dishes was well worth it. Fast forward to today. The previous owners sold/retired and current owners are on their way to destroying Yu Fong's legacy. In all fairness, today was the new owners 3rd opportunity to win me over. 3 strikes and unfortunately I'm out. I really wanted to like it, but even the staple chow mien was lacking substance and completely watery packaged in a 3/4 full container. The prices are still higher than the competition, and yet the food is subpar. It might seem petty, but it bothers me that the little things like answering the phone with "hello", or not saying thank you when you leave. The first time that I called I had to ask if I had the right number. What kind of business answers the phone with a lowly "hello"? Even their switch to plastic bags and containers is disappointing, displaying that the harm to our environment isn't even noticed. Almond cookie? Forget about it, you won't even get one of those bulk prepackaged fortune cookies...or at least I didn't today. Quality control or cost cuts, either way it shows this is no longer the Yu Fong that we all have come to love. Perhaps the only redeeming quality of this new change in ownership is knowing that the previous owners are enjoying their hard earned retirement. It saddens me to think that the reputation that they worked so hard for over the years can deteriorate so quickly. I'll go mourn somewhere else. read more

I have been coming here for years and always outstanding. The last 2 times it has been terrible. First time I was ok, it's a fluke; second time was ok that was the last time. I ordered spicy garlic shrimp which had no spice, no garlic, the sauce was just water and my egg drop soup was burnt and inedible. My family picked up food it was fast and friendly service and once we got the food home and dug in I haven't heard that many mmmm's since Christmas dinner. The egg rolls were fantastic I don't think I have ever had better. And the fried dumplings were delicious. All the dipping sauces were great too as well as the fried rice. My son got chicken wings and they were super crunchy on the outside and juicy. We can't wait to go again and try more. read more

Well, I won't lie to you. Both times I've had food here, I have no complaints. Food is hot, fresh, and fast. That being said it is pretty run of the mill. No sitting room, to go is why I go here though anyway. Avoid pineapple chicken - the sauce is just... eh. Four Hope Delight is a delight, especially atop white rice. This place used to be one of the best. Now it is under new ownership and they changed everything. Under the old ownership The vegetables you could tell by looking at them they were fresh. And it tasted awesome. The new owners need a lesson in cooking. It is garbage now. So sad. I would not even give them one star but that is as low as I can go. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for 20 years and have loved all of their food! The prior owners have retired and no owners have taken over and the food does not taste good at all like the food we are used to having for all these years. I have now tried it twice and both times it has not been good. The new owner should get the recipes from the prior owners which were absolutely delicious! I ordered a quart of the 2 in 1 Garlic Sauce house special. The flavor was excellent, the vegetables retaining a light crunch and sear from the wok. The scallops and shrimp were done to perfection - tender and flavorful, not overcooked. The garlic sauce was sweet, lightly spiced with chili flakes, perfect amount of garlic, generous, and pleasing to the palate, leaving you begging for more. Get the large size! The service was a quick 10 min wait, and the staff were pleasant and friendly. Although primarily takeout, the reception area is decorated with Chinese artwork, figurines, food photos, and plants. It is clean, and well-lit, plus accommodations for a single table of four, should you decide to enjoy your feast there. Great place for excellent Chinese takeout, and well worth checking out. This place is highly underrated. I decided to give it a try when I noticed it didn't have many reviews. I tried the egg rolls, shrimp egg foo young, and sesame chicken. My favorite was the chicken which was super crispy and flavorful it had just enough sauce. The egg foo young was warm delicious and had plenty of shrimp! If you haven't tried this place I highly recommend it. They aren't doing indoor dining but you can take the food to one of the many surround parks and enjoy! read more

Finding a good Chinese takeout place is literally trial and error. You place an order and hope for the best. Yu Fong's offers takeout only, but are very quick about preparing your food if you call in or stop in. This far, we have had the house lo mein, the pork lo mein, the Kung pao chicken, Mongolian beef, and the eggs rolls. I wouldn't hesitate to order any of them again. They do go a little easy on the spice level so if you like it spicy make sure to let them know. read more

I mean, it's ok. The lady makes me kinda nervous (like the soup nazi) but she's a hardcore worker and she be BUSY. I always feel AWFUL after eating it though. Not just the "self loathing I just ate my last bit of self esteem and topped it off with a flavorless fortune cookie" - that's to be expected always. But also Awful as in, "see you tomorrow if I'm still alive PS do you have any medicated wipes I could borrow cuz this gonna be a rough night." To be fair, that's probably not their fault. But something about it is a major IBS trigger. Like. In a bad way. But 4 stars. Because easy and yummy. read more

The service is counter, there's only two dine in tables in the whole place (and they're mostly used by folks waiting for their take out).
