I appreciated that they have tried to add more classes with only one room and the gym. They have made a cycling room, which I hear offers great classes. They also added a midday yoga class, which is great when the kids are in school. I would like more daytime classes then evenings because that is better for my schedule. Childwatch is usually not busy, which is great. I do not use it anymore so I'm not sure on anything specific for childcare these days. Youth sports are affordable and the directors do a good job of making sure the kids are having fun and playing fair. It's nice they have a pool, but the schedule is hard to understand of exactly when open swim is. I also wish they would have a slide, like Coffman or something fun for the kids. The new director and new fitness director are really doing their best trying to improve the West Carrollton YMCA. Overall happy to be a member just wish they could make the place a bit bigger.

I also learned not all locations honor the silver sneakers. When you are a member you can visit most other locations but not all. Lebanon Ohio y only honors their memberships. This was the first place i toured and i was interested.

The Fairborn Y sits somewhere in the middle. Not new, not dilapidated. The free weight room is a converted racquetball court. The exercise machines are all in great condition, but feel squished together into one smaller room, so that when you are using the chest fly machine, you can feel the breath of the guy on the leg press machine and the grunts of the barbell warrior vibrate in your chest. It is close quarters, but everyone is polite. The locker rooms are located in a back hallway and up a couple steps and I don't know about accessibility options, but it is also tight quarters in the locker rooms, especially the bathrooms. Two stalls are jammed into a corner, so plan your potty visits with time to spare. It definitely gets the job done and you can get a great workout in if you already know what you are doing. But for people new to the gym or to working out, I think they could do a better job of making you feel welcome and making it clear who you can go to for questions if you have them. The front desk folks were friendly, but the three times I have been there so far, the staff member in the weight room is on the computer or their phone and doesn't even look up to acknowledge people who are at the water cooler 3 feet away. I'm not entirely sure they ARE an employee. All in all, it is a solid workout and a fine stop if you find yourself in town. I showed up for a class today at 1 o'clock and no one was there. When I went to the desk, they were kind of dismissive. "If nobody's there it was probably canceled. Did you check the app?" They should know their audience. A lot of people are older and don't want to work apps. And with that being said, why would you hand me a weekly class list that is not correct? I also asked the front desk three times in the week I've belonged, where a class was located. None of them said "oh it's right here or it's right there." Every one of them had to pull up the app or go to the monitor and pull up a class. Shouldn't the front desk know more about what's going on and what classes are being held and where they are in the gym? I don't know. It's kind of souring me.

There is a squat rack, power rack, deadlift platform and all the free weights + all the machines you could ever want IMO. There are yoga & Fitness classes with an attitude of "just do your best," no pressure to keep up when you can't. The yoga instructors are kind and helpful esp Melissa. If you're looking for free weights for the big compound movements or to just get moving with treadmills etc and weight machines I think you will find Club51 a haven. Staff is knowledgeable & courteous. Paid personal training is available I'm pretty sure but don't take my word, go check them out!

BEWARE! Imagine you visit this Y from out of town. You put your things in an open locker to use…read morethe pool. Pool is closed so you use the steam room instead. After a steam you go to your locker to retrieve your things. The locker has malfunctioned won't open. you're in your swim trunks with no phone, no keys or wallet. The staff tells you there is no way to enter the malfunctioning locker. You're now STRANDED ! If you're lucky enough to have A friend nearby they can drive 45 min to give you clothes and a place to sleep. But what if you're not so lucky? You sleep on the floor of the Y I suppose. The maintenance person won't show up till the morning. When he does have to physically break into the malfunctioned locker, he'll insinuate it's your fault . DOES that sound like a RELAXING time at your local Y? Stay away. BEWARE!!

But starting late cause the kids to be playing during the snow or freezing temperatures. They added a game for the week following the "close" of the season. They have no regard for parents schedules. Season should be starting Saturday sept 5th. It's been postponed to sept 13th. But some teams will have games Saturday the 5th. I have 2 kids and have no schedule for either kids team. How am I supposed to schedule life if they can't get me a schedule and not make last minute changes?!? If the refs are as bad this year as last it's going down. U4 games should last 30 mins max. One of our daughters last over an hour because the ref couldn't keep track of time! Hire people who know how to use a stopwatch or tell time. I left the sports director a voicemail and I've still not gotten a call back. They do not prioritize timeliness. Practice schedules went out the week before they started. It's no surprise the teams barely have 9 players each. Parents don't want the bullcrap.
