*** Under new ownership*** Ok...there is not a great selection of food in Arcata... 2 spots that are spectacular also have a spectacularly high price tag, which is fine but not for every meal. Other spots are highly rated but overly priced and the food is not good. This is the perfect spot to grab a bite and drink we came here 2 nights in a row. the burgers are great! the fries are crispy and delish. the Wedge salad i got was so fresh and delish. good beer selection and although i didn't see on website or on the menu...they have a full bar. prices are reasonable enough that it can be your go to place to watch sports and hang out. the service was stellar. Came for 8:30 pm doors open per poster and ticket to a female singer (Ike?) Friday night show: told by person the doors would notbe open, and blamed it on the band being late. Killed 35 minutes, came back only to be told we could not go in. Almost an hour after doors were supposed to be open, still standing in line. Won't be back to Humbrews, no way. read more

Mediocre at best. I remember a couple years ago this was the spot to eat! Just went there & the Mac and cheese tasted like gasoline with oil & melted cheese on top. Soggy bread on the burgers. We were so looking forward to a night out. In December I booked 4 tickets for a Amy Winehouse cover performer. We arrived 40 minutes early to find that there is no seating in this venue. (Maybe 10 crappy stools) When buying the tickets, nothing was mentioned about standing room only. Some in our party were not able to stand the entire time, and I would have never purchased tickets had I known this was the case. As you might guess with my rating the staff couldn't have cared less... Out $157. No refund.. Buyer beware. read more

This place is great for a hangout spot. They have pool and a bar and a sit down area. Great place to have a large group order drinks and food. We came with the whole family and the service was great! I got the chili and Cesar salad. And hit the spot. Definitely come back again! read more

After we arrived in Arcata and checked into our hotel, we decided to get something to eat. My wife checked out Yelp and decided on this place. It is located in the downtown area and we were able to easily park on the street nearby. The outside seating was full but there were still quite a few tables open inside. We were seated right away at a table near the front looking out on the street and outside seating. We were provided menus and offered drinks. We also decided to order and onion ring appetizer. Our drinks and appetizer arrived a short time later and we placed our entree orders. My wife decided to get the Brew Bomb Pita Salad and I decided to get the pub sliders. Our entree's arrived a short while later and looked really tasty. My wife really enjoyed her salad - it looked and tasted fresh and really hit the spot!  I really enjoyed my meal as well. It looks like they have a nice setup for live music and we saw posters for upcoming shows on the walls. Overall it was a good experience! read more

This place is fabulous. About a step up from a great dive bar, and I love a dive bar! Our server was a lovely man who's worked there for 25 years, which I think says what a great place it is. We had a couple burgers and I was really enjoying how thinly sliced the onions and tomatoes were. Perfect to compliment the burgers without overwhelming their flavor. And there was an all girl punk band playing in the next room, that we could hear while we ate. Such a rad experience! read more

Food and trivia nights are nice but they are accompanied by quite slow service. Most of the wait staff is friendly and lovely but there is one waiter that was very rude, patronizing, and snarky to multiple people at my table and other groups. There is no clear indication of how to order food and after waiting a long time to be served we ventured in to the bar room ask, a lovely waitress in there said it was totally fine to order from the bar but upon entering the trivia room again he came up to us to tell just that we needed to be a 'little patient' and that we were being a problem to him. We tried to apologize and that we had not been informed but he continued to talk to us curtly while making it seem like he thought we were incredibly stupid. Have the trivia host tell the room how to order or what the situation is if you are going to be so vile to the people who simple were not informed. read more

I visited Humboldt Brews on the last night of my summer vacation to Northern Cali. I sat at the bar and looked over the craft beer options. I really wanted another IPA brewed by Redwood Curtain Brewing Co. - but they were not carrying any of those. So I opted for the "Steelhead Extra Pale Ale" (Mad River Brewing Co. Blue Lake, CA) - always a delicious pale ale! Bartender was friendly, service was a little slow - I think she was the only one serving at the bar at the time. This place has a lot of good ambiance! I have been debating leaving this review but I've decided to now. I have been coming here for awhile now and at one point came on Friday's as a tradition with my friends. For context, there is another waitress who actually recognizes me and notices when we come back to eat. On Halloween I came with my friends and had lunch. In total, we had four checks. All of us gave our cards and signed a receipt. My friend left her phone behind and when she returned to get it the waitress told her she couldn't have it back because one of us "dined and dashed". After accusing us of stealing, she then proceeds to tell my friend to get new friends. The receipt was for someone else in our group and yet the waitress proceeded to blame ME for not paying (and I had my receipt confirmation of paying). To be clear, we were all given SOMETHING to sign so I am not sure whose receipt was given to them. I understand that people steal and that is horrible. However maybe a piece of advice is not assume that when you made the mistake of charging all the cards. Also try not to then tell someone to get new friends? Not really happy about this so not going to go back for awhile. Not blaming Humbrews entirely but still irritated by the way it was handled. read more

YOL! (Yum out loud) We were pleasantly surprised. Hand cut fries are my favorite and these were good but lacking salt. I had fish and chips and the fish is battered to order and cooked perfectly. My only criticism is it could stand to be blotted for the extra oil but I just did it at the table. The tartar sauce was delicious and dilly, the way i like it. My partner had a chicken sandwich. Produce was fresh and crisp, bacon was not to crisp and not to soft but just right. The chicken breast was pounded with Parmigiano in the yummy breading. Online says closes at 9..nope 7pm...so tired of this. If you are understaffed I understand it but keep up with your online hours.. Food is decent but not great. I almost always go for the fish tacos but lately they have been inconsistent. This place has such potential but falls so flat! Numerous TVs but rarely on, great music venue but rarely a good show. There are not many places to eat in this town after the sun sets so I guess those that are open enjoy it when you close early. read more

Great wings, a wide selection of beer on tap and it's the best music venue in Humboldt. This place is legendary for putting women's safety first. I enjoy coming to Humbrews for the beer selection and the ambiance. This is a good place to hang out with friends for drinks, conversation, and to watch the occassional sporting event as it doesn't feel sketchy and stuffy like some of the bars out on the plaza. I've always found Humbrews to be well-staffed, fairly quick with orders, and generally clean and well-maintained - even during high traffic times. Although the main attraction in Humbrews is its IPA and craft beer selection, it does have a full menu as it markets itself as a sort of bar and grill - so this is where I take away one star from what could most certainly be a five star rating. The food is overpriced and the quality can be much better. I ordered the chicken and chips, which had incredibly salty and overseasoned fries, and the chicken was soggy. I also feel like they should switch to a sweeter BBQ sauce as the one I was given with my meal did not compliment it well. There were some potentially good flavors going on, but they were overpowered by the salt and seasoning. After addressing these things I would knock $2 off the $13 price and call that a solid meal. I enjoy my visits to Humbrews, but I feel like they need to revamp their menu a little bit and make the food more affordable! In the meantime I'll keep enjoying my IPAs here, and try the food again at some point down the line. read more

They were ever so slightly frazzled on a Wednesday late afternoon. Seems everyone wanted to drink and they really don't have that many outside tables. Once we figured out the system, it didn't take long to get a table. Our server was happy we knew what style of beer we wanted so she didn't have to go over the 15 beers on tap they had (why no paper list, HB?). We ordered a small nachos and I was shocked at how good they were. Honestly, nachos are one of those things that really run the gamut, from crappy ballpark to way overdone high end. Theirs are happily in the middle, and quite flavorful. Nothing awful to report, nothing spectacular to report. All in all, just fine...give it a go! read more

Humboldt Brews tap room and music venue, another Arcata scene that makes the plaza the interesting place that it is. Upstairs, open space with an eclectic, dimly lit, dark rustic vibe. Crowd changes throughout the day, locals and regulars sit at the bar during normal business hours and through happy hour. College crowd starts to filter in at night, with the end of happy hour and late, for whatever band is playing that night. This is a tap room, so beer is the best bet here. Several local taps from the areas breweries, with some taps only available there or at the respective brewery. I've had late lunch here a couple times - it's okay for bar food, and the grass fed beef burgers are the best choice for carnivores. The service during the day shift is pretty solid, friendly professional and kind. It tends to be more hit and miss the later in the evening and as the crowd grows. A cool venue for music and beer. It is a fun bar with good affordable food and variety. There beer and kombuchas are really good. They have amazing live music in a nice, smallish venue with really good sound. After searching for a dine-in restaurant for a while we stumbled across this awesome little spot.. If you're in the mood for beer and burgers then this is it! Seating is extremely limited and is outdoor only so beware, first come first serve! I came here with my husband, sisters and one of my sister's boyfriend and our waitress was very kind and helpful. My little sister had the fish and chips and she absolutely loved it!!! Everyone else got a burger and they all highly praised them leaving no leftovers!!!! Lots of beer selections too! Now, for the not so good stuff.. They were very under staffed and although our waitress was wonderful it took so long to get our food. Also, I have a laundry list of food allergies and I'm vegan and the only thing I could eat was a side salad :( I was very disappointed... Our waitress did her absolute best trying to find options for me but it just didn't work out and by the time I got my side salad my family had already finished alllll their food and drinks and were ready to leave so I took my salad to go and ate in the car... We visited Arcata for a graduation and wanted to watch the Niners game. We were greeted and sat down at a six top. The waitress came up a few minutes later and she was very busy but she was so nice. We had great service even with the busy night and shot staff. We had garlic cheese fries and they were very good. I had the cider on tap and my husband had a beer.the menu has lots of options. Hate to leave a negative review. It's a block off the square and they do have a good beer selection. It's dark and divey inside, took a minute to get noticed standing at the bar even tho no one else was around. Fries were cold, smothered burger was overdone. Sat outside with fake ivy on a rickety fence. Service was friendly but the whole experience was kinda sad. Meet a great gal at a cocktail lounge across the street and the Salt Fish was hopping for the upscale vibe. I'd just wanted a good meal as I came thru town. Took a walk around the marsh afterwards which was beautiful. My mom and I just kinda stumbled across this place after finding out Lost Coast is no longer open for lunch service. The atmosphere was pretty chill, with some outdoor seating and limited indoor seating due to COVID. It had your standard sports bar feel with TVs peppered throughout the place, each tuned in to a different game. Our server was very friendly. The problem here was the food - more specifically, the quality control. They left the bacon off of our garlic cheesy fries, which was requested specifically, and they left the avocado off of my burger (which wasn't even an upgrade; it was a standard ingredient for the burger I ordered). The bacon on my burger was overcooked to the point it was hard to chew, and the burger patty itself was a dried up hockey puck even though I ordered it medium. My mom's toast for her portobello mushroom melt was literally burnt black and tasted like charcoal. It's really a shame because the flavors were great and the food had real potential to be amazing, had the cooks taken some pride in their work and paid more attention to the quality of the food they were putting out. Hopefully this was not an accurate representation of their day to day output but I can't say I'll be going out of my way to eat here again. I hope future diners have a better experience. read more

Terrible service ruined it... We've been going to Humbrews for years and then didn't at all in 23' just due to busy schedules. Decided to take some friends from out of town there on their last day and our group of 6 (including myself) unfortunately had the rudest waitress. She rolled her eyes when our guests had questions, slammed things down, and was very impatient. We were all polite, thanked her each time she brought stuff over, and have waited tables before, so know it can get hectic, but honestly there was only one other small group in the restaurant. At one point when the wife asked for a fork (she hadn't had one to start with) the waitress yelled "I already gave you one!" and we got silent and were just like wtf? 20% tip was included unfortunately. She actually tried to tell us it wasn't to get more! I would say Humbrews would be ok for takeout but the food went down in quality too, very over-salted and the wings are more expensive, yet not as good as they used to be. read more

Great place to grab a drink, have an appetizer, and watch a game. They even have performances on the weekend and various days of the week.

I would give 1 star but I'm taking into consideration that other times I went and it wasn't terrible. Went for dinner on Labor Day. Got there right at 5pm. Waited probably 20 minutes for a table outside. Let me be clear, there were empty tables but no one to clean them. I saw people wait for a clean table and give up - probably 4 times that happened. The ladies who sat next to us WAITED OVER AN HOUR FOR HIM TO CLEAN OFF A TABLE. Worst waiter ever. He could not multi task AT ALL. I saw him do one table at a time: seat them, get drinks, take an orders, walk away, bring food... Then do the next one. He had at most 3 tables at once, while 3 more sat empty. Be careful, as they seem to close very early without warning. Drove in from out of town to try the place for the first time, but they locked the door and closed an hour and a half early. There was a group of four that walked up just before us trying to figure out why the door was locked. There were people inside at maybe half capacity. Checked the website and pathetic social media presence before we left too, and nothing. A sign on the door would be a good start letting people know, but using all the free tools to get the word out you're closing almost two hours early would be a good thing as a business to do. Can't say we'll be trying again anytime soon with this unreliability or notice to customers. I get it things come up, but you have to communicate with potential customers. read more
