Been there twice. Tried the Tongan combo and wraps. The tongan combo was good, just wish it came with more rice without paying extra. The wraps are delicious if you like taro leaves with corned beef or pork. Try one if you've never had one. read more

Absolutely one of my favorites if not for the inconsistent service. It used to be hit and miss with the level of customer love, now it's 7% customer care and 80% fantastic food. Not worth the compromise anymore. A real smile and a genuine desire to serve great food is hard to fake. We won't be returning until we see some good reviews. If you are in Anchorage and have $12 to spend for dinner, your options are few and far between and you will most likely be hungry after. Hula Hands is a true exception to the generally overpriced food in town. My combo with beef stew, teriyaki beef, Mac salad, and rice was $12 and was big enough to feed a hungry cyclist who had just biked 500 miles. Oh yeah, the food was delicious too! This was my first and probably last time ordering from this place. I called asking to add pineapple to my sandwich (on an order that I had already placed for pick up) and was told me that my food had already been boxed. Not the best customer service. I asked if I could just have pineapple added on the side and then was told she would "talk to the chef and see what she could do". Apparently they didn't have pineapple which I found kind of strange considering that it's a Hawaiian restaurant.. I love, love, love Hula Hands!!! Like many Alaskans, our vacations were spent Hawaii. These vacations lead to me choosing to go to college in Hawaii for a brief spell. When I returned to Alaska I dearly missed the foods that I became accustomed to. Hula Hands filled that void. At one point my favorite combo to order was the combo with kalua pork, chicken long rice, and lomi lomi salmon, all of which are delicious. Unfortunately, that is much too much food for me. I'm not the world champion eater I imagined myself to be! Instead I now order the kalua pork lunch plate with an extra scoop of mac. Oh. My. God. The mac is sooooo delicious. I would almost give up everything else at the restaurant and eat a whole plate of mac. A while back my dad and brother were contemplating what to eat for dinner. I insisted, much to my brother's dismay, on eating here. My brother complained and my dad made a funny face. Ultimately that gave in, but they expected it to be some weird food. They're meat and potatoes sort of guys. Guess what?!? They loved it! They eat there on a biweekly basis now. When I graduated we had a BBQ and Hula Hands catered. I would strongly recommend this to anyone. Delicious crowd pleasing meal. We didn't have them personally come and serve or anything, but we ordered from the catering meal. I didn't have too high of expectations going here, but was still disappointed. I tried to like the place and wanted to give it a chance but I couldn't get past the uncleanliness and overall feel of the place. The walls were filled with stains that could easily be washed. The place could be nicer with not much effort. The food itself wasn't bad, but wasn't great. It came out very fast so the meat was probably heated up. Food was ok - I got the seared poke plate and the poke was thoroughly cooked. I had anticipated for the poke to be somewhat raw. Also, the marinade was salty.. seems as though the cook overdid it on the soy sauce. Customer service needs improvement. Upon entering the restaurant, all our waiter said to us was "dining in or taking out?" He didn't greet us or asked how we were doing.. you know, the typical customer service greeting. Throughout our visit, he didn't come by to see how we were doing or if we needed anything. He just passed by and noticed that my friend's cup of water was empty. Great food! The younger folks that work there will never win any awards for friendliness, but they are never unpleasant. There is one older lady there (Mt View location) sometimes and she is always very nice, but the rest...eh.. But the food more than makes up for it. This place was a pleasant surprise! Fairly simple decor does NOT prepare you for the delicious food to come. The Puleha Chicken was the bomb! Paired with the Kalua Pork was pretty tasty too! Cheap eats, delicious meats, and HUGE portions, to boot! (Easily enough for 2 meals). And our waitress (Nancy) was very friendly and attentive, with a great sense of humor. My husband and I absolutely love this place!!!! Their Palehu Chicken and Teriyaki Beef Plates are generous in meat and it is just by far the juiciest meat I've had. We chose this place more often than big chain restaurants like TGIF or Applebee's. read more

Honestly, this is pretty hard to do. However, I have. This place is pretty sad. Yup sad. I am islander and I wouldn't bag on any island spot. But come on!!! I stopped in to order 4 spam musubi with egg, 2 BBQ chicken musubi, 2 shrimp musubi with egg and 2 scoop mac salad. Keep in mind I did ask how long all this will take before I even ordered. My quote was 10-15 minutes. Sounds reasonable right? I was the first guy there ordering Togo food. And I ended up being the last guy leaving. Yup 40+minutes later. Get better. Yup they forgot 2 musubi, I had to go back inside. Forgot egg on one of the spam musubi and forgot the egg on both shrimp musubi. Oh this is the best part. The seaweed Dont even continue all the way around. yeah it's the whole bottom missing the seaweed. Normally I wouldn't say something. We islanders, sometimes things happen right? Wrong! Several years ago a family member visited wanted Hawaiian food, ordered, had a long piece hair. Family member mentioned it. They apologized but never took the plate away. Another friend of mine ordered some pulehu chicken. Yup was raw. I haven't seen it raw in awhile but it was raw that day. Yes that was a couple years ago. Had a co worker order mac salad, the mac was still in cooked and it tasted gummy and hard at times. Sure they ordered that when I worked my last job last year. Now i know the ceiling looks horrible and needs to be fix and the floor is all messed up and that needs to be fixed. The bathroom is trashed and the seating, sure it has that old Hawaii flair but this isn't old Hawaii. Cleanliness is everything. Customer service is everything. Food quality is everything. Now I wouldn't have complained and maybe you would say only once in awhile things happens. But you missed my point. It's been going on for years. Will I ever eat there again? Absolutely not! Do I recommend this place? Absolutely Not!! Am I'm Hawaii. My closest friend is related to Bill. I normally people WHO get mad is like. "Oh I'm going find this guy and mess it up for saying all this stuff" but the reality of it all, no matter how much you may want to get your revenge for such Comment, it still leaves the plain and simple truth. We loved to go there until tonight.My daughter had her purse stolen by two employees and if it wasn't for her persistence they would have gotten away with it.She was not going to leave with out it while I was outside I watched two employees go to a dumpster and soon after we discovered it on top. Hula Hands is one of my favorites. I go to the Fireweed location pretty often and I am never disappointed. I will say that the photos of the food are unappealing, but when it arrives at your table it is mouthwatering. Who would turn down macaroni salad and rice as a side EVER?! The best pulled pork in AK! Hula Hands opened a second restaurant on Fireweed that has more seating, is less smokey and has the same quality service and menu as their Mountain View location. I highly recommend their Kahlua Pig and Teriyaki Chicken with steamed rice and macaroni salad. read more

I have been coming here off and on for about a year. For the most part, I enjoy their food. This weekend however, it all went downhill. I ordered Musubis, it was done poorly but that wasn't the bad part. The rice was half raw. Now if you a local from Hawaii, you know rice is everything. Not to sure why they chose to serve me 10 musubis all with hard rice. It was so disappointing not to mention inedible. My kids would normally devour it within minutes and they couldn't even eat one. I really want to like this place - we've had good food there in the past, its locally owned, nearby, and something for everyone in the family to like. But the service this last visit was quite poor - not just island time slow, but island formation over geological time slow . We just left with my crying daughter after waiting forty-five minutes from order (and that was ten minutes after sitting) with no food in sight, a cook not in the kitchen, and an evasive waitress. I explained to my crying, hungry daughter on the way out that when you see service that poor and indifferent, one can't have confidence in their food handling and preparation. The restaurant seemed tired - not terribly well maintained, nothing fresh or interesting. They just seem to have lost interest. With all the restaurant choices in Anchorage, there's no reason to go back. read more
