Very small establishment, drove past location, was worthwhile making a U.turn. Food was very good, decent portions for the price. Staff was friendly and moved line for food service and take out quickly. There are a few tables; however take out was the option for the majority of customers. I'm trying to understand why the good reviews on Google but I guess to each his own. I had been told about this place by my nail tech and happened to be in the area for lunch. I ordered the meatloaf dinner with yams, Mac & potato salad. It's very hard to describe the taste of the meatloaf but it wasn't edible and it was not thoroughly cooked. It was almost like hamburger mush and the hamburger did not taste like real ground beef whatsoever. I spit that back out and moved on to the Mac. I could tell by looking it wasn't going to be good but gave it a shot anyways. The cheese was like rubber. The taste of something not like real cheese and overly processed. That's gets spat back out too. The potato salad was edible enough but the consistency is like soup and there were huge slices of egg on it but again more edible than the other two things I had already tried and I was able to finish it all. I moved on to the yams and hose were good. No excess sugary syrup so that's a plus. Lastly the muffin/cornbread was good and semi-sweet and tasty but clearly over cooked as it was sticking to the muffin wrapper and slightly burnt where it did stick. I should've gone with my initial gut which was to just order a veggie plate. I am extremely glad I didn't get the chicken as there was at least 10lbs of it sitting under a heat lamp. There is no substitute for fresh fried chicken and I'm sure people wouldn't mind waiting for it or placing a call in order to make sure it's fresh. I probably would visit again for some different veggies but not go out of way to this side of town for anything on the menu. I have driven by this location for years without realizing that it was there given its location on River Road. It is one of those hidden gems that you could pass by without a second thought. It was hard to believe that it has been there 19 years. I happened to notice one night driving by that this was in fact a restaurant and decided to stop in for a take out meal. The place is very clean on the inside with limited seating. The staff were very friendly and although they were preparing to close, were accommodating. Although they are apparently famous for Ox Tails and Turkey Legs, it is soul food and I ordered the Pork Chop with rice, broccoli with cheese, and lima beans. They were out of rice so I substituted candied yams. I could have ordered the collard greens or blackeyed peas, chicken or fish. The menu selection was wonderful, like being at a family reunion or church homecoming. My Aunt Faye could have cooked that meal in her kitchen and it would not have been better. The take out portion was generous and was enough for two. If you are going home via River Road give them a try. read more

I admire this restaurant from previous experience but recently, I went there and had negative encounter before even ordering. The menu on web and Facebook show different price. I called place order and was hung up on and second time was place on hold because customer service could not hear me. Then when I stated that menu was incorrect after representative told me actual price she got upset and told me it was only me that see menu on facebook has price difference that I am crazy and stupid...etc. I just wanted to advise them with customers like me look at menu that it would seem like price gouging consider it is listed on both web and Facebook different menu prices to update it. And the customer representative took it personally and called me poor because I ask her to notify tech to update for future people like me who work down street to understand menu and food prices so we can order. I have been coming here for years so it's shock to learn how people really feel about customer experiences with interacting with their business communications. All I can say is good luck! Not from this area but came today because hubbie is in the local hospital. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! The dark skinned lady that took my order was very unprofessional and snappy when asked questions about the menu. My chicken wings were not cooked properly- they was still bloody. When I took them back, she said, "well they cooked for 15 minutes, they only take 15 minutes to cook." Even after seeing the condition of the chicken, no apologies... she threw the chicken back into the grease with other chicken that was cooking. She then yelled, "chicken" as a way to let me know that the chicken was ready! The food was good but not worth it due to poor customer service and the uncleanliness of the place. I work hard for my money and I would much rather spend it at a place with great customer service and a place that appreciates the business! I am a patron who never writes reviews, good, bad, or indifferent. However, I just ate at Food Gallery and found a dead roach at the bottom of my ox tails and rice. As you can imagine this was a very horrifying event and what's even worse is this was my first time eating there. I will be perfectly honest, the food tasted amazing. I was even thinking to myself how I would be eating there again and sending my friend. They actually have a food grade of an A and even a "Golden Spatula Award." Despite that they clearly have roaches. To top it off the guy behind the counter was unapologetic and had the nerve to ask me if I wanted more food or my money back. I've read both reviews and I can honestly say that I have eaten at the food gallery and is still eating there and not once have I ever had a roach in my food. The food is always great and the have great service never has any problems... Great selection of food and even greater servings. That comment about the roaches is clearly absurd and it sounds like she is trying to tarnish one of the good black owned businesses. They have an A on the door and have won not 1 but to golden spatula awards so that speaks for itself. I LOVE THIS PLACE....ok so this is one of those restaurants that you could pass by and not acknowledge...I know i did many time until a friend of mines told me she had discovered this great soul food restaaurant where the food was a BANGER!!!...CERTIFIED GOODNESS!!!...LMAO!!!...the oxtail are sooooo good...and the mac n cheese and collards....YUM!!!...they give you good size portions for your money...a typical meal is about $10 (my normal...oxtail with rice, mac n cheese, collards with a cornbread muffin)...so worth it...If you have never been here you must try it...it's my grandma's cooking without the waiting and the punishment from dipping in the pots when she wasn't looking...ENJOY!!! read more

Never eat at the Food Gallery. Place was dirty and nasty. What establishment has roaches and different flying bugs. I ended up going to the food gallery because many of my co-workers said the food is "off the chain". The food is okay, but I saw roaches in the area the food is prepared and when I sat down to eat there were small little flying bugs. I packed my food and went back to work. As the other review stated they have an A from the health department. I am not sure what the health department was checking out or if you pay enough money you get an A, because this place did not deserve an A or even anything close to an A. I will never eat at this place. My health is more important then the OKAY food they make. read more

The writer from the April 2012 review is telling the truth. My colleagues and I went to the Food Gallery after raving reviews from other coworkers, who said the food was awesome. The four of us did order food, which was decent. However, while ordering, one of my colleagues pointed out a roach crawling along the wall near the stove under the Obama portrait. I wanted to leave immediately, but the party I was with thought it would be too rude and obvious. We did not stay, because after I selected a few sides and went to the table. They were packing up because roaches and other unidentified flying bugs had decided to take over the table. After returning to work and having serious prayer time, I consumed the few sides, which tasted fine, and I was careful to make sure nothing was moving in my plate. Needless to say, none of us will ever eat at the Food Gallery again, and we will warn family and friends. This establishment has an A and 2 Golden Spatulas, but it is definitely a dive, and only for the strong of stomaches and those who are not put off by roaches, and other bugs. read more
