The place winds along like the yellow brick road , offering various dining options. We ate outside which was a lovely setting and accommodating to the children. Lots of mosquitoes though. Wear big stay. Service was very helpful and friendly;. Appetizers were not very good. Unimaginative. Dinner was tasty though. Not particularly special but good. read more

I have been proven yet again not to pay attention to the stars. I would have missed out! Hopefully my 5 stars helps to boost the three stars up. My husband had a bite and said they were the best he's tasted. Perfect amount of cheese, well smoked and flavored pork, Caramelized onions that was finished off with some cabbage and a (somewhat) spicy chili garlic bbq sauce. Served on a warm flour tortilla. Came with beans but I didn't have room. Hubs got the fried chicken club ranch sandwich with grilled chicken and kept saying "When we get back to Alaska, we have GOT to recreate this!!" My son got the kids pizza, which tasted like a frozen pizza from the freezer aisle, but my son is two and he was happy. That was the ONLY and most MINOR negative I had about our experience. My in laws were very happy with their meals as well but I didn't pay attention to what they got other than it was catfish and ribs. Our server was Jaycee and was polite and sweet. Why did I give this place a second chance? Got into town and wanted a non-fast food meal so I went to Humphrey Petes, bad choice. I ordered the special. Who would have thought you could go wrong with meatloaf and mash potatoes? My order came and the meatloaf was smothered in red sauce, I'm still optimistic at this point. I take a bite, yikes, spicy. So I scrape the red sauce off, crap! Still spicy. I eat the mash potatoes and wait for the server to check.on me. When the sever pops by I tell her it's too spicy for.my taste. She says, "huh" and walks away. Ok. So I sit there debating if I should just order something else, even though at this point she hasn't offer that option but I thought maybe a burger. So after flipping through the chart thing on the table I just want to go. She comes back, takes my credit card, runs my credit card and is handing it back to me. She sees my full plate. Smoking or non smoking the waitress said. Didn't matter even in the nonsmoking a light cloud of smoke hung in the air. The food was just ok nothing to brag about. The floors were a huge mess. It looks as if a toddler ate at every table but no one bothered to pick it up. From rolls to corn to assorted food spilled from plates everywhere. I had the scape off my shoes after leaving. I really wanted to like this place. The atmosphere was fun and the food was pretty good, though pricey. However, it was HOT in the restaurant, must've been over 80 degrees inside. Our server told us it's always that way. Also, there was a thick layer of dust covering everything from vents and bathroom stalls to the buffalo and the rafters. I love a homey feel, but it was nasty. And finally, our server was good, but oh so slow. We asked for the check and waited another 15 minutes while she took orders from two other tables. This is a fun place, but the heat and the grime makes it a hard pass next time. read more

After eating there, I was surprised it only has three stars. We went because my son insisted it was good. He was correct. The Texas onion app was crispy and tasty. All of the food we ordered was really good. Smothered chicken. Queso burger. Cheese burger, and the Cobb salad were all fresh and tasty. I would have given five stars if they did not mess up the cheeseburger order, my daughter orders hers plain and dry and about half the time places mess it ups BUT, they remade it and it was great. We've had some pretty good food and experiences there, but the last time we went the quality of the food had severely dropped. We always have had their steak and sides, but that last time... the majority of both our steaks where fat and gristle. I mean more than half of our steaks were nasty. Not sure if it was a one time thing or not, but why in the world would they ever serve that to a customer? They turned us off, and we've never been back. This place has lost some of its luster over time. Chicken fried steak is the go-to here, but their Waygu burgers are a great choice as well. Their fries and salads are a hit too. Portion sizes for sides like mashed potatoes and baked potatoes seems to have gotten smaller over time. Tonight I barely had what I would consider one "scoop" of mashed potatoes. Service isn't always great, but it's usually adequate. I will say this - their sweet tea needs a totally new recipe - it is not good. The hostess do not know what they are doing. They had no clue where to sit people. We order shrimp and it said jumbo butterfly it was neither. Tater sauce is disgusting. The food is very not that good. Not a clean place. The bus person would clean a table and stack the dishes in another table. Would do this several times until the table was overloaded with dirty dishes. Bathrooms were beyond disgusting. Only 2 stalls for such a big restaurant. Need to consider putting in other bathroom. The building and interior decor is very eclectic and interesting. There are a lot of cool things to look at in the restaurant. Many of tables we've sat at were badly out of level and make eating more of a challenge than anything else because the plates were sliding off. Each time we've visited Pete's the service is pretty slow and overall poor, it does seem the servers are just trying to cover more than they can handle well. Our food usually comes out in a mix of barely warm to piping hot which again makes me think much of the issue they have has more to do with shortage of staff than the ability to produce good food. I've tried quite a few items on the menu, most were okay but I haven't had anything yet that really impressed me as exceptional. read more

I thought this was a fantastic place to bring my family. It had a great menu and a vibrant atmosphere. My kids liked that they could draw. The rolls are a must!!! They have a special butter a cinnamon butter for there rolls one of the best things we ever tasted! Could not get enough. We all had sandwiches they did not take long and wete so delicious. Third time going here, last Friday night. Ordered Cobb Salad and found barely any avacado, three thin slices and rotten core of salad in bowl. The core had a black center. Wife ordered ceasar salad that was over drenched with salad dressing, not edible. Told waitress about problems, she smiled and said "Sorry", what a shame she did not care enough to do more than apologize. Got the steak and seafood and both meats were cooked as expected, also had a lil smokey flavor which I enjoyed. Both seasoned well. Now for the downside...I called in my order, only to be told when I arrived, they no longer carried the special I requested (to know this up front would have been great or a callback). The corn was pretty bland which surprised me considering how well salted the non-sides were (glad I have the salt n pepper pack). Lastly, the steak had a considerable amount of fat on it.
