Garlic Naan
Harsh S.

Great service and great food and best is they are open till 11:00pm 1. Ambience is decent 2. I ordered Paneer Tikka Masala and spicy and it was served hot with Mango Lassi and Garlic Naan 3. They gave a side of onion which was decent. 4. Naans are smaller portion than the city nepalese restaurants and for $4.50 Naan, I did not feel my stomach full. 5. But quality of food was overall great. 6. Will try other vegetarian items soon and post.

The Gurkha Kitchen: A Hidden Gem in San Ramon! Don't let the modest storefront in the market plaza fool you--The Gurkha Kitchen is a total knockout. While the exterior is unassuming, the interior has a great, authentic Dhaba-style vibe that makes you feel right at home. The Service We arrived quite late with a large group of nine, and the staff was incredibly accommodating. They're generally open until 11:00 PM but prefer the final order by 10:30 PM. They were very transparent and helpful, advising us to put our full order in at once so the kitchen could get everything out together. It made the whole experience seamless! The Food Highlights We ordered a massive spread, and honestly, there wasn't a weak link in the bunch: * Veggie Momos: A perfect start. They arrived warm with a deeply flavorful chutney. * Chicken Biryani: This was top-notch. Unlike some places, the rice didn't have any overpowering "essence" or artificial floral notes--just pure, savory flavor. * Tandoori Chicken: Served on a sizzler, this was easily some of the best we've ever had. It was juicy, perfectly seasoned, and came with fresh cut onions and green chutney. * The Curries: Both the Goat Curry and the Nepali Chicken Curry were delicious. We also tried the Paneer Tikka Masala, which was rich, creamy, and had a great texture, plus a Dal Tadka that was simple, comforting, and hit the spot. * Tandoori Roti: You have to get these. They were fresh, crisp, and light--the perfect vessel for the curries. Drinks & Atmosphere They have a solid selection of interesting beers; we went with the Taj Mahal, which paired perfectly with the spice levels of the meal. Bottom Line: Whether you're with family or a big group of friends, this place is fantastic. The food is authentic, the staff is kind, and the flavors are memorable. Highly recommended!

Good food and service, not fancy but very comfortable and welcoming. Really appreciated the free milk tea -- such a nice touch. The lamb was especially flavorful and well-seasoned. Overall a cozy spot with satisfying food and friendly service.

So delicious and plenty of food for two!!

soooo good!! service by dipesh was great and the butter chicken and naan and chicken biryani combo was elite. Plenty of food for two people with leftovers for dinner!

garlic naan and CHICKEN TIKKA MASA

After a day of running around and moving furniture we were hungry, Gurkha Kitchen happened to be still open late so in we went. Food was good the chicken tikka masala was flavorful and the chicken was not dry. Wished the garlic naan was a little fluffier but it was still good

Came here at 1PM on a Saturday and there were a few other parties inside. We were quickly welcomed and seated, and our server was very kind! We ordered the pani poori (ate 4 of them before taking a pic oops) and the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan and rice. Both dishes were very flavorful and our server helped us pick the perfect amount of spiciness for the chicken tikka. They also offer complimentary self serve hot chai :)

Since I love the heritage of the Gurkha Regiments in England I was curious to try this restaurant. Friday night was able to be seated quickly. Atmosphere was family oriented, booths on the walls, tables in the middle. We ordered Buffalo Momo-a dumpling style dish. Really tasty! Goat curry-first time having goat, while it looked spicy it was not. And the chicken fried rice was beautiful and delicious.

Good food and service but unfortunately they offer 10% discounts on your whole order for 5 star reviews and ask you to leave a review so the reviews are artificially inflated. Yelp Elite terms say I'm not supposed to take free things or discounts in exchange for reviews. Also against Yelp TOS but that's not enforced at all and it's a common practice. You can also see a lot of the good reviews are from accounts with 1 review and no pictures uploaded. I think it might be around 4.0 if the reviews were real. Other than the inflated rating I have no complaints. The mango lassi and momo appetizer are really good and the place is clean and spacious! Maybe I can ask a friend or family member to leave a 5 star review and delete it afterwards for the discount lol

ALOO TIKKI CHAT
Raymond R.

I ordered pickup. Seems to have adequate dining area. Staff seem friendly. Looks clean. I had Aloo Tikki chat, butter chicken, Chana chatpatay, garlic Nan and Raita. Everything was a flavor and texture bomb. The chatpatay has a wonderful charred vegetable aroma, and plenty of crunch from puffed rice it seems. The raita helps calm the spice (medium is what I got). The aloo tikki chat and everything seems to be a great nutritional value especially for the price. Imagine eating great vegetarian food and having leftovers for likely less than you spend at a fast food place. The buttered chicken is flavorful and goes well with the garlic nan or other dishes. Overall highly recommend, especially for the Nepali options. Definitely has a distinct flavorful style

We took our daughter and her husband to Gurkha Kitchen for lunch. We were greeted and seated right away. The server recognized me from my last visit about 2 months ago. We ordered a few familiar dishes and a new Nepalese dish. The food was good and tasted even better with a 10% discount since I posted a Yelp review.

We've walked past this place so many times whenever we come to this plaza to grab milk tea, and every time it's packed. The decor is really low key and simple, but seeing how busy it always is made us finally want to try it. This was actually my first time having Nepalese food and I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the goat biryani, butter chicken with naan, and a fried fish appetizer. The fried fish was super fresh and tender inside with a nice crispy outside, and the dipping sauce made it feel light instead of greasy. The butter chicken was very creamy with a strong nutty flavor and honestly one of the best I've had. The chicken itself was flavorful all the way through, and the naan was thin, slightly crispy outside but soft inside. The goat biryani also had a generous amount of meat and the goat was very tender. Service was great overall. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and checked in on us regularly. They also offer complimentary tea which was really nice after such a rich meal, especially on a colder day. For the Bay Area, the price felt very reasonable. Usually two mains and an appetizer with tax and tip could be close to 80 dollars, but ours came out to a little over 60, which felt like a really good value. We would definitely come back.

Garlic Naan, Butter Roti, Butter Chicken
Reeven S.

We were initially planning to go to the restaurant next door until we walked by this place and smelled the delicious food. We did not do any research or know anything about this place except for the delicious smell and the many customers it had inside. And thankfully, we did not regret this spontaneous decision. We ordered the garlic naan, butter roti and butter chicken. The naan and roti were a bit on the burnt side but still very flavorful. I actually appreciated the crispiness. Of course, it paired very well with the aromatic and flavorful butter chicken. Every dip of the naan was mesmerizing and my only complaint was the portion size. The price of the dish was a bit expensive for the amount of food they give, but that honestly will not stop me from coming back. The butter chicken is just soooo gooood!

CHICKEN MOMO
Frances L.

First time trying Nepalese food and I loved both the momos and the Thali set. Everything was better fresh at the restaurant as I had tried a few items as takeout when Gurkha first opened. The chicken momos are delicious with a thin skin, savory filling and served with a curry dipping sauce. I loved the variety of the veggie thali set. The tikka chicken was great and filled with chunks of tender chicken in a mild savory sauce perfect for naan. Yum!

Others have provided lots of positive comments on the excellent food. See some attached photos…read more I was, honestly, amazed at the service and the staff. We were way late for our dinner reservation but the manager, Aman(?!) was warm and welcoming. The bartender (name?) also doubled as a server. Very helpful with our cocktail orders. Extensive bar. After years, I was served my straight single malt in a chilled glass. Without having to ask! The server, William, is one of the best trained servers that I have come across. Ever. Thoughtful. Efficient. Attentive but not intrusive. (What's a guy like him doing in a place like this! ) The chef (name?) sent each dish out looking elegant. There were six of us, so we had three appetizers, four entrees and a dessert. Impressive plating! He visited us at the table to ensure everyone was happy. As you may know from my reviews, the experience is more important to me than the food. Given that this is a "mall restaurant!," I was blown away! My bride is an amazing Indian cook, and even she was pleased with the food. Above and beyond any expectations!

Staff were still walking in, cutlery was being laid out (loudly), and nobody seemed to know if they were actually open yet. I had to approach someone myself and ask. They looked genuinely unsure until I mentioned I had a reservation, at which point we were seated - though "reluctantly" is the right word. I get that openings can be a bit chaotic, but this is meant to be a fine dining restaurant charging fine dining prices. That expectation of polish and readiness should be table stakes, not an aspiration. As for the food - the champaran mutton was the one bright spot and genuinely good. Everything else ranged from forgettable to underwhelming. For what you're paying, that's not good enough. Wouldn't rush back.

When I asked the restaurant staff, they mentioned that they are now serving Jain sambar by default instead of the original South Indian sambar, which I believe is now referred to as Ratna Cafe sambar. For me, the main reason to come here was always the dosa with that authentic South Indian sambar. Without it, the experience just does not feel the same anymore. To be fair, the staff did give me the Ratna Cafe sambar when I asked, and that tasted like what I remembered. But I was told this change was a management decision. I am not sure whether this was done for cost reasons or to appeal to a different audience, but as a customer who came here specifically for the traditional dosa and sambar experience, it was a huge disappointment. The dosas are also not cheap, and at that price, I expect to enjoy the full meal. Unfortunately, I do not feel it is worth paying a premium for dosa when the default sambar is not something I enjoy. I have had better sambar at other restaurants, but that is not what I came to Mylapore Express for. I am sad to say this may be my last visit here specifically for dosa and sambar. This restaurant had a strong reputation with me, but this change has really taken away the main reason I used to like it.
