It's the end of an era…read more I remember first discovering Lillie Belle's magical chocolate at Phil Lesh's 70th birthday celebration at Bill Graham. It wowed my tastebuds in a profound way. It's been 15 yrs since then. Lillie Belle - closed up shop this month - after 24 yrs of delighting people with their handmade artisan chocolates. Thank you Lillie Belle for bringing so much joy and goodness to the world. Trust. See original review back in 2010 below: For me - chocolate is seeped in nostalgia. I can remember spreading chocolate hazelnut spread on toast in Jakarta. I remember my first Snicker bar in Bali. Lying stomach-down with a Kit-Kat bar - on my great Aunt's carpet in Wales. Playing faux fondue parties with my barbies with a Cadbury Creme Egg in New Jersey My stomach groaning after a trippy Cadbury Factory tour, with excessive free chocolate- in England And the spicy kick of a Lillie Belle Farms' Crunchy Fire Bar comprised of sugared Pecans and Firey Chilis in dark Organic single origin chocolate - at a Furthur show in San Francisco. Given to me by a regal looking nine-year old redhead with a thin purple glow-stick weaved into her braids. And later - sweetly- given two other bars - - by her just as amazing nine year old friend; clutching a tye-dye plastic ball. As I snapped off pieces of those bars - beneath the moving iridescent colorful lights, while the soaring chords of a guitar wrangled my soul - I felt like I finally understood it all. Understood why. Why chocolate is so alluring. So seductive. I understood - as the brash kick of chile lingered at the back of my throat - intermingled with a coating of bitter sharp dark chocolate. Lillie Belle Farms now has a permanent imprint on my chocolate memories. So much so - that I've already ordered a couple of bars of chocolate from their website Even browsing through their site - makes me happy. I appreciate the simple packaging of their bars. Their straightforward organic ingredients. And moreso I love that I first discovered Lillie Belle Farms in a dark-love-filled-music-blessed concert space in San Francisco. Trust.

But if you want something special, go looking for to-die-for real butter. Go look in the gourmet cheese section and snatch up a cube of the most sensational, imported butter I have yet to find. Not only is it fresh and pure tasting, it has little nuggets of sea salt blended in. The itty bitty crunch and unforgettable flavor will make your eyes roll. And dont forget to get a baguette or two. They have them there, but I am also a great advocate for the fine, freshly baked bread from one of the many wonderful bakeries in town. It's a real treat to step inside this special market. It's clean, nicely organized, emits wonderful smells, tantalizes your inner gourmet, and feeds your health conscious soul. I find myself feeling like a kid in a candy store.

Back story first: A week ago it was my husband's and my wedding anniversary. We both forgot it. So…read morewe were both scrambling to do something special for each other. I needed to drop a package off at the UPS store next-door and happened to see next to an adorable hunter green Model A truck an enticing sign that said Harry & David had fresh chocolate-dipped strawberries in the store, which my husband happens to love. I went in and got some and they were absolutely exceptional. This week I gave a Victorian tea and I remembered those fabulous chocolate-dipped strawberries. Unfortunately, when I went in yesterday to pick up more, the last box had just been sold. I was told that, Audrey, the talented lady who puts them together was coming in this morning and it might be on her agenda to make more I called first thing when the store opened and talked to a really wonderful young man who told me they would do their very best, if possible, to get some to me before my tea began. At 11AM my phone rang and it was Erica who told me that Audrey had made the chocolate -dipped strawberries. I could not believe it!!! Talk about GREAT customer service! My husband drove down, bought them and drove them back before the ladies started arriving for tea. Those super-fresh chocolate-dipped strawberries were the absolute hit of the tea, and everyone was both impressed and delighted by how kind the folks at Harry & David were. Thank you to all of you!!!

Two-day shipping was required because it was a plant, and I was fine with that. Delivery was still delayed another couple days, and the plant arrived quite wilted. I contacted H & D about it - what a customer service FIASCO! On the phone with some AI system that spent 80% of the time verifying my order even though I had all the info handy, then after all that, it couldn't help me. Asked repeatedly to be transferred to a human, was put on hold for 14 minutes, then mysteriously sent to a survey never having spoken to a human being, and then it disconnected in the middle of the survey. And yet, their website says, "Our Guarantee: You and those who receive your gifts must be delighted, or we'll make it right with either an appropriate replacement or refund. Always." Harry and David, DO BETTER! Pathetic.
