I really enjoyed my lunch here today. I had the lunch special for 15.99 which gave me choices. I ended up with bulgogi, spicy tuna roll ( 4 pieces). Pot stickers(2), and miso soup. Everything was yummy! My hubby had beef fried rice which he said was "edible" but he proceeded to eat the whole bowl. Be ready to order at the counter in this small restaurant/take out business, and sit on high metal stools at wooden shelf-like tables located around the edge of the room. It's cozy and one can see out the front window. The counter person was friendly, brought out our orders, and kept the place clean. ( There are no bathrooms). The portions were generous and I brought some of my bulgogi home for later. I was all ready to give this little place A 5 ( which I rarely do) until I dumped my take home onto a plate to put in the microwave and found a hair. A medium length dark human hair. Yuck. Disappointed, I threw the food away. Couldn't see the kitchen there, wonder if the cook wears a cap? Anyway..I guess I'd give it a 3.5 now. read more

Place was great! The service was fantastic the woman who helped us was very kind and helpful in helping me make my decision on what I wanted. The place is set up very nice and definitely has room for you in a few friends. Not a huge area to sit and eat but more than enough. The food itself was fantastic and the portion was huge. I only was able to eat about half of that box and drink part of my suit. It was very enjoyable the next day as well for breakfast. If I'm in this area, I will definitely be back. read more

I'm a frequent customer and usually have no complaints, but this is the second time the quality of the food has been disappointing. For a dish that relies on fresh, visible ingredients, it's surprising how this was overlooked. Every avocado in my California roll was visibly not fresh. Everything is made fresh, beef/chicken teriyaki rocks, large portions, killer spot for hot meal when it's cold out.

Some of the friendliest people in the 49th are here. Occasionally, we struggle with the words but because everyone is patient, we have a fantastic meal every time. You get a fair portion for the money and there's usually a short wait. There's plenty of parking even during the holidays. I rotate between my favourites. So tonight will be the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl then Wednesday will most likely be Unagi Bowl (bbq eel) or Bulgugi Bowl (Stir fried marinated beef, pan fried egg). Another wonderful option is the Udon soup with fishcakes, Tempura Appetizer. They have a wide variety of rolls. The very best being: Rainbow1, Philadelphia and the Tiger! Ryuu bowl is a go-to lunch and dinner for me. I especially love the Hoedeobap. It's a generous serving of rice, vegetables, and fish, which is as wholesome a meal as you can get a restaurant for someone looking to stay in good shape, but the Gochujang they make here is all the flavor you could ever want, balancing heat, umami, and sweetness to make the entire meal an immensely satisfying symphony. Branching out from that for a treat, their sushi rolls I've tried are all excellent (if not filling), and their fried options are delectable (if not conducive to a lean body). If you want quick and friendly Japanese food, especially near base, check out Ryuu Bowl. Also they deliver on JBER and supporting a local business is always better than wasting money at Burger King. The only downside is the small dining room with stools. Ryuu Bowl is definitely a place for takeout/lunch/delivery, while the food absolutely meets date night criteria, the 6 stools at a bar-top don't. If good Japanese and some Korean style food is what you're looking for, especially fish-based with some American/Latino fusion influence, they're outstanding. If you want a sit-down restaurant for a nice outing, that's not what they're aiming for. read more

I really enjoyed the food from here! Great addition to the area, and perfect for people in Eagle River/Chugiak to have another take out option that's not super far into Anchorage. The location is mainly a take out operation, but looks like there will be some counter seating post pandemic. Very true to a Japanese izakaya. The food is reasonable priced, and their menu has a great variety of items. It's not a huge sushi menu, but for a small operation they offer a good variety of rolls as well as other dishes like katsu, udon and yakisoba. They also have an awesome lunch special deal during the week. We have mainly tried the sushi items from here, but have also gotten the bulgolgi bowl, which I feel is always a generous portion. The bulgolgi is pretty tasty, and included a miso soup. For sushi they have spicy tuna on crispy rice, which I feel is a rare find in Anchorage for some reason! It is very tasty, and I always order it! All their rolls have always been prepared well, and the fish is fresh. Their jalapeño bomb appetizer is delicious, and I think it's one of the more unique items on their menu. They also offer a variety of Japanese cheesecakes. I tried the yuzu one, and it wasn't my favorite. I'd give another flavor a try though. Ryuu Bowl is a great take out spot for sushi and other Japanese dishes. They also provide delivery though I'm not sure if the radius. I also know they deliver onto base, which I think is a huge draw for those who live near the Muldoon Gate. Best chicken karage I've had in America! The sauce is a good pair with the chicken. It was the most similar to ones i've had in Japan. Sushi was good, not overwhelming with too much rice. Bibimbop sauce was a sour red gochujang sauce which is often used with raw fish bowls. I personally prefer the sweeter gochujang mix which is also more traditional korean. Cheesecakes were OK. Not on the sweet side at all. We always order take out as the inside seems a bit small and can feel crowded. Food is always prepared fast. Will be ordering more in the future. read more

Pretty solid spot for some sushi! Albeit on the pricy side, at least it tasted good. They didn't overdue it with spicy mayo, unagi, or teriyaki sauce - only one of the rolls ended up with that combo but it was nice and light, nothing worse than a roll swimming in sauce to cover up the flavors of what's inside of it. Their spider roll was bomb! Haven't had a decent one in Anchorage, but this spot does it right. Crispy soft shell crab, throw that in the roll, legs and claws sticking out either side... legit. A must if you dig soft shell. Spicy tuna roll was packing heat! And again, they didn't just put spicy mayo on it and call it a day. The sushi overall had good rice and good flavor. But dang is it pricy. The gyoza was alright, nothing to write home about. The bibimbap was pretty meh. Definitely recommend for the sushi, if you don't mind a steep price tag. read more

Not the most unique eatery in Anchorage - lots of other restaurants have more or less the same menu. Mostly a takeout place with some counter seating. Prices are a little steep, but based on my experience the portion size and food quality are worth it. Most recently I had the chirashi bowl, which was about $20 and came with miso soup. Everything was packaged very well. The fish was fresh and the rice was well-seasoned. The cheesecake is pretty good and comes in a variety of flavors such as yuzu, blueberry, and Oreo. Denser and less crust than I typically like but still tasty. I also like the lychee iced tea and how it comes with lychee fruit in it. Very disappointing! I was excited to try this place. Menu looked great and nice (but small) interior decor. More of a takeout place. A lot of door dash and grub hub people coming through. I ordered spider rolls (ok. A little hard to screw up deep fried anything including soft shell crab). Spicy tuna roll was just ok. Same for rainbow roll. Wasn't the best quality sushi and prices were still around $14 a roll. I also got 2 bowls - the bulgogi and bibibimbop. First, they both looked and tasted exactly the same. The meat was of low quality and stringy. I did not find the staff particularly friendly. Prices are steep for the quality. I would rather go to an actual sushi restaurant for a couple dollars more. You can stop at the Starbucks a few doors down while you wait for your food to be ready. Cheesecakes looked good, but I didn't try. I won't be back unfortunately. read more

Love the trendy look of the inside here, another strip mall gem in that regard! My GF and I eagerly ordered through their slick online interface. We both got short rib bowls. We both agreed the short ribs were tasty but the rest if it was...kind of plain and lacking seasoning? It was mainly short ribs on top of plain white rice. We both put siracha on it at home (we got them to go) to spice them up. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing? Just seemed very plain for $17, needs more veggies and/or more sauce! read more

Food is delicious, fresh, and delivery is prompt. The service by phone is very helpful, polite, and intelligent. (An aside: I am SO disappointed when I call a restaurant and the person who answers is TOTALLY CLUELESS! I call to either order take-out, or ask questions before making a reservation. That did not happen here.) The person who has taken my order by phone, several times, is knowledgeable & intelligent. Thankfully, they have their own delivery person sparing me the misery of using delivery services. Delivery services in Anchorage, in my limited experience, are smoke & mirrors. Their APP says one thing & the driver says another! I probably ordered more often from Ryuu Bowl because their food is very good, AND BECAUSE THEY HAVE THEIR OWN DELIVERY service. I was craving sushi so decided to check out this place in the Tikatnu Commons. There is limited space to dine in but luckily there were only a couple of patrons already eating so we were able to squeeze in. You order at the counter and you're given the option for take out or dine in. I went for my usual Hot Night roll ($14.99) and it made me do a happy dance after the first bite. The only thing that would've made it more enjoyable was if the rolls were served on dishes instead of take out containers. read more

It was good! Portion size was great. The sriracha sauce is made from scratch and not super spicy and a little on the sweet side, IMO. I wasn't a huge fan of the beef marinade, it also was on the sweet side and it was just a little too much of the same flavors. My egg was also a little over cooked and hard to tear apart to mix with the bowl. Not bad though! If I'm craving a quick bimbap (probably not spelling this right) then I will come here.
