I was unfortunately not impressed. Seaweed salad tastes JUST like the prepackaged stuff at Publix. The size of the sushi is generous but the flavor itself isn't anything special. I ordered the "Summertime" roll and the wasabi mayo did not have any wasabi taste. The side of ginger and wasabi were also low quality. Florida panhandle and sushi is always an interesting experience. On one hand, people love seafood, on the other hand, many still cringe at the thought of eating raw fish. As a result, the fish that does get caught is hardly ever caught or handled to be ready for sushi. And restaurants that do exist, like The Slippery Mermaid, make an effort to conceal the fish underneath rice and endless toppings as much as possible to avoid scaring their patrons. Slippery Mermaid rolls are a bit whacky. Most are topped with tons of ingredients, are massive and do not resemble a western sushi roll that one might find anywhere else. Perhaps that's a sushi roll Florida Style! Where the big improvement for Slippery Mermaid lies is in the quality of the fish. It's hard to pinpoint exactly why, but it's fairly flavorless. The salmon does not taste like salmon and neither does the tuna. Those deep, unique flavors just do not exist. On the plus side, they are well constructed and the rice is of good consistency. Adding a quality sake list would have been a really great addition to the restaurant. Where The Slippery Mermaid truly shines is the staff. Truly kind people working here, extremely attentive and simply amazing. The space is very busy, almost always. read more

They also offer vegetarian and gluten free options. Not included in the photo was our appetizer: the mermaid tails. Cooked, crunchy, saucy, and delicious!! Small little sushi restaurant in Navarre that i visited when i was in Florida this summer. We were part of a party of 7 - 3 adults and 4 kids. Unfortunately we had to sit outside cause there was not a place for us to sit inside. But they crammed 2 tables together outside for us to sit at. Food and service was pretty good. Read to see why im giving low stars. Being gluten free with a gluten intolerance we were so happy to see the Slippery Mermaid takes pride to offer GF options on their menu. With that being said we ordered through DoorDash the GF options of sushi. Knowing that they carry GF soy sauce we looked everywhere on the menu for it but it was not there. They had every other sauce on the menu i.e. spicy mayo, Sriracha, garlic sauce (all at Xtra $1.00 charge,) but no GF soy sauce. So we called and specifically and asked for them to include it and the woman said they would. When we received our 63..00 order there was only regular soy sauce. So we called and they did not apologize only made it about the $1.00 charge for the sauce they would not receive. A frigging $1.00. So we had to eat our sushi with no soy sauce. We love hitting this spot each year we visit. We have only had the sushi but each roll we try has been great so far. Whether you are eating in or getting it to go, the staff is always very friendly quick to serve. The location is decent and conveniently located in the bayside of Navarre Beach. My Mom and I went here yesterday for lunch. It was the first time that we had been able to go out by ourselves in a long time and The Slippery Mermaid was perfect for us. Our server was really sweet and we immediately felt very comfortable. We ended up sharing a Slippery Mermaid roll which was our favorite, a Tiger roll, the Mermaid Tails, and a seaweed salad. But again, telling a parent with a special needs child that a specific food isn't nutritional but that's one of the few things they will eat and has them in multiple therapies for it? Again, extremely insensitive. And trust me, we were never planning to give you our money again. was told my autistic child can't have any outside food but literally is prescribed specific dietary foods and has weekly feeding therapy. the owner was confrontational, no empathy, or inclusion. she keeps claiming it's both a house policy and due to health department reasons but nothing in the county or Florida says anything about bringing outside food as a risk or violation... take your money somewhere else instead of an owner on her high horse about a policy not even accommodating to children with disabilities. She responded to another review that she could have offered grilled chicken, steak, or soup... which is all a joke when it comes to a child with a food processing disorder. can't the owner tell that its actually more work to bring food then just have my daughter come to a restaurant, sit down and eat their food? It's a nice, unobtrusive atmosphere with open seating, friendly staff and exceptional sushi! Started with Miso soup (which was made with white miso, seaweed and firm tofu chunks, followed by a Sexy Mermaid and a shrimp(fried) roll. Both great, but the Sexy Mermaid really turned me on. The use of razor thin jalapeño, cilantro, and a thin wedge of like was truly a taste explosion! This is one of those places I would NEVER mention were I not a Yelper, for fear it would be rushed and lose its ambience and culinary creativity.
