I don't even know where to start.... I was planning a birthday party for my twin girls and couldn't find a cake to match the theme. Looked online and finally found something both girls could agree on and OMG... Sassy Cakes was able to duplicate it!!! This was my first time purchasing a cake from them, we also ordered cupcakes and cookies, which were scream face cookies to match the theme of scary movies. The cake and cookies were the talk of the school. EVERYONE loved the cake which was red velvet, rich and moist. Needless to say there were no leftovers. Wanted a Thomas the Train birthday cake and showed them a picture of the current up to date character rendition but they used the old Thomas the Train instead. When I commissioned them to do the work I showed them a picture of exactly what I wanted and asked if they needed a copy and they said no. The work is sloppy and it didn't have clean lines for a $65 8 inch cake. I probably won't be coming back for character cakes from them. The upside is the cake tasted good. read more

Although I did not visit this shop; a good variety of cupcakes were brought to a family game night I had last night. The flavors were lemon, banana caramel, red velvet, strawberry and a single bakers choice not sure of the flavor but it was a white cake with sprinkle topping. So my friend said she paid about $2 for each one... Which would be nothing less than expected for their small size, not to mention an order of twelve or a bakers dozen should have some kind of support packaging and not placed in a flimsy cake box. I went for the banana caramel and my first impression was oh my goodness why is the frosting so stiff... Well needless to say it like the old school icing which totally sucks it was extremely sweet, the cake itself was not crumbly but definitely dry and faint in flavor; the next flavor I tried was the strawberry and sadly it was the same situation artificial flavor. Only a few people tried them but no one finished what they tried. The red velvet had a nice deep color in cake but the cream cheese frosting was anything but appetizing to look at; it was a yellowish almost opeque color not white and creamy at all. I've only been in Texas for six months so I'm definitely gonna find that spot! I would say for the convenience of not having to go into the city and budget concerns this business may be one to consider. read more

Kristen and group at Sassy Cakes were so easy to work with and made the entire experience easy. Co-hosting a co-ed baby shower in Richmond, and had to plan long distance. I was responsible for the cookies and cupcakes, and used Yelp to try to find a bakery in the area the shower would be, so I could pick up the day of the shower after driving into town. Well, they did not disappoint! I had sent a number of pictures for designs, along with the invitation so the theme could be consistent. It was perfect and just what I was wanting! For an affordable decent tasting but superb custom designed cake...definitely go to this place. The owner and staff will try to work with you. I only came here once last year for my son's birthday cake since I was on a time crunch, and I was very grateful that in a short time frame they were able to custom make me a cake. The owner, Kristen I think offered her cupcakes to me free to sample. Honestly the cupcakes weren't too tasty, the orange dreamsicle was probably the best at the time. But the cake, Yoda minion cake was cute and the Neapolitan flavor was a lot better than the cupcake! The best thing here: they're custom designs. They also did a custom cake for Texas Wildlife Rehab Coalition Auction night last year that my husband and I attended and it was beautiful and not too sweet. read more

Amazing cupcakes, ice cream and staff! My kids and I LOVE this place! Everytime we come we feel treated as family.

I called on Monday, but they were closed. I forgot all about ordering until Friday. Believe it or not they accommodated me. I ordered a plain vanilla cake with white icing and monster eyes all over for my son's Halloween themed birthday party. I received an orange and black trick or treat cake. I ordered cupcakes with the same decorations and got a variety of flavors with orange icing and white ghosts. The taste was very good so I could overlook the fact that the cake did not look as I described. The cupcakes were stale but the vanilla cake was outstanding with the buttercream icing. The price was fair to moderate. Didn't break the bank, but it was very simple for the price. I did not like the fact that the cake board extended beyond the cake. It took away from the presentation. The cupcakes needed to be placed in the proper box, they were smushed together in a plain cake box. Since they are close to my home I will definitely consider them for my occasions. read more

I stopped by to checkout this shop and I really hope it does well. Unfortunately I couldn't give it the higher stars because I had to compare the quality to other cupcake shops. I went and had 3 cupcakes: strawberry, orange dreamsicle, and caramel. The icing is similar to the sweetness and texture as that of a grocery store's bakery shop. The decorations were very simple, nothing fancy like gigi's cupcakes. I can say the cake was very moist but the flavor was mild. The cost was better than most places at $2 a cupcake when other shops charge $3.50 and higher. There also wasn't anything fancy in the inside of the cupcakes. read more

We went in to place a cake order and we had a short time frame that we needed the cake. We were accommodated. The staff did seem a little unorganized and disheveled but overall friendly. The price was quite high for a rather plain cake, tho. While placing our order, we did buy three cupcakes to try. The icing was very very sweet and I could not eat it. The butter cake was nothing special and didn't have much flavor. My children had chocolate and vanilla and they liked them, tho I didn't try them. Tasty and beautiful cakes at an affordable price. I've been to several parties & weddings catered by Sassy Cakes and most recently had my very own wedding cake made by them too! The owner is friendly, easy to work with and has reasonable hours which is always a plus for me. She can pretty much make any flavor, filling, combination and style that you want. I went with Toasted Almond and Red Velvet (my favorite) for my 3-tiered cake and it was a huge hit at the wedding. Unfortunately they were booked that day and were not able to deliver my cake to the venue, but with the extra help of family, it all worked out and we could not have been more pleased. read more

I ordered cake last week for my granddaughter's third birthday. Our party theme was a Christmas cookie decorating party for the kids and we wanted something that was both birthday and Christmas. I showed some photos of Dr. Seuss' Whoville cakes for the theme that I thought we be cute. She called me yesterday to let me know the cake was ready (ahead of schedule) and when I saw it I was floored! This surpassed my expectation and was much nicer than the pictures I had shown her. I was originally only going to buy a one tier chocolate cake with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle design but after tasting the cup cakes I added a second tier for the butter cake. it's a must have!!!!!! We received terrible graduation cupcakes for $50. I had my dad pick them up (because everyone was working) and he didn't know any better to look at them before leaving. The were all different sizes. The decor was all crooked and looked like my 8 year old niece did them. They tasted like they were out of the box and didn't have the cream cheese filling we paid for. I am writing this review for my husband because he does not have a yelp account. He called sassy cakes today to ask if he can get some cupcakes delivered to my house for my birthday as a surprise. He stated that when he called sassy cakes, the person on the phone was very short and snippy with him. Unwilling to answer questions and help in any kind of way. My fiancé and I visited the shop about a week before 4th of July. We where interested in getting a wedding cake and came in. We met the owner and she was very nice. She let us sample the vanilla cup cakes and chocolate cup cakes. I must say the sponge is very moist. We where looking for something different, she mentioned she also makes an almond cake. We really wanted to try it. She told us she would be closed the following week but took down our name and number to give us a call when she made some the week of her being back. We didn't get a call back at all. I called her two weeks after her being back and reminded her. She apologized and reassured me she will make some and call us to sample it. It is now July 29th and she never called. I myself am a business owner and I know that it is of the upmost importance that if you say you're going to do something you have to do it. Any time you move from out of town to a new location and you need to bring something to a party you need something trustworthy. I called last minute over to Sassy Cakes in search actually of a pie, however after a few minutes on the phone I knew I had to come in person and check this place out. Kristen Albrecht is an absolute darling and her cupcakes are amazing!! Take light, fluffy cake that dances on your tongue and cover it with homemade buttercream frosting. Unreal. I had order a graduation cake in December from Sassy Cakes and it was absolutely amazing! It was to feed about 80 people or so but sadly not everyone showed up to the party due to the weather and other engagements but regardless, the cake was about almost gone! The only part left was where it said "Congratulations". I have always loved their cupcakes as well. I haven't gotten to try any of their other baked sweets but once I'm able to I definitely will!
