Had Philadelphia roll and Monster roll. So freaking good! Came out to 30 dollars with tip included. Waiter was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend. Good clean eat!

LOCATION: Easy to get to, just a minute off 410 on the West side. Parking lot can be a little small in the busy, peak hours, but usually not bad. Staff has always been friendly when I've been. Inside, the aesthetics are nice with darker reds and blacks keeping the place feel private and modern. FOOD: I'm not a huge sushi fan, but I like the basic rolls like Philadelphia or California. The dynamite roll has jalapeños and was surprisingly good as well. I love Korean food, and it's cool to see they serve some. I really enjoy the Bulgogi, however, the number of onions served with it far outweighs the number of green peppers, which I would prefer to even out. That's a minor gripe. The Bulgogi doesn't taste like typical Korean restaurant, and the slices are a bit thicker than normal, but overall I really like their spin on it. Would recommend it for sure. DRINKS: We like to do Sake bombs where we order the sake and a beer, then drop a sake shot into the beer glass. Always a fun experience. OVERALL: Awesome place, good food and drinks, definitely a nice spot to keep on your radar. They have enough on the menu to keep it fresh every time.

Today we decided to try a new sushi restaurant we went to Hugo's. I have been seeing a lot of things about this place and I wanted to give it a try. It's a family owned operation which is pretty awesome to see. The restaurant had a good atmosphere. The waitress was amazing and super nice. I started off with a baked green muscles that had a little kick to it but nothing crazy the spicy mayo with the green onions was really good. I feel like it's hard to find bakery out here and this place was a spot to have it. The waitress gave us a complementary cucumber salad. It was very nice refreshing and sweet. I ordered two rolls and then she said it was buy two get one free so I got three. I got a Sunset. roll a Toro roll and then a king roll which I was told was the most popular. My wife got the lemon chicken with fried rice. and then of course, my son got chicken and fries, which was Dino nuggets. The rules are pretty good. My only complaint was there very small kind of gave me a feel that it would be like an all you can eat with the size but still wasn't bad. My wife liked her lemon chicken, but the sauce was a little thick she said all in all is a great meal.

Me and the midget felt like sushi. We were both having a rough week, and thought sushi was a great idea for a pick me up. If you have love food, in a healthy way, you know that sometimes good food can serve as a little pick me up. Well....wrong place to choose. It actually put us in a worse mood. Love the decor, the staff was adequate. Well the food was just a no. We started with calamari, chicken yakitori, and soft shell crab. The calamari was so thickly breaded, with no seasoning, and overcooked, that unless you knew you were ordering calamari you would have thought they were flavorless onion rings. The soft shell crab was the same thing. No seasoning and the crab tasted off. In the best restaurants that cook these items the breading is light and lets the ingredients shine through. They aren't fried and breaded to oblivion. The yakitori at least used the right cut of meat, but it felt more like a skewer with some weird sauce. Not traditional at all. My son order the Godzilla roll, and I decided to order bulgogi because honestly I got scared. When my son said his sushi was just a little better than heb, that's a problem. Here is the deal with sushi. It's driven by the quality of your ingredients. We mostly tasted cream cheese. The bulgogi was ok. Not great, but not bad. Overall we will not be coming back. Not cheap either, but if the food was better may not have been such a big deal. Will not be back.

San Antonio has a huge amount of sushi places, which makes it difficult to choose. This was my first time eating at Hugo's and I really enjoyed my meal. The place is clean and sparsely decorate. Service is good and food came out in a timely manner. I ordered two rolls to share and a cucumber salad. Portions were perfect for sharing and food was delicious. Prices were equivalent to other sushi places, so not cheap, yet food was well prepared. Hugo's was a good place to enjoy sushi.

Hugo's Sushi and Asian Cuisine might not grab your attention from the outside, but step in, and you'll find a cozy, inviting, and modern atmosphere. I visited during the lunch special and tried the sushi sampler, which included one roll and three pieces of nigiri. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and extremely satisfying. We also had the sesame chicken with fried rice, an egg roll, and miso soup. While enjoyable, it wasn't particularly memorable. The service, however, was a highlight--our server was friendly and even humored my friend's endless dad jokes. While Hugo's wouldn't be my absolute first choice for sushi, it's definitely a spot I'd visit again. Solid option for a relaxed and enjoyable meal!

The ambiance here is very relaxing and service is alway great. They offer sushi and sashimi. I had a poke bowl and it was delicious! Plenty of different rolls and other entrees if you are not a fan of sushi. My husband likes the Mongolian beef! Diamond poke bowl was very tasty!

Shirt review: Yes I would recommend this place, the gyozas were good, the egg rolls were tasty, and the sushi was very good. Food - the food was very good, I ordered the Texas Heat Roll and Tempura Roll. Also ordered the Gyoza and Egg Rolls for appetizers. Eel sauce wasn't the best, but I do recommend this sweet red sauce they serve with the enrolls. All I can say is that I will be back and you should visit. Service - the service was really good, very attentive and good customer service. Ambiance - the restaurant was very clean and the environment was very casual, the music and tv's in background are low enough to where you can have a conversation with someone. Very nice ambiance and layout of the restaurant.

Nice place in a strip mall. They have hot or cold dishes. They even have a low carb item for those watching their waistline. Friendly staff with a clean environment

Hugo's is located in small shopping strip. At. A glance, it doesn't look like a sushi restaurant. They offer sushi, poke and Japanese entrees. Some sushi rolls are traditional, but some are unique to them. I had the king roll, which was a typical sushi roll. My friend had a fried roll, the Texas heat. We both enjoyed our rolls. They have happy hour M-F 3-6pm. Our waiter was great. He was fast and friendly. Parking is available on site, but shared with the other businesses.

My wife and I came in on a Saturday evening around 6:30. The restaurant wasn't packed and had about 4 tables with people sitting. That would soon change around 7 when it started to pick up. Our hostess immediately sat us at our table, and we were greeted by our server "Ella." She seemed friendly and had a calmness and pleasantness to her demeanor (something you don't see much of anymore). Ella gave us a few minutes to decide what we wanted to order before coming back with our drink order. My wife and I decided to first order miso soup before ordering our sushi. The miso soup came out really quick. The miso had a nice balance of flavors and textures. The soup didn't disappoint. The tofu and seaweed in the soup wasn't underwhelming and had a good amount. Some places we have ordered at before have small bits of tofu, but that wasn't the case. For our sushi, my wife ordered the strawberry roll and rainbow roll. I ordered the dragon roll and Hugo's roll. The rolls came out in about 12 minutes or so. We've been to Hugo's sushi previously and noticed that if you order two rolls, usually the rolls will come out two to a long plate. I was skeptical about the strawberry roll, but the roll had a nice balance of flavors. The strawberries were fresh and complimented the other ingredients of the roll nicely. The fish in the rainbow roll was fresh and was a good portion. My rolls, the Dragon, and the Hugo rolls were a nice portion, too. With the Hugo roll, I really liked the crab meat they used on top. Some imitation crab can be a bit chewy and heavy on the mayo, but the consistency was not chewy. It didn't have too much mayo and went nicely with the other flavors of the roll. My only criticism was with the dragon roll. The shrimp tempura was fine in the roll, good flavor, and nice texture. But on top of the roll was on dab of Sriracha sauce. I was hoping for maybe some tobiko roe or a spicy mayonnaise. Maybe they make theirs different? I'm not sure. The taste was fine. I would have like to see a little more topping on the Dragon roll. All in all, I have never had a bad thing at this restaurant. The service was great, and the food was good, too. For my experience today, I would rate this a 4.5, but we've been here two other times, and both those times were 5's across the board. So, I'll give it a five for consistency. If you're not into sushi, there are other items on the menu (Chinese, Japanese, and a few Korean dishes) that you can choose from. So, if you're on this side of town and craving sushi, give this spot a try!

After Tuesday visit, the rating remains on 5, but only because we had an amazing time on Sunday. Maybe on Tuesday there was a different chef, but food just didn't taste the same, and a few Sunday dishes we asked for on Tuesday (standard menu) were sold out. Both times I had rice lager specially brewed for the restaurant, and it was delicious. An absolute highlight on Sunday was the dish called Hand of God - the smoky wagyu on top of the rice cake was just an absolute perfection, not anything I had before (this dish was not available on Tuesday). We also had similarly smoky vegetable roll which was also experience in itself. This was my first time at the sushi restaurant where waiter suggested that the nigiri pieces are perfectly ready to eat, require no extra soy sauce or wasabi, and should be picked up by hand instead of chopsticks - another wonderful experience. I also had few different nigiri piece, two different types of mackerel and uni - an absolute wow (on Sunday). Service was good both days, but still a little bit better on Sunday (better recommendations). Definitely recommended.

They have a garage attached and you can get it validated with the staff but it's kind of a complicated process for the amount of people coming per night for the restaurant. I would highly recommend making a reservation because every single table had a reserve sign on it. I got to try the gyozas, hamachi, shrimp tempura roll (not on happy hour menu), and various other rolls off the happy hour menu. My favorite was the gyozas and the hamachi. The gyozas had a nice sauce and it wasn't overly sweet. The hamachi tasted fresh and had good flavors. The rolls were not my favorite because they were very wet and not a lot of actual fish. My friend tried the fried fish dish and didn't enjoy it and he never complains about food. Service was odd too; they tried to act as if it was a bougie restaurant but the service didn't quite measure up. I felt a little rushed and our server wasn't really friendly. Interior is nice though.

We didn't realize this place was a cousin of Shiro and owned by the same guy until we saw some similarities in their style, layout and menu but nevertheless, the food was still absolutely amazing. Even though the ambiance had some similarities, I'm glad their food options were distinguished because otherwise could have just gone downtown. You cannot go wrong with any of their food options. Highly recommend doing family style so you can get a taste of everything and all the different flavors. We started with the gyoza and calamari which were to die for and were not greasy at all. Pork ssam, wagyu, miso pasta and octopus all brought a little bit of their own element and flare to your palate that it's hard to describe unless you try it. Wagyu was just melt in your mouth delicious. Pork ssam and octopus had their crunchy texture and umami flavors. The miso pasta added a light refreshing touch to balance everything out but don't let it fool ya, the noodles will expand in your stomach. We topped it off with their yuzu cake. Our only disappointment was they were out of their other desserts but nevertheless everyone of us left full and happy. Would come here again.

When I first read about Yozora, I honestly thought it sounded a bit pretentious. Fascinating, but…read morepretentious. Because the idea of music being an actual integral part of the dining experience--not just some kind of background noise--felt a little precious for my taste. I'm glad to admit I was wrong. So let's start with the ambiance and the vibe of Yozora. It's in a fairly non-descript kind of center; not bad but not specially memorable. But the space itself is open and has an air of restrained sophistication. And then there's that hi-fi set up. The music at Yozora really is part of the experience, but it's not intrusive in the way that you'd think. Most of what my dining companion and I heard was 50s and 60s jazz, and it was perfect for the occasion. Sushi and Coltrane are a great mix, and even though we were not far from the hi-fi system, I could hear every word of our conversation, without the need for either of us to raise a voice. Somehow, it's like the music operates on a different frequency from regular table chatter. Suffice to say, the music enhanced the mood and really set a scene for Yozora's chefs to tell some stories. And that, they do really well. We started out with seasonal tempura and miso masu ceviche--ocean trout marinated in miso, soy, and lime juice--that was sublime. But funnily enough, the real star small plate was a truffle creamy miso soup that was earthy and slightly sweet at the same time and was silky in texture. From there, we ordered a series of crudo and battera, each unique in its own way. It was wonderful stuff, accompanied by a rice lager. The kitchen at Yozora is not shy about experimenting with non-traditional flavors and ingredients. Sometimes it works really well; sometimes, not as well, but it's never bad, and the servers actually ask for feedback for the kitchen, which is something I rarely see. Yozora honestly seems to be most concerned with creating a great dining experience, and it does that, from the chefs to the line cooks to the servers (who are helpful and attentive without hovering). The music, the mood, and the menu add up to a memorable experience.

But hey, this is what the birthday girl wanted, so this is what she got. We came here after a full day at Six Flags, starving, and hunger definitely made for the best sauce. One thing we have to say about Wild Goji that is A+++: they have Hitachino yuzu ON DRAFT!! Hitachino is one of our favorite breweries, and we had tried this version when we are in Japan, and could not believe our luck finding it here! It's worth the price of admission alone. As for the food, well, it is what it is. Honestly, it's not terrible, but you can tell you're not getting the creme de la creme (unsurprisingly). We mostly stuck to tuna and salmon, but we did appreciate their spicy garlic edamame (not spicy at all) and their spicy seaweed salad (slightly spicy). We ordered tempura that we had to send back because the sweet potato wasn't fully cooked. Some of the dishes on the conveyer belt definitely looked unappetizing (like the omelet roll) and since we were towards the middle-end of the restaurant, we had to wait a while for food to come our way. Service is minimal, but the atmosphere is boisterous because these kinds of places are fun. We were smart to make a quick reservation on our way from Six Flags because the place was slammed by the time that we left. Three stars, but it'll remain a fond memory celebrating our daughter's 9th birthday.

I wanted some of the showier selections seen on IG, so I ordered the tuna tower and flaming Romeo & Juliet roll and a cute (albeit sweet) cocktail that came in a goldfish shaped glass. When the tuna tower arrived the young server asked me something several times which I couldn't hear over the music, so I just nodded. After she smashed the tuna tower, I figured out she was asking if I wanted it mixed. Lol my bad! I actually did not want it mixed but it was delicious anyway. The Romeo and Juliet roll took forever to stop flaming but once it died down, it was absolutely delicious. My partner enjoyed his roll as well and they gave him a complimentary birthday desert with sparklers. Overall I give service a 3. I would have liked a more professional presentation of the menu, hyping it up a bit. And a less soft spoken server. The food was a solid 5, everything was fresh and scrumptious.
