Restaurant was amazing (both breakfast AND dinner). Hotel right across the street from the Hudson, great views and a charming seaside inn feel. Unfortunately the room gave us a little more "outdated" than it was "modern but quaint." However, the staff at both the restaurant and hotel are awesome. Extremely friendly and attentive. Super impressed with the customer service throughout. Restaurant = 5 stars. Hotel room needed some TLC. Such a lovely place. If you come with the Seastreak boat from New York, this establishment will be the first building you see on the left side of the road. Make sure to step inside and make a reservation before you go to explore the town -- this place will get very packed around 2 pm. I had a brunch Maryland crab omelette and a glass of Montepulciano. Sitting on a sofa near the faux fireplace, we realized there was no waitress so I stepped up to the bar to order drinks. As I went back up to the bar to get a second (really weak) drink, the hostess came to seat my wife but on the way to the table the hostess stopped to chat with someone leaving Meg hanging. Very strange. I ordered off the Restaurant Week menu (Lobster Bisque and a Shrimp Pasta). With limited vegetarian options, Meg ordered French Onion Soup, a Cesar Salad and three sides: Horseradish Mashed Potatoes, Asparagus and Mac and Cheese. Our waitress brings over a basket of thinly sliced bread that seemed to have been toasted a few hours earlier along with some "bruschetta" topping: unripe tomatoes, canned chick peas, raw garlic and a few drops of oil. Hmmm, probably not a good sign. My bisque arrives cold, her soup scalding hot. We eat what we can. Her Caesar arrives with the most bitter dressing either of us have ever tasted. It almost seemed like that were nearly out of Caesar dressing and decided to stretch it with pure white vinegar. My wife was convinced the shaved parmesan was actually plastic or wax. Three decent sized shrimp in my pasta dish were overcooked but the sauce was the main story. Cream overwhelmed by garlic with no other flavor. As we tried to eat it the sides arrived. The Mac and Cheese was clearly cooked by the same guy who did the soup. Burned to a crisp on top, the Mac barely cooked, swimming in a vaguely cheese flavored sauce and served at about 600 degrees causing Meg to shark-bite her own lip and bleed profusely into the table linens. The potatoes and asparagus were barely warm but OK. A few minutes later our waitress arrives with another serving of potatoes, asparagus and carrots explaining that it comes with my pasta. Thanks for letting us double order. There were no bussers and at this point our table for two had 9 plates of varying sizes, as nothing had been removed since we were seated. My dessert was part of the RW menu. Meg was never offered dessert, nor coffee which she usually enjoys after a meal out. Worse, the check had come yet she was still breathing noxious fumes from the bowls of chickpea lab experiment and lettuce acetone salad right that sat, un-bussed, right under her nose. Now we're ready to leave and ask the waitress to pack up the potatoes, asparagus and chocolate pecan pie that rounds out the Restaurant Week menu. No need to pack the pasta. REALLY, no need to pack the pasta. We get home, open the bag with the leftovers and find not one but TWO containers of the pasta (was it someone else's?, a gift from the kitchen?, did they originally forget to put the second serving on my plate?), the vegetables and the pie. As gluttons for punishment, we take a bite of the pie - no pecans, just a mush of uncooked boxed brownie mix thickened with condensed milk with a layer of what tasted like generic brand chocolate flavored chips. Meg described it as having something unholy in her mouth. Both of us spent the night with rumbling stomachs. Never again - no second chance. It's a shame cause it's a very nice location and the room is pretty good too. read more

Lameness and Ineptitude Masquerading as Fine Cuisine We had such a rotten experience at this restaurant that I joined Yelp just to let my feelings known. We heard good things about the restaurant, so we made dinner reservations. We should have left after the watered down drinks were served. The food was meh - not all of it exactly edible, and none of it could be called "fine cuisine.: There are far better establishments up the street. Too bad, the building occupies a prime location that otherwise could be used by a higher quality kitchen and management. Don't bother dressing up unless you're going to a wedding there. People where wrinkled sweatpants, tee-shirts, and shorts in the summer. We call this "low-brow." If you are a low person you won't mind such nonsense. We're not high-brow or anything but we were much offended and disappointed. Keep away! read more

A very satisfying experience. Very good food, and a really cool 181 year old ambiance. Not cheap, but worth it; not brilliant, but very good food. And simply can't beat the location. I can't believe that this place isn't rated overall with 5 stars. This restaurant is amazing. It has become our new favorite ! We had the seafood stew and I must say it was the best we ever had! The service was excellent, the food was primo and the vibe was great! The ingredients are local so you get top notch food. We love our stay at the Hutson house . From check in to when we left . The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Our breakfast was outstanding we really loved our room with a balcony. The only drawback was the night we had dinner the food was outstanding but!!!!! I had the rack of lamb special and I was a little disappointed it was the smallest rack I have ever been served usually 8 bones but here they only serve 5 bone , I would definitely recommend this restaurant . I stayed here last week with my fiance, and it was fantastic! For the restaurant: I've been here more times than I can count. It's one of my favorite parts of Cold Spring. Food is always phenomenal. As my fiance says, we've never had a bad meal at the Hudson House. Service is also always impeccable. Miguel was a great waiter; he treated us very well! As we left, I noticed the tavern was setting up for a wedding. It looks like it'd be a cute place for it! We had previously decided against it though because the restroom is connected to it, so people will walk in and out. For the inn: Again, fantastic service. They let us check in a couple hours early, as there was no one staying there the night before. We were very appreciative of that! There's lemon water, iced tea, and cookies almost all the time, which is a nice touch. We had a riverside balcony room. The upgrade was totally worth it. It was wonderful sitting outside and looking out at the bandstand and the Hudson River. Room was quaint and cozy. Air conditioner is small, so it'll take a while to feel it. I'd suggest turning it on as soon as you get in. Also, I really liked the bath products. If you're expecting a modern hotel experience (think Marriott, Ritz Carlton, etc.), you'll be disappointed. This is a historic landmark, so it's going to feel like an old-timey place. But if you're in the mood for a place with character and charm, you'll have a great time. read more

This review is for the Inn as an accommodation. Such an adorable inn! For Labor Day weekend I was able to book a standard room for Sunday night only for $175. I was thrilled! The bedroom was sweet with a flower patterned bedspread and painted trim near the ceiling with light green walls and fluffy down pillows. The bathroom was decent and included Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries. The little window seat had gauzy white curtains and a view of the tiny quiet main street and the Hudson River. The building is over 150 years old and is on the national registry of historic places. It felt very homey! One of our favorite touches was the chocolate cookies and lemonade at the bottom of the stairs in the afternoon. Yummy! Breakfast was also included in our room rate, so we enjoyed blueberry pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns, toast, sausage, orange juice, tea, and coffee on the riverside porch. The staff were all friendly and accommodating. The location is perfect because it is right next to the river, the main town pier and harbor, the bandstand/gazebo, and a short jaunt to the MAIN main street (on the other side of the train tracks) where all the restaurants and numerous antique shops are. Plus, it's less than a 7 min hike to the Metro-North train station. Perfect for a short weekend getaway. There are also plenty of hiking and kayaking opportunities nearby. We had dinner in the River Room tonight. I do want to say the staff is amazing. From the host/hostess (there seemed to be 2 people in front) to the waiters and busboys, everyone was genial and professional. Our waiter specifically really made up for the lackluster food. I see all the great reviews on here and I don't know if we just ordered the couple clunkers on the menu, or what happened. I got the lobster bisque(lukewarm) and my bf got the mozzarella, tomato appetizer. Both were "meh." We both had the tuna sashimi for our entrees. This was really disappointing. I think the tuna would've been better more thinly sliced? The accompanying potatoes and vegs weren't hot. For dessert we got the pecan pie. This I asked to have warm (wasn't sure if it would come out cold)--and it came clearly nuked for too long. We were both in pain after the first bite and had to wait it out. It came with literally a "dollop" of ice cream--and there were no pecans that I could find. It was actually pretty chocolate-y. The prix fixe is definitely a bargain--if the food is good. Even my cappuccino tasted off. Anyway, the staff gets 5 stars and the food, just based on tonight, gets 2. read more

OK, I'm a sucker for cute little bed and breakfast joints. I grew up in rural Ohio and there is something irresistibly country about bed and breakfast inns. I guess I feel like I'm almost home when I visit one of these charmingly quaint places. The view of the Hudson is nice and probably amazing in the Fall with the ever-changing colors. The food in the dining room is ok for breakfast (I don't think they try very hard), yummy for lunch and deliciously overpriced for dinner. You are much better off wandering the streets of Cold Spring for more imaginative dining. There is a nice trail run about a 1/2 mile away from the hotel - a short jog. Trails are so different back East:) The rooms are small and decorated with antiques - perfect for Cold Spring. Cold Spring is a nice little town, tucked away by the Hudson river and aptly named by George Washington. Lots of cute shops and restaurants...a nice get away without the kids. read more

This is a review for the restaurant only. The Hudson House River Inn is located right next to the Hudson River with beautiful views. The service is friendly and efficient. We had a combination of specials and regular items. The clam chowder was good and creamy with lots of small chunks of clams. Because it is so creamy, I'd recommend sharing a bowl. The spinach ravioli topped with lobster is also good and also rich. We did split a portion and with four large raviolis per half and each topped with a generous portion of lobster meat, it was more than enough. The cedar plank salmon topped with scallops in a soy sauce and drizzled with a wasabi cream was very good as well. If you like charming, old restaurants, I would recommend dining here. Cold Springs NY is located a quick 70 minute train ride from Grand Central. Once you arrive in the little town, everything is within walking distance. This makes for a beautiful, peaceful day trip from Manhattan. read more

I absolutely adore B&B! This beautiful & intimate Victorian Inn is perfect for a weekend getaway..and a great spot to unwind after a long walk around town or antiquing. Nestled in the heart of the Hudson River, we stopped here for a relaxing weekend getaway and de-stress. (got just that!) The River Room has amazing view while we enjoyed our meal. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We ordered appetizers and drinks. I felt like I was whisked away--another place another time while I dined with my husband. My favorite: French Onion Soup and Watermelon Spritzer. Definitely a place to have dinner with your friends or a romantic candlelight dinner overlooking the water. Just perfect! read more

We met friends here for an early Sunday dinner before a show at Boscobel, only 2 miles away. We all chose the Prix Fixe option and found the selections were terrific. We all tried different appetizers and entrees with high marks for all. The desserts were delicious as well, with excellent service. We were steps away from the Hudson River in a charming dining room. Three cheers for the Hudson House! This is a truly classy establishment, and is a wonderful place to go for a special occasion. The dining rooms - there are two, make sure you get a table in the one that faces the river, as it's a bit nicer - are lovely, the wait staff is top-notch, and the food.... what can I say that hasn't already been said? It's terrific. I went here once for lunch and another time for their Easter dinner, which was a fixed menu. Both times the food and service were outstanding. For lunch I had a salad with braised scallops, which was terrific, and for the Easter dinner I had some sort of prime rib that was perfect. I also had dessert here, a chocolate-raspberry cheesecake that everyone should try at least once, and the Hudson House's bartender makes great mixed drinks. There's this Italian Peach mixed drink that deserves accolades. The Hudson House is expensive - the Easter dinner cost well over $200, and lunch was not exactly pocket change either - but it's well worth it if you want to treat yourself for a special event. It's a pretty popular place. When I went for dinner the dining room was packed, and I've seen tons of dinner parties, rehearsal dinners and even one wedding being held on the premises. It's a little quieter at lunchtime, but on the weekends the place does a brisk business, and there's always diners sitting outside on the veranda in nice weather. I have yet to stay overnight at the Hudson House so I have no idea what it's like as an inn, but as a restaurant it's just lovely. They don't take reservations for lunch but they do take them for dinner, so don't be afraid to reserve a table the next time you're in Cold Spring. read more

Service was highly adequate, nothing to gush about. I had the seafood vol-au-vent to start. Meh. The St. Jaucques prep was not a bit creamy. More pasty. And then.... of all things, I ordered the Cuban Sandwich. Should I have expected it to be more than it was in this extremely not Latin restaurant? No. But it was. It was very good. Delicious in fact. I have many favorite dishes such as the Lobster bisque, Ceasar salad, Chilean Sea Bass (no longer served) and for dessert I really enjoy their Crème brûlée. I have been to Hudson House on a fairly regular basis for years. First of all it is one of the closest good restaurants in the area. They are known for their lobster bisque which is excellent... I always enjoy their chopped salad which i frequently take home with me.. Since i am not a big meat eater, i Enjoy their rack of lamb or even their pasta boglonais which is very good. My only complaint about this restaurant is that they rarely change the menu. I enjoy different options for food and i seem to get the same dishes every time i go. I do recommend it to anyone in the area.. the food is very good and the view is amazing. read more

I stayed here a few weekends ago and really loved it! We wanted to stay in Cold Spring as a little getaway from the city while also visiting family in the area. First off, the staff was excellent. We were warmly greeted and shown to our room, with complimentary cookies on the way up! They really have an amazing location right on the Hudson River. The building is very old, there is some historical information when you first walk into the foyer, with images of the original building. Somewhere in the early 1800's it was built,( I believe the 1830's?) and it still looks lovely. We booked a river view room. The room was bright, sunny and very clean. Something that is very important to us both. Our room was also quaint and charming, the bed was a queen size, it was pretty comfortable and so were the pillows. The view of the river was wonderful! We had dinner there on the last night of our stay. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and very helpful with suggestions. What a kitchen! We ordered the porter house - to die for- with a side of sweet potato casserole and asparagus YUM! I know this is for inn reviews so I will save the rest of the dinner details for their restaurant review! There is a delicious complementary breakfast each morning, we were able to eat out on the veranda and look out at the Hudson. It was such a pleasant experience! The room was lovely, the staff was cheerful, and our stay was excellent. We will definitely be back! We aim to reserve a room with a balcony or terrace on our next excursion. read more

It was a tortilla with sauce cheese and pesto. It wasn't good. Not worth $10. The lobster avocado sandwich seemed like it may have been premade - not as fresh as we had hoped. It was ok. The bread it was served on was nice and the sweet potato fries were good. But the lobster salad was disappointing. The sangria is a pass. My husband and I had our brunch wedding reception here and were very happy with the service we received and our experience overall! Craig and fellow staff at the Hudson House provided clear and timely communication throughout the entire process. Craig was very personable, easy to work with, professional and obviously has had plenty of experience hosting events like ours. This review is for lunch only. Came here for lunch on a day trip to Cold Spring. I have been to the area numerous times and had many unspectacular meals, so after reading the review on the Hudson River Inn, I decided to spend a little extra on what might be a less unspectacular meal. The place is very old-fashioned with nice views of the Hudson River. The prices are a little high but hey, the view is nice, right? My wife ordered the lobster bisque, which came with chunks of flour, our favorite (sarcasm, of course). The chopped salad was nicely prepared and tasted very good. My surf and turf was interesting. Very nice presentation, very nice-looking shrimp, and the tatse was decent. However, I was unable to tell if the green beans were fresh or frozen, and that is not a good thing. Would I come back? Probably. Would I recommend this place? Probably. But this is only because of the strawberry butter served with the popovers and the lack of excellent dining options in the immediate area. read more

We visited this establishment as a group of approximately 25 people, so because of the foreseeable difficulties tied to such a large size group, I'll limit my comments on the quality of the service we received to saying they were very friendly, attentive to our needs and managed our sizable food and drink orders as well as we'd want under the circumstances. Besides the slightly lengthy bill process tied to the waitresses inexperience with such a sizable group, we were in and out of there in about 2 hours. The staters were very good, I ordered the crab cake and they were really very nice... there must have been another 7 to 10 crab cake orders at the table and all agreed they were very much to their liking, so I can safely speak to the crab cake's "consistent" good flavor. For my main course I ordered the four cheese stuffed chicken. This was accompanied with string beans and a mash-potatoes and horse-radish preparation that I was a little dubious about at first, since horse-radish is so strong a taste. But in actual fact that mash-potatoes thing was pretty much the highlight of the plate. The chicken was the tiniest bit dry and quite frankly the four cheese stuffing must have been some quite soft tasting cheeses because beside its lumpy'ish and creamy like texture, I can't really say I noticed it's participation in the flavoring of the dish. As dessert I ordered the chocolate and pecan pie which was very good. I was tempted to take the apple strudel at first but the waitress convinced me otherwise being such a fan of the chocolate pecan alternative herself. I tend to be a little guarded when it comes to pecans, they're an acquired taste (and texture really), and while I admittedly enjoy the taste in small doses, it would be an easy mistake to over-indulge its portions with respect to the chocolate in the cake. (Can there ever be too much chocolate? Really?!? Of course not! ...My apologies. ) Yet, in my opinion the pecan and chocolate married perfectly, with the pecan being present just enough to add a light enjoyable pecans taste while also reducing what often turns or to be chocolates cake's bane, over sweetening. I noted that nearby friend's meals weren't to their dissatisfaction overall, and I can surely attest their liking their starters as well as other traits of the restaurants performance that evening. The waitresse's good humour, the service's quick turnaround with respect to such a daunting group, and the manager's intervention coming in to ensure that we left unscarred from what could have turned out to be an excessively lengthy payment process. All in all a nice restaurant, a beautiful building and a good crew to hold it all together. read more

As far as this area, this place can't be beat. The location and view are fantastic; it's on the edge of town, with only a beautiful park and pier between it and the Hudson River. Great for a nice walk after lunch or dinner. The salads are large and very fresh. The lobster bisque was killer, especially with the popovers they serve. The service was attentive without being overbearing; but it wasn't busy on a Wednesday afternoon, so I can't speak for a Saturday night. This restaurant has a great ambiance and is tastefully decorated with pieces from its past. The prices aren't too bad considering everything, but they're still slightly high for the area. An average 3 stars for the inn and the restaurant. This bed and breakfast is mainly no-frills; no feather mattresses or big screen TVs at this joint. But the service is friendly, the rooms were clean, and the view is beautiful. Ultimately, a peaceful getaway that is very convenient by public transportation out of Manhattan. The restaurant portion of the inn fares a little lower than the inn; I would round this down to 2 and a half stars. We dined here for the complimentary breakfast (which featured sit-down service) and also had their prix fixe dinner. Meats were overcooked, and ultimately none of the components were memorable. The inn is still worth a visit though; the decor is charming and the views are wonderful. read more

When we had to change our wedding plans due to the pandemic, we decided to have a very small ceremony at Dockside Park in Cold Spring. The staff at Hudson House River Inn were so helpful with this new plan! We planned to have lunch there after our ceremony, and Craig went above and beyond. He was so accommodating in allowing us to get ready for our ceremony at the inn. He helped everything run smoothly, and even set up a wedding cake cutting area for us after lunch. We are so grateful to Craig and the rest of the staff for helping our wedding day run seamlessly and making us feel special, as if our wedding was originally supposed to be there. This was my second stay at the Hudson House River Inn. I really can't say enough about the staff. I am a new mother traveling with an infant and they were so accommodating. I would like to personally thank Craig, John and Tracy who consistently helped me with anything I needed. The house keeper whose name begins with an L (sorry I forgot) was so kind and thoughtful. The rooms are small but I think it adds to the charm. Sure the wifi is not great but you shouldn't go if you want to only play on your phone or computer. Cold Spring is a wonderful place to explore and the Hudson House River Inn is a great place to stay if your looking to get away. We will certainly return!! read more

I was disappointed. The flavor combinations aren't well thought out. No unique dishes, very basic menu. Each main course came with the exact same sides (carrots & green beans) = lazy. The meats (salmon, cod, scallops, steak) all tasted & had an appearance like they were frozen at some point in time. Some of the mains had toppings to clearly disguise the taste. We visited the restaurant this past Saturday, August 4th at 6pm. We were a party of 8. When we arrived, we realized there was no air conditioning. When we called the manager over, he brought 2 fans by our table. So now, we were hot and had hot air blowing on us. He was quite rude telling us that the air went out on Friday in the storm and no one could fix it until Monday. First of all, there are 24 hour AC/Heating companies and secondly, they probably didn't want to pay for the emergency call. Either way, they should have called us to let us know the air conditioning was not working on such an oppressively hot day. They should have called EVERYONE with reservations for that day. Even if the air was working, the food was just mediocre. My steak was over cooked and the salads were drenched with dressing. The drinks were horrible...the sangria tasted like fruit juice, the vodka on the rocks had no ice and the margarita was white....it had to be sent back so it could be made properly. We had to keep asking for our water classes to be refilled and there was no ice at all in our glasses. The waitress was kind enough to bring us 3 mason jars filled with ice. The staff looked like they were miserable due to the heat and the service was reflective of that. This was my second time at this restaurant and there will not be a third. First annual Oktoberfest was top notch. Food was incredible and service flawless with a great band. 'First' Annuals can be hit or miss but they definitely made us hope there will be a 'Second'. We have eaten and stayed here in the past and highly recommend you give it a try. Location is great as well being right by the water. read more

I was so excited to dine at the Hudson House in Cold Spring last evening! I had eaten there several times throughout the last ten years but, it had been a while! We arrived and were seated immediately! The restaurant which was always bustling, was pretty empty. The menu has changed drastically as did the quality of the food! I ordered the Burrata as an appetizer and the Spinach Ravioli for dinner. The burrata was okay. The Spinach Ravioli left me quite disappointed! The meal was lukewarm and the sauce tasted like it was from a can. I was so disappointed! I do not believe the restaurant has the same chef! The quality of the food has gone down drastically but, the prices have remained high. It used to be a quality restaurant! Very sad with our visit there! We will not be returning. read more
