I picked up my daughter's birthday cake this morning and i would say it was a okay cake, and i am disappointed. My daughter loves baby shark and i selected a nemo cake from their catalog, on which nemo was made in 3D with fondant. I asked them to make baby shark and also a turtle instead of nemo and octopus similar to the cake they had in their catalog. The baker cut the baby shark picture and stuck it on the fondant, and turtle was no where to be found. The whole point was for me to get this cake was to get the baby shark character that my daughter loves. Especially, she loves making characters out of play dough, i thought she would have enjoyed the actual baby shark. I paid $75 for 6 inch cake upfront, i was paying high price since they will be making all these characters. I wouldn't go their again. read more

I just cannot say enough good things about this bakery. Planning a baby shower in Richmond, from Dallas, and Nicole and team were so accommodating exchanging emails and phone calls in the design of the cake and cookies. Not only were the cake and cookies exactly matching the pictures I sent, by far the most flavorful cookies (very thick, no scrimping at all!) and tasty vanilla cake I have ever had! After driving from Sugar Land and contemplating a number of bakeries I visited Hummingbird because of the other good reviews. Unfortunately my experience was not at all pleasant. The lady who attended the counter was very rude and short. I explained to her that I was have a small birthday party with approx. 4-6 children and maybe 8 adults and hoping to get a small character cake, cupcakes and maybe some cookies. She was very short and in no way at all wanting to help me with prices and telling me what combination would be possible and made me feel like I was putting her out. Overall their baked goods may be tasty but you have to get past the horrible customer service first. read more

I love Hummingbird Bakery. I have ordered many custom cakes for birthdays, graduations and baby showers in the past 4 years. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because of the inconvenience of the ordering process. They used to accept FB messenger order but stopped a few years ago so you will need to go in to place a custom order. If they can start accepting an online order, they will have much more business with happy customers! read more

Wonderful and perfect! This was the first time I ordered from this bakery as I'm new to the area so I was searching for a good bakery. I had never tried any of their products but relied on reviews. I ordered my daughter's 1st birthday party cake over the phone. I sent pictures to the bakery of what I wanted it to look like (it was a twinkle twinkle little star theme). I ordered cake and cupcakes. They were really helpful and give me options to keep cost low which I appreciated. This is a very cute bakery and the people that own/work there are very nice. However, I have not had a successful cake experience. I have tried 3 of their cakes over the past 5 months and I have been disappointed every time. Each cake was dry. Each cake lacked in flavor. Each cake tasted stale. Each cake's frosting was far too light and airy, not sure how that's considered "buttercream". Each cake was eventually thrown in the trash can, because my family or friends complained on how poorly it was made. I gave this place 3 chances and they failed me 3 times. I'm giving them 2 stars for good service and creative cake decorating. read more

I LOVE cupcakes. I think I've tried just about every shop I've passed, and this one wins. Hands down. Perfect proportion of icing, perfect cake crumb and weight, excellent flavors. I've been in some that charge much more and might offer 6 flavors on one day, with four of them being a type of chocolate. Hummingbird regularly has 15 different flavors, more than half different fruit flavors (amazing), and all are fantastic. Their Hummingbird cupcake is just the end all greatest. Pop it in the micro for 10 seconds for a special surprise! You will moan. Even better, happy hour is 5-6 daily when cupcakes are rock bottom, like $1 or so! Hard to beat. We stopped by here a few days ago to sample their cupcakes. I live in Galleria area, but because of all the amazing reviews, I ordered a baby shower cake from here. It was a long drive for me, but I wanted to try the cakes. They were incredible! I had their Italian cream and it was terrific. If I lived closer, I would use this bakery all the time. I can't wait to see and taste the baby shower cake! I'll update a picture when we get it. UPDATE--Cake was as tasty as beautiful! Definitely worth the long drive for me! WOW... I read the reviews and had to try it. Did they change something? I was there Saturday morning.There were three clients. A few pretty standard looking cupcakes with standard swirl of standard looking frosting that left the edges of the cupcake naked. A few sugar cookie looking cookies with some sort of hard frosting on them, some brownies individually wrapped. A lady was there, client, she said she had ordered a cake and was picking it up. The lady said it wasn't ready yet, the client was a bit upset. The bakery is in a relatively affluent area, the client was in a ratty t-shirt, greasy hair, and jeans, not very good teeth. The lady behind the counter told her they were very busy, they had a wedding in the afternoon, and they would have her cake ready by 2, since she had not specified when she would be in to get it, they had it on their schedule for later that day. The client was upset- she had to get a ride from someone so she could pick up the cake, since she did not have her own transportation, she asked if she could wait for the cake. The lady told her it could not possibly be ready before 2, they were so busy, and their time was so important- really????? Client left, saying she would try to get a ride back. The lady actually apologized to the other waiting clients for the behavior of the client. Again, REALLY?????? The cakes I saw waiting to be picked up looked like that fondant stuff, with decorations also made of fondant stuck on here and there- none of the decorations were wonderful or very well done. I thought I would at least try a brownie, since I had waited so long. 3.50 for about a 3 x 3 square of stale dry brownie that someone had put chocolate chips in, and used the wrong kind, not enough fat content. The result was crunchy chocolate chips that turned to gritty dust when you bit it. I took two bites, and threw the rest out. I was not impressed, would certainly never shop here again. read more

Hummingbird did a great job on the race car cake I recently ordered for my husband. When I ordered it, she said she didn't think they could put the checkered flag pattern on the side because it was a single layer cake. I was thrilled when I picked it up and the checkered flag pattern was on the side of the cake! The race track, in field, cars, etc. on the top were perfect as well. I just this bakery! They make the BEST cupcakes & cookies , and they also taste amazing!! With different varieties to choose from it makes it soooo hard to walk out w/more than you initially thought you were going to buy! Hummingbird is also just as beautiful in the inside as their cakes, cupcakes, & cookies. Nicole & her staff are very polite & helpful. Poor customer service. Called several times with no answer. When they finally answered, the person on the other end said "they don't do designs" and hung up. Due to good ratings, since they wouldn't answer for me, my husband even tired and finally able to speak with the owner, she said was. But was very rude. Im just now able to write this, this all happened sometime in june 2017. read more
