I've ordered food from here at least three times this week! I love their musubi trio & they have really good prices.

I'll start by saying I haven't been in to this place to eat, I ordered ALOT of food to cater a big Luau I threw a couple of weeks back. Initially I thought $800 was too much for the food I ordered, but after picking up the food, and seeing how much they gave me I was very pleased. The shrimp were great, the spam musubi was awesome and the malasadas were great as well. Not a fan the people are nice but the food was not what I expected. I got orange chicken but it was nothing like the photo or any orange chicken I've ever had. It was chopped pieces of flat fried chicken and it tasted like the sauce was sweet and sour with some orange and peppers thrown in it. The food is usually good and ready really quickly. Tonight we called and placed an order and they didn't take our name or number, just hung up after we said what we wanted. Once I got home I realized there were two things wrong with my dish. I requested brown rice and macaroni salad, and I got white rice and regular salad. I was super bummed because I was really looking forward to this meal after a long day. Always come here when I'm craving a loco moco or other hawaiian dishes. This place is very close to my house, so it's super convenient. We've tried many dishes such as the bbq chicken, spam musubi and of course loco moco. I know that they have korean and chinese dishes as well. When I look at reviews for hawaiian food, I always look to see if anyone talks about the mac salad. I really enjoy this one. This place was phenomenal! I've only eaten here twice but all I have to say is that it was an exceptional dining experience. My girlfriend who I was with suggested I get the chicken katsu and it was absolutely delicious. They had a wonderful selection of food and beverages and at VERY reasonable prices as well. I would highly recommend this place to everyone I know. The staff was friendly and very helpful, the dining area was clean and tidy, and the bathroom was in good shape which is rare for a hole-in-the-wall restaurant like this. Wonderful combo of Hawaiian style BBQ entrees & a couple of optional stock Chinese ones to mix things up. Very generous portions. Chicken Katsu is perfect - crispy, but not greasy. Lemon chicken has a refreshing slightly tarter than average lemon sauce (much tastier than the gooey cloyingly sweet ones you can encounter). Place was very clean, and service pleasant :D read more

I am tired of being so negative in my reviews so here is a little bit of positivity coming your way. My family and I love this little restaurant. The service is super quick, the food is very good and the prices are nice. I can feed my family of three until we are full with leftovers for under $20. I very much enjoy the Musabi trio while my wife prefers the Hawaiian BBQ chicken. The take out is super convenient and the staff is always friendly. This is definitely the place to go if you want to pay the same as you would for Chipotle (just around the corner) but don't feel like waiting in line for 20 minutes for them to only skimp on your ingredients. There I go being all negative again. Forget your worries and instead go to Hula Wok instead and feel that Aloha spirit. read more

This is some of the best Hawai'ian food I've ever had, including in Hawai'i. For those new to Hawai'ian food or for those desiring that incredible, distinct taste, this is the place to go. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming, and the food is amazing. I'd suggest Kulua pork to anyone, as it's incredible. The BBQ Chicken & BBQ Beef were very good, huge portions and the macaroni salad was excellent as was the sticky rice. They have an extensive menu so will try other things next time. My biggest complaint and why I didn.t give it 2 more stars was that the teriyaki sauce had no flavor, very watered down. Next time I will bring my own sauce. We eat at Kilohana in San Ramon often and their BBQ has a better teriyaki flavor. read more

They have very delicious food but they don't really speak English that well so it can be difficult to order. The price is higher but worth it because they provide large portions. I defiantly would recommend to a friend, people should try it out! It's new at the plaza in San Ramon, right near Chipotle. I grew up on Oahu and have lived in San Ramon 11 years. For the first time I have found a place on the mainland that serves Hawaiian BBQ right. I had the bbq mixed plate. The kalbi ribs were ono and the bbq chicken was lean and flavorful. The mac salad was truly mind blowing. Just like I grew up with in Hawaii. I will be back this week. Definitely coming back. This place is clean including the bathroom. Not Hawaiians but Nice people. Food was great even for the price. We ordered 2 plates, bbq chicken & Kalbi (beef short ribs). Other places give you little portions. This place gives you enough. Before leaving we ordered musubi's, one chicken katsu and one bbq musubi. Let me tell you that my favorite was chicken katsu musubi and its huge. This place is way better than L&L for sure. Plus you have a choice to pick Chinese food too which we haven't tried it yet. read more

New combo chinese/hawaiian take-out restaurant where it appears owners don't really understand the Hawaiian food side of their menu. Teriyaki Chicken needs to have more flavor and be a lot less fatty and greasy, saimin needs a lot of work with a home made (no msg) broth versus the one they serve which is made with powder (also better quality ramen noodles are needed), kailua pork could use less fat and a lot more flavor, bbq beef didn't appear to be barbecued and was 30% fat. Malasadas need to be a lot larger, more eggs in the batter, less sugar coating and also the use of clean oil for frying...their current recipe needs to go. I gave them two stars versus one, since they had a nice website....I only wish the food was as good as it looked on their site....perhaps they need to make their web designer the cook. read more

Just dropped by first time for lunch. Tried the Samin BBQ chicken which has good flavor broth, short ribs is good and ordered orange chicken to go. The orange chicken to go cost a dollar more without rice but the portion was small. Not happy about paying over $10 for orange chicken. Better off going Oriental Express, more your money. read more

I share an earlier review by DOUGLAS M, this place has a bad habit of undercooking its short ribs for me twice now. Grossly fatty and not "seared" like normal Hawaiian short ribs and a total rip off price wise. I got only enough eatable meat off 3 pretty shabby short ribs to maybe fill a shot glass for 10 bucks. A child's scoop of flavorless macaroni salad and 2 little humps of rice. I would of mentioned my experience to them personally, but the 2 kids sitting by the register wouldn't of cared much. Not the worst... Came for dinner. I got the half Hawaiian, half Chinese combo. It was one item of each ethnicity plus a spring roll (they say egg roll), fried or steamed rice, and fountain drink for $10.95. It's a large portion of bland rice, but the fried rice is basically steamed rice with an egg scrambled into it with some peas and green onions. The chicken Katsu had good flavor and crunch, and so did the sweet and sour chicken. The sweet and sour sauce is just a tad too sweet but the bland rice balanced it out. They carry Hawaiian Sun beverages in a refrigerated case, and have fountain drinks. They have a donut style treat called malasadas. It tastes like fried pancake batter sprinkled with sugar. This place has quickly become our favorite place for good Hawaiian food. Barbecue chicken and chicken Katsu are just like Hawaii. We will definitely use them for catering.
