What a delightful place. The amazing smell of freshly baked bread permeated the parking lot. We ordered a delicious vegetarian burrito. It was perfect, as we were passing through town. For many years, I've performed regularly with various jazz groups at La Baguette Cafe in Ashland. Although I recently moved to Kansas City, it's quite likely that I'll eventually return, and I want to take this opportunity from afar to thank Jenika, Merrill, and their staff for everything that they do for the Rogue Valley: La Baguette is well known in the area for its great music, its excellent food, its pleasant setting (facing Grizzly Peak!), and its friendly staff and patrons. The owner Merrill took out double what he should have been from my kids' paychecks, pays from his personal bank account, paid them minimum wage to come in at 4am even after a year, never sent out their W2s, and yelled at me when I asked for him to mail them, saying he didn't have their address despite them filling out forms in the beginning, then yelled more saying he "doesn't care" that employees are required to mail them. He's extremely irate out of nowhere. I understand why my kids preferred to just have the IRS request them from him. Truly disgusting behavior and money on it that on the W2s, he tries to say he didn't withhold as much as he did. As that's what he did the year prior. He didn't pay their friend her last paycheck when she quit as he "didn't feel she deserved it". An adult man who is thieving from high school children. read more

This is a hangout breakfast spot for my circle of friends. Over the years that we've been eating at La Baguette, I've become friendly with the owner, Merrill. If you don't have a problem with carbs, try the Blueberry Bagel (it's stuffed with cream cheese and blueberries). It's insane, and I may have gained 30 pounds when I ate 1-2 of their housemade bagels per day, and now I can't eat them anymore. Since the closing of Deux Chats, I find there is a new best baked goods place in town, and La Bagette is it. A lot of places around Ashland source their breads from here, and I can see why. My favorite thing here, and it's hard for me to not get it 2-3 times a week, is their stuffed bagel. It's a soft, perfectly chewy bagel that can have a variety of fillings. This is reason enough to come here. The filled bagels come in several options: Chicken sausage + Cheese, Parmesan, Olive + Cream Cheese, Sun-Dried Tomato + Cream Cheese, Jalapenos + Cheddar, and several sweettooth varieties too. I have never heard of "stuffed bagels" before coming here. It's life changing. Okay maybe not quite "life changing" but seriously the Chicken and Cheese Stuffed Bagel was divine. I also paired it with the Berry Hibiscus Tea Lemonade which was wonderful. The atmosphere was laid back. I went during late morning on a Friday and there were two gentlemen playing guitar. Gayle and I always stay at the Peerless when we're in Ashland. Sometimes the associated Peerless Breakfast includes a very tasty scone or other baked goods from the Hardware Cafe. The Cafe (along with La Baguette) is a little hard to find in its relatively anonymous store front along A Street in the Railroad District. The relaxed and a bit funky inside is fairly roomy and sometimes features live music. On the next trip, I'll have to try the cinnamon rolls. read more

Well this place was so much fun that I came back twice in the same morning. Upon my first arrival I wanted a baguette. Presto the baker reaches into the oven and pulls one out that is still warm. OMG I ate the whole thing. We wanted to meet a friend later that morning so I suggested we go to the cafe. Boy am I glad we did. The Bagel is just right, she had some chicken sausage which was very tasty, and our guest had the huevos rancheros and he was quite pleased. If you have some time to kill and are parked on or near Main St., take a stroll down 2nd, 3rd, or 4th streets past early 20th Century bungalows to the Railroad District where there are several art galleries, an interesting hardware store, the Grange Coop, the peerless 19th Century Peerless Hotel and restaurant, and other businesses along with the Hardware Cafe. Affiliated with La Baguette, this small cafe sells breads & pastries plus a few entrée items. I had the Cuban tamale with beans & rice; a slice of plantain was an added bonus. A tomato-based sauce covered part of the food. The flavors were excellent. Baby corn & tiny pieces of red bell pepper were in the rice. I just waited 15 minutes for a blackened bagel to go. So here we are. Everything I have tried here so far has been mediocre-ok, although the service is always nice. It's in a good location for all of the little businesses in this side of the town. Not for the gluten free or Organic crowd really. always stopped by for live music for the 1st Friday Art Walks, so coming in for breakfast is a whole new experience- yet still smells amazing upon walking in. The people working today were both extremely friendly & helpful in everything they had available- it's also cool to know, for the future, that they have tapas available in the evening! I got a house-brewed matcha chai tea with hemp milk... it's nice & spicy, slightly sweet & really helps warm you up on such a drizzly day. The cuban tamale is wonderful! The spices are intense, yet not overwhelming, the chile underneath gives the creamy masa extra depth & the red sauce is just on point. I'm equally impressed by their 'apple baked beans', which add a subtle sweetness overall & help brighten up the dish. There's even a fun pickle-y slaw with cilantro on the side to act as a palate cleanser. Overall, a nice meal for $10.50! This is the absolute best bagel I've ever had on the west coast. Perfectly soft with a good crust, cream cheese baked right into it, and oh my lanta the different fruit/flavor options in the bagels is amazing. The blueberry cream cheese bagel is my favorite! And the staff is so friendly and cheery -Mollie (not myself, we have the same name!) is great with explaining the menu items and making small talk. I have yet to explore much of the rest of the menu but trust me, I will!! This place is definitely worth a stop! Went into this establishment with the hopes of purchasing some bread and assorted other goods only to be ignored by the staff (It was my first time here.) I would have assumed a business makes a product in order to sell to make money to pay its employees. It would have been nice to try some of their goods but it appeared nobody really cared. It was very quazi california attitude (if you're not a regular, go away-behavior.) There are plenty of other bakeries around so don't waste your time with this one. One of my favorite places in Ashland. Off the tourist path. I often get the breakfast burrito and my spouse gets the Cuban tamales. Our dogs are welcome and we enjoy the patio. If you're lucky, you'll hear live music. The baked goods are delicious...chewy and gooey cinnamon rolls and bear claws with marzipan are our favourites. Logan is one of the nicest people on earth. La Baguette is a place for folks who don't want to feel like they do at starbucks, or mix. its not super trendy or posh. they don't have matching cups. But, what they do have is a lot of heart. The people there may seem distant, but they also work their butts off way too early in the morning and ARE trying to be pleasant with their customers and each other. As people, this isn't always easy for us. My best guess is that if you're friendly, you'll find others friendly too. And if you're super space cased and telling someone about your life story while their working on five different things, trying to keep all their customers happy... you might be told "that's nice" and she probably genuinely meant it. IT is nice that you're trying out new places. La Baguette is kinda hard to find, but its on A street, in a shopping center. A push by the city of Ashland to get more commerce in the historic railroad section. So, open your eyes, not everything needs to be pointed out to you by a robot. To the guy who complained about there being flour in the air, are you serious?? Its a bakery bro. They used pounds and pounds of flour to make bread. That is how it is done. Try making some at your house and see how contained you can be. Then try with a 50 pound bag. The music is played, and played by not only the talented owner, but also by the customers. If you want to (and know how to properly) play the instruments, make some music. That is why it is there, for people to have a connection with. La Baguette is a family owned bakery, they are small scale and involved in the community. Their bread is delicious, and my favorite is the plain ole sourdough loaf. Please, for all you who are writing reviews, try to understand that being a pompous dick and applying bitch ass standards to everything is a waste of your time and a pollution to your mental space. Chill out and go somewhere you like. Do things you like. Talk about things you like. It is good to feel good. I feel good at La Baguette, and lots of other loyal customers do too. We like new faces.
