Back story first: A week ago it was my husband's and my wedding anniversary. We both forgot it. So we were both scrambling to do something special for each other. I needed to drop a package off at the UPS store next-door and happened to see next to an adorable hunter green Model A truck an enticing sign that said Harry & David had fresh chocolate-dipped strawberries in the store, which my husband happens to love. I went in and got some and they were absolutely exceptional. This week I gave a Victorian tea and I remembered those fabulous chocolate-dipped strawberries. Unfortunately, when I went in yesterday to pick up more, the last box had just been sold. I was told that, Audrey, the talented lady who puts them together was coming in this morning and it might be on her agenda to make more I called first thing when the store opened and talked to a really wonderful young man who told me they would do their very best, if possible, to get some to me before my tea began. At 11AM my phone rang and it was Erica who told me that Audrey had made the chocolate -dipped strawberries. I could not believe it!!! Talk about GREAT customer service! My husband drove down, bought them and drove them back before the ladies started arriving for tea. Those super-fresh chocolate-dipped strawberries were the absolute hit of the tea, and everyone was both impressed and delighted by how kind the folks at Harry & David were. This review is for their main store in Medford, Oregon. It seems like the one star reviews are for their mail order. I have a feeling, that most of the mail orders go very well, but people don't write reviews of those. But hey, my opinion and a couple of bucks will get you a cup of coffee...Aaaaanyway...... I had not been into a Harry and David store, since they closed them all due to the pandemic. They are starting to reopen them, and the Home store here in Medford has always been open. I have not been up here in years as well. It's just a fantastic store. All of the goodies that you could get in their gift baskets are available. They have a good fruit and vegetable section, a frozen food section, wine, and hard cider section, lots of. Gourmet goodies as well. My absolute favorite Harry and David product, is their "moose munch" gourmet popcorn. They have lots of different flavors, and it is so good Prices overall are reasonable, but they are definitely higher on the high-end items. Lobster pot pie, anyone? They do offer a military/veterans discount, Plus, as an added bonus, it's Oregon! You can still get your groceries in plastic bags, and also, NO SALES TAX!!! it's the little things, people...... They are always running specials, as well. I was there in late, January, so they we're still running a lot of after Christmas specials. A 5 pound box of their pears was running for only eight dollars, not a bad deal at all. I took a box to my sister down in Redding, and she said that they were delicious. We were recently gifted a lovely box of delicious snacks for the holidays. In the past we have given their pears and gift boxes, but this is the first time we were on the receiving end. Our box had summer sausage, cheddar cheese, and crackers. Perfect for a light "dinner". It also contained moose much popcorn -- one all caramel; one chocolate. In addition there were upscale mixed nuts, assorted truffles, shortbread cookies, and chocolate cherries. Wow! We are so lucky to have such generous friends. Some things we sampled right away, and some things we are saving for the future. If you're lucky enough to be on the receiving end, you'll know what I mean. Our gift came fedex right to our door. Growing up, I remembered Harry & David always being a big deal - such a bougie gift. It's always been my go-to for sympathy gifts but after this last experience I think I may have to move on unfortunately. The snack basket was ok - definitely not the presentation quality it used to be - but the plant was so sad and definitely NOT how they present it on their website! My dear friend in Utah lost her father. So I ordered one of the sympathy baskets with their signature pears and lots of other snacks. The website photo is definitely presented much more beautifully than it actually arrives - but all the items were included and my friend loved the quality of the goodies. I also ordered a lilly flower bush in a ceramic pot with an angel ornament. My friend loved the gesture and loved the ornament. But the plant was so sad - the leaves were yellowing and the plant was way overgrown and unkept - and the pot they sent was too small for the plant itself. Very poor quality - I'm so embarrassed!! Ordering on the website as easy enough and they have lots of choices and options. My gift arrived speedily so that was no issue. I'm just very disappointed in the quality this time. Harry and David were always my go to for gifts for family and friends. It's been years since I placed an order. My best friend Shirley has been through a lot lately with the loss of her only child. She has been so supportive and kind to me sending my daughter and me gifts during my recovery. I wanted to make her birthday next week special. So! Low and behold Harry and David had huge Holiday Gift Sets for 50% off! The downside is shipping was $30! Good news she received the gift very quickly! She took a picture but not of the fruit. I don't want to bug her for better photos. I do get nervous when packages are left on doorsteps. She was at work when it was delivered. When she got home she let me know she received it. So far she hasn't eaten anything because she said she is having fasting blood sugar test this morning and can't eat anything until afterwards! I'm hoping that the fruit is fresh and delicious. I sent a gift basket to my son. It arrived with rotten pears and apples. I contacted customer service. They sent out a replacement. It arrived with rotten fruit, also. And they sent out the wrong pears. Not the gold wrapped ones. I called and requested a refund. Quite embarrassing for a Christmas present. They had absolutely no emotion that it was a horrible gift to receive. It must happen frequently. I have sent these type of gift baskets from them for years, with great fruit. Not ever again. I've had good service and good products from Shari's Berries, Things Remembered, and Personalization Mall and 95 percent of the time good experiences with 1-800-flowers.com who are do offer excellent customer service! This company started with pears, their "Royal Riveria" pears. In 1910, Samuel Rosenberg traded his prized Hotel Sorrento for 240 prime acres of pears in Southern Oregon's Rogue River Valley, and there, the soon-to-be-named Bear Creek Orchards were later taken over by his two sons, Harry and David Rosenberg. I spent $72 to send my mother something special for Mother's Day. I wanted a smaller basket as she is older and can only consume so much fresh fruit before it goes bad. However, for that amount, she received 2 apples, 2 pears and 2 little pieces of cheese. Needless to say, I was extremely embarrassed to find out this is all she received. The picture looked much nicer than this pathetic expression of any kind of sentiment. To start, we always get 20% off our orders and free shipping, based on the amount of money we spend sending gifts to our clients every year. This year my boss charged me with the task of placing the orders. Well--for some reason they could not and would not give me the 20% code to place the order myself, or would they honor the free shipping we normally get, no I had to buy their passport program AND painstakingly place 12 orders over the phone. In the two hours I was on the phone with the agent, I had to repeat names, spelling, and addresses 2-3 times PER client. I hade a relatively easy order, 8 clients were getting the same basket priced at $89.99, and 4 clients were getting a different basket priced at $69.99. 12 clients, two different products. So you you want to explain to me WHY one of the clients got a different basket for $250?! So then I had to spend another HOUR on the phone correcting it with a different agent. Oh and that 20% off that they could only give me over the phone? A whopping $50. At that rate, it would have been easier to just place the order online myself. Since allegedly correcting the order they have not sent me an updated order conformation, and despite playing ABC's with the service rep and spelling clients names over and over again, she still misspelled several of my clients names. It's a poor reflection on our company while Harry and David shrugs and says ooopsie. Harry & David and its mega 1-800-Flowers ownership are scam artists of the worst magnitude, to the extent of literally retaliating against consumers who complain about receiving substandard food products!! In our case, family members had sent a 93-year-old woman a birthday package of items that were dangerously sugar-laden, of substandard quality, terrible tasting, and impossible to eat--prompting us to call and ask for a make good package, exactly as Harry & David advises customers to do per its fraudulent "satisfaction guarantee." But instead of providing the make-good items, we were insulted for complaining, told to tell the sender to never buy from Harry & David again if we weren't satisfied, and...worst of all, the elderly senders of the gift package were rudely and improperly contacted by Harry & David and made to feel like garbage! Harry and David's so-called "exectutive team" is also a crude joke, and does nothing more than mock, taunt and insult the innocent customers or gift recipients who call to report a substandard product issue. This company had the audacity to make my elderly mother cry! And again, to call the gift sender to make them feel like dirt! Be smart and be safe---do NOT spend any of your hard-earned money with Harry & David, as it is not appreciated. Sigh. So many years without incident. Until this year. Annually, I make a point to order using my saved and established Christmas list, usually before Thanksgiving to beat the rush. 2024 was no different. In trying to navigate online, I noticed that it was incomplete with missing names and people. I called their toll free number and verbally placed my order. It took about the usual amount of time and I used various codes from the catalog and emails to get price and/or shipping discounts. As usual, after this, I got a confirmation email and soon thereafter the details from my order. In scanning the list, I noticed one person's last name misspelled. I called them and asked them to correct it though, on one of the update emails, it showed the gift already being sent. After reading their frequent email updates which are confusing, I noticed all the gifts were delivered by 12/20th and most recipients thoughtfully thanked me. There were two that read shipped without a confirmed delivery date when I called Monday 12/23rd. The lady said it would be delivered before Christmas but I wasn't so sure. You can imagine my blood pressure. Thankfully, I got an email Christmas eve morning telling me they were delivered on Monday. Until now, my Christmas gifting has been smooth with this year being the exception. I don't believe calling earlier would help. I'll have to give some thought on this in October this year. read more

I got to try Harry's Gift Box, which comes with a mix of fresh fruit and savory accompaniments. Their Royal Riviera® Pears are grown in orchards located in the Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon. Each one is handpicked, stored at 30.5°F for several days, and cleaned/sorted before being packaged and sent out. During the off-season, you may receive Washington d'Anjou pears instead. The pears continue to ripen while in transit. Mine were not ready to eat when they arrived at my doorstep, so I left them in the box for 2 additional days at room temperature. Slight discoloration here and there, but no major bruises or cuts. Slicing through these pears was like running a knife through butter, it was the sweetest and softest I've ever tasted! Everything else was good to fine to okay. Moose Munch® popcorn is addicting to eat. I found the three-seed hors d'oeuvres crackers boring. Sharp white cheddar cheese, hickory-smoked sausage, and mixed nuts tasted ordinary. Not something I would personally gift someone (no offense to the gift giver who sent this) because it feels generic and impersonal. But I appreciated it nonetheless. They ship fruit that is either over-ripe or damaged, and their boxed crackers, candies, and nuts are barely of discount store quality. Their salami-like products and cheeses are highly processed and made with such poor ingredients that even mice and rats might refuse to eat them. I love Harry & David. I first learned about this company when I lived in Rochester, MN. Back then, there was a Harry & David store at Medford Outlet Center, which is now called Ultra Outlets of Medford. It's located in Owatonna, MN. I got into cheesecake for the first time. I'd get an 8' cheesecake and carefully indulge in a slice here and there. It was creamy and so good. I'd often get the original and chocolate swirl. I loved the Moose Munch. I'd get bags of this addictive snack. The deals at this outlet store were great. Sadly, this store no longer exists at this outlet mall. Frankly, I haven't been back because there isn't a reason to visit it anymore. Over the years, practically all Harry & David stores have closed. I used to visit their stores in Orlando, FL and Bloomington, MN. These days, you can visit the flagship store in Medford, OR or place your order online. When I moved back to the greater Toronto area, my late friend from Iowa sent me a fruit gift basket from Harry & David. I'm not sure how this company managed to get fruit over the border, but I remember eating the best pears that I have ever had in my life. It was so thoughtful of her and such a happy memory. When I got laid off and had applied for my current job over a decade ago, I got my grad school advisor to be my reference. He helped without any hesitation. I paid it forward by getting him a thank-you gift basket from Harry & David, which he appreciated by letting me know that he was delighted to receive it. Over the years, I have bought everything from baklava, to chocolate-covered mixed fruit from this company. I like that you can get milk and dark chocolate. Everything was yummy. I ordered the Deluxe "Happy Birthday" Gift Basket (Product Number: 30119X h) for our son, to be delivered to be delivered at his apartment in Hartford Connected. Received a delivery confirmation, and the payment was taken out, but the basket was not delivered. My son went to check as soon as the message was received, but there was nothing. His birthday is in 2 days and now we're left with no gift. The next nightmare had been getting hold of customer service. Just spent an hour texting their customer service, trying to get an order resent, the additional shipping charge refunded and a complimentary item sent to the recipient to make up for my gift NOT ARRIVING IN TIME FOR A FUNERAL! Promises were made for the resending and refund, but they could not even direct me to a person or department that could help send a complimentary gift. They did not fix the problem! By resending, they only honored the original commitment. I will never use them or their "sister" company, Harry and David's again. Really, REALLY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. My husband ordered a $200 gift basket via two day air that did not arrive on time for his Mother's birthday. Not even close. It then sat on her porch for 3 weeks because they had left for vacation. So my husband called and they said they could not issue a refund but as a courtesy they could send another basket and they gave a promised date for delivery (when his mom would be home again), but that one never even arrived. Why? Because they never shipped it, and claimed they've had problems with their ordering platform. So once again we have another promise date for delivery a week and a half from the day I'm writing this review. My husband sat on a chat with L&D for over an hour to try to resolve this, and got disconnected once during the chat and had to start over again with another rep. My firm been using Harry and David for several years to send Christmas baskets to our clients. Until this year, the service has been great. However, all that has changed. Because of the amount we spend each year, one of their agents reached out last year and offered free delivery. She gave me the phone number and told me to ask for her personally. When I did this, the request was denied. Further, we had a gift basket to be delivered to Canada. The website showed that we could have this done. I ended up calling customer service and after a 15 minute wait they informed me that this indeed could not be done. Between difficulties with the orders, speaking with HD representatives four times, etc., the whole process took in excess of four hours. When I emailed customer service to let them know what had happened, their response was less than adequate. "Please accept our utmost apologies for the inconvenience that you experienced. Our products and services have always been a source of pride here at Harry & David; however, on rare occasions a problem such as this occurs. We ask for your understanding as this unfortunate occurrence is the exception, and not the rule." Pretty unacceptable to someone who spends well in excess of $1,000/year on gift baskets. I asked for a replacement. It never came. CS Couldn't find order. Then couldn't cancel. Then couldn't refund. Then they just stopped answering. I finally had AMEX refund me. This place isn't what it once was.... now it's just a name with crap service, and crap products. What a shame. read more
