10/10 Experience at Papa Nalu…read more If you're anywhere near this gem, RUN, don't walk to Papa Nalu! I had the absolute pleasure of being served by Leilani, and let me tell you, she made the entire experience unforgettable. Her service was not only warm and attentive, but her menu recommendations were spot on. It turns out her dad is the chef and owner, which made her insights into the menu even more special... you could feel the pride in every dish she described! I ordered the Ahi Tuna Poke with white rice, and it was genuinely one of the best poke bowls I've ever had, super fresh, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. We also couldn't resist trying the tacos and ended up getting both the blackened and fried versions. Honestly, I couldn't pick a favorite, they were both outrageously good! From the food to the friendly vibes, this place is a total win. You can taste the love in every bite, and the hospitality from Leilani made it even better. Highly, highly recommend, can't wait to go back!

Ambiance - nice clean pleasant music and not too loud. Their floor does need a deep cleaning…read more Service - Lauren was our waitress. She was quick and efficient. She even brought out a cleaning rag and drying rag when my 87 yo mother complained that the table top was sticky. It wasn't. It was the topping on the table. Food - I'm not a fan of can soda instead of a fountain drink, but restaurants need to do what makes financial sense to them. The coconut shrimp was brought in ie NOT FRESH. The sweet and sour sauce was nothing special. The macaroni salad was ok nothing special. Rice is rice and the broccoli was not over cooked. My blackened mahi mahi was good. They actually know how to blacken a fish. AMAZING. The Mauna Kea sauce was ok, nothing special. Please explain what makes this a Hawaiian restaurant? Is it the little cups of "Hawaiian" sauces? Funny I don't remember them when I was in Maui.

We decided to venture out beyond Destin and do some exploring -- and that's when we stumbled on Maui Bus Stop in Fort Walton Beach. So glad we did. The loco moco was great, the teriyaki steak was smoky, well seasoned, and tender, exactly what you want. The mac salad side was creamy and just a little sweet, a perfect complement. And the prices? $10 for a loco moco is absolutely insane in the best way possible. Worth the short drive from Destin. If you're staying in the area and tired of the tourist trap spots, do yourself a favor and find this place. A total hidden gem.

Spam musubi falling apart quick when my girl picked it up (it should stay together until you bite that sh*) The smothered sauce tasted like mostly soy sauce mixed with cornstarch, and too sweet.. poured over the meat. The rice and musubi were bland and not seasoned at all, and the overall taste was very plain. The BBQ/teriyaki chicken was also burnt and cold when served. To make it worse, the portion size was VERY small for over $12. The quality, portion size, and taste did not match the charge at all. I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately it wasn't what I thought.

The musubis are delicious; the kalua pig is delightful; and the teriyaki chicken is divine. But what puts it all over the top is their fantastic Mac salad! The brown rice is pretty awesome, as well. The service is outstanding, albeit you order at the counter. It seems there's always a manager in the dining room taking care of patrons, ensuring a perfectly pleasant experience! The decor is Hawaiian, although it's on the subtle side. The whole family loves this spot! We will definitely be back!

Anyone who knows about Hawaiian plates they always come with 2 scoops of rice. The regular plate says it comes with 2 meats and 2 scoops of rice, but I got takeout and it only contained 1 scoop of the brown rice i ordered. Don't know if this is shrinkflation and they forgot to update the online menus or they just forgot the 2nd scoop. Not a deal breaker on me going back since i probably wouldn't have eaten all the rice anyway, but I have to point out the discrepancy. As for flavor, this meal brought me back. I did get extra teriyaki sauce. What I love is that this is the right flavor for teriyaki. Not the thick nasty stuff you find in bottles at the grocery store. Not the best I've had but very close to what I grew up eating in Hawaii and in teriyaki joints on the West Coast. I have yet to find great teriyaki establishments on the East Coast or restaurants that have authentic teriyaki flavor (even if the sauce is good it's usually not the right teriyaki flavor). Chicken is easy but I was impressed by how tender the steak is! So impressed I went back for lunch with a friend and got the steak plate. Something else I'm impressed with is the Mac salad. I never eat macaroni salad unless it's from Hawaii. I don't eat mayo so items like potato salad, deviled eggs, tuna salad and macaroni salad are items that I'll try out to see if they taste too mayonnaiseee. If they are flavorful and I can't taste the mayo then it passes. Hawaiian Mac salad never has an overwhelming mayo taste. The pounders Mac salad is ono! What makes it unique is the heavy hand on the black pepper. It's wonderful. I ordered it on my 2nd visit. Not normal for me on mayo based dishes. I see myself ordering from here monthly while I'm in town. AlohaMelani
