In my reviews I have gotten to go to many Mongolian BBQ places and this one really didn't have much to excite me. I can't complain about the food (much) of course cause I put that together, but the choices I had to make my food weren't the best I've seen and I followed a recipe for a sauce and it turned out kinda bland. Dinner tonight was well prepared by several Mongolian chefs working the round griddle table. They were enthusiastic and interactive with the guests, sang along to the music playing and seemed to enjoy their jobs. The protein and veggie counters were more than a little untended to, many containers spilled into their neighboring meat or veggie companions and the sauce station was a mess. Granted, we visited at prime dinner time on Friday night but there seemed to be ample employees moving throughout the restaurant. Our server was good with the refills and clearing plates as we finished, which is about the extent of their job, oh, and pushing the frequent diner rewards cards. Clearly they work well because a couple in our group got 2 free dinners today for being frequent guests and a birthday just rolled around. My gripes are for the cleanliness of the counters and that my dining partner desired an egg or two for her Asian dish but they didn't have those as an optional addition on the meat, noodle, veggie or sauce counters. We have mixed feelings about this restaurant. While the hibachi style cooking is different and fun and the atmosphere is pleasant and somewhat exciting there are some big negatives to this place that don't please us. Even though I am an intermediate chef I prefer an accomplished chef to plan and put together my meal when I go out to eat. I tried to work with their sauce recipes. One worked (spicy recipe), ok and the other failed (seafood recipe). There were two other people with me and they both were not completely happy with the flavors. For 12.95 all you can eat we think it is a bit high for a meal composed by us and carried to our table by us. Our waitress didn't do a good job explaining to us how the restaurant worked but we figured it out ok on our own. I also ordered soup which I never received. When I pointed that out she said she could get it now, after I had eaten my main dish. Not a good recovery. We think it would be a fun place for a date but for regular dining it is a poor choice. One of the chefs was entertaining and working hard and helped to make our experience a little better. Some other problems were: *small bowls that do not hold a good quantity of food and food was falling on the floor because of it. *sauces gathered buffet style causing sauces to drip into one another. Very messy. *Being told by one of the chefs that they were going to clean the grill now suggesting that I ought not decide to put together another dish. It was closing but seriously not a good move. "The shrimp was of basic low quality and small size. Which makes me wonder about the quality of the beef and chicken. *some of the selections were not labeled and I saw some people asking what some of them were. Great if you want Mongolian! The food is delicious, but they don't have many lighter options. The service is wonderful and accommodating - very helpful! The atmosphere is fun but a little bit cramped - there's not really any place to wait for seating. Great music though! It's fun to go through the grill and pick all of your own food. Ok food was good. I think it would take alot of trial and error to get it just right. The waiter was really nice. The down side the place was filthy. There was a lot to choose from with plenty of food, but the ultimate flavor was just okay. Probably because it was all cooked on the same surface, which mixed in a lot of flavors--it was entertaining to watch. Anyway, I had that yucky oily taste in my mouth for over an hour afterward. Perhaps I've been spoiled by the greatness that is Genghis Khan in Kansas City, but HuHot left a LOT to be desired. There are no special cooking or plating procedures for vegetarian diners. Their tofu is straight-up RAW and, thus, does not cook well. The sauces area was a sticky mess. The cook that day was either new, inexperienced, or didn't make the grill hot enough, because our meals were greatly undercooked. The "greeter" was unfriendly, and the entire waitstaff was pretty cold, in general. We left very unsatisfied. read more

They have a good selection of meat options however they lacked lamb. Typical vegetables as well as three types of noodles. The only qualm I had with the general experience was with the sauces. They have premixed sauces which are good however they don't have just soy sauce which makes it difficult if one wishes to have more of just soy sauce for the cooking. There is however soy sauce at the tables, but it isn't quite the same. There is sesame in the sesame oil, but there is not a separate bowl of sesame seeds which was unfortunate. Our waitress was nice and attentive, however the meal stated it included an option of soup or salad and she never asked which we would like. It is likely that I could have mentioned it, however if I had not read it on the menu I might not have known that option existed as it was never brought forth. We went on a busy night and it was good to see that they had stocked the appropriate number of cooks so that the food was cooked in a reasonable amount of time. In short however Mongolian BBQ is fairly difficult to make badly and it is also fairly difficult to make exceptional and this was no different. The food was good, but it was not memorable. That said however if you haven't had Mongolian BBQ and want a decent place then this is a good choice considering the options available. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go with my friend and his wife. i swore that Ving Rhames worked there..thats what a likeness one of the cooks actually bore. i generally have a ton a of food (we all do) when I go here...the price is right too and my pockets aren't bleeding when I pick up the tab. Its an All you can eat place so don't be shy..The sauces range form mild to red hot...so its always good to experiment with each dish. read more

We will not return to either of the HuHot locations. The seafood was not fresh and had a distinct, foul order. The presence of flies was disgusting. The sauces area and the grill counter were greasy and dirty as were the condiment containers on the table. The floors needed a good scrub and as well as a thorough vacuuming. My wife,2 year old son and I attended this location on 8/12/15. It was our first trip here and the staff and ESPECIALLY the heavier cook ( Supervisor?) make our visit to this location exceptional. We were greeted promptly by the hostess, our server/s (original server had to leave due to emergency) were both prompt in making sure that we had our drinks topped off and our plates cleared and the grill cook was helpful, friendly and very polite. It is ok if you haven't tried anything else in your life. First of all, if you freeze your meat before cooking it, that should tell you off the bat that its going to not be as good. Fresh meat is always the best. Coming from California I have tried many Mongolian grills and many use fresh meat. Taste way better and cost the same. HuHot is the place we always seem to go to when shopping in Sioux Falls. Yes when they are super - busy the place can get a little messy. A sort of build it yourself and watch them cook it buffet there's only so much they can do to clean up as the hordes of people go through the line, then back up again for seconds, thirds, etc. The selection of meats and vegetables is excellent and the food quality has never disappointed. When it comes to the sauces, what you select and in what combination will either make or break your meal. But once you find the perfect combination you are guaranteed to have a delicious lunch or dinner. As long as the guy at the grill is even semi-competant anyway. In fact the only times I have ever been disappointed with HuHot was because the person at the grill did not seem to understand how to flip or fry food. Fortunately that is the rare exception and not the rule. 4.5 stars in your book. read more

We usually love this place. BUT tonight it was terrible. The service was horrible. Brought rice when all our food was almost gone. Had to ask if we were going to get our soup and salad. Huhot. has two locations. ive only tried one of them but several times. I recommend a glass of water as soda is over $1.25 per (estimate... 12.5oz glass) and water will be your best friend the rest of your stay. they ask that you only take 1 bowl but i take two(its okay! you wont get yelled at). otherwise you're over flowing 1 bowl and you lose ingredients ive never tried the fish(besides shrimp- but shrimp is a side option) but between beef and pork i would recommend beef as pork seems to not mix with the rest. there are 3 types of noodles to pick from i usually go with the.... dry yellow ones (ive never tried the white ones and the other wet noodles make your meal turn out rather.... undesired) Make your way to the second selection table and pick all the vegetables and sides you want. (jalapenos, snow peas, green beans, broccoli, peppers, and a bunch of other stuff i dont know what is called but is yummy too) then you go to the third selection table which is all the sauces to cook your food in. i like mine hot so usually i do 1 spoon of ... (idk what it is) but there are probably 20 selections to choose from. ive never tried their little ideas of getting the hottest sauces combined(this ...'Menu' is above the third selection table) but if you add too much sauce you food tastes bland. so be lenient with the sauces... then follow the line ( if there is one) when they are busy there is a line the whole way to the cooks. when they're not the cooks watch you pick your food =) (ooohh! intimidating) but either way they cook the food infront of you. i like this for two reasons. i get to smell my delicious meal being made. and i know that nothing else that i wouldnt want dropped into it is added.. you continue in line cause from your spot in line is how they know which plate of food is yours. then there are chopsticks and cheater chopsticks at the end of the line. as well as some extra seasonsings and the tip jar. carry it to your table... and enjoy!! (payment proccess has always been akward for me) i like to pay and leave quickly. i dont like wasting time sitting around waiting for them to take my money. i usually give them 2 minutes to take my card before i stand up and take it to the register at the bar Personal Experience tips: -they have wine as a sauce and (it is wine) dont drink and drive... or eat food gourged in wine and drive =) -get probable a max of 2 spoons of sauces or if you're combining them get a half spoon of each. -Stuff yourself =) cause the bills gonna be higher than you would think. Especially if you got a soda or drink other than water. -each table has a bottle of some sweet sauce that adds flayvor if your food is bland. -if you dont like it. dont eat it, and go try again =P you dont have to eat every last bite off your plate. normally your plate you leave behind will even be gone before you get back with your next plate. In all- GREAT food thats not your usual but price is a bit higher than you will expect. My son and I are Asian food eaters. We look for the best where ever we go. I skipped the HuHot on first recommend from some strangers, but my sister knew what I liked and took me there on a Friday night and vowed I would like it. I was skeptical, but free makes a meal taste better and besides I was not impressed by the Chinese restaurant I visited the previous night. I was not afraid to use the spicy sauces and stuck primarily to meat, sausage small amount of noodles and some baby corn. The management were top rate making their rounds... got to know the GM and 2 Jr managers, the wait staff was.. well, people. Generally I got someone who interacted with me in a very pleasant and sincere way which pleases me to the point I can say, "what can go wrong with her taking care of me?" The cooks were proud of their work and there was one a little grouchy, but I had to visit there 5 times in 7 days to find him. We just need to pray for him, he needs some lovin. There is no way that one person could ever bring this place down from 5 stars because every other aspect over compensated to excess. I hope to make it back there to Sioux Falls 41st Street HuHot during the Christmas season to share this experience with my son and see the staff again. I have been to HuHuot on several occasions and absolutely love it. However, the experience I had last night was far from enjoyable. Our server was abrupt, rude, and unfriendly. She did not greet us when she came to the table, just asked if we wanted a drink and some rice. She then slammed her book shut and turned to walk away. I asked if the dinner comes with salad (something a lot of people don't know because the servers never say anything) and she rolled her eyes, huffed, and said, "Yeah." The soda she brought me didn't taste like Dr Pepper so it probably had just run out of syrup, but I couldn't tell her because she never came back to check how everything was. Another server rolled her eyes at me when she almost ran into me. Also, while we were getting our food, one of the employees kept running into my friend while cleaning the floor and veggie table and acting like we were in her way. It was just a super unpleasant experience and I was really disappointed with the service we received. read more
