I was craving Chinese food tonight but wanted to try someplace new. After looking at the menu, I decided to give them a try. I was expecting just the basic American Chinese, but this was definitely a very elevated version of it. I ordered the hot and spicy wontons (dumplings) and ordered them "very spicy". I'd have loved more spice, but I added some chili oil at home and they were perfect. I got the Kung Pao Beef combination that comes with fried rice and an egg roll. The fried rice wasn't full of carrots and peas, so I was already happy, but it was really well flavored with a little egg in it. The vegetables were the perfect level of crunchy and the gravy was well seasoned. It went great with the fried rice. Appreciated how efficient the woman at the counter was. Delicious Chow Mein is a small restaurant in a slightly larger strip mall that you probably wouldn't know about unless someone told you. I had an old friend who lived in the area which is how I originally got hooked on it. From what I've heard from other people, most of the food is similar to any other Chinese place but what I KNOW sets them apart is their fried rice. I'm not going to lie, I go here a couple of times a month just to order shrimp fried rice for lunch. I never get anything else because I'm picky and don't eat much in the first place, but man the fried rice is good. If you stay by the counter you can watch the man cook the rice. I like that I know it's being made fresh for me. It's not anything special on the inside. It's very home-like in my opinion and there are rarely other people in there when I go. I have learned to appreciate the quiet little hole in the wall for what it is. I enjoy popping in for my rice, seeing the lady that owns the place, and waiting for my food while I watch the cars pass out the window. If you want the most monochromatic meal you have ever had, in dark brown, this is the place. Our food tasted fine, but it was incredibly ugly, and too salty from what I assume is the over use of soy sauce. I guess that is also what gives it that delightful shade of used motor oil. The prices seemed great until we saw the portions. This is not like most Chinese places where you get a tightly packed, overstuffed container of fried rice, and enough leftovers for days. Hot and sour soup was good enough. It was super thick which is not my preference. A bit expensive for the pint size compared to many other places. Egg foo young was a tad burnt, and a very small portion. Don't be fooled by "3 patties". Thin gravy with a hint of a flavor I did not care for. I think 5 spice was the culprit, but I am not sure. Mostly salty. Mandarin chicken was surprisingly tasty, and had more heat than expected. That name is attached to a variety of actual dishes, but this one definitely had the flavor of sha cha sauce, which is what I always hope for when ordering "Mandarin". But. SO. BROWN. Not a destination. If I lived down the block, and was too drunk to do anything but stagger over to Delicious, I would for sure do it. Or if I worked nearby it would probably come into lunch rotation occasionally by default. But, in general, I would not suggest anyone rush over there. read more

Oh I so wanted to like this place. It's close to home. It has chow mein in the name of the business. It's close to home. Unfortunately, two stars it is. We called in a takeout order and the woman told me 15 minutes. I arrived 13 minutes later and was glad that we chose takeout. The place itself is small and only has a few tables. They were fine but had old torn chairs and would not be a comfortable place to sit and eat a meal. It also looked like the couple who runs it practically lives there. I spotted a pair of their shoes haphazardly cast off to the side in the dining room (weird) and boxes of fortune cookies, plastic ware and cups are stacked up on the edge of the room. Not very inviting or comfortable. On the plus side, the area where the gentleman was doing the cooking had white tile and it looked spotless. God bless them, I love a restaurant that keeps the cooking area clean. Upon my arrival, the woman greeted me and told me it would be a few more minutes. There was one other man also waiting for his food. I offered to pay so that I could just walk out with my food and the woman seemed a little annoyed but did take my payment. Then I waited. And waited. The guy's food came. Another guy arrived. I waited. 15 minutes of waiting (and double the amount of time that I was told on the phone) and my food was ready. When I got home, the food was eh. We got eggrolls, which were OK but largely cabbage. But still good flavor and nicely wrapped and fried. We got fried dumplings, which were pretty good. I did like that they gave me (upon request) a little cup of that awesome chili oil that a lot of Chinese places have on the table. So good. The two dishes we got were just kind of eh. We got double cooked pork and pork with the Cantonese pan fried noodles. The pan fried noodles were not what I expected. They were more like those puffy rice noodles that were put in a deep fryer rather than the egg noddles fried in a skillet the way I think of. Both came in a brown sauce, and while one was sweet and one was more salty, they were practically identical at first glance. We honestly couldn't tell which was which at first. Overall, the food was really salty. Like I actually stopped eating before my first plate was done because I felt like I ate a salt lick. Also, while some items were plenty hot, others were lukewarm by the time we sat down to eat. I think it was the net result of one guy trying to cook four items... he did one first and that was the coldest. I am not sure we will be back soon. read more

This place is the real deal. Everything is made to order. There are no steam tables here. Sesame chicken and orange chicken are always crispy and never soggy. Not great for crowds unless you are a patient group because all items are made to order. Wonderful hot peppers in oil on the tables. Skip the appetizers and stick to the entrees. Good food! When you can actually order it. Their phone is always busy, and they don't have call waiting. I called 80 times in 30 minutes and never got through. This lost them my business. This is the ultimate mom and pop hole-in-the-wall. Pretty small when you enter but most people tend to place a call-in order and pick it up 10-15 min. later. Fiancé and I chose to just sit in and eat which was no biggie. I got a bowl of the hot and sour soup and it was spot on just what I wanted! Delicious flavor with a kick! We also ordered orange chicken to share which was plenty for the two of us. Lots of food for super cheap! This place is our Chinese go-to in the neighborhood. Most expensive thing on the menu is about $20 for 4 servings, most things are between the $6-7 range if you do a dinner combo, and lunch specials are between $4-5. Much better than Leann Chins, Panda Express etc. and takes the same amount of time really. The food comes heaped on your plate, piping hot. The lady who runs the place is super nice, and her husband is the cook. He knows how to make some super delicious cuisine! They also have a take out menu so you can grab and go. read more

Best Chinese takeout that we've found. You nailed it again Yelp! Food was freshly made. Tried the Kung pao chicken based on another review and it was On Hit y'all. Fresh, flavorful, nice and spicy. This place knows what they are doing. Food is similar in style to what you'd expect from other places, but it's much tastier and fresher. Don't let the strip mall facade scare you away. The fried rice was definitely NOT made from someone else's leftover white rice, like some places. Can't wait to try the sesame chicken and orange chicken - next time. Get the spices & oil to go to add a little kick if you like. We requested No MSG and they said OK. (Another Chinese place we had called down the road couldn't do that, as everything was already pre made.) Not sure if it actually had MSG or not - my GI tract will kindly let me know in about an hour... Lastly, my 6 year old said they didn't give us enough fortune cookies. Have been going here for years. Food is awesome and a great value. Wide menu selection. The biggest issue that's turned me away is sanitation. I along with others have seen the cook wipe nose and grab carrots. Also have watched him cough and then work with food.Have found mold on the hot sauce on the tables. Noted the presence of neighborhood regulars, which I think is a good sign for a place that was by no means upscale. Delicious Chow Mein is a real mom & pop hole in the wall, it's like walking into someones very old home (complete with shoes under chairs on the side!) and the first impression can be a bit daunting due to how old everything in the front of the house is. But surprisingly, it's actually very clean, and most importantly the kitchen is immaculate. We have got take out a couple of times, and each time it's been cheap and delicious. The servings are generous and everything tastes fresh & freshly cooked (another +, the place does not have that stale used oil smell a lot of Chinese restaurants have, I'm looking at you Leeann Chin). The Egg Drop soup is worth a special mention, as is the Chow Mein (which lives up to being Delicious!). But so far we haven't had anything less than good. They may not be the best in town, but they're our number 1 choice for takeout after having tried everyone in a 10 mile radius. You really can't ask for more. read more

I should have known when I saw the tired strip mall and the pothole they call a parking lot to just keep driving but some of their reviews were good so I thought I would try them. The place itself was filthy to the point where the dirt and cobwebs were actually hanging from the ceiling usually not a good sign. The lady was hard to understand especially from behind her mask so I just had to assume she had my order right. The eggrolls were overdone and crispy but did taste OK. I cannot say the same for the pork egg foo yung which were in a dark jelly like sauce that made them way too salty. The chicken sub gum chow mein was the worst I've ever had... again too salty and I'm really not sure what all was in it because of the dark sauce that it was in. The rice was good (its hard to ruin rice). I have searched the city for good chow mein (since Cathay burned up in December) and have had little luck but for sure I will never come back here! read more
