I don't care what people say about this place, but I love it. I love ordering a pound of hot wings, ordering a beer, and watching whatever game is on their many TV's. I also very much enjoy the Wing-Dinger Burger which consists of Blue Cheese and Wing Sauce. If your looking for a good appetizer the Nachos are perfect, but so are all the others except fried pickles. The service can be a bit spotty at times but it's never been a horrible problem. Seeing how it's a Limited Liability Company (LLC) which means they can't help legally liable for their actions I think I would avoid this place at all costs. Beer what's that water, hops, yeast. The restroom was pretty funky even though it looked clean. And then they put this enourmous price tag on it like a pitcher of beer is actually worth what $20 -$25. Maybe if you were homeless and nowhere else to go for the evening and couldn't afford a room at mr. Patels Motel. I got a burger and pint of IPA and was not impressed it was the same as any other place that is NOT a generic fast food spot. I stepped outside and saw a bunch of law enforcement looking to write me a fat DUI ticket and impound my rental car hassle me in any way they could so I called a cab and got on a plane and left town. read more

They have a great menu with lots of great options! The service is usually a bit on the slow side but the food is good so it usually tends to make up for it! I love the selection of beer they have on tap and it's great that they always have a game on and they even have arcade games for the kids so everyone is entertained! read more

My husband and I attended Humbrews Valentines dinner last night. It was another of their special event dinners (usually a menu around a selected brewery) that they hold in the side room area. I loved the location. I moved right when it was shutting it's doors. Soo sad. What a fun place to go play some pool and drink a pitch with your pals. It was perfect if you were an HSU student who lived near campus. They played lots of live music. Great beer.. Red Nectar is on my top beer lists. I'm a brewery fan and I loved this place. This place reminds me of the local brew pubs ai frequented in college. Not great on decor but good beers and great food! My grass fed beef mushroom swiss burger was cooked medium rare as ordered. The bum, tomato and sliced onions were fresh! I don't like when restaurants give you green tomato for your burger and this place did it right! The onion rings were crispy and there was plenty of them! The hot wings were also good but the garlic fries also had a seasoning on them that didn't really go with garlic. Steak rub maybe? They have really good sweet potato fries and the chicken sandwich was also tasty. The only item I didn't care for were the fried pickles. They use pickle spears instead of chips or slices so they were not very crispy and were soaked with fryer grease. Overall the service was great and the food was tasty. We will be back! Went back and tried the Gyro & chicken strips. Great sandwich! I think they need to change the fryer grease more often. The onion rings and chicken strips were almost black. oh what has happened to my precious brewery?!?! back in early the earlier part of this decade (2000-2003) the humboldt brewery was my FAVORITE place to chill with friends a grab a pitcher.....or 3. Oatmeal Stout, how I do miss thee! This shouldn't even be labeled the humboldt brewery, because it's not anymore. It's Humbrews, and they only still make red nectar(yweck!) and hemp ale(double yweck!) The last time I went there (Late May 2004) a friend of mine was going to treat me to a farewell pitcher of Oatmeal Stout. Their response,"nope. but we have 8 ball stout." WHAAAAA?!?!?! My heart broke in that instant, and it has never been the same :( read more

I have been to Hum Brews several times (mostly draged there by friends) and not once have I had a decent meal. The cooks are horrible. I ordered a portobello mushroom melt and had to send it back because the cheese was not melted, infact it wasn't even warm. After that I decided to put my foot down. I am no longer going to Hum Brews because the food is awful. If you want good food and plenty of beer go to the Alibi, it's about three blocks away. read more

The food has never impressed me. The owner/bartender is a surly women with short brown curly hair. She is not very friendly, she was down right rude the last time I was in. We had finished our pitcher, when she comes and grabs it without asking if we needed a refill, never to be seen again! She then rudely slams into my chair with no apology or acknowledgment of my existence. People come here because there is no where ese to eat in Arcata. Fries n Chicken Fingers were extremely soggy, "fresh" Fish Sandwich was obviously frozen! Dry Burgers, tasteless Gyros, bland Chicken Sandwich, Wings are 'meh', Sauces are too salty or runny. WAY too expensive for what you get. Would have gotten one star if not for the Beer on tap. Word of advice: 6 Rivers and Lost Coast have better wings and burgers without the entitled owners attitude! read more

Humbrews has always been my "go to" place to grab a cold beer and a quick snack for a fair price. It's nothing fancy, they occasionally have decent live music, mediocre comedy or some other live events. The staff is fairly cool, service is generally quick and the food is good. The real reason I like it is that its off the plaza and has a calmer ambiance than the plaza bars. It's considerably cleaner than the plaza bars and much quieter. Overall a nice place to sit down and grab a bite and a brew with friends. Alas, had great tasting beer for every type of beer conniseur. Red Nectar Ale was superb. Hemp Ale was a bit tangy and refreshing (for a dark ale). I am saddened and mournful for the loss of this great North Coast brewery. I am feeling guilty for not returning to Arcata sooner, before this legendary brewer's playground last shut it's doors. Best buffalo wings west of the Mississippi. What a terrible loss. I've enjoyed many nights at home with your beer, and in your own house drinking pitcher after pitcher of your freshly brewed, divine nectar. The brewpub food is tasty, and not overpriced. Their beer selection is large and moderately priced as well. As a tourist from LA, I was a bit scared to come here because of the horrible reviews it had about service. When we got in and sat ourselves the server, a blonde haired woman immediately came over to greet and ask for patience as she was the only one on the floor. Her service was amazing! I really like the selection of beers, ciders, and meads you can get here. Also they offer a large sampling deal. The hot wings are the best to be found in Humboldt with the mild already having a kick. They also have a burger called the Wing Dinger that has an onion ring and hot sauce on top of the patty, finger licking good if you are into spicy. Prepare for a packed house if a big game is on and people to stay at their tables for most of the game. I come to HumBrews frequently for a weekend-afternoon pint or two. Pretty much a standard college-town pub. The food is decent, and the beer list is excellent with lots of local brews. The beer selections are quite vast and she was extremely knowledgeable about all of them. She even brought a samples to try so we knew what exactly to order. Good space for a small music venue with fairly modern bathrooms kept clean. Good selection of beers on tap, really enjoyed the raspberry lambic which not many places keep in stock. Nice employees with good follow through. Definitely will be going back, especially if they continue to book bands like Melvin Seals and JGB. read more

The food, beer, and atmosphere are always pretty solid but the service is always AWFUL. I've been here on off nights, during concerts, on game nights, and pretty much all of the above. Everything food and drink wise is pretty good but the service is always soooooo bad. Today, the waitress was probably the worst I have ever experienced. She literally made 2 of the 6 people in our party leave because she was so rude. If I was looking for a sports bar I would probably just end up going elsewhere. It isn't worth dealing with the garbage service. It really does suck though because this place has so much potential to be a cool place to hangout. read more

My favorite time at the Hum Brews is lunch time. It is a big restaurant that is incredibly slow all afternoon. You can get a table and sit and chat with your friends for hours over a few beers and some decent food. The wait staff is nice most of the time. I don't go at night but I'm sure its busy and a totally different atmosphere. I just like the quiet time where you can bring your computer and use their free internet, as you work for hours and drink beers with a friend. The food is pretty good too, for Humboldt at least. It's the only place I know in Arcata to get good wings. I recommend it for business meetings. : ) read more
