I was not super hungry and was thrilled to see udon on the menu with Yelp at this place right next door to the Holiday Inn Express Anchorage. The place was vacant. Very clean. Tables nicely spaced and look new. One person picked up a to go order and a couple was at a table. I took my meal back to the hotel. This is a Mom and Pop joint that seems to do most of its business for take out orders. The seating is spare but clean. The most important part is that the food is good! I have eaten here several times during 2024 and the Japanese tempura udon is pretty good, as is the pork Tonkatsu. Very close to the hotel so it was a nice drive. It is definitely a mom and pop shop with the poppa san cooking and mama san taking the orders. When I went in, poppa san took my order and then went to cook. I ordered the steak teriyaki with sauce on the side. Got my food and back to the hotel. When I opened the box I was surprised at how much meat was in it. The meat was very tender and the sauce made it tasty. I would go back but I probably won't be in Alaska for awhile :) read more

When we want a hearty meal but want to make it quick, it is always easy to choose Fukumaru Teriyaki. I like that we can call our order in ahead and its hot and ready by the time we get there. This place is family owned and they work hard, while still managing to be kind. Inside, the restaurant is clean and large enough. Simple tables and chairs. A TV off to the side, and a soda fountain/utensil set-up. Spicy pork plate, teriyaki beef plate and an order of shrimp tempura is our usual ticket. Their rice is cooked perfectly (spouse is picky about his rice) and portions are generous. I can never finish my plate. We can always count on Fukumaru to consistently make quality fresh food, fast. Is it good? Sure. But there are more than a handful of places with a similar menu around town and honestly there wasn't anything about the food that made this place stick out for me. The portion sizes are definitely a plus, and the flavor is good. Delivery is always a win too, so we can get it delivered to work. The price is also great, especially for their lunch specials. When I've had the sesame chicken I appreciated that the breading wasn't excessive so you actually taste the meat rather than breading, and the ratio of the sauce was favorable as well. It stuck, it didn't just sink to the bottom of the dish to be mopped up! I wasn't mad at the slices of the pork for the pork bowl either. It wasn't fat chunks that take forever to chew and swallow. Teriyaki so good you'll eat it twice in one day! Seriously, I had it twice in one day. Based on the health score I was already sold, but I walk in to this unassuming teriyaki place and was pleasantly surprised. It sounds bad, but I feel like anytime you walk into any ethnic restaurant and it smells amazing and the person in the back or taking your order has broken English, you know it'll be good. We had the two entree special. They were well worth the 15$. We got two full meals out of each plate. We both ordered the beef teriyaki and I had spicy pork, my husband had spicy chicken. The combo comes with a generous scoop of rice and a small side. We both chose gyoza. We ordered the food to go and only had to wait about 15 minutes. It was 12:15. Normal lunch rush time. Orders were flying out, both to go and dine in. All the plates looked and smelled amazing as they passed by. Our food finally came and we barely made it to the light before I had to crack open one of the boxes and eat one of the gyoza. It was perfectly crispy and the filling was so flavorful. If my husband hadn't already scolded me I might have just started in on my food. When we got home we tried the spicy pork. Oh man! It's spicy, but it's so good! It's a slow burn with a ton of complex layered flavors so you can actually taste it. Cooked to perfection and tender. The beef was also amazing. It wasn't just covered in beef fat and salt, which is how I view a lot of teriyaki places. This meat was sliced super thin, marinated and cooked in legit teriyaki sauce. When we went back at dinner time we picked up fried rice and egg rolls. We had so much food leftover from lunch we just rounded it out with rice and had it for dinner. My 7 year old joined us for this meal and we still have leftovers in the fridge. All in all, the service was great and fast, the food was good and super filling, and you get a ton of it. This is now my go to teriyaki place! Anchorage is finally feeling like a home now. This place has made me never want to leave. read more

I ordered delivery from Fukumaru Teriyaki for the first time tonight. I always dread and usually avoid calling in orders because so often English is not the first language of the person on the other end and I struggle to understand them at the same time they are also impatiently in a hurry. Tonight, however, I was hungry enough and grocery store avoidant enough to bite the bullet and call for delivery. The phone call went great! The nice woman on the other end of the line spoke slowly enough for me to understand her, and she was very pleasant and polite throughout the ordering process. Right on time, three entrees and an appetizer arrived when she said they would. A polite young man delivered the food and graciously asked me if I wanted change before assuming the extra was a gratuity. It was his gratuity, but it was nice of him to ask and more well-mannered than most customer service people in this city. All of the food was piping hot, even the egg roll.
